UPPSC PCS Previous Question Papers

Further, the UPPSC PCS Prelims Exam will be having 2 compulsory papers and will be conducted for 400 marks (200 for each paper) with a time duration of 2 hrs for each paper. and UPPSC PCS Mains Exam will be having questions from General Hindi, Essay, and General Studies (6 Papers). It has to be noted by the candidates that Mains exam paper type will be conventional. And there will be negative marking in prelims exam, so prepare carefully for the exam.

UPPSC PCS Previous Question Papers – Details

UPPSC PCS Exam Pattern

Uppcs prelims exam pattern.

Both the papers shall be objective multiple choice questions in which there shall be 150 questions in Paper 1 and 100 questions in paper 2 respectively.

Marking Scheme

Negative Marking – one-third (0.33) of the marks will be deducted in case of wrong answer.

• Paper-II of the Preliminary Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.
• It is mandatory for the Candidates to appear in both the papers of Preliminary Examination for the purpose of evaluation. Therefore a candidate will be disqualified in case he does not appear in both in papers.
• The merit of the Candidates will be determined on the basis of marks obtained in Paper-I of the Preliminary Examination.

UPPCS Mains Exam Pattern

The Written examination will consist of the following compulsory and optional subjects. The candidates have to select any one subject from the list of optional subjects for the main examination which will consist of two papers.

Note:   All Papers Shall be Conventional type and for solving the questions three hours time is allowed. Two hundred maximum marks has been allotted for each General Studies question paper.

UPPSC PCS Exam Analysis 2021 | Detailed Section wise Analysis

UPPSC PCS Exam Analysis Prelims 2021 – Preliminary examinations for the UPPSC PCS 2021 test were conducted in two shifts on 24th October 2021. The first paper (GS 1) of the UP PCS 2021 Prelims was conducted between 9:30 and 11:30 AM on the first shift. The second Paper (CSAT) of UPPSC Prelims 2021 was conducted today between 2:30 and 4:30 in the second shift. The GS Paper 1 of the UP PCS prelims 2021 showed that the difficulty level was moderate overall for the prelims 2021. The question paper contained several factual questions that were doable. Candidates should be aware that the cut-off for UP PCS Pre 2021 is determined by the scores they achieve in GS Paper 1. Candidates must achieve only the minimum qualifying marks, which are 1/3rd of the total (66.67 marks) in GS paper 2.

UPPSC PCS Prelims Exam Analysis 2021 (GS Paper I)

The following article is a detailed analysis of the UPPSC PCS Prelims 2021 Examination, held by the commission on 24th October 2021. In general, the question paper did not exhibit any unexpected changes this year. The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of the number of questions asked under various sections/ subjects, as well as the level of difficulty in the upcoming UPPSC PCS Preliminary 2021 Examination.

UPPSC Prelims 2021 Analysis

Above given is the subject-wise division of the UPPSC PCS 2021. Now, let us understand the subject-wise difficulty level by carefully analysing the type of questions asked.

UP PCS Prelims Detailed Analysis 2021

Indian polity.

UPPSC Exam Analysis 2021 polity: The questions from this section were easy to moderate. If your concepts are clear, you would find many easy questions like amendments, preamble  etc. However, the paper also consisted of some moderate but doable questions like the questions on Public Accounts Committee, Kesavananda Bharti case etc.

Environment

In this section, the questions were easy. There were easy questions in the paper about fly ash, blue baby syndrome, and air pollution indicators. Candidates should have marked the right answers to these questions.

There were a lot of difficult questions in this section. Those who are well-versed in the conventional areas have marked most of the right answers. Albedo, lakes, ringlemann scale, and agroforestry questions were moderately difficult.

This section’s questions ranged from moderate to difficult. This section has more questions from ancient and modern history, and fewer from medieval history. In regards to modern history, questions were posed from Vaikom Satyagraha, Dharsana Satyagraha. The UPPSC used a similar pattern to ask chronological questions and match the type of questions answered in this section.  They were questions of the ‘either you know or you don’t’ type, and so can be considered moderate in nature.

Science & Technology

In this section, the questions were moderate. Among the questions asked were Botulism, disease, vitamin deficiency, and others relating to biology. Students were asked questions about vector quantities, radioactivity, and light diffusion. The section was moderately difficult, yet doable.

This section had easy questions to moderate. Inflation and economic growth questions were included. The questions in this section were mostly from current affairs and were more dynamic. Most of the questions in this section were manageable and not too difficult.

Current Affairs

Quite a number of questions came from current affairs, an excessive amount from the state. They spanned over an entire year. Among the questions were visits, the sensex, books, and the new schemes. There were also questions on State budgets and Union budgets that could be considered difficult.

Overall UPPSC PCS Prelims 2021 Exam level was Medium to Moderate. Candidate must correct 100-105 Questions in General Studies Paper-I to clear the Exam. Only  33 % of marks  are required in Paper-2 to qualify for the exam.

What is PCS Officer? PCS Exam Eligibility, Paper Pattern, and Syllab

PCS stands for Provincial Civil Service, which is one of the state services in India. Different states have different PCS services and recruitment systems. For example, UPPSC ( Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission)  conducts the PCS examination of Uttar Pradesh. It comes under Group A and Group B of the executive branch of the government of different states.

How to be a PCS Officer?

PCS Exam Eligibility

• The candidate should hold the citizenship of India.
• Candidates must possess the domicile of the state of the respective PCS exam, i.e., you must have the domicile of UP for the UPPSC, and the domicile of Haryana for HPSC.
• Candidates must be a graduate. Other than this, he or she can also be a Post Graduate/Diploma or equivalent from a recognized university.
• The minimum and maximum age are 21 years-40 years.
• Candidates from some reserved categories may have age relaxations.

PCS Exam Pattern

• Uttar Pradesh PCS Preliminary Exam Pattern: It is the first stage of the UPPSC paper. It consists of two question papers where the questions are objective. It also involves the negative marking of 1/3rd marks for every incorrect answer.

UP PCS Main Exam Pattern: It is a written exam of 1500 questions. Unlike the previous stage, the mains examination consists of eight different papers, namely:

• Four General Studies papers each of 200 marks
• Two optional papers of 200 marks each
• One general Hindi paper of 150 marks
• One essay paper of 150 marks
• Interview: Like the UPSC examination, UPPSC also has the interview as the last stage of the examination. The qualified candidates of the mains examination are allowed to sit for the interview. The interview stage is not based on a prescribed syllabus and is prepared by the candidate on their own.

• Environmental Ecology, Climate Change, and Biodiversity

UPPSC Prelims Syllabus: Paper 2

• Comprehension
• Interpersonal skills (including communication skills)
• Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability
• Decision Making and Problem Solving
• General Mental Ability
• Elementary Maths (class X level – Algebra, Statistics, Geometry, and Arithmetic)
• English (class X level)
• Hindi (class X level)

Mains Paper Syllabus

The paper-wise official UPPSC syllabus is given below.

Paper-II: Essay Paper Syllabus

In the essay paper, you have three essays of 700 words each. The paper has three sections out of which at least one essay has to be attempted. The section-wise syllabus is as follows:

• Section A:  Literature and Culture; Political Sphere; Social Sphere.
• Section B:  Economic Sphere; Agriculture, Industry, and Trade, Science, Environment, and Technology;
• Section C:  International and national Events; Natural Calamities, Landslide, Earthquake, Deluge, Drought, etc.; National Development Programmes and Projects.

General Studies I (Paper III):

• Modern Indian history (from A.D.1757 to A.D. 1947)
• The freedom struggle
• History of Indian culture, art forms, literature, and architecture from ancient to modern times.
• Post-independence (till 1965A.D.).
• History of the world (events from the 18th century to the middle of the 20th century)
• Indian culture and society
• Role of women in the society and women’s organization
• Liberalization, privatization, and globalization
• Social empowerment, regionalism, secularism, communalism.
• Distribution of major natural resources
• Physical Geography- ocean currents, earthquake, tsunami, volcanic activity, cyclone, winds, and glaciers.
• Oceanic resources of India and their potential.
• The human migration-refugee problem of the world
• Frontiers and boundaries concerning the Indian sub-continent.
• Population and settlements
• Specific knowledge of states – history, culture, art, architecture, festival, folk-dance, literature, regional languages, heritage, social customs, and tourism.
• Specific knowledge of the states.- geography- human and natural resources,  soils, climate, forest, wildlife, mines, sources of irrigation.

General Studies II Syllabus (Paper-IV):

• The Constitution of India
• Functions and responsibilities of the union and states
• Finance commission’s role in centre-state financial relations.
• Dispute redressal mechanisms, separation of powers, and institutions.
• Comparison of the Indian constitutional scheme with major democratic nations.
• Parliament and state legislatures
• Structure, organization, and the functioning of the executive and the judiciary
• Representation of people’s act.
• Appointment to various posts of the constitution, powers, functions, and their responsibilities.
• Statutory and regulatory bodies, along with various quasi-judicial bodies like NITI Aayog.
• Government policies and interventions for development in multiple sectors Technology (ICT).
• Development processes like the role of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and Self Help Groups (SHGs)

• In the GGI-2021, the ranking has been given by dividing the states and union territories into four categories - Group A, Group B, North Eastern and Hill States, Union Territories . 58 indicators from 10 sectors have been considered for preparing GGI-2021.
• Uttarakhand has secured the third rank in the category of North-East and Hill states with a score of 4.842 in the overall ranking of the Good Governance Index.
• This year's score has decreased by 0.5 percent as compared to the previous index (2019) of Uttarakhand. Last time its score was 4.87, which has now come down to 4.84.
• Uttarakhand has basically made reforms in agriculture and allied sector, public health sector and judicial and public security sector.
