18 Pages Movie Review: Nikhil Siddhartha-Anupama Parameswaran's Romantic Drama Is Refreshing!

Introduction:

Nikhil Siddhartha, who was last seen in the adventure thriller Karthikeya 2, is now back with a romantic comedy titled 18 Pages. Incidentally, he is paired opposite Anupama Parameswaran in this film as well. Directed by one of the wards of director Sukumar Bandreddi, 18 Pages has story from Sukumar Writings, Sukuamr's production house. Nikhil rose to nationwide fame with Karthikeya 2 and the movie is a Rs 100 Crore venture. Immediately after, the film 18 Pages hit the screens after several postponements.

Siddu (Nikhil Siddhartha) is an app developer in a start-up. He is friends with Bhagi (Sarayu) who is very doting. Following a break-up, Siddhu drinks his way out as he loses focus. He stumbles upon a diary of Nandini (Anupama Parameswaran). He gets entangled and smitten by her way of life and struggles to cope when he finds out that she died in a pre-planned car accident. What happened to Nandini? How did Siddhu find out about her flashback? Who is Dr. Sandeep B and why Nandini loved him? is to be seen on the big screen.

Technical Aspects:

Nikhil Siddhartha as usual is easy and comfortable in the character. He did his best for it and Anupama too looks very convincing as the character that resists technology. Simply put, she is an old-school soul who doesn't use a mobile phone, has no social networking presence, and is a woman with a kind heart. Nandini comes to Hyderabad to deliver an unopened letter to a person named Venkatrao as per her grandfather's dying wish. She then becomes the target. The movie mainly focuses on these three or four characters and the others are just passing clouds. Sarayu made her film debut with 18 Pages and puts up a neat act.

18 Pages Movie Review: Heartfelt as a drama, engrossing as a thriller

The opening scene of any film is sacrosanct. There’s a particular joy in discerning that the filmmaker is trying to punctuate the film’s themes seconds after the first frame comes up. It happens in 18 Pages when we first see Siddhu (a confident Nikhil Siddhartha), in his dim bedroom, with the screen of his phone lighting up his face. The rock score in the background might announce the introduction of a ‘hero’ but here’s a man whose entire life seems to be only lit up by his phone, like many of us. We then see his activities—from using the toilet to walking on the road, albeit recklessly—  with his phone as a constant companion. He is constantly in touch with his girlfriend virtually. The opening few minutes, even if they spell it out with no subtlety, neatly set up his character and paint a clear picture of the contrast we will eventually see once the conflict is introduced. Expectedly, when his lover breaks his heart, Siddhu is pushed into darkness and this time, he needs some real light—not the one from his phone—to bring him out of the sorrow. And it happens when he stumbles upon a dusted, two-year-old journal that introduces him to Nandhini (a fabulous Anupama Parameswaran). Her words from the past begin to influence his present and what follows is a tale that is about love and many larger and deeper themes.

Directed by: Surya Pratap Palnati Cast: Nikhil Siddhartha, Anupama Parameswaran On an idea level, 18 Pages might seem a little conventional. In fact, going the old-school way is one of the primary themes of the film. At points, it does remind you of those ‘90s films in which the leads fall in love by posting letters to each other, or films where the couple are unaware of their identities till the very end. Do you get an idea? Although its ideas might be old-school, 18 Pages is a timely film that posits a timely, modern conundrum in our lives: lack of human interaction. And the film spins its whole script around this concept, without ever getting preachy. Sukumar's script uses many elements, from Siddhu’s profession—which involves virtual interaction—to a minor but terrific character, that of a young boy who sells pens at a traffic signal, to make its point and this paves way for some beautiful moments teeming with love and kindness. Nandhini, the polar opposite of Siddhu, believes in living life rather than simply navigating through it. She doesn't use a phone. Her introduction is pleasantly done and although it’s done verbally (it is a verbose film and voice-overs play a major role, considering journaling is a central theme), it encapsulates everything about her, the way she perceives life, and how she processes every tiny thing. It is, in a way, Nandhini’s movie—the frame freezes when she smiles at the camera and then the title appears. In fact, the film is sprinkled with such lovely, heartfelt moments stemming out of the script’s attempts to underline the importance of forging a human bond. The character of a bus conductor (played by Middle-Class Melodies -fame Goparaju Ramana) is one of the best things in the film, both as a plot device and as a means to present the humane attribute in the script. His brief interaction with Nandhini and how this dynamic is later used to further the plot is one of the best facets of Sukumar’s script. On the strength of Sukumar's script, Surya Pratap Palnati does try to incorporate many elements—in the form of characters and sub-plots—but never chews more than what he can bite and gives closure to all the arcs. While the script does answer most of your questions, especially after it ventures into the thriller territory, it does leave some questions but thankfully, they are not glaring. The script also bridges the tonal unevenness smoothly and one really doesn’t really feel distracted when the film jumps from being a feel-good romance (although it is not a romance) at one point to a serious thriller, and then back to a light-hearted zone. The film’s biggest strength is perhaps its ability to sell both the lightness and darkness with ease. As a drama, it is heartfelt and encourages you to ponder on your relationships; Siddhu’s non-relationship with Nandhini also leads to a couple of hilarious gags. And when it’s a thriller, you are really invested in it and crave to know more about it. And one has to mention Navin Nooli's editing. At first, they effectively juxtapose the lives of these two distinct humans and then slowly begin to draw parallels between them. 18 Pages is one of those films in which editing and storytelling are inseparable and complement each other. It’s fitting that a character identifies Nandhini with a crossword puzzle. She really is a puzzle, one that Siddhu and 18 Pages try to solve. And 18 Pages is really as engaging and satisfying as solving a puzzle.

18 Pages MovieReview:’కార్తికేయ -2′ తో దేశ వ్యాప్తంగా గుర్తింపు తెచ్చుకున్న హీరో నిఖిల్ లేటెస్ట్ మూవీ ’18 పేజీస్’. అయితే ఆ సక్సెస్ ను పరిగణనలోకి తీసుకోకుండా తమ కథ డిమాండ్ మేరకే ’18 పేజీస్’ తెరకెక్కించానంటున్నారు దర్శకుడు సూర్యప్రతాప్. స్టార్ డైరెక్టర్ సుకుమార్ కథ, స్క్రీన్ ప్లే అందించిన ’18 పేజీస్’ను జీఏ2 బ్యానర్ లో బన్నీ వాసు నిర్మించారు. మరి ఈ లవ్ స్టోరీ టార్గెట్ ఆడియెన్స్ ను థ్రిల్ కు గురిచేసిందో లేదో చూద్దాం.

తండ్రి పద్ధతులు నచ్చక ఇంటి నుండి బయటకు వచ్చేస్తాడు సాఫ్ట్ వేర్ ఇంజనీర్ సిద్ధార్థ్‌ (నిఖిల్). ఓ అమ్మాయిని పిచ్చపిచ్చగా ప్రేమించిన తర్వాత తనను మోసం చేసిందనే విషయం తెలిసి బాధపడతాడు. పూర్తిగా డిప్రషన్ కు వెళ్ళిపోయిన టైమ్ లో అతనికో డైరీ దొరుకుతుంది. నందిని (అనుపమా పరమేశ్వరన్) అనే అమ్మాయి రాసిన ఆ డైరీలోని ఒక్కోపేజీ చదువుకుంటూ వెళుతూ, ఆమెతో ప్రేమలో పడిపోతాడు. అంతేకాదు… ఆమె ప్రతి అలవాటునూ తనదిగా చేసుకుంటాడు. రెండేళ్ళ క్రితం ఆ డైరీలో జరిగిన ఇన్సిడెంట్స్ ను ప్రస్తుత కాలానికి అన్వయించుకుంటూ తడబడుతుంటాడు. 18 పేజీల తర్వాత ఆగిపోయిన ఆ డైరీని చూసి అవాక్కవుతాడు. నందినిని వెతుక్కుంటూ ఆమె గ్రామానికి వెళితే, కారు యాక్సిడెంట్ లో చనిపోయిందని తెలుస్తుంది. అయితే… సిద్ధార్థ్‌ కు ఎక్కడో ఆమె బతికే ఉందనే నమ్మకం! అలా కాకపోయినా… ఆమె చేసిన మంచి పనులను కొనసాగించాలనే ఆలోచనతో ముందుకు సాగుతాడు. ఆ క్రమంలో నందిని గురించి ఇతర వివరాలు అతనికి తెలుస్తాయ. సిద్ధార్థ్‌ బలంగా నమ్మినట్టు నందిని బ్రతికే ఉందా? ఆమెను అతను కలుసుకోగలిగాడు? ఎక్కడో విజయనగరం నుండి నందిని ఓ కవర్ పట్టుకుని హైదరాబాద్ కు ఎందుకొచ్చింది? ఆమె అడ్డు తొలగించాలనుకున్న వ్యక్తులు ఎవరు? అందువల్ల వాళ్ళకు ఒరిగేది ఏమిటి? వారికి సిద్ధార్థ్‌ ఎలా బుద్ధి చెప్పాడు? అనేది మిగతా కథ.

‘రీజన్ చూసి లవ్ చేస్తే, అది ప్రేమెందుకు అవుతుంది?’ అనేది ఆణిముత్యం లాంటి మాట. అదే ఈ సినిమాలోని కోర్ పాయింట్. దీన్ని దర్శకుడు కన్వెన్సింగ్ గా చెప్పే ప్రయత్నంలో చాలానే తిప్పలు పడ్డాడు. స్మార్ట్ ఫోనే జీవితంగా బతుకుతున్న ఈ కాలంలో అస్సలు ఫోనే వాడని ఓ అమ్మాయిని హీరోయిన్ గా పెట్టేశాడు. ఇవాళ ప్రతి పని ఫోన్ మీద సాగుతుండగా, దాన్ని అంటరాని వస్తువుగా చూపడం అంత బాలేదు. అయితే.. నిత్యం చేతిలోనే ఉండే ఫోన్ కారణంగా మనం ఎలాంటి అనుబంధాలకు, ఆత్మీయతలకు దూరం అవుతున్నామనేది దర్శకుడు హృదయానికి హత్తుకునేలా చెప్పాడు. బట్ ఈ క్రమంలో హీరో తండ్రి, తాత ఎపిసోడ్ అంత ఎమోషన్ ను క్యారీ చేయలేదు. అది మరీ ఆర్టిఫిషియల్ గా ఉంది. అలానే నందిని చేయాలనుకున్న పనులను పూర్తి చేయడం ద్వారా ఆమె సజీవంగా ఉన్నట్టే అని హీరో భావించడం సమంజసంగా అనిపించినా, ఆ తర్వాత నందినికి ఎదురుపడిన ప్రతి వారు సిద్ధూ కారణంగానే ఇలా జరిగిందని చెప్పడం కూడా సినిమాటిక్ గా ఉంది. నందిని సనాతన ధర్మ ట్రస్ట్ కు కవర్ అందించడానికి రావడం, దాని వెనుక ఉన్న భూ ఆక్రమణ… ఇలాంటి పాయింట్ తో ఇప్పటికే చాలా సినిమాలు వచ్చాయి. ఇందులో కాస్తంత కొత్తదనం ఏదైనా ఉందంటే… అది డైరీలోని పేజీలను చదువుకుంటూ… హీరో వాటికి కనెక్ట్ కావడం, మిస్ అయిన హీరోయిన్ ను వెతుక్కుంటూ వెళ్ళడమే! ఈ భాగాన్ని దర్శకుడు సూర్య ప్రతాప్ బాగానే డీల్ చేశాడు.

సిద్ధార్థ్‌ గా నిఖిల్ హండ్రెడ్ పర్సంట్ పెర్ఫార్మెన్స్ ఇచ్చాడు. ఓ రకంగా అతనికి ఈ క్యారెక్టర్ పోషణ కేక్ వాక్ లాంటిది. ఇక నందిని పాత్రలో అనుపమా పరమేశ్వరన్ అద్భుతంగా ఒదిగిపోయింది. ఇది ఆమెకు సంబంధించిన కథ, ఆమె నడిపే కథ. అలానే బిగ్ బాస్ ఫేమ్ బోల్డ్ ఉమన్ సరయు తన ఇమేజ్ కు తగ్గ పాత్రను పోషించి, మంచి మార్కులు కొట్టేసింది. దినేశ్ తేజ్ పోషించిన డాక్టర్ క్యారెక్టర్ ను డిపికల్ గా ప్రెజెంట్ చేసి, ఆడియెన్స్ లో క్యూరియాసిటీని కలిగించారు. ఇతర పాత్రల్లో మనకు అజయ్, శత్రు, గోపరాజు రమణ, పోసాని, రవివర్మ, సత్యసాయి శ్రీనివాస్ తదితరులు కనిపిస్తారు.

సాంకేతిక నిపుణులలో ప్రధానంగా చెప్పుకోవాల్సింది ఎ. వసంత్ సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ గురించి. ప్రతి ఫ్రేమ్ ను అందంగా తెరపై చూపించారు. గోపీ సుందర్ నేపథ్య గీతాలకు సమకూర్చిన బాణీలు బాగున్నాయి. ముఖ్యంగా ‘నన్నయ్య రాసిన’ గీతం ఆకట్టుకుంటుంది. అయితే శింబుతో పాడించిన బ్రేకప్ సాంగ్ ఆడియెన్స్ కనెక్ట్ అయ్యేలా లేదు. సినిమా ప్రారంభంలోనే అది రావడం, విషాదగీతంలో వెక్కిరింతలకు స్కోప్ ఇవ్వడంతో సెట్ కాలేదు. ప్రథమార్థంలో స్క్రీన్ ప్లే ఆకట్టుకుంది. ద్వితీయార్థంకు వచ్చేసరికీ అది డ్రాప్ అయ్యింది. అయితే… ద్వితీయార్థంలోని కొన్ని సన్నివేశాలు ప్రేక్షకులు క్లాప్ కొట్టేలా ఉన్నాయి. హీరోయిన్లను తెరపై అంగడిబొమ్మగా చూపెడుతున్న ఈ రోజుల్లో ఓ ఆదర్శ యువతిగా నందిని పాత్రను కథకుడు సుకుమార్, దర్శకుడు సూర్య ప్రతాప్ మలిచిన తీరుకు అభినందించాలి. ఆ పాత్రకు అనుపమా పరమేశ్వరన్ ను ఎంపిక చేయడం బాగుంది. సరయు నోటి వెంట వచ్చిన పంచ్ డైలాగ్స్ కూడా యూత్ ను ఆకట్టుకున్నాయి. అయితే మల్టీప్లెక్స్ ఆడియెన్స్ ను దృష్టిలో పెట్టుకుని ఈ సినిమా తీశారనిపిస్తోంది. మాస్ ఆడియెన్స్ కూ ఇది చేరువైతే మంచిదే!

18 Pages Movie : What's Behind

18 Pages is a love story casted with Karthikeya 2 Hit pair Nikhil Siddhartha - Anupama Parameswaran with an out & out lovestory. Director Sukumar has penned the story while Kumari 21 F fame Palnati Surya Pratap has directed it. Bunny Vas produced it under GA2 Pictures along with Sukumar Writings under the presentation of Allu Aravind. The film has succeded in generating curiosity among the audience with its publicity material and a couple of songs composed by Gopi Sundar are already became hit with the listeners. The film is released today in Theatres. Let's see what the film has in store for us.

18 Pages Movie : Story Review

18 Pages is about a boy loving a girl through her diary without even seeing her and how it transformed him. Siddharth Aka Siddhu (Nikhil Siddhartha) is an IT employee who just comes out of his breakup. He finds an old diary written by Nandini (Anupama Parameswaran). As he keeps reading the diary, Siddhu falls for Nandini for her magnificent persona. After 18 Pages in Nandini's diary, Siddhu didn't find anything in it and wants to find about Nandini. Who is Nandini ? What happened to her ? Did she know about Siddhu ? Answers for these questions forms the rest of the story.

18 Pages Movie : Artists Review

Nikhil is in his zone playing a longing lover who falls head over the heels for a girl who he even didn't see. Nikhil enacted the role neatly expressing the pain and emotion where it is needed. He is good in entertaining scenes with his timing. He looks good with trendy styling. On the flipside at times his desperation looks not natural but it is largely due to lackluster writing. 

Anupama Parameswaran steals the show both with her looks and act. Her natural performance makes us connect to her instantly right from the first scene. Her character is well written and well enacted. Anupama's simple looks and her struggle make everyone root for her role. Sarayu as Nikhil's friend gets a lengthy role and she is decent with her performance. 

18 Pages Movie : Technicians Review

Director Sukumar penned the story where Hero loves a girl though reading her diary without even seeing her is old theme but he tries to relate it to present scenario infusing a couple of other elements too. The first half starts on a hurried note. It didn't take time to establish the hero's character. It's almost like hero got introduced with a breakup and immediately falls for a girl by reading her diary. This doesn't help to root for that character. As the story progresses with Siddhu starts reading the diary, Nandini's character is introduced and her story goes paralelly. While Siddhu gets to know more about Nandini he finds a change in himself and emerges as a new person. But, we didn't undergo the feelings and pain of Siddhu towards Nandini. This is where the film falters. With an interesting turn the Interval leaves the audience to discuss about the second half among themselves. 

The second half revealed all the knots tied in the first half and the it spreads the whole story. The film which was a love story till then shifts to an investigative tone. But, the film sustains interest about to know whereabouts of the lead character. And finally as everything starts unfolding it feels like a different film altogether and dilutes the main love story. Besides love theme it also deals with having human interaction more than spending lives before mobile screen and keeping the loved ones alive by continuing things they love and desire. 

Director Surya Pratap did a decent job but not an impressive one. He should have given better treatment with good scenes to make the core point make more relatable. Gopi Sundar's music stands as major highlight of the film. Almost all songs are good and also neatly picturised. Cinematography by Vasanth is decent and captured good visuals in songs. Editing by Naveen Nooli is adequate in first half and could have been better in second half. Production values are good but dubbing issues arise at a couple of instances.

18 Pages Movie : Rating Analysis

Altogether, 18 Pages has a novel plot at its core, But the treatment and narration makes it flat for most of the times. It fails to generate the impact where it needed. It is a different attempt for sure but it lacks strong scenes and character development to engage audiences along with the lead characters. After a decent first half the graph in the second half falls and it deviates from the theme during the final parts. On a whole, only a few pages seem endearing in this expected to be a hearttouching tale of love. 18 Pages Movie OTT was bagged by NETFLIX and Aha and OTT release date to be announced soon. Considering all these elements, CineJosh goes with a 2.25 Rating for 18 Pages .

సిద్ధు (నిఖిల్ సిద్ధార్థ్) ఒక సాప్ట్ వేర్ ఎంప్లాయ్. ఐతే, ఒక అమ్మాయిని ప్రేమించి మోసపోతాడు. అనంతరం ఆ బాధలో సిద్దు డిప్రెషన్‌లోకి వెళ్లిపోతాడు. ఈ క్రమంలో జరిగిన కొన్ని నాటకీయ పరిణామాల మధ్య నందిని (అనుపమ పరమేశ్వరన్) ఓ డైరీని చదువుతాడు. సిద్ధు నందని ఆలోచనలకు పూర్తిగా కనెక్ట్ అయిపోతాడు. ఈ మధ్యలో సిద్ధు, నందిని గురించి చాలా ఆసక్తికరమైన విషయాలను తెలుసుకుంటాడు. పూర్తిగా సిద్దు, నందిని రాసిన 18 పేజెస్ లా మారిపోయాక అతను జీవితం ఎలా టర్న్ అయింది ?, అసలు సిద్దు – నందిని మధ్య ఎలా ప్రేమ పుట్టింది ?, కలుసుకున్న మొదటి కలయికలోనే వీరిద్దరూ గొప్ప ప్రేమికులుగా ఎలా మిగిలారు ? అనేది మిగిలిన కథ.

ప్లస్ పాయింట్స్ :

ఈ డిజిటల్ జనరేషన్ లో కేవలం ఫీలింగ్స్ తో ప్యూర్ లవ్ లో పడటం, పైగా ప్రేమించడానికి కారణం ఉండకూడదు, ఎందుకు ప్రేమంచామో రీజన్స్ వెతుక్కోకూడదు అనే కోణంలో సాగిన ఈ ఫీల్ గుడ్ లవ్ డ్రామాలో మంచి ఎమోషనల్ లవ్ స్టోరీ ఉంది. అలాగే గుడ్ ఎమోషన్స్ తో పాటు డీసెంట్ లవ్ ట్రీట్మెంట్ కూడా సినిమాలో చాలా బాగా ఆకట్టుకుంటాయి.

దర్శకుడు సూర్యప్రతాప్ పల్నాటి ఈ సినిమాలో లవర్స్ మధ్య అద్భుతమైన ఎమోషన్ ఉంటే ఎంత బాగుంటుందో చాల చక్కగా చూపించాడు. మళ్లీ అంతలోనే ఆ పాత్రల మధ్య ఆలోచనలను, జ్ఞాపకాలను, అనుభవాలను కూడా చాలా బాగా ఎస్టాబ్లిష్ చేశాడు. సుకుమార్ రాసిన కథలో కొన్ని ఎమోషనల్ సీన్స్ బాగున్నాయి. ముఖ్యంగా క్లైమాక్స్ ఎపిసోడ్ చాలా బాగుంది.

నటీనటుల నటన విషయానికి వస్తే.. హీరోగా కూడా నటించిన నిఖిల్ తన టైమింగ్ తో అండ్ తన ఎమోషనల్ యాక్టింగ్ తో బాగా నటించాడు. సినిమాలోని కోర్ ఎమోషన్ని నిఖిల్ తన హావభావాలతోనే బాగా పలికించాడు. అలాగే హీరోయిన్ అనుపమ పరమేశ్వరన్ కూడా చాలా బాగా నటించింది. పోసాని కృష్ణ మురళి, అజయ్, గోపరాజు రమణ తదితరులు తమ పాత్రలకు పూర్తి న్యాయం చేశారు. ఇక ఇతర పాత్రల్లో కనిపించిన మిగిలిన నటీనటులు కూడా తమ నటనతో ఆకట్టుకున్నారు.

మైనస్ పాయింట్స్ :

సుకుమార్ తీసుకున్న కథాంశం, రాసిన కథ బాగున్నప్పటికీ.. కథనం మాత్రం కొన్ని చోట్ల సింపుల్ గా చాలా స్లోగా సాగుతుంది. ముఖ్యంగా సెకెండ్ హాఫ్ లో కొన్ని చోట్ల స్క్రీన్ ప్లే ఇంట్రస్ట్ కలిగించలేని ట్రీట్మెంట్ తో బాగా స్లోగా సాగుతుంది. ఇక హీరోహీరోయిన్ల మధ్య ఉన్న కొన్ని లవ్ సీన్స కూడా రెగ్యులర్ గానే ఉంటాయి.

దీనికితోడు దర్శకుడు కమర్షియల్ అంశాలను దృష్టిలో పెట్టుకోకుండా ఓన్లీ ప్రేమ సన్నివేశాలతోనే సినిమాని నడిపాడు. అలాగే కొన్ని ఓవర్ డ్రామా సీన్స్ కూడా సినిమాకి బలహీనతగా నిలుస్తాయి. మొత్తానికి దర్శకుడు స్క్రిప్ట్ లో ఉన్న కంటెంట్ ను స్క్రీన్ మీద బాగా ఎలివేట్ చేసినా.. సినిమాలో కొన్ని రొటీన్ అండ్ బోరింగ్ సీన్స్ ను ట్రిమ్ చేసి వుంటే సినిమాకి ప్లస్ అయ్యేది.

సాంకేతిక విభాగం :

ఇక సాంకేతిక నిపుణుల గురించి మాట్లాడుకుంటే.. పల్నాటి సూర్య ప్రతాప్ దర్శకుడిగా ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు. అయితే, స్క్రీన్ ప్లే పరంగా ఈ సినిమా ఆకట్టుకోదు. సంగీత దర్శకుడు గోపి సుందర్ అందించిన పాటలు బాగున్నాయి. అదే విధంగా బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ స్కోర్ కూడా కొన్ని కీలక సన్నివేశాల్లో చాలా బాగుంది. ఇక ఎడిటర్ నవీన్ నూలి అనవసరమైన సీన్స్ ని ఇంకా టైట్ గా ట్రీమ్ చేసి ఉండి ఉంటే, సినిమాకి ప్లస్ అయ్యేది. వసంత్ సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ బాగుంది. ఇక నిర్మాతలు పాటించిన నిర్మాణ విలువలు బాగున్నాయి.

18 పేజెస్ అంటూ వచ్చిన ఈ ఫీల్ గుడ్ లవ్ డ్రామాలో స్వచ్చమైన ప్రేమ కథ, కొన్ని ప్రేమ సన్నివేశాలు అలాగే ట్రూ ఎమోషన్స్‌ అండ్ క్లైమాక్స్, మరియు నిఖిల్ – అనుపమ నటన చాలా బాగా ఆకట్టుకున్నాయి. అయితే, కొన్ని చోట్ల ప్లే స్లోగా, రొటీన్ గా సాగడం సినిమాకి మైనస్ అయ్యింది. ఓవరాల్ గా ఈ సినిమా మాత్రం ఓ వర్గం ప్రేక్షకులను బాగా మెప్పిస్తోంది.

Nikhil Siddhartha scored national success with devotional thriller Karthikeya 2. He along with Anupama have come up with 18 Pages, the story by Sukumar and helmed by Kumari 21F director. In his decade-and-half old career, Nikhil opted for a complete love story. This raises curiosity on what made him so impressive about this film. Gopi Sundar’s music and Geetha Arts production make 18 Pages an interesting film to watch out for despite getting delayed for long. Has Nikhil and Anupama continued their success streak? Find out.

Siddhu (Nikhil Siddhartha), an app developer, is a jilted lover who comes across a random two-year-old dairy on the street that belongs to Nandini (Anupama Parameswaran). Siddhu learns interesting things about Nandini’s world and completely falls for her. Mystery begins to unravel as Siddhu tries to dig more about Nandini’s whereabouts. What happened to Nandini? Did Siddhu ever meet Nandini? This is what 18 pages is all about.

Performances Nikhil yet again proves he has a knack over picking good stories. He keeps his reputation with 18 Pages. He shines as Siddhu. No doubt, it is the story of Nandita (Anupama Parameswaran), but Siddhu takes the centre stage and carries the film on his shoulders. Anupama is the perfect cast for Nandini. She scores in emotional scenes. Sarayu as Bhagi gets a notable side character as the hero’s friend. Dinesh Tej as doctor Sandeep has a role that helps in taking forward the film at crucial junctures. Posani Krishna Murali as a lawyer is alright. Ajay is the main villain in the film and he makes an impact notwithstanding the less screen presence. Goparaju Ramana as bus conductor Ramakrishna too has an important role too. The film has small characters with importance in the story which rarely happens. Kudos to writer Sukumar and director Pratap.

Technicalities Master craftsman Sukumar unleashed his true potential as a writer with the story of 18 Pages. His writing strength is conspicuous. Kumari 21F fame Surya Pratap helmed it well. Gopi Sundar’s music is impressive. Couple of songs are good. Technically, 18 Pages doesn’t have any glaring mistakes. It has some pace issues and its climax drags. But they can be forgiven.

Thumbs Up Nikhil & Anupama Sukumar’s Story Emotional Depth

Thumbs Down Back and Forth Narration Draggy Climax

18 Pages seems to have some distant similarities to Ajith and Devayani’s Prema Lekha. Also, one can’t help but recall some old films of hero and heroine loving each other anonymously without meeting. This film belongs to the same legion. Albeit, 18 Pages is a different film owing to a hidden crime thriller perfectly blended into it. Sukumar’s writing is the strength of the film. The tension and suspense is built well. The film makes the audience engrossed and involved into the story totally. It is where the film scores. The lead pair played their parts well too. The emotional depth in the story has worked well too.

The screenplay of 18 pages is non-linear. It is the best way to narrate this story. However, this back-and-forth narration becomes so much that it puts us off at some portions since it disconnects the audience emotionally from the story of Nandini. The first of the film sets the interest on Nandini by revealing minute details one after the other. The second half is all about unraveling the mysteries and Nandini’s pending good deeds completed by Siddhu. It goes down a familiar path, but it never gets boring. The film’s tone and mood is intact throughout the film without any distractions. Nowhere, the film doesn’t deviate from its main story.

The film picks up the pace with the lead actor’s smart investigation into mystery. This delves audiences into the hidden crime angle. Though the climax portion drags and drags, it keeps the viewers hooked to screens till the last scene. This shows how one wants Siddhu and Nandini together. It caters to those who believe in love. Some dialogues are very well-written. Quotes on love also connecting. Gopi Sundar’s music and background score is impressive. The climax is a bit draggy. Overall, 18 Pages has its moments despite having pace issues. Yet, the film is a heart-touching love story with its soul in the right place. This love story of Siddhu and Nandini tug at the heartstrings. It is worth a watch.

Bottom-line: Emotional Yet Engaging!

నిఖిల్‌ సిద్దార్థ, అనుపమ పరమేశ్వరన్‌ జంటగా నటించిన చిత్రం 18 పేజెస్‌. సుకుమార్ కథను అందించిన ఈ సినిమాకి సూర్యప్రతాప్‌ దర్శకత్వం వహించారు. కార్తికేయ బ్లాక్ బస్టర్ హిట్‌ తర్వాత సరికొత్త స్టోరీతో నిఖిల్ ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకొచ్చారు. డిసెంబర్ 23 రిలీజైన ఈ చిత్రం ఎలా ఉందో రివ్యూలో చూద్దాం. 

కథేంటంటే.. సిద్ధు( నిఖిల్) ఓ సాఫ్ట్‌వేర్ ఉద్యోగి. ఇంటికి దూరంగా ఓ రూమ్‌లో ఉంటూ ఆఫీస్‌కు వెళ్తుంటాడు. అదే సమయంలో ఓ అమ్మాయిని ప్రేమిస్తాడు. కానీ ఊహించని విధంగా నిఖిల్‌కు ఆ అమ్మాయి గట్టి షాక్‌ ఇస్తుంది. ఆ షాక్‌ నుంచి డిప్రెషన్‌లో వెళ్లిన నిఖిల్‌కు సహాద్యోగి బాగీ( సరయూ) అండగా నిలుస్తుంది. అనుకోకుండా సిద్దుకు రోడ్డు పక్కన  ఒక రోజు డైరీ దొరుకుతుంది.  

అది ఓ పల్లెటూరు అమ్మాయి నందిని(అనుపమ పరమేశ్వరన్‌)రాసిన డైరీ.  అసలు ఆ డైరీ  ఏముంది? నందిని చుట్టూ ఓ గ్యాంగ్ ఎందుకు తిరుగుతుంది? ఆ డైరీ చదివాక సిద్ధులో వచ్చిన మార్పులేంటి?  అసలు నిఖిల్(సిద్ధు) నందినిని కలిశాడా? వారిద్దరి ప్రేమ సక్సెస్ అయిందా? లేదా? చివరికి ఈ కథలో ఎలాంటి మలుపులు చోటు చేసుకున్నాయన్నదే అసలు కథ.

ఎలా ఉందంటే.. థ్రిల్లింగ్‌ ఎలిమెంట్స్‌తో కూడిన ఓ స్వచ్ఛమైన ప్రేమ కథ ఇది. అమ్మాయిని చూడకుండా ప్రేమించడం అనే కాన్సెప్ట్‌తో ఈ కథనం సాగుతుంది. తెలిసిన కథే అయినా సుకుమార్‌ టీమ్‌ ట్రీట్‌మెంట్‌ చాలా ఫ్రెష్‌గా, కొత్తగా ఉంది. ఒకపైపు ప్యూర్‌ లవ్‌స్టోరీని చూపిస్తూనే.. మరోవైపు తర్వాత ఏం జరుగుతుందనే టెన్షన్‌ని ప్రేక్షకులకు కలిగించారు.  ఊహించని ట్విస్టులతో ఆద్యంతం ఆసక్తికరంగా కథనం సాగుతుంది.

సినిమా మొత్తంలో హీరో, హీరోయిన్లు చివరి సీన్ వరకు అస్సలు కలుసుకోరు. కలుసుకున్నా కూడా వారిద్దరి మధ్య మాటలు అసలే ఉండవు. అయినా కూడా ఎక్కడ బోర్‌ కొట్టించకుండా స్క్రీన్‌ప్లే అదరగొట్టారు సుకుమార్‌. సుకుమార్‌ అనుకున్న పాయింట్‌ని తెరపై చూపించడంలో వందశాతం సఫలం అయ్యాడు దర్శకుడు పల్నాటి సూర్య ప్రతాప్. సినిమా ఫస్టాఫ్ హీరో హీరోయిన్ల ఇంట్రడక్షన్, పాటలు, సరదా సన్నివేశాలతో సాగింది. ఇంటర్వెల్ ట్విస్ట్ ఆకట్టుకుంటుంది.సెకండాఫ్‌ ఆద్యంత ట్విస్ట్‌లతో సాగుతుంది. కథ ముందుకు సాగే కొద్ది ఆసక్తి మరింత పెరుగుతుంది. మొత్తంగా 18 పేజీల డైరీతో సస్పెన్స్ లవ్‌ స్టోరీని చక్కగా తెరకెక్కించారు

ఎవరెలా చేశారంటే.. నిఖిల్ మరోసారి తన నటనతో ఆకట్టుకున్నారు. సాఫ్ట్‌వేర్ ఇంజినీర్‌గా నిఖిల్ ఈ సినిమాలో కొత్తగా కనిపించారు. నిఖిల్  ఎమోషన్స్‌తో మరోసారి ఆకట్టుకున్నారు. ఈ సస్పెన్స్ లవ్‌ స్టోరీలో అనుపమ పరమేశ్వరన్ మరోసారి తన నటనతో మెప్పించింది. మొబైల్ లేకుండా పల్లెటూరి అమ్మాయి పాత్రలో అనుపమ ఒదిగిపోయింది. సరయూ నిఖిల్‌కు సహాద్యోగిగా తెలంగాణ యాసలో అదరగొట్టింది. మధ్యలో రఘుబాబు కామెడీతో అలరించాడు. లాయర్‌ పాత్రలో పోసాని కృష్ణమురళి, డాక్టర్‌ సందీప్‌గా దినేశ్ తేజ్, కండక్టర్‌ పాత్రలో రమణ, విలన్‌ పాత్రలో అజయ్(తల్వార్‌) తమ పాత్రలకు న్యాయం చేశారు. జీఏ2 పిక్చర్స్, సుకుమార్‌ రైటింగ్స్ బ్యానర్స్ సినిమా నిర్మాణ విలువలు బాగున్నాయి. గోపీసుందర్ బీజీఎంతో అదరగొట్టాడు. పల్నాటి సూర్య ప్రతాప్‌ డైరెక్షన్‌ బాగుంది. వసంత్ సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ, నవీన్ నూలి ఎడిటింగ్ బాగున్నాయి.

18 Pages Review: Not a Refreshing Story

The names of Allu Aravind, Sukumar, and Bunny Vaas, and the hit pair Nikhil and Anupama are enough to raise interest about "18 Pages". In addition, two songs have become popular. So, the film has generated positive pre-release buzz.

Let us see if the film lives up to expectations.

Story: Siddhu (Nikhil Siddhartha) works as an app developer for a software company. A 2019 diary written by a young woman named Nandini is discovered by him (Anupama Parameswaran).

Siddhu learns from her diary entries that she values face-to-face interaction with others over communication via digital means. Her trip to Hyderabad from her Andhra village was motivated by the need to deliver a cover to Venkatrao, a mutual friend of her grandfather's.

Siddhu develops feelings for her after reading the journal, and he travels to her hometown to finally meet her. Siddhu finds out from Nandini's relatives that she was killed in a car accident a few months ago. Astonished by the news, he heads back to Hyderabad.

Has she really passed away?

Artistes’ Performances: Nikhil Siddharth gives a convincing performance as a young man who falls for a girl he has never seen or met. But he doesn't have a consistent appearance; rather, he seems to be out of shape in a few key spots.

Anupama Parameswaran shines in the role of the heroine.

Sarayu, in her role as Nikhil's friend, delivers some humorous lines. Short cameos from Posani and Ajay are fine.

Technical Excellence: The music by Gopi Sundar is the main attraction. Whether it's the heartbreak song "Time Ivvu" or the melodious number "Nannaya Raasina" or "Nee Valle Pilla," all of the songs fit in perfectly with the movie's overall theme.

Srikanth Vissa has done a fair job with the dialogue. The story that Sukumar has written feels dated.

The film has decent cinematography, but its visual style is inconsistent. Sometimes it just seems so...old.

Analysis A girl and boy falling in love without ever meeting is an old concept. Ajith's "Prema Lekha" dealt with the same subject. So, how does a hero falling in love with a girl accidentally by reading her diary become a novel plot line? The bare bones of Sukumar's story are interesting, but they don't capture the current times.

The script has some serious problems. If Nikhil Siddharth's character fell in love with Anupama after reading her diary in one sitting (the whole thing is only 18 pages long, hence the title), we could see that happening. However, in the film, he is shown to get excited after every turn of the page, and to react wildly to every incident narrated in the story as if it were happening at that very moment. It's hard to imagine how a 2022 computer whiz like him would respond to events in 2019 dairy.

It's also shown that he reads a page or two a day for a couple of days and then starts doing things like turning off social media apps, etc. that Nandini did in 2019. This doesn't feel like a natural response on the part of the character, but rather like a screenwriter's shortcut.

Aside from this and other logical issues, "18 Pages" captures our attention from the start. The initial events, such as Nikhl's break-up with his girlfriend and his reactions to Anupama's diary, are interesting. The situations preceding the song "Nannayya Raasina" are also enjoyable. Another interesting episode in the film is the tension that the hero feels when he suspects she has married his neighbour.

However, aside from a few episodes, the sluggish narrative and unconvincing kidnap drama are detrimental to the flow. The second half is structured like a thriller, and when the true mystery is revealed, it is completely unconvincing. The reason given for the importance of a "cover" is ridiculous and illogical. The final moments appear to deviate from the main theme. Many implausible events occur.

Fortunately, the film concludes in a more convincing manner.

Overall, "18 Pages" succeeds only intermittently; the drama is underwhelming, and the love story fails to resonate. There are some good songs, and the first half is pretty good, but overall it just doesn't feel very modern.

Bottom line: Only Few Pages

Nikhil Siddhartha and Anupama Parameswaran’s romantic love drama, 18 Pages had a theatrical release today. Let’s see how it fares.

Story: Siddharth ( Nikhil) an app developer by profession finds a Diary roadside in a drunken condition. Later, he opens it and starts reading and comes to know that the diary was written by a girl named Nandini( Anupama Parmeswaran) 2 years back in 2019. During the reading process, Siddhu falls in love with Nandini and starts searching for her in reality. Will Siddhu find whereabouts of Nandini? What is the role of Dr Sandeep (Dinesh Tej) in the entire setup? What is the backstory of Nandini, forms the crucial crux.

Performances: Nikhil is fine with his usual acting as a guy who is search of his soulmate. His acting during the second half proceedings bring depth to the narrative.

Heroine Anupama Parmeswaran is main attraction for this romantic love drama. Her makeover as an innocent girl is good and gave effortless acting in the character that has scope perform. The virtual chemistry between the lead pair is showcased nicely.

Arjun Kalyan is decent in his role as a doctor. His conversation scenes with Anupama’s character add weightage to a few key scenes. Bigg Boss fame Sarayu gets a meaty role as hero’s best buddy. Her role has proper justification.

Actors such as Shatru and Ajay are okay in their negative shaded roles. Padding artists such as Goparaju Ramana among others are fine in their limited roles.

Technicalities: Gopi Sundar’s music registers. Be it songs or background score, Gopi Sundar delivered quality output for the film. Three montage songs are shot nicely.

The photography work by A Vasanth is top-notch. His work is visible on screen. The texture of the film is showcased superbly. Editing by Naveen Nooli is fine.

Dubbing work looks disturbed in a few scenes. The team would have rechecked the final copy properly to avoid it. Production design work is good and so is the case with the production values.

Analysis: While star director Sukumar provided story, screenplay and dialogues, his mentor Palnati Surya Pratap directs 18 Pages. The film has a fresh concept that is related to two different time zones.

Though the theme is nice, the entire first half runs on a slow note with some artificial emotions. The cinematic liberty used during this time will definitely divert the audience mood. Till interval, the film has no solid connectivity.

But surprisingly, the film starts picking up the pace in the second half where the hero starts intense search for the heroine. The emotional scenes which come during this time are executed neatly. To summerize, 18 Pages is a romantic love drama that has soul in it. Though the narrative has a few cliches, overall it will end up as a satisfactory watch.

Verdict: Engaging romance!

‘18 Pages’ movie review: A fairly compelling romance thriller

Nikhil siddhartha and anupama parameswaran’s new telugu film, written by sukumar, is an intriguing romance drama that works despite a few hiccups.

18 Pages , written by well-known director Sukumar and helmed by Palnati Surya Pratap, narrates a romance drama with a hint of mystery in which two characters fall in love without having met. The film brings together Nikhil Siddhartha and Anupama Parameswaran after Karthikeya 2 and places them in a contemporary but nostalgia-laced set up.

Siddharth (Nikhil) is a mobile phone addict and an app developer who goes through a heartbreak early on. The hasty and sketchy portrayal of that romance, breakup and his subsequent shedding tears on the Durgam Cheruvu cable bridge and pretty much everywhere in Hyderabad barely moves us. It is by design. It is the writer’s and director’s way of telling us that he hasn’t yet found true love. 

Before the actual story begins, we meet a bunch of characters whose journeys and actions may have a bearing on the romance that is going to unfold. Siddharth or Siddhu’s bond with his parents is strained and his anger stems from how he thinks they have not understood the plight of his grandfather. His outburst to his father drives home a point but does he pause to think if he has had the time for his grandfather? Not quite.

Siddhu’s trusted friend and sounding board is his colleague Baghi (Sarayu Roy), who seems to be the most pragmatic character in the film. The rough edges in Siddhu’s personality go through a change when he finds a two-year-old diary of Nandini (Anupama). The 18 pages of her diary introduce him to a diametrically opposite personality. She is a quintessential, in fact, a tad cliched, representation of a simple, innocent young woman who thinks and does good to everyone who crosses her path. Mainstream cinema has had several characters like her. To an extent, it is Sukumar’s writing that stops her from being boring. Anupama, however, is charming in her portrayal and keeps us invested. Nikhil’s earnestness and Gopi Sundar’s music also work for the film. 

Unlike Siddhu, Nandini never uses a mobile phone and believes in human interaction. While someone on a train takes a selfie to document the golden sunrise, she believes in living the moment and filing it away in her memory without the distraction of a phone. You get the drift. We get a series of incidents to show how she transforms the lives of those around her. An equal number of sequences showcase what happens when Siddhu applies some of Nandini’s principles in his life. The way he lands a project despite missing a meeting because he stops using Google maps is incredulous. The story demands that we suspend disbelief and give in to Siddhu and Nandini’s idea of looking at life with minimal use of technology.

We get a sense of Siddhu’s growing interest in Nandini and falling for her hopelessly through his fun exchanges with Baghi. The palpable tension in this one-sided romance is conveyed beautifully and we are curious to know what happened to Nandini.

The story transitions from a simple romance to a thriller when Siddhu and Baghi try to unravel the truth about Nandini. As they dig deep, several questions remain unanswered. The backstory of her family and the whereabouts of her friends in Hyderabad, for instance, are on shaky ground. Siddhu’s transformation into a messiah of sorts is also unconvincing. Unless he broke a bank or sold his share of the property, it is tough to buy the hypothesis that he could do so much by way of charity.

Nevertheless, the closing moments to this love story resurrect the film.

తెలుగు సినిమా రంగంలో యువ హీరో అల్లు శిరీష్, గాయత్రి భరద్వాజ్, ప్రిషా రాజేశ్ సింగ్ హీరోయిన్లుగా నటించిన చిత్రం బడ్డీ. ఈ చిత్రాన్ని స్టూడియో గ్రీన్ ఫిలింస్ బ్యానర్ పై కేఈ జ్ఞానవేల్ రాజా, అధన జ్ఞానవేల్ రాజా నిర్మిస్తున్నారు. శామ్ ఆంటోన్ దర్శకత్వం వహించారు. నేహ జ్ఞానవేల్ రాజా కో ప్రొడ్యూసర్ గా వ్యవహరిస్తున్నారు. అడ్వెంచరస్ యాక్షన్ ఎంటర్ టైనర్ గా ఈ సినిమా తెరకెక్కింది. ఆగస్టు 2న బడ్డీ సినిమా గ్రాండ్ థియేట్రికల్ రిలీజ్ అయింది. ఇప్పటికే పలు పట్టణాల్లో ప్రీమియర్స్ ప్రదర్శించిన ఈ సినిమాపై నెటిజన్ల అభిప్రాయం ఏమిటంటే?

బడ్డీ సినిమాకు థియేటర్‌లో ఆగస్టు 2వ తేదీన రిలీజ్ అవుతున్నది. ఈ సినిమా టికెట్ రేట్లు గణనీయంగా తగ్గించి సాదారణ ప్రేక్షకుడికి అందుబాటులోకి తెచ్చే ప్రయత్నం చేశారు. సింగిల్ స్క్రీన్ 99 రూపాయలు, మల్టీప్లెక్స్ 125 రూపాయల టికెట్ రేట్స్ పెట్టారు. దాదాపు 200 మంది ఎగ్జిబిటర్స్ తో మాట్లాడి మా ప్రొడ్యూసర్ టికెట్ రేట్లు తగ్గించడంలో నిర్మాత జ్ఞానవేల్ రాజా చొరవ చూపారు.

ఇటీవల వైజాగ్‌లో ప్రదర్శించిన ప్రీమియర్లకు భారీ స్పందన లభించింది. ఈ చిత్రంలో ఇంటర్వెల్ బ్యాంగ్ అదిరిపోయింది. జై బాలయ్య అంటూ వచ్చే సన్నివేశాలు బాగున్నాయి. సినిమా ఆద్యంతం వినోదభరితంగా ఉంటుంది అని ఓ నెటిజన్ కామెంట్ చేశారు.

హీరో ఆర్య నటించిన టెడ్డీ సినిమా చూడని వాళ్లకు ఈ మూవీ తప్పకుండా నచ్చుతుంది. నేను ఆ సినిమా చూడలేదు. కానీ తెలుగు టెడ్డీ చూశాను. చాలా బాగుంది. సెకండాఫ్‌లో తెలుగు నేటివిటికి తగినట్టు కమర్షియల్ బ్లాక్స్ రాసుకొన్నారు. అవి చాలా బాగా వర్కవుట్ అయ్యాయి. కిడ్స్ పక్కా ఎంజాయ్ చేస్తారు. హిప్ హాప్ మ్యూజిక్ బాగుంది. శిరీష్‌కు మరో డిఫరెంట్ మూవీ అని నెటిజన్ కామెంట్ చేశారు.
