Today basically two grid concepts rule the world: service grids and desktop grids. Service grids offer an infrastructure for grid users, thus require notable management to keep the service running. On the other hand, desktop grids aim to utilize free CPU cycles of cheap desktop PCs, are easy to set up, but the availability towards users is limited compared to the service grid. The aim of the EDGeS project is to create an integrated infrastructure that gathers the advantages of the two grid concepts. A building block of this infrastructure is bridging between the different grid types. In the paper we focus on bridging from desktop grids towards service grids, i.e. making desktop grids able to utilize free service grid resources.

Peer-to-Peer (P2P) and distributed systems are typically designed around the assumption that all peers/nodes will willingly contribute resources to each other. They thus suffer from freeloaders, that are, participants who consume many more resources than they contribute. For example, a peer/node may be willing to be a resource consumer and not a provider. Moreover a resource provider may not be providing efficient and reliable services to other peers/nodes and is just sharing resources for the sake of resource sharing. In this paper, we propose a framework for fair and reliable resource sharing in distributed/P2P systems. For fairness we use the concept of accounting systems; where the entities of the systems are bank accounts, salaries and resource rates. Every system can use the resources of other systems on payments from its salary and can select the resource in competitive environment. Reliability is implemented by using the trust model; where reliability levels are modeled for realization of reliability in the system. Experimental simulation used for evaluating and validating the performance of the proposed framework. Results show that the framework is very trustable for the resource sharing with fairness and reliability in distributed/P2P systems.

A computational grid environment, due to its heterogeneous, autonomous and dynamic nature is prone to different kinds of faults which may lead to delay in completion of job or even execution of job from starting point. Checkpointing mechanism plays a vital role for making grid more reliable, cost effective and efficient. In this paper, we have proposed schemes based on system checkpointing and application checkpointing. Their performance comparison is done based on the empirical study. The ABSC scheme is suitable for the applications where computations are not intense. But for computationally intense applications where reliability is more important ABAC scheme is more suitable. But this scheme may produce slight overheads in fault free situations and very reliable in faulty situations.

The M. Tech. programme in Computer Science and Engineering (code: MCS) is a Masters programme offered to students who are interested in advanced learning and research in any area of computer science. Applicants to this programme are expected to already have an excellent background in computer science. (It is not a skills conversion programme). The programme is a 60-credit degree programme, which is usually spread over 4 semesters for a full-time student. About two-thirds of the credits involve coursework, and the remainder consists of project work. The emphasis is on conducting original research and writing a thesis (individually) that reports these results. The programme is flexible enough to allow a student to specialize in any topic of interest by taking elective courses and working on a research project in that area. Placements have been excellent (100%), and our graduates have been employed at the top research laboratories and companies in the country and even abroad.
Students are provided top quality laboratory and infrastructure facilities. We endeavour to provide financial support at Master's level stipends to all GATE-qualified full-time students. Full-time students not resident in Delhi are given priority in allotment of hostel accommodation.
In addition to the general M.Tech degree, we also offer MTech degrees with specialization in any one of the following areas:
The requirement for the specialization degree is that the student must complete at least 30 credits in the area of specialization at the 700-level or higher, subject to the following constraints:
It is also possible to switch your programme of study mid-way. Interested students who have demonstrated excellence in their academic performance and research potential have the opportunity to convert to the Ph. D. programme or to the MS (Research) programme.
Students at IIT Delhi pursuing a B. Tech. programme in any discipline have the option of obtaining an M. Tech. in Computer Science (Programme code: MCS) by investing an additional 2-3 semesters after the end of their B. Tech. programme.
For more details, click here .
Eligibility: The candidate must have a 4-year B.Tech./B.E. degree or a MSc./MCA degree in computer-science or information technology, and have an excellent academic record. The candidate should have demonstrated adequate bacground in computer science itself (GATE in CS/IT), or else with extensive experience in computing (for part-time students).
There are two different ways in which you can register for the M. Tech. programme in CSE at IITD: Full-Time : The candidate resides on the IIT campus for the entire duration of the programme. The student should have an excellent valid GATE score in CS/IT. Part-Time : The candidate should be working in an industry or organisation involved in computer science research/teaching and located within 50 kms of NCR. The organization should certify that it has No Objection to the candidate pursuing this degree.
Download the application form from the IIT Delhi web-site or collect a paper application form from IIT Delhi, PGS&R Section. Fill the form and attach a draft for Rs 300 made payable to the "Registrar, IIT Delhi" at New Delhi. The forms are typically available around the beginning of March.
You may wish to also attach a curriculum vitae listing your academic record, Industrial/Research Experience, Research Publications (also include a copy of your best publication), academic honors and awards etc.
Send the application to the "Deputy Registrar, Post Graduate Section. IIT, Hauz Khas, New Delhi 110016". Interviews for admission are conducted once a year in May, and admissions are synchronized with the semester beginning late July.
After looking at your application we will decide whether to invite you for an interview. You will be informed of the decision by email. The interview will test your familiarity with basic concepts in Computer Science and your ability to analyze and formulate a solution to a problem. Part-time students may be given a written-test prior to the interview.

The part-time programmes constitute an opportunity given to working professionals in the NCR area to pursue an advanced degree at IIT Delhi.
Yes, if you have the academic qualifications in terms of degree and academic performance as specified by the department (not just the minimal requirements specified by the institute). In addition, you need:
No, GATE is required only for full-time students getting assistantship from the Institute.
Based on your application, you will be called for a test and interview. The written test is technical and objective, and will test your familiarity with basic computer science subjects --- programming, data structures, discrete mathematics and logic, programming languages and compilation, theory, algorithms design and analysis, operating systems and other systems software, networks, architecture, etc.
Normally 4 semesters for a full-time student and 6 semesters for a part-time student
Yes, of course, classes are conducted. These are conducted at the usual times on weekdays. You need to attend these classes, and be present. Part-time programmes are not remote programmes. The only other "concession" for the part-time student is that we will hold classes for core courses in the morning slots [C: 8-9 and D: 9-10 on Tue, Wed and Fri; and A: 8-9:30 and B: 9:30-11:00 on Mon, Thu]. Students should select elective courses on the basis of convenience and interest.
Yes. Approx a third of the M Tech credits are project credits; Two-thirds of the MS (Res) credits are project credits.
You can do your project at your work place or at home, but should archive and be able to demonstrate and document your work on the Department's machines.
Yes, if you are in the 50km range. Please note that if you change jobs during the programme, you should get a fresh NOIC from your new employer. Please note you need tobe employed to avail yourself of the part-time programme.
No, you are not eligible for hostel accommodation
No, you are not eligible for an assistantship from Institute sources.
MTechs from CS&E are typically placed with technology majors, startups and even with finance companies. See here for details of the 2015-16 placement season
Foreign students may apply for this programme at any time of year, and do not need to apply on the application form. Foreign students may apply either through their embassies, or through a scholarship/fellowship scheme such as the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) or Asian Development Bank (ADB), or as self-financing student.
Please enclose your academic marks transcripts (with official translations, if necessary). Please attach a curriculum vitae listing your academic record, Industrial/Research Experience, Research Publications (also include a copy of your best publication), academic honors and awards etc.
Send the application to the "Deputy Registrar, Post Graduate Section. IIT, Hauz Khas, New Delhi 110016". Please apply well before the end of March.
After looking at your application we will decide whether to offer you admission. You will be informed of the decision by email.
