About Greta Thunberg

At age 15, Greta Thunberg began protesting to demand action on climate change. She walked out of school and sat outside the Swedish parliament every day for three weeks. Since then, she has inspired students around the world to protest and she has become a globally recognized climate activist.

Save Environment Speech for Students and Children

Save environment speech.

Our environment is under distress and it is not a hidden fact anymore. The threat it is facing right now is alarming and it is our duty to save it before it gets too late. As inhabitants of this earth, everyone must come together to do their bit to save our environment. After all, it is because of our activities that our ecological balance has been disturbed. We must make sure that instead of over-exploiting the environment’s resources, we must conserve them. It is important to note that even the littlest of actions impact the environment directly or indirectly. Read Save Environment Speech here.

Need to Save Environment

The degrading quality of life on earth is well-known to all. It is all around us, one just needs to start noticing the signs. The harsh weather patterns are proof that our environment needs saving more than ever.

The occurrences of natural calamities are increasing day by day which is resulting in loss of lives. Further, the melting of the glaciers is another alarming point as to why we need to save the environment.

In addition to that, the increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is proving to be more harmful than ever. If we do not take immediate action, we will have to face grave consequences at the hands of nature.

It is rather important to note that by saving the environment, we will be saving mankind. We have to do this for our survival and not the earth’s survival. Mother earth has survived for millions of years and will continue to do so. It is mankind that is at risk, so we must start now.

Ways to Save Environment

We need to start with the proper handling of waste materials. To do so, one must begin with recycling and proper disposal of waste items. The use of coal must be reduced and we must switch to reusable power like hydro or solar power.

This way, we can adopt a healthy and greener lifestyle. On a bigger level, we see that cities must be planned as per the available water resources. This will help in the conservation of water resources. Avoid using hot water, and make do with cold water when possible. Further, the farmers must use organic fertilizers in place of pesticides.

Further, air pollution must be reduced at all costs. Everyone must avoid taking their personal cars or bikes if possible. Try carpooling or taking public transport for the same. Do not waste electricity so as to prevent global warming.

Switch off fans and light when not in use, unplug electrical appliances as well. Try to use recycled products so no unnecessary waste is produced. Moreover, avoid the use of plastic and switch to greener alternatives. For instance, use reusable bags and containers. Do not litter the roads and prevent your loved ones from doing so too.

Most importantly, plant trees as many as you can. As the amount of carbon dioxide present in the air and the rate of deforestation happening is very disruptive. So, as the trees will enhance the air quality, we must encourage the planting of trees. Moreover, it is equally important to discourage deforestation.

Every year, we are losing our forests which carry the potential to make the air cleaner. It must begin with us and our children. Teach them from a young age to be responsible for the environment and work to save it for a better and greener future.

Essay On ‘Save The Earth’ – 10 Lines, Short And Long Essay For Children

Priyadarshika

Key Points To Remember When Writing An Essay On ‘Save The Earth’ For Lower Primary Classes

10 lines on ‘save the earth’ for kids, a paragraph on ‘save the earth’, short essay on ‘save the earth’ in english for children, long essay on ‘save the earth’ for children, what will your child learn from the ‘save the earth’ essay.

Practising essay writing from a young age helps young learners develop an understanding of sentence formation and appropriate words. It also allows children to expand their vocabulary and learn new words. Learning new words and using them in sentences helps them improve their writing skills. Our planet is rich in natural resources, but it is rapidly depleting due to human greed. Writing an essay on saving the earth in English makes children aware of their surroundings and familiarises them with the steps that can be taken to improve the situation. This article provides some pointers and examples to help students write a good essay on saving the earth for classes 1, 2, and 3.

Writing an essay on ‘save the earth’ can be interesting, provided certain things are kept in mind. Following these tips enables your children to write an essay that is different and unique from others. If you, too, are wondering about how to write an essay on this topic, here are some tips for you:

  • Start with an introductory paragraph giving a general introduction about our planet earth and why is it beneficial for us to save it from depletion. The introduction should be such that it provides a flow to the entire content ahead.
  • The second part of the essay should be its body. The body should be divided into smaller paragraphs, each focusing on a different aspect. For instance, one paragraph can talk about all the problems faced by our planet; the second can talk about the reasons behind the same.
  • It is always advised to summarise your thoughts in a concluding paragraph.

Saving our planet, mother earth, is the need of the hour. We should understand our responsibility and do our bit to improve this world. Here are a few lines on save earth that can be used to write a good essay for class 1 and 2 kids:

  • Earth is the only planet in the universe that has life in this universe.
  • The planet has given us abundant natural resources like water, air, sunlight and more.
  • Humans have been exploiting the planet for their greed.
  • This has caused a lot of adversity such as global warming, unnatural disasters etc.
  • All of us should work towards protecting and saving our planet.
  • We should plant more trees.
  • We should stop hunting animals to meet our selfish needs, affecting the ecological balance.
  • We should follow the three R’s, i.e., Reduce, Reduce and Recycle.
  • Saving natural resources, water, and the environment should be our primary goal.
  • We should also spread awareness regarding saving the earth among the public.

Short paragraphs help children of lower classes to read and understand easily. It also guides kids to write a good essay on saving the earth for their classroom activities or even competitions. Given below is a short paragraph on save earth:

As we all know, the earth is the only planet in the universe where life exists. Not only that, but the earth also provides us with numerous natural resources such as sunlight, water, air, minerals, and so on. Humans, however, have depleted almost all natural resources due to greed. They have also hunted down many wildlife animals, causing the majority of species to become extinct. “Save the Earth” is a phrase that should be used to raise public awareness. We must plant more trees, reduce pollution, and conserve natural resources to save the planet. We should also reduce exploiting the gift of nature and follow the 3R’s, i.e., Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

Saving the earth is very crucial at this point. Writing a short essay on this topic allows the children to be more aware of their surroundings and also allows them to take steps to protect the environment. Given below is a save earth essay for classes 1,2 and 3:

Short Essay On 'Save The Earth' In English For Children

We often refer to our planet earth as “Mother Nature”, but when it comes to treating it like a mother, we fail to do so. Our planet is the home of many living creatures such as mammals, reptiles, plants and many more and all beings need to sustain an ecological balance. However, due to the unfavourable activities of humans, the ecological balance of the earth is being destroyed. Humans are cutting down trees, creating pollution as a result of which global warming is increasing. We all should take individual steps to save our planet. The government has taken steps to protect the environment, such as banning plastics and plastic products, running campaigns to reduce waste and keep our surroundings clean, and so on. We must also take steps such as planting more trees, replacing large vehicles with bicycles, limiting air conditioners, and using LED lights. We can save our planet if we follow at least a few of these steps.

Writing an essay on ‘save the earth’ helps children understand the world’s serious situation and encourages them to help find solutions. A long essay for class 3 kids is provided below to help them understand what points to include when writing an essay:

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not enough to satisfy every man’s greed,” Mahatma Gandhi once said. Although he made this statement many years ago, it is still valid. Mother Nature, as we fondly refer to our planet Earth, provides us with a wide range of natural resources such as sunlight, minerals, and water, to name a few. Humans have used these resources for a long time and have exploited them to a large extent.

Why Is It Necessary To Save Earth?

Our planet earth is facing plenty of problems due to mindless human behaviour, which has resulted in a difficult position. We have cut down trees to build industrial factories, buildings, and townships, among other things. These industrial plants emit hazardous chemicals that pollute the air and water. Population growth is also a significant contributor to the earth’s depleting condition. The increased number of cars on the road has resulted in pollution and the emission of harmful greenhouse gases, all of which contribute to global warming. As a result, seasons have been pushed back, monsoons have disappeared in some areas while flooding has occurred in others, and glaciers are melting.

Easy Ways To Save Earth

Saving the earth is not difficult if we all contribute our tiny bits towards it. Some of the easy steps that we can take in our daily lives to save our planet are:

  • We should reduce our use of plastic in our daily routine.
  • We need to plant more trees.
  • We should prioritise water conservation. Bathing in a bucket rather than a shower can save litres of water.
  • We should use carpools or shared vehicles to travel daily because it reduces pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • We should adhere to the 3Rs, which emphasise reducing, reusing, and recycling.
  • We should use LED bulbs.
  • We should reduce our electricity consumption by not unnecessarily leaving fans, lights, or other electrical appliances on.
  • We should also concentrate on solar and renewable energy sources, such as solar panels.

This essay will help your children learn more about their surroundings while also making them aware of why we need to save our planet. This also encourages them to participate in various Earth-saving campaigns organised by multiple groups.

Earth has provided us with numerous resources that have been extremely beneficial to humanity over the years. It is our turn to repay our planet by taking steps to protect it.

How to save the planet: a kids’ guide!

Check out our top tips for becoming an eco-hero….

Here at National Geographic Kids, we know how much our readers want to make a positive difference to our world! So, read on to find out how to save the planet…

1. Be a habitat hero!

how to save the planet | a big view of pristine rainforest. a river runs through the middle and there are mountains in the background.

All over the world, wild places are in trouble . As the human population has increased , we’ve taken over more and more land for our homes, farms, factories and roads .

In the rainforest , around 80,000 acres of trees are cut down every day to make way for farming , or to provide wood for industry. In other countries, habitats like grasslands, underwater habitats, and wetlands are also at risk – and so are the animals and plants that live there.

Luckily, lots of people are working hard to protect these precious places, and you can be one of them!

  • – Stand up against deforestation , by avoiding foods that contain unsustainable palm oil .
  • – Keep your local habitats safe by sticking to the paths .
  • – Make your garden wildlife-friendly by setting aside space for nature! You could build a bee hotel , have a log pile , or even create a pond .
  • – If you own a cat that goes outdoors, put a bell on its collar so that vulnerable wildlife can hear it coming and make their escape!

2. Reduce, reuse, recycle!

how to save the planet | three big bins sit alongside eachother. one green one is for compost, one red one for waste, and a yellow one for recycling

We live in a ‘ throwaway culture ‘, where many of our things aren’t built to last. Each year, every house in the UK produces about 1 tonne of waste – that’s about the same weight as a great white shark !

What’s worse, is that 60% of what we throw away, is actually recyclable ! That’s why it’s super important to check the label on every piece of rubbish, to make sure you’re putting it in the right bin.

You'll love our educational magazines for all ages! is written on the post, which shows a Nat Geo Kids book called Wilder Planet

Even better, you can avoid throwing things away altogether , by buying fewer things, taking better care of the things you have, and finding ways to repair or reuse things that are old or broken.

  • – Before you throw something away, stop and think about what else it could be used for! For example, rather than using disposable paper towels to clean up in the kitchen, why not turn old clothes or bedsheets into cloths ? Then, you can use them over and over again!
  • – Ask a grown-up if they can teach you to mend small rips in your clothes, so that they last longer! And if you really have to get rid of something, see if you can give it to charity instead.
  • – Fight plastic pollution by using reusable water bottles , bringing reusable bags with you to the shops, and always taking your rubbish home with you.
  • – Take your plastic prevention one step further by checking out our ten top tips , learning how to make plastic-free gifts , and reducing plastic waste in school too!

3. Be a green eater!

dead fish lie in barrels of ice waiting to be sold

In the past, people thought that we could take whatever we wanted from the planet, without any consequences! Now, we know that’s not true. If we keep taking as much as we want, whenever we want, our planet’s resources could one day run out .

That’s why it’s important that we try to live sustainably. Issues like overfishing , water scarcity (when there’s not enough clean water to go around), and climate change are all affected by our lifestyle choices. Thankfully, there’s lots we can do to help.

Around the world, we eat a whopping total of 360 million tonnes of meat and 156 million tonnes of fish every year. That’s an astonishing amount!

If we could all cut down, just a little bit, it would take the pressure off natural ecosystems, and ensure that these animals – and their habitats – have a healthy future .

  • – Talk to your family, and ask if you could all try some vegetarian or vegan meals . There are loads of meat-free and plant-based recipes available online, or you can try our veggie pasta bake !
  • – Know where your food comes from! When you’re in the supermarket, ask a grown-up to help check things like tins of tuna for signs that they’ve been sustainably fished , like the blue MSC label . These will have been sourced responsibly , in a way that helps protect fish populations .

4. Keep an eye on what you use!

Two young girls play in clean water that spills down from a tap

Our daily lives require an amazing amount of water and energy . In countries like the UK, Australia , or the USA , these things are available at the push of a button or turn of a tap – but sadly, that’s not the case for everyone…

Around the world, 2.5 billion people have no (or unreliable) access to electricity. Plus, 4.2 billion struggle to access clean water every day, which they need for drinking , bathing , washing , growing crops and rearing animals . That’s why those of us that have access to these precious resources should be careful not to waste them.

  • – Go on a vampire hunt! Household appliances that are unnecessarily left on standby are known as ‘ vampire devices ‘ as they sneakily suck up lots of electricity! Make sure they’re all turned off at the wall , to stop them wasting power.
  • – On a sunny day, hang things outside to dry ! This saves energy that would have been used on the dryer.
  • – If you can, try cycling, walking, or using public transport to get out and about, rather than using the car.
  • – Turn off any dripping taps , and make sure you don’t run them for longer than necessary. Turn the taps off while brushing your teeth, and take short showers of four minutes or less!

5. Be a planet advocate!

two blond children, a boy and a girl, sit together. they are filling in a clipboard and clearly working together.

The real secret of how to save the planet? Sharing your knowledge with others, and helping them to become eco-heroes too! Whether it’s spectacular habitats, cool creatures, or eco-friendly living, don’t be afraid to speak up and tell others about your planet passions! It takes lots of people working together to make change happen – so share, share, share!

People could also start a club to save the world and put up posters as well

I'M GONNA PLANT ONE HUNDREAD TREES!!!!

Trees are the natural answer to climate control – they remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store it in the soil, which then helps to reduce climate change. Trees also provide a home for lots of different birds, insects and creatures. You can easily find tree seeds such as acorns, sweet chestnuts and conkers (horse chestnuts) wherever you find mature trees. However, learning how to identify and grow trees adds an entirely new level of appreciation and understanding of nature. Don’t worry if you have no space to plant trees, as indoor plants also do a great job of cleaning the air. By looking after plants, children can learn about the important conditions needed for plants to grow. There are lots of other ways to get involved in this step too; for example, you could help actually grow a forest by raising money for one of the many tree-planting organisations around the world! Even in the centre of a city, once you start looking you will be surprised at how many different creatures you can spot, such as squirrels, birds and foxes. Lots of wild animal species in the UK are under threat right now. One of the best things you can do to help them is to re-wild an area in your garden or school playground. Sprinkle some soil and dead leaves around and let the grass, daisies and dandelions grow. Wildflowers provide excellent food for bees, who are in turn very important for pollinating food crops. You can also invite wild animals such as endangered hedgehogs in by making piles of leaves and twigs for them to nest in. Make sure that you provide gateways for these creatures to move freely to the next garden.

I can do everything else but not vegan thing

Let’s take Action - We can make a difference!

Save the Planet

Cool I do almost all of them

I am alredy making a groop to help save our planet

Earth Day: 5 ways we’re working to heal our planet and combat climate change

International Mother Earth Day is a chance to reflect on how humanity has been treating our planet, and let’s face it: we’ve been poor custodians. And while a steady stream of IPCC reports has painted a legitimately worrying picture of the current state of the planet, don’t lose hope – here's why: there are more innovative ideas for serious climate action than ever and around the world, people are working together on solutions to help repair the damage that’s been done to our fragile home.

But before we get to the exciting stuff, there’s no denying the gravity of the problem.

The Earth is facing a ‘triple planetary crisis’: climate disruption, nature and biodiversity loss, and pollution and waste.

“This triple crisis is threatening the well-being and survival of millions of people around the world. The building blocks of happy, healthy lives – clean water, fresh air, a stable and predictable climate – are in disarray, putting the Sustainable Development Goals in jeopardy”, the UN Secretary-General warns in a video message for Earth Day 2022.

The good news is that there is still hope, António Guterres stresses, reminding us that 50 years ago, the world came together in Stockholm for the pivotal UN Conference on the Human Environment , which kickstarted a global movement.

“Since then, we have seen what is possible when we act as one . We have shrunk the ozone hole. We have expanded protections for wildlife and ecosystems. We have ended the use of leaded fuel, preventing millions of premature deaths. And just last month, we launched a landmark global effort to prevent and end plastic pollution”.

We have proven that together, we can tackle monumental challenges.

The positive developments have not stopped there, the recently recognized right to a healthy environment is gaining traction and young people are more engaged than ever in the combat to take on our planetary threats.

“We have proven that together, we can tackle monumental challenges”, Mr. Guterres says.

Of course, much more needs to be done – and more quickly – to protect our home, but to celebrate Earth Day , we want to highlight five projects being implemented around the world right now aimed at repairing the damage we have caused.

These solutions are just some of the founding initiatives of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration , a global rallying cry launched last year to heal our planet. It aims to prevent, halt and reverse the degradation of ecosystems on every continent and ocean.

So here are 5 ways that we (humans) are working to restore our ailing Earth:

1. Converting coal mines into carbon sinks

Activists of Green Forests Work planting native trees in Appalachia, United States, where surface coal mining has devastated forests...

In Appalachia, a geographical and cultural region in the eastern United States that includes Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia and is named after the Appalachian Mountains, the NGO Green Forests Work (GFW) is restoring forests on lands impacted by coal surface mining projects.

Surface mining is a technique used when coal is less than 200 feet underground. Large machines remove the topsoil and layers of rock and expose coal seams. Miners might also dynamite the tops of mountains and remove them to access the seams.

Once the mining is completed, what was once a forest is often converted into grasslands often composed of non-native species. This means, of course, the loss of large tracts of forested areas and the displacement and even loss of species.

To reverse this incredible damage, since 2009, Green Forests Work has been restoring mined lands by planting nearly 4 million native trees across more than 6,000 acres.

“Many mined lands are among the best places to plant trees for the purposes of mitigating climate change. Because the soils of reclaimed mined lands initially have very little organic carbon, they can serve as carbon sinks for decades, if not centuries, as the forests grow and build the soils,” Michael French, GFW Director of Operations explains to UN News.

He adds that by restoring native forests to these lands, they are restoring the ecosystem services they provide to society, including clean air and water, improved wildlife habitat, climate change mitigation through carbon sequestration, as well as a sustainable economic resource base.

“We at GFW hope that everyone is able to get out and experience the wonders of the natural world and make their own contribution to improving the world around them this Earth Day and every day,” Mr. French highlights.

2. Restoring ecosystem connectivity

This 300 metre long Karda (goanna) Noongar totem has been planted by the Nowanup Ranger Team in the South west of Australia.

Twenty years ago, a satellite photograph of Australia’s south-western corner showing the vast extent of natural vegetation lost due to human activity since the European settlement inspired a group of activists to form Gondwana Link.

The image showed how two-thirds of the vegetation in the region had been cleared across thousands of kilometres, and, over much of the agricultural region, many areas had less than 5-10 per cent of their original bushland (natural undeveloped areas) left.

They realized, however, that many biodiversity hotspots remained intact in conservation areas, although disconnected, across 1000 kilometres.

Even the largest patches of natural habitats are unable to guarantee the survival or continued evolution of species if they remain isolated from each other. Many bird and animal species are being reduced to small, isolated populations that are under stress, for example.

Unless these areas are reconnected , many species could be lost, something Godwana Link is working to prevent.

“Habitats are protected, managed, restored and reconnected throughout the climate gradient that wildlife will move along in the face of climate change, from semi-arid woodlands to tall wet forests. This work is being achieved in ways that support the aspirations of the Noongar and Ngadju people, who were dispossessed in colonial times but are now regaining the right and the ability to be land managers once again,” CEO Keith Bradby explains to UN News.

Mr. Bradby describes how significant gains have been made with the work of a broad range of groups, businesses and individuals contributing a 16-million-hectare habitat area now recognised as the Great Western Woodlands.

“Over 20,000 hectares of farmland has been purchased in the critical habitat gaps, with large swathes under restoration plantings and wildlife already returning. Our state government has announced the end of logging in our native forests”, he adds.

The work of the organization has been recognized globally as an example of what large-scale ecosystem restoration looks like.

“Every day can be Earth Day. We can do it – and the more the merrier”, says Mr. Bradby.

3. Transplanting ‘survivor’ coral fragments

Restored corals in Laughing Bird Caye National Park, Belize.

The image above is from Laughing Bird Caye National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Belize. It shows a restored coral reef previously victim of a bleaching event and in danger of death.

Coral reefs are among the most biologically diverse and valuable ecosystems on Earth, harbouring 25 per cent of all marine life.

They are in danger of disappearing by the end of the century all over the world due to the rising temperature and acidity of our ocean’s consequence of climate change.

Their loss would have devastating consequences not only for marine life, but also for over a billion people globally who benefit directly or indirectly from them.

Fragments of Hope is successfully re-seeding devastated reefs by planting genetically robust, diverse and resilient corals in southern Belize.

As a diver, Lisa Carne, the organization’s founder, explains that besides massive coral bleaching events and hurricanes in the region, she saw some corals bouncing back.

“These are the stronger survivors that we are propagating and replenishing the reef with,” she tells UN News.

Since the early 2000’s, Ms. Carne and other women divers and marine biologists from the NGO have been growing healthy corals in nurseries and them transplanting them by hand in shallow water.

“Our work is important because we are striving to prevent the extinction of the Caribbean acroporids corals which are listed as critically endangered which is one step away from extinct in the wild. We think it is also important to educate and inspire people to do more to understand reefs and the threats to them such as climate change,” she explains.

Today, over 49,000 nursery-grown coral fragments have been successfully out-planted in Laughing Bird Caye National Park, turning it once again into a vibrant tourism destination with thriving corals and abundant marine life. These corals have over six years survivorship and are considered the longest documented in the Caribbean.

New nursery and out-plant sites include Moho Caye (over 11,000 corals out-planted) and South Silk Caye (over 2,000 corals out-planted).

“Our message for this Earth Day 2022 is that we as a global society need to do better. What we’ve been doing so far is not working for our planet. We often think about ecosystems and biomes on a small scale but on a larger scale, business as usual is not working, so we all need to do our part to radically change our ways to protect our planet earth,” urges Ms. Carne.

4. Restoring watersheds affected by the climate crisis in the Andes

Native forests have been largely lost in the Peruvian Andes over the last 500 years following the Spanish conquest...

Another example of large-scale restoration and conservation efforts is happening in the Andes mountains in South America where local communities across five different countries are working together to grow and plant native trees and protect their water sources.

“Native forests have been largely lost in the Andes over the last 500 years following the Spanish conquest. With the last Andean glaciers melting rapidly, water security is now becoming a major issue for local communities and even major South American cities,” Constatino Aucca Chutas, co-founder of the NGO Acción Andina tells UN News.

Mr. Aucca explains that native forests, especially the Polylepis species [shrub and trees that are endemic to the mid- and high-elevation regions of the tropical Andes] and wetlands help create and store large amounts of water around their roots, soils and moss.

“They are our best allies to adapt to climate change and will help secure water for our livelihoods in the next decades to come. But we have to bring them back”, he highlights.

And that’s exactly what Accion Andina is doing: by the end of 2022, they will have planted more than 6 million native trees across the Andes . Their goal is to protect and restore one million hectares of high Andean forests in the next 25 years.

“We have found a unique way to do so: we are reviving the ancient Inca traditions of “ Ayni and Minka – which stands for collaboration and community services in our local Quechua culture. With our growing network of local NGO partners, we help communities protect remaining forests; we invest in local nurseries to grow new native forests; we organize community planting festivals – our renowned Queuña Raymi – to plant up to 100,000 trees in a single day; and we are supporting communities to make an additional living from these new restoration opportunities,” Mr. Aucca explains.

He says that while world leaders are still just talking about possible solutions to climate change, thousands of people are already acting on the ground.

“Mobilizing thousands of people to restore forests and achieve immediate climate action is possible… Our Mother Earth is tired of seeing all this hypocrisy, comfort and ego of the leaders who can decide and put on the ground the solutions to have a healthy planet. Local communities and the planet claim for more action, is time to take action for the sake of all of us,” Mr. Aucca urges in his message for Earth Day.

5. Restoring carbon absorbing seagrass

Manatees, also know as sea cows, are starving to death due to the loss of seagrass.

Seagrass provides food and shelter for many marine organisms. They are multifunctional ecosystems and are often referred as nursery habitats because they usually harbour young fish, smaller species of fish and invertebrates.

Because they are plants, seagrasses photosynthesise in the same way terrestrial plants do, using sunlight to synthetise nutrients from carbon dioxide and water and releasing oxygen.

This means that they are an essential tool in combating climate change, on top of their biological functions.

In the last 40 years, the world has lost one third of seagrass meadows due to sustain pressure from coastal development, water quality decline and of course, climate change.

Project Seagrass in the United Kingdom has been working for a decade to reverse that trend.

With the help of over 3000 volunteers, they have been able to plant over a million seagrass seeds and create awareness of the importance of these plants.

“With two full hectares of seagrass successfully restored, our organization has proved that large-scale seagrass restoration in the UK is possible. We are using a mix of cutting-edge technologies to assess sites and plan field trials”, the organization explains.

A lake inside an Amazon rainforest within the city of Manaus, Brazil.

That’s not all folks

These are just five examples of the more than 50 projects registered with the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. There are thousands of people and organizations already on the ground and making a difference to protect our Earth.

When the UN General Assembly meets this September, we will find out the first 10 World Restoration Flagships , the most promising examples of large-scale and long-term ecosystem restoration.

Bringing back ecosystems from the brink of degradation and loss is possible – and people around the world are already making it happen.

“Because we have only one Mother Earth. We must do everything we can to protect her”, the UN chief reminds us.

Speech on Save Environment: Speech on environment is one of the most important topics as it addresses the critical need to preserve our planet’s resources, safeguard biodiversity, and secure a sustainable future for all. The threat to environment has increased alarmingly over the years. We all owe a duty and responsibility to make our Earth a cleaner and safer place to live in for ourselves as well as for our next generations. But by indiscriminate use of the environmental resources, we have disturbed the ecological balance. It is imperative for us to live in harmony with the environment rather than experimenting with it and over-exploiting it. We should remember that our actions and activities directly and indirectly impact the whole ecosystem. In fact, environment is what sustains us; the quality of our life essentially depends on our surroundings. Here we are providing you four (4) speeches on ‘Save Environment’ issue. You can take your pick as per your academic requirements.

Speech on Save The Environment

Speech on save environment – 1.

Respected Principal, Respected Vice Principal, Respected Teachers and My Fellow Students!

I am happy that today in our morning assembly we have taken this extremely vital topic, i.e. Saving the Environment for speech and discussion. And, it feels privileged that I, as the head girl of the school, have been given this opportunity of delivering a speech. Nothing excites me as much as the discussion on environment and geography; especially when it has become such a trending topic in recent times. I am sure each one of us wants to Save Environment at any cost. However, saving the environment doesn’t mean protecting only our immediate environment, but also our parks, forest reserves and wildlife sanctuaries too. There is no reason to doubt that we all owe this responsibility to make our Mother Earth; a cleaner and safer place to live in.

The all-embracing Mother Earth has bequeathed on human beings some incredibly beautiful gifts of nature, like we have rivers, mountains, forests and different natural resources that help us to survive on this planet every single day. Therefore, it’s our turn now to work towards in saving the environment from the challenges that are posing a constant threat for the existence of our Mother Earth.

Sadly, there is no part of the earth left that has not been affected by our actions so much so that our planet’s health – be it in the form of land where we survive and work on, the ozone layer, the water supply, the wildlife or our species – is being put under constant threat. The environment we live in is of course not as conducive as it used to be earlier. There are hordes of chemical industries excreting poisonous chemicals into the rivers and innumerable vehicles releasing dangerous fumes, people disposing waste in a manner which isn’t safe for our environment and ruining it.

Though the problem has aggravated to quite a great extent, but it does have a solution. It’s just that we will have to keep faith in ourselves that we can do something for our planet.

So let’s pledge to “Save our Mother Earth” in whatever ways possible for us.

There are various ways adopting which we can effectively contribute towards the cause. For instance, we can grow more and more trees in our living surroundings as well as where we find an empty piece of land. Or if you have a backyard or a piece of land at your home, then start planting trees. Plants, as we all know, absorb carbon dioxide for the process of photosynthesis and release oxygen into the environment. The estimation says that a single tree can soak up to one ton of carbon dioxide till the time it lives. No issues, if you don’t have much space, you can even keep small tubs of plants in your balcony, doorway or windows.

Secondly, use less of your personal vehicles and habituate yourself to use public transport and bicycles for short distances. Besides, do not waste energy at home or office. Switch off the device, when not in use. Then you can use fluorescent light bulbs in place of normal bulbs. You may find these bulbs expensive, but trust me they really help in bringing down our electricity bills and emit 70 percent less heat in comparison to normal bulbs.

You should also use water wisely; turn off the tap immediately after use. Don’t dump the garbage anywhere and dispose the waste in dustbin. Encourage others too in your family and at your work place to adopt these measures and save your environment from the impending doom.

This is all I have to say. Thank You!

Speech on Save Environment – 2

Respected CEO, Respected Managers, Dear Colleagues (Supervisors) and Dear Factory Staff!

As we have gathered here to celebrate the ‘World Environment day’, I’ve been given this opportunity to share the statistics in regards to environment conservation. But before that, I would share my views and facts about environment.

Our environment is a very crucial part of our lives. It is the main source of living as we get food, water, air from the environment. In fact, environment is what sustains us and where we breathe and live every moment. Thus, the quality of our life depends majorly on our environment.

In earlier days, people lived in harmony, adapting themselves to the environment; but in the modern era we are attempting to mould the environment according to our need and convenience thereby ultimately harming ourselves indirectly in the long run. Latest technological advancements in the field of science have made us more empowered, of which I think we are taking undue advantage, by utilizing the environment resources indiscriminately and giving it nothing in return, but harmful chemicals and pollution.

These results into environmental problems across the globe, creating issues such as deforestation, loss of biodiversity, air pollution, river pollution due to the inflow of poisonous chemicals, waste materials, garbage, plastics, etc., global warming and weakening of ozone layer, diminution of underground water, oil and gas reserves and natural resources such as minerals, growth of poisonous gases, pollution, smog, etc. in the air.

It is quite evident that because of our unchecked actions we have disturbed the ecological balance of our environment and hence are facing these issues. This is high time when we should take some strict actions in order to preserve our environment and make our place a better place to live in for our next generations.

Well, the first step would be to adapt our process of manufacturing and domestic product usage in harmony with the environment. More of regenerative, reusable and recyclable techniques must be used in manufacturing units, etc. Advanced countries are more liable contributors to the Global environmental problems; thus government of such countries and the UNO (United Nations Organization) must take precautionary measures at a global level. Also, long term plan and close monitoring of actions of the manufacturing units is required; youth must be educated to respect and live in harmony with environment rather than experimenting and exploiting it.

Each one of us must be mindful to protect the environment as global warming is a serious issue leading to advanced level of environmental pollution which is detrimental to health. Natural resources and forests must be preserved in order to control drought and flood. Pesticides must be used in a limited manner and the soil must be saved from contamination.

The waste of vegetables and fruits can be converted into fertilizers and shouldn’t be dumped into ponds, etc. By taking care of our small actions like saving drinking water, usage of jute, cloth, paper bags, recycling the waste products, etc. We can still save our environment from deteriorating completely.

I hope from now on, we all will implement these measures in our day-to-day lives and do every bit to protect our environment.

Speech on Save Environment – 3

Good morning respected principal, teachers and my dear friends.

Our topic for today’s assembly is ‘Save Environment’.

What is environment? I know we all will have different definition for this single word. In very simple words, I will address environment as the surroundings in which we humans or plants and animals live. Now, let’s just think that will we ever like to live in the surroundings that are bad or unhealthy? No, right..! We always want to live in the surroundings or the environment that is safe for us and others. An ideal environment is the one that does not lead to human diseases and extinction of natural resources, plants and animals.

Human beings play a vital role in the conservation of the environment. Good or bad environment depends on our activities. By our unscrupulous actions, we are contributing to the degeneration of the natural environment which in turn negatively affects human life on the planet Earth. All the human actions and activities in this modern world directly impact the whole ecosystem and environment. We should monitor our actions and ensure that we restrict our hazardous activities so that environment can be safeguarded.

It is our duty to protect the environment. But today our environment is under threat because of our deeds and decisions. We are responsible for pollution in the environment. Deforestation, mining, unjustified usage of machines and electricity, using several vehicles for traveling short distances etc., are responsible for pollution. Global warming, depletion of natural resources, untimely rains, cyclones, diseases and life amidst pollution and many more are the traits that show we are living in an imbalanced environment. Knowing this that we are ruining the surroundings for us as well as future generation, we should stop right away. We should control our activities that threaten our environment.

Saving environment is not a big task; it is not something that cannot be tackled. We just need to take a few steps like; save natural resources such as water, energy etc; dispose of our waste in the correct way and not litter around on roads and public places, etc; grow more trees, use public vehicles and avoid using personalized vehicles for each member, controlling industrial waste, etc. Isn’t it simple? Yes, it is. We only need to be cautious and have control on our actions and we will surely end up at least reducing the bad effects and doing our part in saving the environment.

To conclude my discussion, I will like to request you all to please do your bit and monitor the activities you perform and also educate others to safeguard their actions and protect environment. We should promote and contribute to the projects run by the government and various NGOs that focus on saving the environment. A lot of major environmental problems would disappear if we all curb the excessive use of petroleum, coal and natural gas. Let us grow more trees and create all possible ways to dispose off waste correctly. The focus should entirely shift on renewable and reusable sources of energy. These would help Save Environment from global warming.

Thank you! Keep spreading the message.

Speech on Save Environment – 4

Good morning everyone. I welcome you all to this discussion board.

Our topic for today’s discussion is ‘Save Environment’.

How important do you all think saving environment is? Saving our environment is exactly saving our lives. The environment is basically the atmosphere, and surrounding geographical area. Environment is the main source for human beings, plants and animals to live in and get food from, to eat, to play, to work, to enjoy, to walk, to breath, to hear, to drink or to overall exist. To run the life in a healthy happy way, we all need a healthy and natural environment.

We all have the responsibility to monitor the environment and day to day actions that are being done here. The ecology or environmental balance and natural cycles have become imbalanced which is very hard to bring back and give it a natural shape. Environmental can be protected at various levels: individual, organization controlled or governmental levels, to ensure sustainable development.

We all should understand that our environment consists of all the things like the living and the non-living things in it. It can be classified as Natural environment and Built environment. Natural environment is the one that has been naturally into existence since long and built environment is the one that has been made by man; the buildings, industries, etc.

Many of the human activities like cutting of trees, industrialization, technological improvements and so many are leading our environment towards danger and deterioration and is also keeping lives at risk by influencing the growth, development and survival of all organisms. Many types of environmental pollution such as water pollution, air pollution, noise pollution, soil pollution, etc are diminishing the ecosystem and causing a variety of health hazards, diseases to the human beings and animals. Continuous imbalanced temperature of the Earth because of the many man-made and natural means leads to the various natural calamities and hazards causing disturbance to a great extent to the harmonious existence of human and all other living beings.

We all should be focused on our activities and watch out that none of us adds on to the reduction of the environment’s quality. We should use the energy, electricity and natural resources wisely; restrict the usage of vehicles on short distances and emphasize on using public transport instead of personalized for each member. These are just a few actions that we human beings should take to safeguard our environment.

To conclude my discussion on saving environment, I know that you all are well aware about the key aspects to be kept in mind as the cautious human who safeguards the environment. Every action of ours has a result and consequence, result might be the one that we desire for but mostly the consequences are the ones that can be classified as good and bad for our environment. We owe a responsibility to protect the environment by following those minor activities.

Thank you all for being a part and creating the spark in yourselves for protecting our mother earth, our environment.

10 things you can do to help save our planet

The scale of the challenges facing our planet can seem daunting, but we can all do something. Here are 10 simple ways you can help reduce your impact, and help in the fight against climate change.

Forest burning

We are the first generation to know we’re destroying the world, and we could be the last that can do anything about it. Speaking up is one of the most powerful things you can do especially if it’s to the right people.

We’ve been promised a better world – but our leaders are not on track to deliver. We need decisive action now. We’ll use your support to hold the UK Government to account on its promises. Your voice is powerful. Together, we can show we need urgent action on climate and nature.

It’s not just about speaking to the people in charge. Talk to your friends, neighbours and colleagues and get them to make positive changes too. Speak up, speak to everyone, and make your voice heard.

speech on save our planet

One of the best things you can do is to keep yourself informed – the more you know the better. It leaves you better equipped to have those conversations with your friends and family and the people you want to influence. Get yourself clued up on the facts, stay up to date with recent news on the state of our natural world and work out what you can do.

We have the world at our fingertips, so learn from influential people, keep up with the news and research organisations that are working to make our planet a better place.

Everyone in the UK over the age of 18 can vote for their MP. This is an opportunity to vote for someone who is representative of you and your views and will make the environment a top priority.

Being politically engaged is not limited to voting and it certainly isn’t limited by how young you are. Every year more and more young people are working together to show our political leaders that they want change.

We need to ensure we hold our politicians accountable. You can do that by contacting your local MP or attending constituency meetings where you will have an opportunity to make your voice heard. Find out who your MP is and how you can contact them .

speech on save our planet

One of the most efficient ways of lowering your environmental impact is by travelling responsibly. This means, whenever you can, choosing a more sustainable way to get from A to B - walk or cycle when you can.

Transport is one of the most polluting sectors in the UK. But holidaying closer to home can make a big impact on your carbon footprint. One short haul return flight can account for 10% of your yearly carbon emissions, and long-haul flights can completely determine your carbon impact.

If you have the time you can usually get trains to European destinations to cut your carbon footprint. Get creative and try to find alternate ways to travel.

If you do choose to go abroad and are looking to see the local wildlife, keep in mind how to go about it ethically. Attractions that involve you being able to pet, hold or feed animals for money are generally a no-go. Be wary of attractions involving any unnatural interactions with animals. As a rule: observe animals from afar in their natural habitat and look to support local conservation projects.

Food production is a major driver of wildlife extinction. What we eat contributes around a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions and is responsible for almost 60% of global biodiversity loss.

Farming animals for meat and dairy requires space and huge inputs of water and feed. Today, one of the biggest causes of forest loss is the expansion of agricultural land for animal feed production, such as soy. And producing meat creates vastly more carbon dioxide than plants such as vegetables, grains and legumes.

Moving away from a meat-dominated diet towards a more plant-based diet can lower your impact on the environment. Vegetarian and vegan foods are massively on the rise and becoming far more common in restaurants, cafes and supermarkets, so you’ll rarely struggle.

Not only that, but cutting down on meat and dairy products can reduce your weekly food bills.

We need to make wasting our resources unacceptable in all aspects of our life.  Every product we buy has an environmental footprint and could end up in landfill. The impact of plastic pollution on our oceans is becoming increasingly clear, having drastic impacts on marine life.

Recycling what we can reduces the amount of new materials we are making, and upcycling is a creative way to make old items into something more valuable. This could be reusing a jam jar as a candle holder, or using old tins as plant pots – the possibilities are endless!

It’s not just the products we buy. It’s estimated that a third of all food produced in the world is lost or wasted. Do your bit by eating up leftovers and use any ingredients you have spare to make interesting meals. Try to waste as little food as possible, and compost the organic waste you can’t eat.

We can all do more to be more conscious about what we buy, and where we buy it from. Buying less will save you money, reduce waste and improve your environmental footprint. Living a less consumerist lifestyle can benefit you and our planet.

Use your purchasing power and make sure your money is going towards positive change. By supporting eco-friendly products which are less damaging to the environment, you’re encouraging companies to source and produce their products in a sustainable way.

Our amazing supporters are helping us to restore nature and tackle the main causes of nature’s decline, particularly the food system and climate change. We rely on generous donations to carry out our projects all around the world.

There are lots of ways to give. Become a member of WWF, adopt an animal, take on a challenge for Team Panda or encourage your family and friends to donate by setting up a Facebook birthday fundraiser.

Baby Gorilla

WWF’s most comprehensive study to date, the Living Planet Report 2022, shows global wildlife populations have plummeted by 69% on average since 1970. This means that nature loss is not being halted, let along reversed.

The solutions exist, but time is running out to act. We're now in a race to bring our world back to life - and we know it's a race we can win.

speech on save our planet

Volunteering can be daunting, and expensive if you don’t know where to look. But it doesn’t need to be this hard to do good.

Often local nature reserves or parks are looking for regular volunteers, which can give you practical conservation experience as well as helping to restore nature your local area.

We want everyone to have the opportunity to help and kickstart a career in conservation. We have a network of youth internship schemes across the world where you can work on a placement with a WWF team or with one of our projects in the field. It’s an exciting opportunity to be able to work in the front line of nature conservation.

Essay on Save Earth

Each living being on Earth knows the importance of Earth in our lives. Without Earth, we cannot even imagine living. Have you ever thought how we would walk if there is no Earth, there will be no water to drink, there will not be animals living here, and of course, no cultivation, so no food to eat. This means to say that the life of humans, as well as other living beings, cannot be imagined without Earth.

Life is possible on the planet Earth and its related resources. Can you imagine a life on the Earth if resources are not available here. And, the answer comes not at all. The resources like air, sunlight, water, creatures, minerals, and vegetation are integral parts of the Earth. But with the increasing level of pollution, these resources are getting affected and either humans are destroying or depleting recklessly. If we have not taken a calculative step to save the Earth, it is going to be difficult to establish a sustainable future on the earth. Let’s understand why is it so crucial to save the Earth from these things:

WhyiIs Saving The Earth Necessary?

In order to save the earth, we must understand that resources that are provided by earth are limited. However, the majority of us are unaware of this fact and we are not judiciously utilizing the resources. In order to safeguard the existence of humans, we need to protect the earth and take care of it. All living beings are dependent on the earth for their survival and so we should use the gist of nature in a thoughtful way. The increase in pollution and damage caused by humans are affecting the earth so rapidly that it is threatening our survival.

Saving earth is not merely the need of the hour but much more. The extent of degradation caused by humans is becoming irreparable. This is one of the reasons why all the resources are getting highly polluted. The change in climate is also one of the examples that are caused due to severe pollution. Moreover, animals, birds are getting extinct and the worlds around us are slowly approaching the end. Nothing could be scarier than this. Therefore, saving the earth is the primary need and we should make conscious decisions to make the earth a better and sustainable place to live in.

It is and has been our responsibility to protect the planet that we live in but rather we become selfish and do such things that create more pollution in our environment. As the most evolved species of the environment, we should understand that our planet is the only planet that supports life. So when the earth will be in peril, we will not have the option to move to another planet for our safety.

Hence, it is important to make the most use of what we have right now in a sustainable manner. Our approach will not only save the earth but our lives as well. Moreover, our future generation will be bestowed with a healthy environment to live in.

Ten Simple Things to Save the Earth

Live by the mantra- Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

Keep our surroundings clean

Plant more trees

Conserve water and water bodies

Educate people about the significance of conserving nature

Shop wisely

Cycle more and drive fewer cars on the road

Use LED lights

Don’t discharge industrial effluents in the river or other water bodies

Choose sustainability in every step of life

Therefore, by making small changes in our lifestyle we can make a huge difference. By restoring ecological balance, we can save the earth from getting dreadfully polluted and uninhabitable.

World Environment Day: A rallying call to restore our ecosystems

Remarks prepare for delivery at the press conference to announce Pakistan as host of the 2021 World Environment Day

I thank the Honorable Minister for inviting me to this press briefing. First of all, on behalf of the United Nations Environment Programme, I would like to thank Pakistan for offering to host the 2021 World Environment Day, which will be held on 5 June, on the theme of ecosystem restoration.

Pakistan is integral to global efforts to combat the three interconnected environmental crises the world faces today, namely, climate change, nature and biodiversity loss, and pollution and waste levels. In Pakistan these crises are manifested in air and water pollution, pestilent and erosive land-use practices, desertification and extreme weather events. According to a recent study, Pakistan is ranked 5th in vulnerability to climate change.

The global restoration of ecosystems to their former glory is key to addressing those crises and to keep check of our consumption and production patterns. Restoration of eco-systems is also our single largest nature-based opportunity for climate change mitigation.

On this year’s World Environment Day, we are also formally launching the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. Together with Pakistan, and through the World Environment Day platform, we shall be making a global call for the protection and revival of ecosystems around the world, in recognition of the mutual benefit for nature and people.

WED in Pakistan

The science is clear: the next ten years are paramount in the fight to avert climate change and the loss of nature and biodiversity. As we commence the United Nations Decade of Ecosystem Restoration in 2021, it is vital that we all grasp and acknowledge that restoration is a global mission; it is an enormous task that is too big for any one organization or country to undertake. Here, I would also like to thank all the member states that have shown interest to financially contribute towards implementation of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, in particular financial support that UNEP has received from Finland and Germany for its launch.

This World Environment Day 2021, with Pakistan as its official host, we must couple the rallying call for the protection and revival of ecosystems with actions. With much of nature being on life-support, we need to find inspiration wherever it resuscitates. Such encouragement can be drawn from Pakistan’s Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Programme to restore its forests and wildlife and from citizen initiatives across the country working to green both the rural and the urban landscapes. Such initiatives reflect the ambition and action needed by nations, businesses, international organizations and individuals to enhance people’s livelihoods, counteract climate change, and start to rebuild our collapsing ecosystems.

I commend Pakistan for its leadership and very much look forward to the 2021 World Environment Day and the official launch of the Decade of Ecosystem Restoration on June 5.

A Long Term Strategy for People and the Planet

The Earth is at a tipping point. Here are 3 actions global leaders must take now.

Last updated January 10, 2024

Our planet faces the interconnected crises of rapid climate change and biodiversity loss. We have years, not decades, to address these existential threats.

Global Insights Newsletter

We explore the top sustainability issues and their solutions—in a 5-minute read or less.

In 2023, a new word was born to describe interacting current and future risks with potentially catastrophic consequences: polycrisis.

Another word is about to enter our collective dictionaries: permacrisis. Will this be our fate, or will 2024 be a time for resolution, resilience and recovery? This is a pivotal moment for global leaders attending the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, where they will develop a long-term strategy to prepare for and respond to these risks.

What we do between now and 2030 will determine whether we slow warming to 1.5° Celsius while also conserving enough land and water to fix biodiversity loss. The good news is there is much that global leaders can do now to keep the polycrisis from becoming a permacrisis.

Two people walk on a trail in the direction of steep mountains with a forest at the base.

3 Things We Must Do To Save The Planet

Solutions to climate change and biodiversity loss won't come from any one sector: they'll come from governments, finance, business and civil society. We can achieve a nature-positive world by 2050 while providing affordable, secure and inclusive access to energy, food and water.

Here are three ways we need to up-end “business as usual” and act boldly to advance conservation.

1. Produce more food on less land.

Today’s version of large-scale agriculture is the biggest source of land conversion, drives deforestation that worsens climate change, uses 70% of the world’s freshwater supply and relies on fertilizer practices that pollute our waters. As the need to feed a billion more people increases, agricultural expansion could devastate habitats, release even more carbon into the atmosphere, and dry up rivers.

Transitioning to Regenerative Food Systems

Our global food system can help us achieve our climate and biodiversity goals.

How to fix it:

Produce food where it’s most likely to thrive, which will use less water and less land.

How we’re taking action right now:

We’re analyzing satellite images and local yield potential to pinpoint where soy farming and cattle ranching can expand without destroying nature. This approach is especially vital in Brazil’s Cerrado region, where half of all natural habitat has already been converted to cropland and pasture. Cooperating with farmers on sustainable practices can help save what’s left of the Cerrado’s rich savanna.

2. Increase clean energy.

Climate change is the single most serious threat facing our planet today. We must reduce carbon emissions to, or below, levels agreed to in the Paris Climate Agreement to prevent catastrophic harm. And with global energy demand expected to increase 56% over the next couple decades, it will be impossible to meet those emissions targets if we stick primarily with traditional fossil fuels.

Benefits of Solar Energy on Former Mine Sites

An affordable path to repurposing former mines into clean energy hubs.

Shift 85% of the world’s energy supply to non-fossil fuel sources and invest in strategies like reforestation that capture carbon dioxide.

We’re championing regulations that allow former mining lands to be repurposed for solar and wind energy. Tens of thousands of acres of degraded mine sites in Nevada’s Great Basin are now available for renewable energy development. By targeting already-disturbed land, new turbines and solar panels won’t need to destroy more natural habitat.

There is much that global leaders can do right now to build a better future for people and the planet. Our newsletter explores potential solutions to our top challenges, all in a five-minute read or less.

Aerial view of a winding river lined with green bushes and surrounded by rocky areas.

3. Get $700 billion to finance nature.

Our economies depend on healthy, supportive natural systems. In fact, around half of the gross world product is dependent on nature. Globally, we're already spending up to $143 billion USD each year on activities that benefit nature, but we need more. A lot more. We need to spend at least $722 billion (and as much as $967 billion) USD every year, putting the nature finance gap at $579-824 billion USD.

A Finance Plan for the Planet

Here's how we get $700 billion each year to reverse the biodiversity crisis.

We need to close the funding gap—and spend at least $700 billion USD on nature every year—to reverse the decline in biodiversity by 2030. Fortunately, this number is only 1% of annual gross global product, or about what the world spends on soft drinks.

Through our Nature Bonds program, we’re taking a holistic approach to leverage debt refinancing for effective, durable conservation and climate action. We work with governments to help them refinance debt and generate new funding to invest in conservation, and in climate mitigation and adaptation measures. Like in Barbados, where we worked with the government, partners from the financial and conservation sectors, and local communities to develop a set of commitments for durable conservation that is tailored to meet the country’s specific needs.

We truly do have the power to build a future in which nature and people can thrive together.

A more sustainable path is possible. But we need to rally individuals, governments, companies and communities around the world to take action with us over the next decade. When we’re at the table with leaders around the world, it gives us great strength to show how many people are with us.

Solutions with Impact

Regenerative Food Systems

Together we can turn one of today’s biggest challenges into our greatest opportunity—a food system that goes beyond sustainable and creates positive growth for communities, economies and the planet.

Why is Saving Earth so Important?

Our planet Earth is the only planet that provides us with raw materials, oxygen, food which we need for fuel, and other essential materials.

There are a number of reasons why saving the Earth is so important:

  • Our Earth is the only planet that supports life. Despite signs of organic molecules and water on other planets and moons, life is only known to exist on Earth. There would be nowhere else for us to go if not Earth.
  • Our Earth provides us with basic necessities such as medicine, food, clean water, and air to breathe.
  • The combustion of fossil fuels releases harmful greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, which traps heat and warms the earth. Rising sea levels, melting glaciers, and more extreme weather events are just a few of the negative effects of climate change that are already being felt.

Essay on Save Earth in 100 Words

The only planet in the cosmos that is known to sustain life is Earth. Since it is our home, we must take care of it.

There are numerous reasons why protecting the planet is crucial. To begin with, it is our only place of residence. There won’t be somewhere else for us to go if we destroy Earth. Second, Earth gives us food, water, air, and shelter—everything we require to survive. Third, a wide variety of biodiversity exists on Earth, which is vital to human health.

Unfortunately, the health of Earth is being threatened by human activity. Among the difficulties we confront are deforestation, pollution, and climate change.

To save the Earth, we can all do our part. Here are some actions you may take:

  • Cut back on the use of fossil fuels. Make more of an effort to walk or bike, drive less, and take public transit wherever you can.
  • Make the switch to alternative energy sources like wind and solar energy.
  • At home, use less energy and water.

Essay on Save Earth in 150 Words

Since the Earth is our home, it is up to us to preserve it. However, the health of the planet is in danger due to human activity. Among the difficulties we confront are deforestation, pollution, and climate change.

The most important environmental issue of our day is climate change. Greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere, which causes the earth to warm. Among the detrimental repercussions of climate change that are already being felt are rising sea levels, melting glaciers, and an increase in extreme weather occurrences.

Pollution poses a serious threat to Earth as well. Among the materials we use to damage the air, water, and land are chemicals, plastics, and trash. Not only can pollution harm humans and wildlife, but it can also ruin ecosystems.

Deforestation is another issue. In this, the trees are removed and instead, buildings are constructed.  Forests filter water in addition to providing habitat for species and regulating the climate. Deforestation is one of the primary causes of both climate change and biodiversity loss.

We must take action to safeguard Earth from these threats. We can potentially reduce our carbon footprint by switching to renewable energy sources and consuming less energy. We can also reduce pollution by using less plastic, recycling, and composting. We can also safeguard forests by planting trees and promoting sustainable forestry practices.

Preserving the planet is essential for our own existence as well as that of future generations. To keep our world safe, each of us has a responsibility.

Essay on Save Earth in 200 Words

The only planet in the solar system where humanity can survive is Earth. Since our planet gives us access to fundamental essentials like clean water, fresh air, and food to eat, it is our duty as humans to make sure that it is habitable for future generations.

We can see that, among all the urgent problems, one of the most significant ones that affect humanity is climate change. Among the detrimental repercussions of climate change that are already being felt are rising sea levels, melting glaciers, and an increase in extreme weather occurrences.

Pollution is another major problem. The majority of the materials that are key to pollution of the air, water, and land are harmful chemicals, plastics that are carelessly thrown away, and other materials. This is not only harmful to humans and wildlife but also to the environment.

Deforestation is the third main issue; it is the removal of trees for construction or other purposes, like agriculture. One of the main contributors to both climate change and biodiversity loss is deforestation. Consequently, we need to act to defend Earth from these dangers.

We hope this essay on Save Earth helped you with some knowledge of some of the pressing issues we face on a daily basis and what we can do to save our planet.

Speech on Save the Planet Earth (818 Words)

March 4, 2018 by Study Mentor Leave a Comment

Good morning people. Today I wish to put forward a speech in front of you on the topic ‘save the planet ‘, and I wish your full co-operation throughout the time that I will be presenting.

Also, kindly pardon me for any mistake that I commit in this course.

The planet in which we live in is the planet earth. It has been turned into a habitable planet due to the various changes that it has come across during the course of its creation.

All these factors have together contributed to make this place a survivable place.

Our planet earth is unique. It is unique because it supports life. It has the capacity to create life. It is not harsh like other planets which are filled with harmful gases and rocks. Although earlier it was something very similar.

We the humans are gifted with life from this planet. We are a part of it. It has created us. Hence, we owe our lives to this planet.

The moment we took birth on this planet we have become an integral part of this planet. Hence, it is our duty to save this planet from all the dangers that it faces.

Save Me

We are creating such poisons which are slowly putting the future of this planet at risk. Seems impossible?

Well I will be putting forward some of my views which will make it clear how we are endangering our lives and also of others residing on this planet by our activities.

The first word that comes to my mind when talking about threats to this planet is ‘pollution’.

Pollution has affected this planet widely. Be it water pollution or air pollution, day by day it is increasing in exponential numbers.

Air pollution – the vast number of factories and vehicles are slowly mixing harmful gases and carbon dioxide in the pure air that we breathe in.

The carbon dioxide levels have increased to a horrific level and this gives rise to global warming.

Water pollution – all the wastes of the cities and factories are channelized and dumped into seas and rivers by sewers lines.

This damages the purity of water and makes it toxic. To make matters worse there are oil spills from vessels and mines. Oil spill cannot be reversed.

The oil keeps floating on top of water. This damages the valuable marine life. The fishes find it difficult to breathe. The oil sticks to the feathers of the birds thus making them unable to fly.

Soil pollution – soil pollution is when the soil gets contaminated by harmful pollutants and chemicals. The most known element to create soil pollution is plastic.

Plastics mixed with soil are sometimes eaten up by grazing animals thus causing them to choke, where they ultimately die.

Soil erosion is another major devil to the problem of soil pollution. The loss of rich top layer of soil is known as soil erosion.

Noise pollution – it is another form of pollution that effects ‘us’. Yes, sound pollution is caused by us and it effects us only in return.

Noise pollution is caused by the excessive use of horns in vehicles, use of high decibels of fire crackers, use to unnecessary blaring sound of loudspeakers and much more.

This problem is more serious in the metropolitan cities where the pressure on land is high.

These are few of the headings that I took to explain how the planet’s life is at risk and how we are degrading its quality day by day.

There are still bigger names to deal with like -‘ozone layer depletion’, ‘ global warming ‘, ‘ depletion of natural resources ‘, ‘ nuclear energy ‘.

Threats are many but how to counteract them? How should we save this planet from devastation?

Not only we should criticize, since we are a part of this planet, we have to learn how to work towards making this planet a better place. Our ultimate goal should be to save this planet.

There are numerous ways to go about solving this issue. I will be suggesting some. Rest of them I would like to get suggestion from your end.

Since I strongly believe that the audience should actively participate with the person making the speech.

  • Firstly, I would recommend the use of bicycles or walking to places that are easily within reach. It will keep you fit as well as produce less pollution.
  • The sewer lines should be fitted with filters that will check the quality of waste before dumping it into rivers
  • Use of lights and fans only when needed.
  • Not using harmful fertilizers and pesticides during cultivation
  • Not depending too much on underground water sources

These are few methods which I have listed, which will help to save the planet.
