Introduction, my school.

My school one amongst the best schools in the city. I feel proud to be a part of Delhi Public School, Varanasi. I feel honoured when I walk through the lanes wearing my school uniform, it’s indeed a euphoric moment for me.

I am studying here from four years now, it feels great to know which class has the finer fans and the wardrobes. A few of the classrooms even have wonderful, huge maps. Even my class had a map last year, I and my friends would often stand nearby it and find India on the map. The World is such a huge place, we would think. We would also think about how many schools would be there in the entire world. Millions, I would say. Our school was one of them. And I was one of the many students there.

Things about my school..

My school has a large playground where we all play in the recess hours. Three stages, one for the primary sections, the other one for junior sections and the last one for super seniors. We rarely could see them, we think they’re always studying or fighting.

The swings in our school are painted in red and yellow, the vibrant colours look great to the eyes. Our school is painted in yellow and it’s windows in blue. It has a huge building, spacious classroom with its walls filled with our doodlings and poems.

My Teachers

My Teachers are the epitome of knowledge and patience. They bear with us, teach us textual as well as real-life things. It’s enlightening to talk to them, listen to them. They tell us things about their own lives, their struggles while reaching where they are. They can easily solve problems that we struggle with. They help us grow and learn better.

It’s said that the real knowledge and wisdom could be inculcated in a student through a teacher only, and that’s true. Our teachers are very friendly and accepting. They love us with our flaws and imperfections. They make our classes enthralling with facts and wise with their sayings.

I don’t have many friends, though I have forty students in my section. But I have two best friends, we roam together. Eat our lunches sitting on the same bench, and when either of us wants to go to the canteen, we all go together like best friends. Our canteen’s food is tasty, the canteen provides us with delicacies, my favourite food there is idli dosa.

The other people in the class are also friendly, my school provides me with an ambience where I feel confident and get a sense of identity.

The best school isn’t only the one with the largest infrastructure and fancy computer labs and flamboyantly huge playgrounds, rather by what it inculcates in you. What it makes of you. The best school is the one that helps you come up with your best in your life. If it can bring out the best in you, it’s the best school, indeed.

School Life is the best time of our life as we make new friends, learn new things and build our career there. School time is the only time which we enjoy most, and when we enter college, we always miss our school life. School life teaches us lots of new things and prepares us to face all the challenges of life. I love my school life and really enjoy it. I have lots of friends, and all my teachers love me. I love my school and enjoy going there every day to meet my friends and learn new things. 

Everyone keeps on saying that school life is the best time of your life. When listening to these phrases from their elders, the school students think about what is good about this life. All we do in the entire day is to attend the classes and to do the homework. But once school life gets over, the students realise that school life was the best time of their life.

Apart from learning great things in school, you make new friends, play different sports and create memories for the rest of your life. The students also learn many life skills like teamwork, good manners, etc., and understand what they want to become in their life.

About My School and School Life

I study in the reputed private school in my city, and I am glad to be a student of this school. My school is one of the most renowned schools in my town. It is very beautiful and huge. My school has all the facilities for sports, study and other activities. Built-in a three-storey building, it is a Co-Ed and Senior Secondary School having Science, Arts and Commerce stream. The atmosphere at my school is delightful. We have a huge playing ground where we all students play different games like Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, etc. We have a separate Basketball and Tennis court, as well as a small and beautiful garden for kids.

The students practice these sports every day. The school also has a big swimming pool and sports area for indoor games. In this area, the students can play Table Tennis and Chess. There is also a big skating rink. Different physical training teachers train us for all these sports. These sports not only keep us fit but also increase our stamina and coordination.

School life is not just limited to studies and sports. There are also other activity rooms such as the music room, art room, and dance room. The Art room is a big hall with lots of colourful charts and various types of paints. The students can portray their imagination and can create beautiful art here. Dance and music are also very important in school life as they help the students express themselves in a new manner. The different movements in dance help the students in unwinding themselves.

My school has a big library where we all read different kinds of books, novels and comics. Apart from the library, my school has well-equipped scientific labs where we all practise various experiments of Chemistry, Physics and Biology. I have learned a lot of things in these labs. My school also has a big computer lab with trained technical staff that help us to learn everything about computers. I love playing on the computer and learning new things in the computer lab. In the computer lab, the students learn about using MS Word and PowerPoint. The computer lab is also called the ICT lab. The ICT teacher teaches the students about the internet and how to use it safely.

All the staff at my school are very polite, educated and experienced. Our teachers not only teach us but also prepare us for various competitions, and every year, my school wins many prizes in various competitions. I have even represented my school in a hockey championship and scored the second position.

The classrooms are big and decorated beautifully with different artwork done by the students. Various projects and models are kept in the classroom for the students to keep on revising their concepts. The teachers use smartboards, and every day a new word is taught to enhance the students’ vocabulary. Every day one student presents the ‘Thought for the Day’. These positive thoughts keep us motivated.

All the teachers at my school are very dedicated and punctual. They always teach us discipline and ask us to come to school on time. Our teachers love us, and they teach us in a very simple and easy way. Whenever we fail to understand anything, they try to make us understand it again without shouting at us. They give equal attention to all the students, and that is why my school has an excellent academic record. 

The teachers are well qualified. They use different techniques to teach us the concepts. The atmosphere in the school is fun-filled and fruitful at the same time. The school’s entire staff, from the security guard to the teachers, is very helpful and polite.

We learn many life skills also in school. Discipline, hard work, and punctuality are some of them. During sports classes, we learn teamwork and work together to win.

The best part of my school is its auditorium where all the school events and competitions take place. Our school auditorium is one of the best auditoriums in the town with a great sound and light facility. It is fully air-conditioned with lots of seats. Every year, my school organises an annual cultural festival which lasts for two days. Many cultural events take place within these two days like singing, dancing, debate competition, etc. I love to participate in a poem writing competition every year, and many times I have won prizes as well. Every year, the toppers of our school get awarded on this annual cultural day and we all students love to participate in various events of the annual cultural day.

We also have school assemblies in our Auditorium. Sometimes the students from other schools come and participate in the different competitions organised in our schools. These events are called inter-school competitions. These events are very good as we get to learn new things from other students and make many new friends.

Apart from the annual cultural day, my school is famous for organising one of the biggest annual sports meets. I love this annual sports meet because sports are my favourite. In this annual sports meet, various sports competitions are organised, and almost 50 schools participate in these competitions and win multiple titles. Me, my friends, and our seniors also participate in these competitions and make our school proud by winning in them. My school has great teachers, excellent faculty and all the facilities that one student needs to excel in his/her life.

The biggest reason behind the success and fame of my school is our Principal Sir. He is 50 years old, yet very active and disciplined. He has an attractive personality, and his knowledge is commendable. He loves all the students and always spare some time from his busy schedule to monitor the progress of all the students. I admire his personality and principles. He always encourages us to take part in various extracurricular activities, and it is the result of his support & dedication that the students of my school always perform better in all the competitions. We all are fortunate to have him as our Principal.

Principal sir awards the students who participate and win in different cultural and sports events. He has a good memory and remembers the name of every child. The students feel proud when Principal sir calls them by their names.

After each term, assessments are also being conducted in the school. The teachers prepare us for these assessments, and the results are also shared with the parents. The assessment is a good system as students understand the learning gaps and can work on them. The teachers are very helpful as they assist the students wherever it is required.

I love my school and my school life. Every day I learn new things here and enjoy it with my friends. All my teachers love me and always support me. I have learned discipline and punctuality from my teachers, and it will help me a lot in my future. I am proud to be a student at this school, and I will always miss my school after leaving it. My school life has taught me many things and given me some best friends who will be my friends forever. I wish all the success to my school and love everything about my school life. 

The different experiences which the students get in school life help them to become better human beings. माय स्कूल एस्से: मेरे विद्यालय का नाम राजकीय सहशिख्या माध्यमिक विद्यालय, किर्ति नगर है । यह एक आदर्श विद्‌यालय है । यहाँ शिक्षा खेल-कूद तथा अन्य शिक्षेतर गतिविधियों की उत्तम व्यवस्था है । यहाँ का वातावरण शांत एवं मनोरम है ।

The first day at school will always remain a beautiful memory for me. I wore a new uniform. I was feeling very proud and grown up. Everything felt strange. I did not know where to go. I held tightly to my mother’s finger. Soon our teacher came to me. She looked with a pleasant smile. Then she talked to my mother like a friend. She made us feel at ease. In the classroom, there were many children of my age. They were all dressed like me. Students were playing and shouting when the teacher entered. They became silent and looked at me. The teacher said, “Hello! students here is a new friend join you.’’

The teacher went to her desk. She open the lid, took out a packet, and gave me a toffee. I accepted it with hesitation. I was looking at my mother, outside the room. The teacher treated me very kindly. She said Khuda Hafiz and left. I again left lonely and began to cry. The teacher talked to me very politely, wiped away my tears, and called a couple of boys to play with me. Soon I made friends with them and also with some others. The school now seemed to be totally different from what I had expected. One day, a new student came to school. He was small and timid and had a big, round head that looked like the moon. The teacher asked him his name and he said, “I am called Moon”

Introduction:

We go through numerous stages in life, but the school years are one of the most memorable. A school is a location where we learn in a variety of ways. When students go to school, they have a different experience than when they are at home since the environment is different.

Some of us may have forgotten about our first day in school.

My Personal Experience

It was an interesting first day of school for me. In my head, the recollections are still flowing.

Mom woke me up the following morning and gave me instructions, which I obeyed. I cleaned my teeth, took a bath, and said my prayers. I was delighted to be sporting a new grey uniform. I was wearing my new gleaming black sneaker. My father had bought me a new and large school bag for my school, so I carried it with me. I was smitten by the bag since it featured an image of my favorite cartoon character, a Barbie doll.

While on the road

I was now riding my bike with my father. Nothing on the road kept me more enthralled than the prospect of attending my ideal school. We arrived to the school quickly since it was just 2 kilometers away from our home.

At the Central Office

Rather of going straight to class when I arrived at school, my father brought me to the principal’s office. My father greeted principle sir as we entered the principal’s office, and principal sir struck the bell and summoned peon. The principal told the peon to bring me to my lesson as soon as he arrived. I bid my goodbyes to my father and followed peon.

 In the Lecture Hall

When I walked into my classroom, I was shocked to find such a large space with so many kids. My heart was racing because everyone in the classroom was looking at me as if I were an alien.

I was extremely uneasy at the moment, and within 3 to 4 minutes, a girl walked up to me and sat next me, asking my name and introducing herself. By conversing with her, I discovered that she was the class monitor, and her name was Tina.

The class instructor and the other students greeted me as soon as the class began. My name was written in the attendance book by the instructor.

Pause for Lunch

Tina invites me to breakfast with her group during the lunch break. With Tina, I found myself becoming a little more open.

Hours to Depart

When school ended, I was unhappy for a long since I hadn’t felt like myself for the whole day, not even for a single minute, as if it were my first day.

Schools have made slow progress on record absenteeism, with millions of kids still skipping class

An AP analysis of data from 40 states and DC shows school absenteeism got worse in each one except Arkansas from 2018-2022.

MEDFORD, Mass. (AP) — Flerentin “Flex” Jean-Baptiste missed so much school he had to repeat his freshman year at Medford High outside Boston. At school, “you do the same thing every day,” said Jean-Baptiste, who was absent 30 days his first year. “That gets very frustrating.”

Then his principal did something nearly unheard of: She let students play organized sports during lunch — if they attended all their classes. In other words, she offered high schoolers recess.

“It gave me something to look forward to,” said Jean-Baptiste, 16. The following year, he cut his absences in half. Schoolwide, the share of chronically absent students declined from 35% in March 2023 to 23% in March 2024 — one of the steepest declines among Massachusetts high schools.

Years after COVID-19 upended American schooling, nearly every state is still struggling with attendance , according to data collected by The Associated Press and Stanford University educational economist Thomas Dee.

Roughly one in four students in the 2022-23 school year remained chronically absent, meaning they missed at least 10% of the school year. That represents about 12 million children in the 42 states and Washington, D.C., where data is available.

Before the pandemic, only 15% of students missed that much school.

Society may have largely moved on from COVID, but schools say they’re still battling the effects of pandemic school closures . After as much as a year at home, school for many kids has felt overwhelming, boring or socially stressful. More than ever, kids and parents are deciding it’s OK to stay home, which makes catching up even harder.

In all but one state, Arkansas, absence rates remain higher than pre-pandemic. Still, the problem appears to have passed its peak ; almost every state saw absenteeism improve at least slightly from 2021-22 to 2022-23.

Schools are working to identify students with slipping attendance, then providing help. They’re working to close communication gaps with parents, who often aren’t aware their child is missing so much school or why it’s problematic .

So far, the solutions that appear to be helping are simple — like letters to parents that compare a child’s attendance with peers. But to make more progress, experts say, schools must get creative to address their students’ needs.

Caring adults — and incentives

In Oakland, California, chronic absenteeism skyrocketed from 29% pre-pandemic to 53% in 2022-23 across district and charter schools. Officials asked students what would convince them to come to class.

Money, they replied, and a mentor.

A grant-funded program launched in spring 2023 paid 45 students $50 weekly for perfect attendance. Students also checked in daily with an assigned adult and completed weekly mental health assessments.

Paying students isn’t a permanent or sustainable fix, said Zaia Vera, the district’s head of social-emotional learning.

But many absent students lacked stable housing or were helping to support their families. “The money is the hook that got them in the door,” Vera said.

More than 60% improved their attendance after taking part, Vera said. The program is expected to continue, along with district-wide efforts aimed at creating a sense of belonging. Oakland’s African American Male Achievement project, for example, pairs Black students with Black teachers who offer support.

Kids who identify with their educators are more likely to attend school, said Michael Gottfried, a University of Pennsylvania professor. According to one study led by Gottfried, California students felt “it’s important for me to see someone who’s like me early on, first thing in the day,” he said.

A caring teacher made a difference for Golden Tachiquin, 18, who graduated from Oakland’s Skyline High School this spring. When she started 10th grade after a remote freshman year, she felt lost and anxious. She later realized these feelings caused the nausea and dizziness that kept her home sick. She was absent at least 25 days that year.

But she bonded with an Afro-Latina teacher who understood her culturally and made Tachiquin, a straight-A student, feel her poor attendance didn’t define her.

“I didn’t dread going to her class,” Tachiquin said.

Another teacher had the opposite effect . “She would say, ‘Wow, guess who decided to come today?’ ” Tachiquin recalled. “I started skipping her class even more.”

In Massachusetts, Medford High School requires administrators to greet and talk with students each morning, especially those with a history of missing school.

But the lunchtime gym sessions have been the biggest driver of improved attendance, Principal Marta Cabral said. High schoolers need freedom and an opportunity to move their bodies, she said. “They’re here for seven hours a day. They should have a little fun.”

Stubborn circumstances

Chronically absent students are at higher risk of illiteracy and eventually dropping out . They also miss the meals, counseling and socialization provided at school.

Many of the reasons kids missed school early in the pandemic are still firmly in place: financial hardship , transportation problems, mild illness and mental health struggles.

In Alaska, 45% of students missed significant school last year. In Amy Lloyd’s high school classes in Juneau, some families now treat attendance as optional. Last term, several of her English students missed school for vacations.

“I don’t really know how to reset the expectation that was crushed when we sat in front of the computer for that year,” Lloyd said.

Emotional and behavioral problems also have kept kids home from school. Research shared exclusively with AP found absenteeism and poor mental health are “interconnected,” said University of Southern California professor Morgan Polikoff.

For example, in the USC study, almost a quarter of chronically absent kids had high levels of emotional or behavioral problems, according to a parent questionnaire, compared with just 7% of kids with good attendance. Emotional symptoms among teen girls were especially linked with missing school.

How sick is too sick?

When chronic absence surged to around 50% in Fresno, California, officials realized they had to remedy pandemic-era mindsets about keeping kids home sick .

“Unless your student has a fever or threw up in the last 24 hours, you are coming to school. That’s what we want,” said Abigail Arii, director of student support services.

Often, said Noreida Perez, who oversees attendance, parents aren’t aware physical symptoms can point to mental health struggles — such as when a child doesn’t feel up to leaving their bedroom.

More than a dozen states now let students take mental health days as excused absences. But staying home can become a vicious cycle, said Hedy Chang, of Attendance Works, which works with schools on absenteeism.

“If you continue to stay home from school, you feel more disengaged,” she said. “You get farther behind.”

Changing the culture around sick days is only part of the problem.

At Fresno’s Fort Miller Middle School, where half the students were chronically absent, two reasons kept coming up: dirty laundry and no transportation. The school bought a washer and dryer for families’ use, along with a Chevy Suburban to pick up students who missed the bus. Overall, Fresno’s chronic absenteeism improved to 35% in 2022-23.

Melinda Gonzalez, 14, missed the school bus about once a week and would call for rides in the Suburban.

“I don’t have a car; my parents couldn’t drive me to school,” Gonzalez said. “Getting that ride made a big difference.”

As for college admissions, while a 3.0 is not a low GPA per se, keep in mind the average GPAs of accepted students at the schools you're interested in. All in all, while a 3.0 GPA is respectable, it's helpful to aim for as high a score as one can achieve, particularly if you're aiming for more selective colleges. Remember, though, that colleges look at more than just your GPA: your extracurricular involvement, essays, recommendation letters, and SAT/ACT scores (unless you're applying to a test-blind school) are also important parts of your application.

Donald J. Trump and his allies are planning a sweeping expansion of presidential power over the machinery of government if voters return him to the White House in 2025, reshaping the structure of the executive branch to concentrate far greater authority directly in his hands.

Their plans to centralize more power in the Oval Office stretch far beyond the former president’s recent remarks that he would order a criminal investigation into his political rival, President Biden, signaling his intent to end the post-Watergate norm of Justice Department independence from White House political control.

Mr. Trump and his associates have a broader goal: to alter the balance of power by increasing the president’s authority over every part of the federal government that now operates, by either law or tradition, with any measure of independence from political interference by the White House, according to a review of his campaign policy proposals and interviews with people close to him.

Mr. Trump intends to bring independent agencies — like the Federal Communications Commission, which makes and enforces rules for television and internet companies, and the Federal Trade Commission, which enforces various antitrust and other consumer protection rules against businesses — under direct presidential control.

He wants to revive the practice of “impounding” funds, refusing to spend money Congress has appropriated for programs a president doesn’t like — a tactic that lawmakers banned under President Richard Nixon.

He intends to strip employment protections from tens of thousands of career civil servants, making it easier to replace them if they are deemed obstacles to his agenda. And he plans to scour the intelligence agencies, the State Department and the defense bureaucracies to remove officials he has vilified as “the sick political class that hates our country.”
