College Review

So basically, FMS assigns weightage to your CAT scaled scores for each section. Your CAT scaled score in Verbal Ability (VA) is multiplied by 40/72, in Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation (LRDI) by 30/60, and in Quantitative Ability (QA) by 30/66. Additionally, female candidates receive a bonus of +5 marks. In the final selection criteria, CAT score carries 50% weightage, followed by 15% for the personal interview, 5% for extempore, and 10% for the statement of purpose (SOP). The remaining 20% is allocated for the 10th and 12th scores, with 10 marks each if above 75%, otherwise 5 marks if between 60-75%. Female candidates also receive a 5-mark benefit in the final selection criteria. This constitutes the current selection criteria for FMS.

FMS Delhi - Admissions, College life, and Placements.

  • Fee Structure- the low fees allows a lot of us with high opportunity costs to pursue an MBA. Further, it also allows us to follow our dream domain without having to worry about repaying a heft loan amount.
  • Location- Being located in the heart of the Capital city, we get access to a lot of resources and opportunities such as live projects etc.
  • Semester System- Since the other Bschools globally follow a trimester system, we cant take up a term abroad. however, summer schools are always an option.
  • Fresher Cohort- the admission criteria has no weightage to work experience, making the batch majorly freshers.

To be eligible for an MBA, you only need a Graduation. I had taken the CAT exam and had applied for FMS separately after the result of the CAT was released. FMS does not take a separate entrance exam but uses CAT scores for assessment. The online form has a section for SOP where we need to write our statement of purpose. For shortlisting for interview, a Composite Score out of 100, giving 40 30 30 weightage to verbal quant and DILR is calculated respectively. While the breakup for final selection keeps changing, last year's breakup was Weightage for X and XII- 10 marks each(10/10 if above 75%, 5/10 if less than 75%)

Truly the "Red Building of Dreams"!

  • Top notch faculty, some of the best professors in the whole country.
  • Great location, North Campus in Delhi offers great off-campus spots to have fun and also connectivity.
  • Lack of some sports facilities like playground.

A bachelor's degree is all you need in order to be eligible for this course. Shortlisting is done on the basis of the CAT score. All the details regarding the admission process is published on the official website, fms.edu which also includes the online application form. For those who want to avail reservation benefits, they need to produce their original certificates which are to be submitted at the time of admission.

Dreams from FMS DELHI

  • summer placements are almost 100% except for those who have signed out willingle. the process got completed even vefore the arrival of lesser low stipend companies. The course and placement are excellent and it is a government funded university.
  • the college has small building but being in the centre of delhi allow us to access to world-class infrastructure for all activites.
  • Fms has a 90% attendance policy. If anyone is below that they are not allowed to sit in summer internshio and final placement process.
  • The fees structure as well as infrastructure of the college is under rated in comparison to other famous college.

A student needs to complete their graduation with a minimum score of 50% for this course with CAT cut-off of overall score of 98. However, they can contact to administration sector for an application form as well as any query whereas fees are around 2,00,0000 lakh for mba program. There is no reservation available for students The management department is good at interacting but needs little speed in the admission process.

Best review

The waitlist should be moved somewhat faster as many students are looking for admission and some students have to join the course even after 2-3 months of course initiation. This leads to a gap between the studies and students have to suffer due to the same.

It was really a great process, everything was offline after a long, and the interviewers were good. The process was very smooth and everybody got a really clear idea about the college and its professors here.

  • ABC and FMS: Both institutes required nothing less than 99.5. Those who get admission at a lesser percentile, usually don’t belong to the GEM category. There are many who don’t even get a call with 99.3. So to stay on the safer side, go for nothing less than 99.5.
  • IIM Indore and Kozhikode : Both the institutes require percentiles around 97.5 for an interview call
  • SPJIMR : This Institute has unique selection criteria under which CAT is given less value and calls are issued on the basis of the candidate's profile. The CAT percentile required in this case is less than the normal if you have a good academic profile along with work experience,
  • MDI: This institute issues calls around the 96% mark.

It’s important to know that these figures are based on trends and not on actual data so you will find exceptions everywhere. Moreover, it’s better you don’t waste time analyzing the CAT cutoff and start preparing for the same.

Is FMS Delhi a good option for a MBA executive program?

Sinbad Chongtham

Yes, pursuing an MBA Executive from FMS Delhi is indeed a very good decision. This is because my brother was in the recent batch and according to him these are the reasons that make it a good choice

  • ROI: The fees charged at this B School are very less in comparison to other B schools.
  • Rigor: The MBA Executive Program is quite rigorous with classes 6 days a week. Regular exams, sessionals, projects, and assignments make it a bit frustrating but in the end, they help you in clearing semesters.
  • Faculty: The faculty for this program is very experienced and knowledgeable.
  • Mixed batch: The diverse profiles of your peers make it a more challenging and thrilling experience. The batch has doctors, engineers, CAs, Armed forces officers, PSU employees, and IT professionals.
  • Duration: 2 years
  • Degree: An MBA degree from Delhi University is worth it in the end.

Do students from IIM/FMS/JBIMS/SPJIMR/IIFT/XLRI bunk classes like engineering students?

At IIM/FMS/JBIMS/SPJIMR/IIFT/XLRI, attendance is seen as a crucial aspect of the learning experience. Every effort must be made to be present in class and to participate actively in the discussions. In fact, class participation is considered to be such an important factor in determining grades that a significant portion of the total course weightage is allocated to it. This system is in place to encourage students to be engaged in the learning process and to ensure that they are taking full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them.

On the other hand, at IIT Kanpur, there is a more relaxed approach to attendance. While it is still advisable to attend classes and to be present for lectures, there is no strict requirement in place. This gives students more flexibility and allows them to choose when they want to attend classes based on their personal schedules or other commitments. It also means that engineering students are not penalized if they miss a class or two, as long as they are able to make up for it by participating in other ways, such as completing assignments or preparing for exams.

Overall, both B-schools and Engineering colleges have different approaches to attendance and class participation. While IIM Ahmedabad places a strong emphasis on being present in class and participating actively, IIT Kanpur takes a more relaxed approach. Ultimately, the choice between the two institutions will depend on the individual student's preferences and learning style.

Are there any people with poor academic record who still got into any IIM, XLRI or FMS? If yes, why not share your stories here?

Yes, there are many people who converted IIM, XLRI, FMS calls, even with a poor academic record. I personally know someone who scored less than 50 percentile in engineering yet got accepted at XLRI. He performed well in MBA and now works as a senior HR at a major eCommerce company.

Academic record isn’t the only thing that these institute takes into consideration while selecting students. Your entrance examination score, performance in GD-PI, extracurricular achievements, etc. are equally important.

How are IIM A students different from students of, say, SP Jain, NMIMS, FMS or JB?

The peer pool of IIM Ahmedabad varies from that of other B-schools like SP Jain, FMS, and NMIMS because of the admission criteria and quality of intake. The majority of the IIM Ahmedabad batch comprises performing students with CAT percentile almost touching 100 percentile. and most of them got close to the 100 percentile in CAT and they get opportunities to study business studies in IIM A, B, and C. Very few students get into IIMs through the process of diversification only if they scored more than 80 percent grade in Xth, XII th and Graduate Examinations. The other B schools like SP Jain, FMS, NMIMS, or JB don’t have such strict criteria and the peer pool comprises students from diverse academic profiles rather than just top CAT rankers.

This is the major point of difference between the two kinds of B Schools. As a result of this, IIM Ahmedabad students are offered better placement opportunities at the global level than these average B-schools.

Can an average student get into FMS Delhi with a high CAT percentile? What will be a safe CAT score for an average student to get into FMS Delhi?

Of course, yes. FMS Delhi is everyone's ideal college. The pattern has been changed, and the paper is now worth 228 points. A score of 115 is sufficient to receive a call from FMS. It is the only tier-1 college that places little emphasis on previous academic performance. If you scored a 99.50 or higher on the CAT exam, you will almost certainly receive a call from FMS. To transfer to college, one must be fluent in English.

The FMS process includes group discussions, extempore, and, finally, a personal interview. In addition, they included an SOP in their selection process. You must describe who you are, your accomplishments in the workplace, and your motivation for pursuing an MBA in a statement of purpose (SOP).

Everyone is interested in FMS because of its large batch size and high ROI. To get into FMS, you must score higher than the 99 percentile. Try your hardest to achieve the highest percentile possible while ignoring your academic records. FMS is the best option for you if your academic performance is subpar. Because the college calls candidates 10 times the number of seats, scoring 99.50 percentile guarantees you a call from FMS. There are 251 seats available in FMS. Simply devote yourself entirely to the preparations and concentrate on increasing your percentile. The higher your CAT exam score, the more likely it is that you will convert.

What is your review of the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi?

Amanda Marie Jacob

One of the most cited B Schools in India, the Faculty of Management Studies focuses more on management education and not just on business management. The pedagogy comprises fieldwork, case studies, and feedback with a strong emphasis on concepts and theory.

According to IIFT 2022, its national rank is 4th. I will try to give an unbiased review based on the following aspects

FMS Delhi maintains a stable placement record of almost 100% over the years. Students receive high salary packages every year. The highest salary this year stood at INR 58 LPA whereas the average salary stood at INR 34.2 LPA which increased by 30.5% as compared to the previous year. Some major firms that visited the campus for recruitment are Boston Consulting Group, Nykaa, Paytm, Adobe, Adani Group, and BYJU.

Infrastructure

Although FMS offers no special hostel facilities, the DU hostels are also a choice. Around 20% of the batch go for hostels test search for PGs or flats near the campus itself. The students can avail of playground and sports facilities at Delhi University.

Faculty

The faculty is top-notch and very experienced. The teaching is not restricted to classrooms and assignments rather the faculty adopts a case-based approach. Various live projects are conducted every year. Top management executives visit the campus and hold guest lectures to provide maximum exposure to its students. Other assignments and field projects have tight deadlines and aid in the proper evaluation of the students.

So overall I think FMS is really a good choice for someone who wants to learn from the best at minimal expenses.

What is the selection procedure of FMS, Delhi?

The entire selection procedure of FMS Delhi has 4 stages.

  • Application
  • Initial shortlisting
  • Final Selection

Result Declaration

Final Selection

The final selection of candidates is based on Discussion on the Statement of Purpose, Extempore and Personal Interview. The various parameters considered and their respective weightage is as follows

10

Class 12

10

GD

10

Extempore

PI

An additional 5 marks will be awarded to the Women Candidates who appear for the Interview.

Based on the above weightage a list of final candidates is prepared according to the availability of seats. The final results are declared after this.

How come there are so many IAS toppers from FMS Delhi University?

  • Low fees relieve the burden of student loan repayment and allow students to take risks.
  • Low academic rigor and plenty of time to study for civils.
  • Very helpful and encouraging faculty members who will motivate you to join services over high-paying IB or consultancy jobs.
  • Being in Delhi makes it easier to obtain all the necessary study materials.
  • Interaction with other stream DU students in mixed hostels is beneficial.
  • The allure of Lutyens Delhi draws you into civil service.
  • Exposure to and interaction with a variety of serving and retired bureaucrats.
  • Having the opportunity to study at such a low cost motivates you to directly contribute to nation-building while foregoing high-paying jobs.
  • Most importantly, if you take management as an optional, you have a better chance of scoring well because the syllabus of the UPSC management exam, question paper pattern, and examiner's taste align well with our FMS faculty.
  • FMS is more well-known in the Delhi NCR area than L, I, and K, giving you a good reputation and a head start in UPSC interviews.

Anyone Preparing please share some Tips

That's great! Honestly, I've been watching some of the Drishti Mock Interviews for the IAS exams and I feel like this is quite similar compared to those. Having a vast knowledge of various fields like current affairs, finance, marketing and even having a liking for economics and business is very important. Sometimes you get random topics for your extempore like favourite food or sometimes you get a few complex topics like marketing techniques for elections. Whatever topic you get, if you don't have information about it, just be honest and tell them you don't know but don't go through too many topics or else the interviewer might get annoyed. If you don't know a topic, tell them as much as you know. Being honest with them is key and be concise with your matter

How does FMS Delhi support students in securing internships and final placements, especially considering the competitive nature of the job market?

As per FMC guidelines, FMS provides 100% placements which means that they ensure that every student studying there will get a job from their campus. Plus they also say that the students will get the job of their choice in the field of their interest. The final placements at FMS are a two-step process. I guess it will have two rounds. The lateral Placements program which generally starts in December is an endeavor to adequately compensate students with relevant prior MBA experience.

What scores do I need in interviews, SOP discussion, and extempore? Also, is it likely for the composite score to decrease this time?"

My Overall Percentile stands at 99.69%. Here's the breakdown of my scaled scores: Overall - 89.36, VARC - 58.14, DILR - 19.61, QA - 11.61. Additionally, my academic scores are 9/9/8 GEF. My call composite score, based solely on CAT score, is 48.30. However, my selection composite score is 49.15 (CAT - 24.15, Acads - 20, Male candidate - 5).

Himanshu

To calculate the scores you need in interviews, SOP discussion, and extempore, as well as to estimate the likelihood of your composite score decreasing, let's break down the information provided:

1. **CAT Scores**:

- Overall CAT Percentile: 99.69%

- Scaled Scores: VARC - 58.14, DILR - 19.61, QA - 11.61

2. **Academic Scores**:

- 10th/12th/Graduation/Post-graduation: 9/9/8 GEF

3. **Composite Scores**:

- Call Composite Score (based solely on CAT score): 48.30

- Selection Composite Score (including CAT score, academic scores, and male candidate factor): 49.15

Given this information, let's analyze:

- Your overall CAT percentile is already very high (99.69%), indicating strong performance compared to other candidates.

- Your scaled scores in DILR and QA are relatively low compared to VARC. You may need to focus on improving your performance in these sections.

- Your academic scores are quite good, with a 9/9/8 GEF, which should positively contribute to your selection composite score.

- The selection composite score includes CAT score (24.15), academic scores (20), and male candidate factor (5). Since your CAT score is already high and academic scores are good, further improvement may not be necessary in these areas.

Considering the above points, to estimate the scores you need in interviews, SOP discussion, and extempore:

- Interviews, SOP discussion, and extempore are subjective assessments and do not have predefined score targets. However, your strong CAT percentile and academic scores should put you in a favorable position.

- Focus on presenting yourself confidently, articulating your thoughts clearly, and showcasing your achievements and aspirations effectively during interviews and SOP discussion.

- For extempore, practice speaking on a variety of topics to improve your communication skills and ability to think on your feet.

Regarding the likelihood of your composite score decreasing:

- Your selection composite score (49.15) is already higher than your call composite score (48.30), indicating that additional factors such as academic scores and male candidate factor have positively influenced your overall score.

- Unless there are significant changes or discrepancies in your application details, it is unlikely for your composite score to decrease.

Overall, continue to focus on presenting yourself effectively during interviews and discussions, and leverage your strong academic and CAT scores to strengthen your candidacy for selection.

FMS Delhi offers 2 main courses i.e. a full-time MBA and an Evening MBA Executive . The MBA program has 251 seats, MBA Executive has 300 seats, and MBA Executive HCA has 60 seats. Both MBA and MBA Executive course covers almost a similar curriculum. The course duration and the fees are also similar, so what exactly is the difference?

  • The full-time MBA program is designed for freshers with 0-2 years of experience, but the MBA executive is for those who have a working experience of more than 5 years.
  • If an individual does not want to take a career break and wants to continue with their job along with pursuing an MBA degree, then MBA Executive is for them. However, the full-time MBA does not allow such perks.
  • The MBA classes will be held throughout the week from morning to evening. The MBA Executive classes will be held only in the evening from Monday to Friday, but on Saturdays, they can be held for longer durations.
  • For admission into the MBA program, the candidates will have to appear for the CAT exam, whereas, for MBA Executives, no entrance exam is required.

FMS Delhi and the first generation IIMs like IIM Ahmedabad , IIM Calcutta , IIM Bangalore , etc are the top management institutes in India and are the dream colleges of all the MBA aspirants. These are the top preferences of all MBA aspirants because of their brand value.

Secondly, if we look at the faculty and the pedagogy of FMS and the IIMs , then it is incomparable as they offer the best in the industry. Even the placements are incomparable.

FMS Delhi Average Package IIM Ahmedabad Average Package IIM Bangalore Average Package IIM Calcutta Average Package
INR 34.1 LPA INR 34.36 LPA INR 35.31 LPA INR 35.07 LPA

One of the major differences between FMS And First Generation IIMs is that, FMS is budget-friendly and the IIM fees are very expensive. Let's compare the fees:

FMS Delhi Fees IIM Ahmedabad Fees IIM Bangalore Fees IIM Calcutta Fees
INR 2 Lakhs INR 25 Lakhs INR 24.5 Lakhs INR 27 Lakhs

Another point to compare is the campus and amenities. FMS has a small campus of 7 acres, located in the heart of Delhi. FMS does not even have a hostel and accommodates its students in the Delhi University hostels. Whereas the IIMs offer a huge campus of around 300-acre space and provide state-of-the-art facilities, including academic blocks, hostels, sports arena, gym, swimming pool, and many more. So FMS is a better institute in terms of affordability, but if someone is looking for a more luxurious experience and money is not a constraint for them then they can choose the top IIMs.

FMS Delhi has been creating talented managers for half a century now. FMS Delhi has a rich alumni network with alumnus working in the top MNCs. FMS Delhi keeps conducting events and meets for the students to connect with the alumni. Some of the notable alumni are:

  • Mohit Joshi (1994 - 96) - CEO and Managing Director at Tech Mahindra
  • Rohit Jawa (1986 - 88) - CEO & MD at HUL
  • Amit Jain (1985 - 87) - Chairperson of Lo’real
  • Deepak Khetrapal (1989 - 1991) - MD & CEO Orient Cement Ltd
