Good day fellow students. I'll be giving a speech about sports and gaming today. I'm delighted I got this topic because it's exciting and relevant to students.

In most schools, sports and games classes are required. This is because children must acclimate to rigorous physical work and not become fatigued easily. It's difficult initially, regardless of the sport. But, over time, one's body adjusts to the movements, strokes, gestures, and so on.

When we participate in a physical sport, whether it's football, swimming, boxing, or any other sport, our bodies, muscles, and bones get a good workout. It gives us strength and increases our energy levels. Sports can be a stress reliever for certain people, making their hearts and body quiet and serene.

Indoor sports and games, such as chess, cards, and billiards, necessitate a greater cerebral effort than physical exertion. You must ponder and play. Players must have a strategy in place as well as a thorough comprehension of the game's laws and regulations.

Sports and sports provide pleasant relaxation, as well as keep our mind and body in good shape, active and collected. You can study and improve any sport or game in your spare time. This instills in us the ability to trust each other, be loyal and calmly solve problems. He teaches us not to give up no matter how many times we fail, and to keep practicing until we succeed.

People should learn about and participate in a variety of sports and games. That way, they'll be able to figure out which sport is ideal for them. You must be completely committed to the sport or game you have chosen. You must devote 100% of your attention to the game while playing. You must play the game and have fun with it. You must allow the energy to flow naturally through your body. Students should be encouraged to learn things outside of the classroom.

Your anecdote however should have a moral that goes with your sports speech. The speech is the main point but the anecdote is going to be one thing that helps your audience capture the essence of it. Basically, your anecdote is the stepping stone of your sports speech. So match both.

3. Speak About the Importance of Sportsmanship

You should be speaking about what your sports speech is about. If your theme is about sportsmanship or the general idea about sports, use that. However, also add the importance of sportsmanship and the value of sports when it comes to children and teenagers. As we know that they may have this idea of competitiveness, it is still best to add it.

4. Use Simple Words

When you are going to be explaining something in your speech, it is always best to use simple words over words that may not be as familiar to your audience as it is to you. Remember that your audience can be a mix of children, teenagers and even adults, so what adults may be able to understand the rest may not. In addition to that, be careful with how you word your speech. Avoid any words that may look as if it could be misinterpreted and may lead to some serious issues.

5. Finish Your Speech With a Positive Mindset

Just as how you made your speech, a positive and enthusiastic upbeat attitude, you should also end your speech with the same attitude. Sportsmanship is an essential aspect of competitive sports that helps athletes develop their character and skills. It refers to exhibiting respect, fairness, and ethical behavior towards opponents and teammates. In this section, I will discuss the benefits of sportsmanship and explore strategies for developing it in athletes.

The benefits of sportsmanship extend beyond the playing field. Athletes who demonstrate sportsmanship are more likely to be respected and appreciated by their teammates, coaches, and opponents. They are also more likely to be noticed by recruiters and have a better chance of advancing to higher levels of competition, such as collegiate or professional sports.

In addition, sportsmanship encourages athletes to maintain their composure and stay focused under pressure. By promoting self-discipline and mental toughness, athletes develop resilience and the ability to bounce back from setbacks. These qualities are beneficial not only in sports but also in other areas of life.

Developing sportsmanship in athletes requires a deliberate effort on the part of coaches, parents, and players themselves. Here are a few strategies that can help:

  • Lead by example: Coaches and parents should model sportsmanship behavior by exhibiting respect towards opponents, officials, and each other.
  • Emphasize the importance of sportsmanship: Coaches should make it clear to athletes that sportsmanship is just as important as winning.
  • Establish team values: Coaches can establish team values that prioritize sportsmanship, such as fair play, respect, and ethical behavior.
  • Offer praise and recognition: Coaches should praise athletes when they exhibit sportsmanship behavior, such as congratulating an opponent or helping an injured player.

By developing sportsmanship in athletes , we not only improve the quality of competition but also promote positive character development that extends beyond the playing field.

Promoting Fair Play: Ethical Behavior in Sports

Sportsmanship in competitive sports plays a crucial role in promoting fair play and ethical behavior. It refers to a code of conduct that emphasizes respect for opponents, teammates, coaches, and officials. When athletes practice good sportsmanship, they not only become better players but also ambassadors of the game.

Ethical behavior in sports involves following the rules and regulations of the game, playing fair, and avoiding any actions that could harm others. This includes refraining from cheating, insulting opponents, and engaging in unsportsmanlike conduct. Teams that value sportsmanship and ethical behavior create a positive and healthy environment for everyone involved.

Coaches and team managers play a vital role in promoting sportsmanship and ethical behavior among players. They should set clear expectations for behavior both on and off the field, hold players accountable for their actions, and lead by example. By emphasizing the importance of fair competition and respect for others, coaches can help their teams become champions both on and off the field.

Officials also play a key role in promoting fair play and ethical behavior in competitive sports. In conclusion, sportsmanship plays a critical role in shaping athletes’ character and fostering a positive sporting culture. By promoting fair play and upholding the values of sportsmanship, athletes demonstrate their ability to compete with integrity, both on and off the playing field. Sportsmanship plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy sporting environment by promoting respectful behavior, discouraging unsportsmanlike conduct, and ensuring fair competition.

Sportsmanship can be promoted in competitive sports by emphasizing the values of fair play, encouraging mutual respect among athletes, and implementing and enforcing ethical standards and guidelines.

No, sportsmanship applies to all individuals involved in sports, including coaches, officials, and spectators. It is essential for everyone to exhibit sportsmanlike conduct and contribute to a positive sporting culture.

Sportsmanship contributes to the overall development of athletes by fostering qualities such as resilience, sportsmanlike behavior, empathy, and good moral character, which are valuable both in sports and in life.

Famous Sports Speeches

William Neckard

Famous sports speeches highlight some of the greatest speeches about sports in the history of athletics. From famous speeches by athletes to legendary speeches by coaches, many of the most memorable sentiments in sports history are here on this sports speech list. This list includes motivational speeches for athletes, pump up speeches, and just the most all around famous sport speeches.

If " great moments are born from great opportunity ," then these famous sports speeches helped those opportunities become great moments by providing the motivation to achieve the impossible. What are the most famous sports speeches? From the pre-game pump-up speeches by coaches before championship games to the reflection speeches given after great careers, these famous sports speeches are some of the best ever.

What are the greatest speeches in sports? While sports movies like Any Given Sunday  and Hoosiers give plenty of fictional inspiring speeches , these speeches took place in real life and inspired generations to come.

Jimmy Valvano

Jimmy Valvano

Appearing at the first ESPY Awards on March 3, 1993, former North Carolina State basketball coach Jimmy Valvano gave an emotional and motivational speech while accepting the Arthur Ashe Courage and Humanitarian Award. Valvano was suffering from cancer at the time, announcing The V Foundation and urging everyone to laugh, think and cry everyday, words that also appeared on his tombstone after he lost his battle with cancer less than two months later.

Lou Gehrig

Showing strength and optimism in the face of adversity, baseball legend Lou Gehrig gave the famous "Luckiest Man on the Face of the Earth" speech during a New York Yankees game on July 4, 1939, which was also deemed Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day.

Only days earlier, the six-time World Series champion had retired from the game after he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

"Fans, for the past two weeks you have been reading about the bad break I got. Yet today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth. I have been in ballparks for seventeen years and have never received anything but kindness and encouragement from you fans... So I close in saying that I might have been given a bad break, but I've got an awful lot to live for. Thank you."

Herb Brooks

Herb Brooks

Speaking to his players prior to a game at the 1980 Winter Olympics, legendary hockey coach Herb Brooks inspired his squad to complete the impossible and beat the dominant Soviet team. They did just that, completing the "Miracle on Ice" and went on to win the gold medal.

Though the original speech was done in a private locker room, in the 2004 film Miracle , Kurt Russell recreated the speech.

"Great moments are born from great opportunity, and that's what you have here tonight, boys. That's what you've earned here tonight. One game; if we played them ten times, they might win nine. But not this game, not tonight. Tonight, we skate with them. Tonight we stay with them, and we shut them down because we can. Tonight, we are the greatest hockey team in the world. You were born to be hockey players—every one of you, and you were meant to be here tonight. This is your time. Their time is done. It's over. I'm sick and tired of hearing about what a great hockey team the Soviets have. Screw 'em. This is your time. Now go out there and take it!"

Muhammad Ali

Muhammad Ali

Prior to fighting George Foreman on October 30, 1974, Muhammad Ali read this poem as part of the build-up for the fight known as "The Rumble in the Jungle." Ali won the fight in the eighth round, pulling off one of the biggest upsets in the history of boxing.

Babe Ruth

Frail and in pain from nasopharyngeal carcinoma, the legendary baseball player Babe Ruth made one last appearance at Yankee Stadium for "Babe Ruth Day" on April 27, 1947, to give his farewell speech. The Bambino addressed the sell-out crowd of over 60,000 by reflecting on his journey to the big leagues and inspiring generations to follow in his footsteps.

"Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen.

You know how bad my voice sounds -- well it feels just as bad.

You know this baseball game of ours comes up from the youth. That means the boys.

And after you're a boy and grow up to know how to play ball, then you come to the boys you see representing themselves today in your national pastime, the only real game -- I think -- in the world, baseball.

As a rule, some people think if you give them a football, or a baseball, or something like that -- naturally they're athletes right away.

But you can't do that in baseball.

You've gotta start from way down [at] the bottom, when you're six or seven years of age. You can't wait until you're fifteen or sixteen. You gotta let it grow up with you. And if you're successful, and you try hard enough, you're bound to come out on top -- just like these boys have come to the top now.

There's been so many lovely things said about me, and I'm glad that I've had the opportunity to thank everybody.

Vince Lombardi

Vince Lombardi

Easily considered one of the best National Football League coaches ever, the great Vince Lombardi gave this final speech to his players on the Green Bay Packers prior to Super Bowl II on January 14, 1968. Lombardi's team defeated the Oakland Raiders 33-14 to win their second-consecutive Super Bowl. His legacy was later honored with the Super Bowl trophy being renamed the Lombardi Trophy.

The Importance of Sportsmanship and What it Should Look Like

The Importance of Sportsmanship and What it Should Look Like

By Brian G. Phelps, FWCD Director of Athletics (2018-2020)

Most reasonable athletes and parents would agree that sportsmanship is an important aspect of athletics. Although it comes in many forms, everyone can give a few examples of what sportsmanship looks like and what it takes to be viewed as a “good sport”: We shake hands before and after games, we clap for injured players once they show they are okay, and we extend a hand to help an opponent get up off of the ground. These examples are just scratching the surface of displaying good sportsmanship.

Sportsmanship is an understanding of and commitment to fair play, ethical behavior and integrity, and general goodwill toward an opponent. It is an affirmation that an athlete is disciplined enough to have perspective, maintain poise and do what is best for his or her teammates. Being able to make appropriate behavioral choices at the “moment of truth” and in a pressure situation will often reveal a player’s character and his or her ability to be a good sport. Simply put, sportsmanship is a choice.

It is easy for parents and kids to get caught up in a game and become too focused on winning. Although winning is important, it is not always the most important aspect of the game. There is so much to be gained and learned from an athletic experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life. Good sportsmanship is one of those life lessons that should be intentionally learned, taught, practiced and reinforced.

No matter how much we would like to, we cannot win at everything every time. So we need to learn to deal with defeat. After a hard fought game in which everything was left on the playing field in a losing effort, it can be very difficult to look your opponents in the eye and tell them “good game” or “good job.” But this is what is asked of athletes. The key question is: How do we handle losing with dignity?

Keep losing in perspective . Youth sports are a learning experience. Very few wins and losses are remembered, even a short time later.  Always accept responsibility for the loss . Acknowledge the winners and congratulate them. Sometimes your opponent was just better. Even if they are not better, they were better during that particular contest. The effort should be acknowledged. Sulking shows a lack of discipline.

Winning is fun! It is the reward for your hard work. When we participate in a sport that keeps score, it is our obligation to the team to do our best to win within the rules of the game and within the spirit of the game. Winning becomes a negative when it is a team’s only goal.

Keep winning in perspective . Winning doesn’t mean you were perfect or that you will win again. Celebrate your win, but celebrate your win with grace . Have empathy for the team you defeated; win with humility and class . Acknowledge your opponents’ effort and that they were worthy competitors. North Carolina basketball Coach Dean Smith once said, “A lion never roars after a kill.” I love that quote and the parallel to what “good winning” should look like.

A recent study conducted by the NCAA showed that while sportsmanship among players has improved over the years, sportsmanship in the fans and parents has declined. It has always intrigued me why people in the stands often feel they have more invested than the actual participants. Is it the time and money invested into private lessons and travel teams? Is it living vicariously through our kids? Is it the college scholarship we need our children to earn? Is it the fear of seeing our kids fail? In any event, we, as parents and fans, should all take a step back and determine if we are helping our kids, or undermining the experience.

As a father of four kids who enjoys participating in athletics, I have to remind myself that it is okay when my kid misses a shot, strikes out, or doesn’t play good enough defense. That fact is, it is their game and their experience, and my playing days are over. A good reminder for me when I feel like my kid needs my advice from the stands comes from the great John Wooden, basketball player and head Coach at the University of California at Los Angeles. Coach Wooden once said, “Young people need models, not critics.”

Instead of being upset with what my kid is not doing well, or how an official has “cheated” our team, I should focus on helping my kid learn to respect the other team. I should watch my language and the negative comments that could come from my mouth. I should respect the officials and not argue every call that is made. Perhaps most importantly, I should support my kids’ team, win or lose.

Life is tough, and life is not fair. Like life, sports are tough and not always fair. Yet sports can be a wonderful training ground for life’s challenges. Just like we win some and lose some in sports, we also deal with plenty of successes, challenges and failures in our lives. Let’s try to be good sports in both the winning and losing situations and during our successes, challenges and failures.

I think it is a good reminder for all of us that there are only four roles during a game: spectator, competitor, official and coach. Everyone involved in athletics would be wise to choose only one of those roles at a time.

I leave you with one more quote; however, I truly could go on and on. In my opinion, Knute Rockne, football player and Coach at the University of Notre Dame, said it best: “One man practicing sportsmanship is far better than a hundred teaching it.”

Do not just simply say, “be a good sport.” Model it, teach it, expect it.

Sportsmanship

Sportsmanship means not only taking part in sports and playing games with the set rules, but also leading a life with the same sportsman spirit displayed on the playing fields. Sportsman spirit is the behavior and attitude considered appropriate in sports.

A true sportsman follows all the rules in life, which he has been following in the game. A person who has achieved skills and abilities in a game but has not learned to apply the values of the sport in his life cannot be called a true sportsman. On the other hand, a person who shows a strong sporting spirit in his life, but has not achieved much in-game is still a sportsman. Usually, those who play games develop into true sportsmen because of their nature formed by the training they receive in initial years.

Some of the important qualities that a true sportsman displays after defeats are discipline, joyfulness, and admiration for the opponent. Respect, hustle, and loyalty are very important principles for a real sportsman. Sportsmanship is always appreciated by others. Honest and fair-minded play is important in sportsmanship. A side or a team is penalized if its player is found at fault. Similarly, in life, one should always be fair in dealing with other people and different situations.

Some of the other important qualities that true sportsman displays in life include passion, sincerity, morality, fairness, and honesty. A true sportsman never practices unfair tricks, falsehoods, and cheating. He never takes advantage of the weakness of his opponent. He always shows respect and obedience to his team captain. He works hard to win the faith of his team members. In life too, a sportsman obeys his seniors and elders even if he disagrees in certain matters. Thus, respect for discipline is a necessary part of sportsmanship. However, a competitor who shows poor sportsmanship after losing a game or contest is often called a ‘sore loser’.

In various games, players have to work in cooperation with their team. Only then, they may succeed in winning. A sportsman is aware of the fact that without mutual understanding, success is not possible. In the same way, in life, we must always be by the side of our relatives and friends when they need us the most.

For the spirit of sportsmanship, cheerfulness is required even in times of defeats and failures. A person can develop the quality of sportsmanship only when he works with others without jealousy and fights. Working in a state of Peaceful existence with others is the main demand for sportsmanship.

The word sportsmanship implies working with co-operation, sincerity, discipline, punctuality, and obedience. In other words, the virtue of team-spirit can be called sportsmanship.

The word sportsmanship does not mean goals and records pertaining to the sports field. It is also applicable in daily life like the way in which we conduct ourselves socially, in business, in-class rooms, and as a citizen.

Co-operation is an important aspect of sportsmanship. No goal in life or in the field can be achieved without the co-operation of our peers and compatriots. A person can be self-reliant only to an extent. There comes a stage when without the co-operation of our fellow beings a person cannot hope to achieve a larger goal. Mahatama Gandhi was a self-reliant person; however, he also needed the co-operation of the Indian masses in order to make his non-co-operation movement and Satyagraha successful.

Sincerity is the most essential part of sportsmanship. In the absence of it, the truth and the commitment of the person towards the task at hand is lost. The attempts become half-hearted. The willingness to go to all the extents to complete the job perfectly is lost. The end result is an incomplete or unsatisfactory work

Discipline is required in great quantities if one wishes to complete the job in the easiest way. Discipline makes a person more systematic. He does the job in a regular and proper manner. No loophole or snag in the job is left unattended. In the end, the finished work is a joy to behold.

Punctuality is the essence of sportsmanship. In the absence of it, the schedule and the time-table for the job go hay-wire. The worker and the team who do not value time are the most careless workers. They because of their attitude towards time often endanger the whole project or the work at hand. Every work in this world has to be completed within a certain time-frame. If this is not followed chaos will reign. It is therefore not without a reason that nature follows its time-table with a great deal of punctuality.

Obedience is the last dimension of sportsmanship. This could be towards rules, towards team leader, or towards the principles of the job at hand. Disobedience to any aspect of the work may result in damages, loss of life, or abortion of the work at hand. It also means trusting the judgments of the leader and the captain for the final achievement of the goal

All the above-mentioned factors when well-knit make a team and an individual a dependable entity. It also makes a process smooth, the realization of the goals easier, and saves time in the bargain.

Olympics teach us good sportsmanship.

I don’t have a favorite Olympic sport. I’m not an athlete. High school marching band was my team sport. But I do love the Olympic Games, and for me, it’s all about the stories — stories of perseverance, camaraderie and sportsmanship. I love watching athletes show us what they’re made of and who they really are by how they rise to the challenge and how they support one another.

Stories of competitors like Stephen Nedoroscik, the “nerdy” mechanical engineer who focused on his strengths to make it against all odds. He dominated the pommel horse despite a rare eye condition that would render most people incapable of athletic participation, much less being an Olympic medalist. He’s been deemed a “unicorn” by medical doctors, but thanks to his perseverance, he achieved his dream and landed on the podium with a bronze medal. Let him be an example for every child who is told they can’t. The whole world will tell you no. Don’t do it for them by not ever trying.

It’s athletes like Simone Biles who came back after withdrawing from several 2020 Olympic events in Tokyo. She showed us all that it is OK to listen to your body and recognize when you need to step back. The lesson her story offers is to not let others tell you to keep up the hustle when you know you need to pause. Taking a break is not a failure. It’s preservation. Each of us should have such confidence and also learn such grace. Biles came back stronger than ever for herself, for her teammates and for her sport.

Beyond the athletes, it’s also watching Snoop Dogg living his best life with such joy and authenticity. From carrying the torch and hanging with Martha Stewart to swimming with Michael Phelps and wearing the best outfits through it all, hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg teaches us to savor the joy in life and lean into your identity. Show the world who you truly are.

Each of these stories shows us exactly what the world needs right now: a coming together, not political rhetoric and fighting. The Olympics show us triumph in every sport, sure. But they also show us respect for fellow athletes from all over the world while each are examples of people striving to be and become their best selves.

While we root for our favorite teams and athletes, we must also learn from this international display of sportsmanship. How do we apply it to our daily lives? How do we take a minute to recognize that this is exactly what each of us should do in our daily lives? Like Simon Sinek says, life is an infinite game, so show up every day to do your best while also believing that everyone else is also doing their very best. Let’s learn from these elite athletes in the Olympic Games.

Trailblazing U.S. Olympic wrestlers Helen Maroulis, Sarah Hildebrandt pave path for sport’s explosive growth

Paris medalists speak to how ncaa championship in women’s wrestling will further elevate sport.

When three-time Olympic medalist Helen Maroulis started wrestling, she was 7 years old and immediately fell in love with it. Then, her parents told her to quit.

"There's no future for you," the 32-year-old Maroulis recalled them saying. "There were no scholarships."

They weren't wrong.

Women's wrestling was still years away from its Olympic debut in 2004 in Athens and more than two decades from being added in 2020 to the NCAA Emerging Sports for Women's program, which requires a minimum of 20 schools sponsoring varsity teams and/or competitive club teams to be considered.

"There wasn't a path," Maroulis said.

Still, she paved her own way. Maroulis became a standout at Simon Fraser, a Division II school in Canada where she won three of her four individual Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association championships from 2011-14. On Friday, she became the first U.S. women's wrestler to earn three Olympic medals, which include a bronze in Paris, a bronze in Tokyo and gold at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Also in Paris, Maroulis witnessed another first: U.S. women winning two golds in wrestling during an Olympic Games. One of those was won by Sarah Hildebrandt, whose story in the sport is similar to Maroulis'.

When Hildebrandt started wrestling in Indiana, it was against boys. She was only aware of two other high school girls in the state to wrestle. She, too, blazed an unlikely trail and in the process played a role in the sport's rapid growth.

"Now, there's 40 girls on my high school team," Hildebrandt said. "I went to high school a while ago, but not that long ago."

Hildebrandt's high school anecdote is far from a one-off. The sport has blown up in popularity across the country.

According to Wrestle Like a Girl , 44 states have sanctioned girls wrestling in their high school athletics association. Data from the National Federation of State High School Associations shows that in the 1998-99 academic year — around the time Maroulis started in the sport — there were 661 schools that reported a total of 2,361 girls wrestling across the U.S. In the 2022-23 data , those numbers were 6,545 schools and 50,016 girls. That's an 890% increase in schools and a 2,018% increase in girls wrestling.

"It's grown so quickly," Hildebrandt said.

Including at the college level.

When Hildebrandt wanted to continue wrestling in college, she said she had fewer than 10 schools to choose from. She landed at King (Tennessee), a Division II school where she thrived .

Now, the number of colleges offering the sport is hard to keep track of. In the 2022-23 academic year, nearly 800 student-athletes competed in women's wrestling across 51 NCAA teams. Before the 2023-24 academic year, 76 NCAA schools reported that they would sponsor the sport.

"The growth in collegiate (wrestling), it's just going to take over," Hildebrandt, who graduated from King in 2015, said. "There's so much more opportunity now. There's so much support. It's exciting."

Dominique Parrish, who became a first-time Olympian in Paris, also marveled at the college opportunities available now. The California native wrestled at Simon Fraser.

"There are so many different schools than when I was going to school," said Parrish, who finished her Simon Fraser career in 2019.

The sport's growth hit another critical milestone this year, getting recommended for NCAA championship status by the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics , which oversees the NCAA Emerging Sports for Women program . If all three divisions approve the recommendation at the 2025 NCAA Convention, women's wrestling will get its first NCAA championship in the winter of 2026.

"It's going to be huge," Maroulis said.

"I've been to one NCAA (men's wrestling) tournament, and it was huge," Parrish added. "I think that having that opportunity for women to have that fan base is just going to do great things for the sport."

Earning championship status has helped a number of collegiate sports to serve as the training grounds for even more Olympians across the world.

Rowing was the first emerging sport to earn championship status through the Emerging Sports for Women program, which was established in 1994 based on a recommendation from the NCAA Gender Equity Task Force. As the college talent pool increased, so did the Olympic success of the U.S. Notably, the U.S. women's eight boat won gold in 2008, 2012 and 2016. In Paris, 52 women's Olympic rowers from 16 countries had ties to 23 NCAA schools. Of those, 12 became Olympic medalists.

Water polo was next, earning NCAA championship status in 2000 out of the Emerging Sports for Women program. At the 2012 Olympics, the Team USA women won their first of three straight gold medals — they were upset in the semifinals in Paris. Forty-one women's water polo players at the Paris Olympics from six different countries had played at the NCAA level across 13 schools.

Women's beach volleyball is the most recent example. It went from being added to the Emerging Sports for Women program in 2012 to its first NCAA championship in 2016. In Paris, both U.S. women's pairs had competed in NCAA beach volleyball — an Olympic first. Additionally, they were college teammates, with one pair playing together at LSU and the other at Southern California. There were four other NCAA beach volleyball products competing in Paris for Canada, Spain and Latvia.

Women's wrestling could follow the same trend.

Four Team USA women's wrestlers at the Paris Games had competed at an NCAA school. And four U.S. women overall medaled at the 2024 Olympics, including Kennedy Blades, who has committed to wrestle for Iowa this year and won silver Sunday. Amit Elor, a 20-year-old out of a community college in California, won gold Tuesday.

"It's very satisfying to see the growth that (women's wrestling) has had and how our younger generation is stepping forward and really how our veterans are just leading and mentoring along the way," said USA Wrestling's women's national coach Terry Steiner, speaking at the Team USA Media Summit in April. "You have a person like Sarah (Hildebrandt), who is in the practice room, helping those younger people. It's inspiring to see it on both ends. I couldn't be happier to be a part of it."

The ages of the four American medalists ranged by more than a decade, underscoring the progress made in developing younger talent in the U.S.

"It's just so cool to see that whole spectrum," Maroulis said. "I think that shows that we're growing and things are just getting better."

Success on the Olympic stage, Hildebrandt said, will only help elevate the sport's status. This, in turn, could help further its growth at the college level. If there's one major area of opportunity for growth, Maroulis said it's at the Division I level. Only four Division I schools — Iowa, Presbyterian, Sacred Heart and Lindenwood — reported sponsoring the sport in the 2023-24 academic year.

"I just can't even imagine what it will be like when we have (more Division I schools)," Maroulis said. "There's going to be more opportunity. There's going to be scholarships."

There will be a path. One that might lead to the U.S. becoming an Olympic power in women's wrestling in the near future. One that trailblazers like Maroulis and Hildebrandt helped pave.

"You're seeing more and more people start to believe in themselves, that they can do this and step on the mat, and these gold medals kind of just feed all of that. It's such an honor to be a part of that," Hildebrandt said. "I just think more and more women are going to be involved in the sport. There will be more opportunities, more support, and it will just feed the success of American women's wrestling."

"There were a lot of women that came before me that made a way. There are women that never got an Olympic dream, but because they were on the mat, they made it so that women's wrestling would get added to the Olympics," Maroulis added. "So to be continuing that and having the baton get passed, it's been an honor. I'm super excited to pass that baton on. You see these young girls now on these Olympic teams, like Amit and Kennedy, so it's been passed to them. And they're going to do great things with it."

Jameis Winston Explains Motivation Behind Memorable Browns Pregame Speech

The Cleveland Browns are already getting the full Jameis Winston experience since he joined the team this offseason on a one-year deal. The veteran quarterback has made quite the name for himself as a motivational speaker over the course of his nine-year career.

Just last week he used a nursery rhyme to describe starting QB Deshaun Watson's greatness . Then he delivered a pre-game speech for the ages ahead of Cleveland's preseason opener with the Packers on Saturday.

Another all-time pregame speech from Jameis Winston 🔥 @Jaboowins pic.twitter.com/dle0Dy0Jvs — NFL (@NFL) August 10, 2024

During an appearance on the Pat McAfee show on Thursday, Winston explained the motivations behind his inspiring speeches.

"I just feel like I do whatever is required, ultimately" Winston said. "My biggest obligation right now is on Sunday, when we're out there playing and working together as a team and millions of people get to see my light, get to see my light shine. Me and my boys sing "This Little Light of Mine" every night before we got to sleep. That's my prerogative. I'm a man of increase. I'm a man that's always trying to uplift via optimistic and encourage others."

His NFL experience has been a unique one. Drafted No. 1 overall in 2015 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers , the Florida State product was touted as the next great NFL QB. There were some moments for Winston, like his 5,000-yard 33 touchdown and 30 interception season in 2019, but after numerous ups and downs and injuries, Winston found himself leaving the organization to be a backup with the Saints in 2020.

After three seasons in and out of the starting job in New Orleans Winston has embraced being a backup. In his eyes, he still has an important role to play with his teammates.

You ALWAYS have good vibes @Jaboowins #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/yrwEzbpvFX — Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) August 15, 2024

"That's a big part of being a quarterback," Winston added with McAfee. "Since I've been in this backup role I've been in a few years I've used that as just a platform to show guys no matter what role you're n you can still be uplifting, you can still lift your teammates up, you can still have that energy and come to work everyday ready to go."

It's not even the regular season and Winston has already delivered a handful of viral moments to Browns fans. There's likely to be plenty more where those came from.
