പുസ്‌തക വായന കൊണ്ട് എന്തു നേട്ടമാണ് ഉള്ളത്? വെറുതെ സന്തോഷം കിട്ടാനാണോ വായിക്കുന്നത്? ആസ്വാദനത്തിനും അപ്പുറം പുസ്തകവായന എന്താണ് നൽകുന്നത്? 

പുസ്‌തക വായന ശാരീരികവും മാനസികവുമായ ആരോഗ്യം നൽകും. ഈ ഗുണങ്ങൾ ജീവിതകാലമത്രയും നിലനിൽക്കും കുട്ടിക്കാലം മുതൽ വാർധക്യം വരെ വായനയുടെ ഗുണഫലങ്ങൾ നീളുന്നു. നമ്മുടെ തലച്ചോറിനെയും ശരീരത്തെയും പുസ്തകവായന എങ്ങനെ മാറ്റുന്നു എന്നറിയാം. 

വായന സമ്മർദമകറ്റും  

അര മണിക്കൂർ വായന സമ്മർദ്ദം കുറയ്ക്കുമെന്നും ഹൃദയമിടിപ്പിന്റെ നിരക്ക് കുറയ്ക്കുമെന്നും മനസികസമ്മർദത്തിന്റെ നിരക്ക് കുറയ്ക്കുമെന്നും മാനസിക സമ്മർദത്തെ അകറ്റുമെന്നും 2009 ൽ നടത്തിയ ഒരു പഠനത്തിൽ തെളിഞ്ഞു. 

സഹാനുഭൂതി വളർത്തും  

സാഹിത്യ വായന ശീലമാക്കിയവരിൽ മറ്റുള്ളവരുടെ വികാരങ്ങളെയും വിശ്വാസങ്ങളെയും മനസിലാക്കാനുള്ള കഴിവ് ഉണ്ട്. സഹിഷ്‌ണുതയും സഹാനുഭൂതിയും വളർത്താൻ വായന സഹായിക്കും. 

തലച്ചോറിനെ ശക്തിപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു

വായന നമ്മുടെ മനസിനെ തന്നെ മാറ്റിമറിയ്ക്കുന്നു. തലച്ചോറിലെ സങ്കീർണമായ സർക്യൂട്ടുകളും സിഗ്നലുകളും എല്ലാം വായനയിൽ ഇൻവോൾവ്ഡ് ചെയ്യുന്നുണ്ട്. വായിക്കാനുള്ള കഴിവ് വർധിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഈ ശൃഖലകളും കൂടുതൽ ശക്തമാകുന്നു. 

വർധിച്ച പദസഞ്ചയം  

വളരെ ചെറുപ്പം മുതലേ പതിവായി പുസ്‌തകങ്ങൾ വായിക്കുന്ന വിദ്യാർഥികളിൽ ക്രമേണ പദസഞ്ചയം (vocabulary) വർധിക്കുന്നതായി തെളിഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഫലപ്രദമായി ആശയവിനിമയം നടത്താൻ വായന സഹായിക്കും. പുതിയ വാക്കുകൾ പരിചയപ്പെടാൻ മികച്ച മാർഗം വായനയാണ്. 

മറവിരോഗം അകറ്റാം  

പ്രായം കൂടുന്തോറും നമ്മുടെ മനസിനെ എൻഗേജ്‌ഡ്‌ ആക്കി വയ്ക്കാനുള്ള മികച്ച മാർഗമാണ് പുസ്‌തകങ്ങളും മാസികകളും വായിക്കുക എന്ന്  നാഷണൽ ഇൻസ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് ഏജിങ്ങ് പ്രസ്‌താവിക്കുന്നു.

ദിവസവും ഗണിത പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ നിർധാരണം ചെയ്യുന്ന മുതിർന്ന ആൾക്കാരിൽ ബൗദ്ധിക പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ മെച്ചപ്പെട്ടതായി കണ്ടു. 

എത്ര നേരത്തെ വായന തുടങ്ങാമോ അത്രയും നല്ലത് ജീവിതകാലം മുഴുവൻ മനസിനെ ഉത്തേജിപ്പിക്കുന്ന വായന പോലുള്ള പ്രവൃത്തികൾ ചെയ്‌തവരിൽ  ഡിമൻഷ്യയുടെ ലക്ഷണങ്ങളായ തലച്ചോറിലെ പ്ളേക്കുകളോ ക്ഷതങ്ങളോ കെട്ടുപിണഞ്ഞ പ്രോട്ടീനുകളോ ഉണ്ടാകാനുള്ള സാധ്യത കുറവാണെന്ന് റഷ് സർവകലാശാല 2013 ൽ നടത്തിയ പഠനത്തിൽ കണ്ടു. വായന മറവി രോഗത്തെ അകറ്റി നിർത്തും. 

നല്ല ഉറക്കത്തിന് തയാറെടുപ്പിക്കുന്നു  

പതിവായി ഉറക്കം സുഖമാകാനും വായന സഹായിക്കും. വായന ദിനചര്യയുടെ ഭാഗമാക്കാൻ മയോക്ലിനിക്കിലെ ഡോക്ടർമാർ നിർദേശിക്കുന്നതും അതുകൊണ്ടാണ്.

അച്ചടിച്ച പുസ്‌തകങ്ങൾ  തന്നെ വായിക്കാൻ തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കണം. കാരണം ഫോണിൽ നിന്നുള്ള വെളിച്ചം ഉറക്കം വരാതിരിക്കാനും മറ്റ് നിരവധി ആരോഗ്യപ്രശ്നങ്ങൾക്കും കാരണമാകും. ഉറക്കപ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ ഉള്ളവർ കിടപ്പുമുറിയിൽ ഇരുന്നു വായിക്കരുതെന്നും ഡോക്ടർമാർ നിർദേശിക്കുന്നു. 

വിഷാദം അകറ്റുന്നു

വിഷാദം ബാധിച്ചവർക്ക് തങ്ങൾ ഒറ്റപ്പെട്ടതായി തോന്നുകയും അവർ മറ്റുള്ളവരിൽ നിന്ന് അകന്നു നിൽക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും. ഈ ഒരു ചിന്ത കുറയ്ക്കാൻ പുസ്‌തക വായന സഹായിക്കും. 

കഥകൾ വായിക്കുന്നത് താൽക്കാലികമായി നമ്മുടെ സ്വന്തം ലോകത്തു നിന്ന്  സങ്കല്പികമായ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളുടെ അനുഭവങ്ങളിലേക്ക് രക്ഷപെടാൻ സഹായിക്കും. സെൽഫ് ഹെൽപ്പ് വിഭാഗത്തിൽപ്പെട്ട പുസ്‌തകങ്ങൾ  ആണെങ്കിൽ അവ വിഷാദമുൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള രോഗ ലക്ഷണങ്ങളെ എങ്ങനെ മാറ്റാം  എന്നതിനുള്ള വഴികൾ പഠിപ്പിച്ചു തരും.

പുസ്‌തകം വായിക്കാത്തവരെ അപേക്ഷിച്ച് ഓരോ ആഴ്ചയും മൂന്നര മണിക്കൂറിലധികം വായിക്കുന്നവർ ദീർഘായുസോടെ ഇരിക്കാൻ 23 ശതമാനം സാധ്യത കൂടുതൽ ആണെന്നു കണ്ടു. 

എന്താണ് വായിക്കേണ്ടത് ?

ഡിജിറ്റൽ വായന ശീലമാക്കിയവരെക്കാൾ  കോംപ്രിഹെൻഷൻ ടെസ്റ്റുകളിൽ കൂടുതൽ സ്‌കോർ ചെയ്‌തത്‌  അച്ചടിച്ച പുസ്‌തകങ്ങൾ  വായിച്ചവരാണെന്ന് പഠനങ്ങളിൽ പറയുന്നു. ഒരേ ഒരു കാര്യം ഡിജിറ്റൽ രീതിയൽ വായിച്ചവരെക്കാൾ വായിച്ച കാര്യം ഓർത്തിരിക്കുന്നത് അച്ചടിച്ച പുസ്‌തകങ്ങൾ വായിച്ചവരാണ് എന്നും കണ്ടു. 

വായന നൽകുന്ന ഗുണങ്ങൾ അനവധിയാണ്. അതുകൊണ്ടു തന്നെ പറ്റാവുന്നത്ര വായിക്കുന്നത് എന്തു കൊണ്ടും ഗുണകരമാണ്; പ്രത്യേകിച്ചും കുട്ടികൾക്ക് പുസ്തകത്താളുകളിൽ നിരവധി ശാരീരികവും മാനസികവുമായ ഗുണഫലങ്ങൾ ആണ് കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നത്.

പരിസ്ഥിതി സംരക്ഷണ നടപടികൾ

ഭൂമിയിൽ ആരോഗ്യകരമായ ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ നിലനിൽപ്പിന് നമ്മുടെ പരിസ്ഥിതി ഒരു പ്രധാന പങ്ക് വഹിക്കുന്നു. എന്നിട്ടും മനുഷ്യനിർമിത സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യയും ആധുനിക യുഗത്തിന്റെ നവീകരണവും കാരണം നമ്മുടെ പരിസ്ഥിതി അനുദിനം നശിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ട് പരിസ്ഥിതി മലിനീകരണം പോലെയുള്ള ഏറ്റവും വലിയ പ്രശ്നം ഇന്ന് നാം അഭിമുഖീകരിക്കുകയാണ്.

പരിസ്ഥിതി മലിനീകരണം നമ്മുടെ ദൈനംദിന ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ വിവിധ വശങ്ങളെ സാമൂഹികമായും ശാരീരികമായും സാമ്പത്തികമായും വൈകാരികമായും ബൗദ്ധികമായും ബാധിക്കുന്നു. പാരിസ്ഥിതിക മലിനീകരണം പരിസ്ഥിതിയിൽ വിവിധ തരത്തിലുള്ള രോഗങ്ങൾക്ക് കാരണമാകുന്നു, അത് ഒരു വ്യക്തി ജീവിതത്തിലുടനീളം അനുഭവിക്കുന്നു. ഇത് ഏതെങ്കിലും സമൂഹത്തിന്റെയോ നഗരത്തിന്റെയോ പ്രശ്‌നമല്ല, മറിച്ച് ലോകമെമ്പാടുമുള്ള പ്രശ്‌നമാണ്, ഈ പ്രശ്‌നത്തിന്റെ പരിഹാരം ഒരു വ്യക്തിയുടെ പരിശ്രമത്താൽ പരിഹരിക്കപ്പെടില്ല. പൂർണമായി പരിഹരിച്ചില്ലെങ്കിൽ ഒരു ദിവസം ജീവൻ നിലനിൽക്കില്ല. സർക്കാർ സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുന്ന പരിസ്ഥിതി പ്രസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ ഓരോ സാധാരണ പൗരനും പങ്കാളിയാകണം.

നമ്മൾ ഓരോരുത്തരും നമ്മുടെ തെറ്റ് തിരുത്തുകയും സ്വാർത്ഥത വെടിഞ്ഞ് പരിസ്ഥിതിയെ മലിനീകരണത്തിൽ നിന്ന് സുരക്ഷിതവും ആരോഗ്യകരവുമാക്കുകയും വേണം. വിശ്വസിക്കാൻ പ്രയാസമാണ്, എന്നാൽ ഓരോ വ്യക്തിയും സ്വീകരിക്കുന്ന ചെറിയ പോസിറ്റീവ് നടപടികൾ വലിയ മാറ്റമുണ്ടാക്കുകയും പരിസ്ഥിതി നാശം തടയുകയും ചെയ്യും എന്നത് സത്യമാണ്. വായു, ജല മലിനീകരണം നമ്മുടെ ജീവിതത്തെ അപകടപ്പെടുത്തുന്ന വിവിധ തരത്തിലുള്ള രോഗങ്ങൾക്കും വൈകല്യങ്ങൾക്കും കാരണമാകുന്നു.

ഈ കാരണങ്ങളാൽ, നഗരവൽക്കരണം, വ്യവസായവൽക്കരണം, പ്രകൃതിയോടുള്ള നമ്മുടെ പെരുമാറ്റം എന്നിവ കാരണം പരിസ്ഥിതി മലിനീകരണം ലോകത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന പ്രശ്നമാണ്, അതിന്റെ പരിഹാരം ഓരോരുത്തരുടെയും നിരന്തര പരിശ്രമത്തിലൂടെ മാത്രമേ സാധ്യമാകൂ. ലോക പരിസ്ഥിതി ദിനത്തിന്റെ പ്രചാരണത്തിൽ നാം സജീവമായി പങ്കെടുക്കണം.

പരിസ്ഥിതി മലിനീകരണം നമ്മുടെ ജീവിതത്തിൽ ചെലുത്തുന്ന സ്വാധീനം

പരിസ്ഥിതിയുടെ അഭാവത്തിൽ ജീവിതം സങ്കൽപ്പിക്കാൻ പോലും കഴിയില്ല, ഭാവിയിൽ ജീവൻ രക്ഷിക്കാൻ പരിസ്ഥിതിയുടെ സംരക്ഷണം ഉറപ്പാക്കേണ്ടതുണ്ട്. ഭൂമിയിൽ ജീവിക്കുന്ന ഓരോ വ്യക്തിയുടെയും ഉത്തരവാദിത്തമാണത്. എല്ലാവരും മുന്നിട്ടിറങ്ങി പരിസ്ഥിതി സംരക്ഷണ കാമ്പയിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി.

Women’s questions can be defined as discourses within larger movements that focus on improving the women’s condition and status in society articulated not in partnership with or by women in question but by others who speak for them. The woman’s question was of particular importance in colonial Kerala attempting to ‘modernise’ itself. And many of the debates and discussions contained in women’s magazines in Malayalam in the first half of the twentieth century reflect the centrality of ‘woman’ in the contemporary discourses of reform and nationalism.
