A New Christmas Skit for Summer!
Christmas on the Beach!
A new summer Christmas play for Youth! A fun, evangelical outreach for pre-teens and teens, which can be done at Summer Camp by the Camp Counselors or by a group of older kids. Great around a campfire or next to a pool... or actually on a Beach! (Send me photos!)
This Christmas in July sort of play takes place on a beach, where Fred and Ed, our narrators, tell the Christmas Story and involve everyone on the Beach as characters in the well-known play. Laugh as the actors turn everyday beach stuff into costumes and props for the impromptu performance about the Birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ .
This sometimes irreverent, tongue-in-cheek version of the Christmas play is meant for an audience of children over age 8 , so camp age would be about right.
Enjoy Christmas all year long with Christmas on the Beach!
QUOTE from Play : "And so ends the Christmas Story. As true here on the beach as it was that first time in Bethlehem. As certain in July as it ever is in December. As sure now as it will be forever."

Christmas Skit - "New Star"
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. Psalm 19:1-4
"NEW STAR" is a Christmas play for children and teens. It tells the Christmas Story from the point of view of two stars (an Old Star and a New Star) who act as the narrators. Adults and children will love this play. It has its own original song as well!
The NEW SONG "There's a New Star in the Sky" incorporates in its score part of the traditional song "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" which is so often sung at Christmas by our younger choirs. This song is great for elementary age students to sing! Enjoy!

Synopses of these Christmas Skits...
A christmas to believe in.
This is one of our funny Christmas skits for teens! It's both challenging and fun for youth to perform for their families! Throw in a few props, some costumes, and a couple of Children's Choirs, and you've got yourself a full-fledged Christmas Pageant!
Choose this 15-20 minute skit if you have a group of teens with some acting experience and a love of grease paint! Evangelical in nature, this play would be great for family friends to see and appreciate, especially if they aren't sure whether they believe in Christmas or not!
SYNOPSIS: Narrators 1 & 2 tell the traditional Christmas story while costumed performers act it out onstage. Narrator #2 admits, at the beginning, that he is not sure he believes it all. (He had believed in Santa Claus... and you know what happened there!)
Narrator #1 agrees to tell him the story, to see if he will believe it. “But” he warns “whether you believe it or not… it’s still true." Of course, the good thing is that... "Since it’s true, no one can ever take it away from you!”
The Narrators take turns reading the script and occasionally interact with the actors onstage. Mary, in particular, speaks several times with Narrator #2, asking him if he believes yet. Narrator #2 becomes more engaged with the story as it continues, wondering what will happen to Mary and to the baby Jesus. At the end, he is convinced that the story is true and finds that it really is “A Christmas to Believe In!”
This play is now available in Spanish, thanks to our translator Heidi Vasquez . Check out "A Christmas to Believe In! - Spanish Version"
NEW STAR is one of our exciting NEW Christmas Skits that tells the traditional Christmas Story from the point of view of two stars. Students ages 7-12 years will enjoy performing this play!
Acting as Narrators, an Old Star tells a younger New Star all about the First Christmas. Other children act out the parts of the Christmas Story as it unfolds.
Eventually it is revealed that Old Star was the original Christmas Star , which shone on the night that Jesus was born, and that it was his light that led the Wise Men to find Baby Jesus.
Along with New Star, we learn that Jesus Christ is the true reason we celebrate Christmas!
Song suggestions are made throughout the play, which may be included as you like. An original song accompanies the play and is called "There's a New Star in the Sky." (Click here for the score.)
This song incorporates part of the traditional song "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and gives us a lovely new version of this beloved old song.
I wrote the original music and lyrics. I am grateful to God for giving them to me. I hope that they will bless you during your performances.
My special thanks to Nathan James Larsen who arranged the song for piano and guitar and who performed the demo . You can find out more about Nathan and hear some of his great original music on Sound Cloud at Pop Revolution .
A NIGHT IN BETHLEHEM!
"What would it have been like? ...On that night all those years ago, on the other side of the world, in a little town called Bethlehem?" With these words the actress playing Mary introduces this Christmas skit and invites the audience to travel back with her to... A Night in Bethlehem!
The actors surprise the audience, first by introducing themselves as persons who are playing a part and next, by using contemporary talk to describe what they saw and heard on that First Christmas.
Written with teenagers in mind, this 15-20 minute Christmas skit is at once fast-paced and engaging. Mary is sweet, Joseph is bold, and the Innkeeper insists that he's the "hero" of the story. The Shepherds are the funniest group of sheep-herders you'll ever see, and the Wise Men admit up-front that they're all on the High Honor Rolls at their various schools.
Family members and friends will love seeing their teens in costume telling the Christmas Story from a "first hand" point of view. They'll also enjoy getting to sing along with familiar Christmas carols! In the end, everyone will agree that they had a wonderful time experiencing "A Night in Bethlehem!"
CHRISTMAS BY THE BOOK!
Taken directly from the pages of the Bible, this is one of our Christmas Skits for Youth that is at once informative and a lot of fun to do! It tells the Christmas Story, as brought to life through the words of the Gospel writers, Matthew and Luke.
Choose this skit if you are looking for a straightforward presentation of the Christmas Story. The skit runs 15-20 minutes long by itself, but add some of the optional songs and Christmas by The Book may be transformed into a beautiful and meaningful Christmas Pageant!
SYNOPSIS: Three Narrators begin the skit with words from the Old Testament prophesying the Messiah’s birth, then move into the Gospel accounts by Matthew and Luke showing the fulfillment of the prophecies in the birth of Jesus! Actors and actresses portray the parts of Mary, Joseph, Elizabeth, and Gabriel… as well as all of those shepherds and wise men!
Audiences will love the simplicity and the majesty of the Annunciation, and will thrill at hearing the words of Elizabeth and Mary as they declare the goodness of the LORD. The Christmas Story continues with visits from angels, shepherds, and wise men, and ends with Mary and Joseph finding themselves back in Nazareth raising Jesus.
The skit concludes by making the connection between the Old Testament prophecies of the Messiah, who was to save His people from their sins, and their New Testament fulfillment in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It also reminds us that this timeless story is still there in the pages of the Bible, where any of us may read... "Christmas by The Book!"
JUST A LITTLE CHRISTMAS! Three Christmas Skits for you to choose from!
Three versions of " Just A Little Christmas " are available, including one for elementary-aged children, one for Youth (to do for younger children) and a simpler version, which may work best if you have less time to prepare.
Just a Little Christmas! - Children's Version
Just a Little Christmas! - Teen Version
Just a Little Christmas - Simplified Version
This has been a favorite Christmas Skit with both children and parents for years! It comes in three versions: the Children's Version for younger children to put on for their parents, the Teen Version for Youth to put on for their families, and the Simplified Version which will help groups with little time to practice present the Christmas Story in all its beauty. Together these make up some of my favorite Christmas skits!
The Children's Version is very sweet and childlike, complete with lots of shepherds and angels. Your younger actors will find the lines simple and the stage directions straightforward. (10-15 minutes)
The Shortened Version is written in simple straightforward language, but tells the Christmas Story in its entirety. It is easy to produce, which may help those without much time for rehearsal. It combines Scripture Readings and lots of Songs to help tell the Christmas Story. (10-15 minutes)
The Teen Version is a bit snappier, a bit saucier, and has significantly more laugh lines! In addition, the members of your Youth Group will be kept on their toes with innovative stage directions. (10-15 minutes)
REVIEWS - Just a Little Christmas
“I wanted to tell you how wonderful your skit "Just a Little Christmas" turned out for our Christmas program. I had scoured lots of books for an appropriate program and after lots of worry and prayer found your site by accident. What divine intervention. The program worked so well in its adaptability and the parents and kids loved it. Thank you for making my Christmas merry. I am positive I will continue to use your site in my future endeavors. Thank you, Thank you!" - Kaye R. (Tennessee)
“I just want to thank you for providing free skits online for churches. It can be hard to find good material that is simple enough to use and yet is good . We used "Just a Little Christmas" for our Children's Sunday School presentation... and, seriously, I keep hearing about it. The congregation loved it. It was a great, yet simple way, to involve our Sunday School without overwhelming them with lines and tons of practices .
They did so great and were excited to be involved.
Thank you for helping us out and blessing us this Christmas!”
- Pastor Dave W. (Canada)
“My third grade students (at an international Christian school) performed your skit entitled "Just A Little Christmas" for our parents and elementary friends last Christmas in three separate chapels. It was a hit all three times! Our class loved it as well and really put their hearts into it. Because of the humorous parts, the students stayed engaged in the story. The language was simple enough and repeated through narration and character parts so that it could be heard well. These are especially important considerations for international/second language learners. After the second performance I spoke and our chaplain interpreted giving the plan of salvation in English and in Japanese. Thank you for your skit. I know that it blessed many.” - Elizabeth A. (Japan)
The Children's Version... Just a Little Christmas!
Written originally for elementary-aged children, the Children's Version of Just a Little Christmas is the best of the best!
Lines are just big enough for young ones to master in a short time. Narrators do the "heavy lifting" and are an integral part of the fun! Stage direction is given with young ones in mind. There won't be a lot of complex moving around for the children to worry about.
While this Christmas Skit is lighthearted and fun to do, it is also filled with clear Biblical references and interesting facts. Did you know, for example, that Bethlehem is called the City of David because King David was born there? The children will LEARN this and more as they perform JUST A LITTLE CHRISTMAS (Children's Version).
The skit runs 10-15 minutes (without songs) and can involve as few as 12 or as many as 25 children. (You can never have too many shepherds or angels!) Breaks are indicated in which Christmas carols may be sung by a Children's Choir and/or the congregation!
Family members will be delighted to see their child onstage and in costume as they help to portray the story of our Lord Jesus' birth!
The Simplified Version... Just a Little Christmas!
While the other versions (children's and teen's) of Just a Little Christmas lend themselves to a full-scale production with lots of time to prepare, the Simplified Version of Just a Little Christmas is perfect for other settings. Let's say you want to do a Christmas Skit with the children in your group, but you don't have a lot of time to practice. This skit can be done with just a few short days of preparation.
Or, perhaps you work with a diverse international group, for which English is not the primary language spoken at home. This skit uses simple language to tell the Christmas Story in a straightforward way. Using this skit, children from various language backgrounds can more easily work together to tell others about the birth of Jesus.
This skit is quick, simple, and easy to do . The Narrators read the lines for the skit, which tells the Christmas Story in its entirety. The other cast members act out parts of the story as it unfolds.
At various points, Scripture verses are read aloud , affirming the Christmas Story with the Bible Verses read.
There is lots of singing with this version. Use the suggested songs or substitute your own favorites.
My good friend, Susan, wrote this revised and simplified version of the original skit, Just a Little Christmas . She wrote it for a group of international students for whom English was not their primary language.
The results were lovely. The children were able to present the Christmas Story to the church congregation in their annual Christmas celebration. Everyone there was blessed by the experience. I hope that you will be too.
The Teen Version... Just a Little Christmas!
This quick witted and fast-paced telling of the traditional Christmas story will have your Youth Group members auditioning for parts! (Especially for the Angel... What a hoot!)
The Teen Version of Just a Little Christmas , written specifically for young teens to perform for younger audiences, makes it the perfect centerpiece for your church's Christmas Program!
Invite the Children's Choirs to sing... Provide some punch and fresh baked cookies... and you've got it made!
The skit runs 10-15 minutes (without songs) and requires the acting talent of about a dozen Youth Group members. Breaks are indicated in the script for the inclusion of Christmas carols. These may involve "choirs" made up of children from younger classes, or just be a sing-along with the congregation.
Having seen Just a Little Christmas performed successfully on several occasions, I can assure you that this traditional Christmas skit (with a not so traditional angel) is going to be fun to do and fun to watch!
Teenage children will enjoy the opportunity of providing this presentation of the true Christmas story for the younger children in your congregation!
This is one of our favorite and most popular Christmas Skits!
Nativity Story for Preschool... Simply Christmas!
A woman, a baby, a star and a manger. What does it all mean? Where is Bethlehem? Who was Joseph? And... WHAT is a manger?
Children ages 3-7 will be allowed to explore the answers to these questions, as they act out the Nativity Story for Preschoolers - Simply Christmas.
This skit is meant to help very young children learn about the true meaning of Christmas. Completely narrated by an adult, the children become part of a living Nativity as they portray Mary, Joseph, the shepherds and kings.
Preschoolers and Kindergarten age children will enjoy doing this short Christmas skit (5-10 minutes) over and over again, while they try out the various parts. (This makes it really fun to do in class as a learning exercise. For more fun, invite families to the classroom to watch a performance!)
Suggestions for simple costumes and props are included with the script.
Moving about in the comfort of their classroom, the children will learn all about the Christmas story. But most of all they learn about the Love of God, who sent His Son, Jesus, to be our SAVIOR!
You'll almost hear the angels singing!
NEW! Check out this marvelous video produced by the Epikos Church in Milwaukee based on the narrated nativity, " Simply Christmas ."
"The Nativity" by Mark Main

It is a wonderful Christmas Skit called The Nativity and it is written for all ages to perform. You are welcome to use it for free in your ministry.

A Note on Script Usage and Changes...
So, you need a few more angels or a couple of extra shepherds to get everyone onstage... No problem! Happens all the time! My advice... add away... go ahead... drag out a few more halos and some extra shepherds' crooks. You should also feel free to change lines, add lines, etc to accommodate the size of your group and the ages and capacities of your actors. These are all considered minor changes. As always, please make a note on your printed program of the author's name and the copyright date. (EX: By Sharon Kay Chatwell, copyright 2023.)
However, if you have MAJOR changes that you want to make to a skit or play, then please make a note in your printed program that your skit is " Based on the original skit by Sharon Kay Chatwell, copyright 2023." (etc...) Thanks!
For more details on script usage, please see our official USE POLICY .

47 Cute Easy Holiday Activities for Toddlers (2 Year Olds, 3 & 4 Year Olds) to Try This Christmas
- Last Updated: October 19, 2020
By Sarah Peerless
Looking for some easy holiday activities for your toddler this Christmas? I cannot wait to get cracking on all things Christmas! And finally, now we’ve hit December, it doesn’t seem all that far away.
Hooray says the world! Just me?!
You need some easy toddler Christmas activities to do at home, to keep your little ones out of mischief, right? And give you a moment to get on with the never-ending list of things to do, that is, just… life with little kids.
You need fun Christmas-themed toddler activities to keep them occupied for more than a nanosecond, right?! Fine motor Christmas activities, simple games and easy learning activities. Some easy no-prep winter activities to do indoors this holiday season.
Plus some minimal mess Christmas sensory play.
All with materials you have at home or are easy to get hold of.
You’ve come to the right place!
Table of Contents
These are Christmas-themed learning activities
Kids learn best through play. In fact, whatever they’re playing with or whatever make-believe world they’re lost in, is their way of figuring out how the world works. .
Quite simply, all the things they do are things they actually need to do.
What kinds of activities do toddlers love to do?
Toddlers love love to stack, sort, pour and scoop, rip, throw, cut (if they’ve started using scissors), throw, touch ALL the things, stand on ALL the things, post, pack and unpack, open and shut things…
And all of these are teaching your toddler how something works. Or allowing them to learn and practice a skill.
Touch and put their fingers in the flour? They’re learning about the texture, weight, density of flour.
How quickly it falls, how much fits in their hands and so on.
This list of easy Christmas activities for toddlers ticks a lot of those boxes. And so, to it.
Simple Christmas activities for toddlers
For supplies and materials for these festive activities check out our recommended product list.
#1 Pushpin Christmas tree decorating
Such an easy Christmas activity for toddlers to get started with.
Cardboard, the ability to draw a Christmas tree and some pushpins are the main ingredients here. Then all you need is something underneath, so those pushpins don’t go through to the table.
I stapled a rectangle of cardboard to an egg carton tray which worked really well. Otherwise, a few extra layers of cardboard would do.
A pinboard would obviously work well too – then leave that cute decorated Christmas tree up for the festive season.
#2 Color-in 3d paper Christmas ornament templates
A bit of coloring in, then once done, cut, fold and stick to make a cute Christmas ornament .
Or skip the coloring altogether and choose the Christmas animals ornament templates for an even simpler toddler activity.
Click here for the free 3d Christmas paper ornament template .
#3 Old wrapping paper ripping or cutting
Here, you’re just giving your little one permission to do what they love to do – make a mess!
So dig out those odds and ends of wrapping paper. We always save every scrap of wrapping paper – a tradition handed down from my dear father, which means this is toddler Christmas activity that isn’t as wasteful as it sounds.
Then let them go to town, ripping or cutting.
#4 Make a festive bracelet
This is an easy no-prep Christmas activity that also helps your toddler hone those fine motor skills; threading red, green and sparkly beads and some mini bells onto a pipe cleaner.
My daughter also decided the one above needed a big black button. Each to their own.
(Pretty as that one is, I don’t recommend using the sparkly pipe cleaners as they’re very itchy… rather go for the normal soft ones.)
#5 Build Christmas trees (or other random things) with a tinker tray
Hands up if you have a preschooler that loves to build? My 4 year old builds stuff out of everything and anything so building little Christmas trees with pipe cleaners, sticks and mini bells will be right up his street.
I can’t wait to see what he comes up with. (In all likelihood he’ll build a truck, but as long as he’s enjoying that’s fine with me…)
#6 Christmas window decorations
This Christmas activity for toddlers will (hopefully) result in a cute decoration.
It does require a tiny more prep but since these will become part of your Christmas decor, they should be worth the effort.
Contact paper, some construction paper or card (for the outlines) and some fun bits and bobs to stick inside is all you need.
#7 Christmas tree name puzzle
A fun and simple Christmas activity for toddlers and preschoolers with a few different elements of learning.
I love that this one takes less than 2 minutes to prep. I also really like that you can make this is easy or complicated as you like, easily adapting it for the age of your child.
For young toddlers just starting out with scissors, draw straight lines for them to cut along; for preschoolers, you can draw some wiggly lines and zigzags. Then write their name on, one letter per puzzle piece.
Even if your child hasn’t started on letters, exposure to those in their name can be a fun place to start. Mixing the pieces up and putting the puzzle back together is the final element.
If you do this with more than one kid, make it harder by mixing all the puzzles up for them to sort and piece each puzzle back together.
#8 Christmas cookie cutter matching
A fun Christmas activity for toddlersthat practices the pre-maths skill of matching.
Simply draw around some Christmas cookies onto a giant-sized piece of paper (or several smaller ones) and have your toddler or preschooler match the cookie cutters to the correct place. Easy peasy!
#9 Christmas tree string art
This Christmas activity for toddlers definitely needs a fair amount of help and adult supervision. My 3-year-old is going to love hammering in the nails so I’m sold already.
#10 Make & decorate Santa’s postbox
I could have gone to town on this one and finished with a beautiful post box that looked like a Snowman or Santa but this was the almost zero-prep version.
All you need to get started is a large empty cardboard box. Create an opening for letters and add some text. My 2 and 3 years old had a blast painting and stamping it.
As you can see it was a hot Christmas that year for us (at home in rural Africa) so I let my two get to work with paint outside.
If you’re indoors and you want to avoid mess, sharpies, stickers and any other craft materials will keep your little ones busy just as well.
#11 Write letters to Santa (with free templates)
Of course, Santa’s post box can only mean one thing – you need to send him some letters! So this is next on this list of easy Christmas activities for your toddler or preschooler.
Sending letters to Santa is also a fun Christmas tradition ; these letters make great keepsakes.
As toddlers, my two “drew” (ie scribbled) a picture of their gift of choice and I wrote underneath, just in case Santa didn’t understand. (Code for: when Mommy looks back in 5 years time I’m pretty sure I won’t remember what that’s meant to be!)
UPDATE: now my toddler and preschooler are that much older (5 and 6) and able to write simple sentences I’ve created a Santa letter template for this year which should make for some fun reading!
I can’t wait to see what they’re going to write where it says: I’ve been working really hard and I’m proud of myself because:….”
Click right here to get the free printables with three different letter writing options dependent on the age of your child.
Or grab the full Santa Letter Kit, complete with:
- A choice of 3 response letters from Santa, plus 1 blank if you’d rather write your own
- A choice of a “Nice List” or “Good List” certificates
- An envelope front with North Pole postmark
Click to grab the Santa Letter Kit here
Or get it free with the Christmas Activity Pack .
#12 Ice balloons
This Christmas activity for toddlers is definitely one for outside. If there’s snow on the ground so much the better! Just wrap those kids up warm if necessary because this one is going to chill the fingers.
#13 Winter magic milk experiment
This is another activity that fascinates kids way beyond preschooler years. It was actually my 9-year-old niece who did this experiment with my 3 and 4-year-old but I love this version from Mombrite which adds that festive element.
#14 Easy Christmas tree decorating
Toddlers or preschoolers plus stickers is always a winning combination. I think you can get the idea from the picture just how easy and engaging this Christmas activity is.
#15 Christmas lights sticker activity
Sticker line tracing is such a fun and simple toddler or preschooler activity and one of my go-tos when I need a no-prep activity. (Hence, it’s included on this list of mess-free activities for toddlers at home )
This one just has a festive spin; stick the lights on the tree is a must-do Christmas activity for toddlers or preschoolers.
#16 Bake and/or decorate some cookies
One where you use those cookie cutters for their intended purpose. But depending on how out of control your kids are when it comes to baking, you might want to skip that part and just decorate some store-bought cookies.
If you have little angels or are feeling brave, here’s a simple cookie recipe you can use with some Christmas cookie cutters. (I have the standard Christmas shapes but these pretty snowflake ones are my favorite).
#17 Festive potato stamping
This is a festive spin on age-old potato stamping. If you have some large enough paper and your toddler can show restraint around paint (sometimes my two absolutely cannot) this might turn out good enough for some gift wrap paper.
I’m crossing fingers for you!
#18 Pinecone posting
I didn’t really realize that “posting” was really a thing for toddlers until, of course, I had one. (And then two. And then two more…)
Posting is another thing they love to do which helps them to understand how the world works.
By posting pinecones (or balls, toys, stuffies or a billion other things) through the cardboard Christmas tree, your toddler will be figuring out “ object permanence ” – that something exists even if you can’t see it.
This is why toddlers love to drop things off their high chair. Repeatedly.
Pinecone posting will be endless fun for them (and hopefully a little less annoying than the highchair game…).
#19 Felt Christmas tree decorating
Get your toddler their very own Christmas tree to make a mess of decorate with an easy felt Christmas tree. Felt sticks to felt – so they can have endless fun sticking and re-sticking! Will have to try one of these this year I think.
#20 Pompom sorting eggbox Christmas tree
A simple Christmas activity for a toddler who loves to sort and color match. (Mine love both).
Skip the painting part and prep within that 5 minute window. Your little one will never know.
#21 Stuff a snowman (more posting)
With sparkly white pompoms or even cotton wool balls, a clear bottle and a few accessories you should have something that resembles a snowman.
Plus a toddler who’s had his fair share of posting!
Win and win.
Then a sprinkle of glitter to finish.
#22 Giant floor Christmas tree
I love this idea and cannot wait to try this Christmas activity this year.
Use some masking tape to outline the Christmas tree shape and then supply your toddler with shiny stars, buttons, bottle tops – whatever is going – to fill in and decorate the tree. Simple festive fun.
#23 Bottle top snowman posting
Ok, I admit, this one is a lot more than 5 minutes prep – the making of said snowman was a fun toddler Christmas craft – my 3-year-old loved it, particularly the ripping of the cotton wool and squeezing the glue…
This is just another version of the pinecone posting activity earlier. But this snowman has different sized holes – for mouth, eyes and button holes – for different sized bottle tops, so it ups the anti just a little bit.
I also intend to use this to practice number and letter recognition.
Label each hole on the snowman with a different number or letter marked on the post-tit and then write the same letters or numbers on bottle lids. Match and post.
#24 Christmas countdown candy cane
Which toddlers or preschoolers have a good concept of time? Neither of my two, that’s for sure. So some kind of countdown is necessary.
This one will help your preschooler on number recognition – killing two birds with one stone, can’t beat it!
#25 Make some festive paper chains
This is also a double win – keep those little hands busy and make some new Christmas decorations. Perfect for a toddler who loves to build and create (that’s my boy).
#26 Festive pompom sorting
More sorting and color matching, but this one just uses colored cups.
Up the anti for an older preschooler or dextrous toddler by getting them to use salad tongs or a range of different utensils to transfer the pompom into the cup. Excellent fine motor practice.
#27 Make reindeer food for Christmas eve
Leaving a plate of scrummy treats out for Santa on Christmas eve is an age-old Christmas tradition that my kids loved last year.
Sprinkling reindeer food on the lawn is a new activity that I’m sure my two (plus the birds) will enjoy.
So mixing up their food (oats, sprinkles and edible glitter) is an easy festive Christmas activity to add to the list.

#28 Felt squares & pompom Christmas tree
This is a cute and simple stacking activity for little ones. Cut squares of felt, slit the middle and then your toddler or preschooler can enjoy threading and stacking the squares onto a rainbow hoop stacking toy (or similar, maybe a kitchen roll holder?).
A good test for toddler to pick out the correct order of loads of different sized squares (my 4-year-old would love this).
Little ones may need help, if you do want to end up with the classic Christmas tree shape. But really, as long as they’re enjoying, what does it matter?
Pompom decorations and a fairy or star for the top of the tree finish it up nicely.
#29 Ornament toss
This one is better suited to the younger and gentler toddler or preschooler, which counts my 4 year old right out!
His throw is strong but very inaccurate! It’ll be a recipe for disaster to have him throwing anything inside.
(Hopefully, it goes without saying but only use plastic baubles!)
40+ easy activities handpicked for busy moms of kids aged 2 to 6 years – because Christmas needn’t be chaotic or cost a fortune!
Christmas sensory bins for toddlers
Not only do sensory bins keep kids ranging from 1 to, mmmm 9 or 10 years old, busy and occupied, but they’re also really good for them.
It’s amazing how nature aligns the activities kids enjoy with what they actually need for healthy development. Sensory bins and other sensory activities employ most or all the different senses.
Exploration of new textures, scooping, measuring, pouring can mean hours of fun for a toddler or preschooler.
Plus, with their crazily active imaginations, your toddler one can be lost in a world of make-believe for a surprising amount of time…
So here are some easy-to-set-up Christmas sensory bins.
(If your little one still loves to put everything in their mouth, choose carefully.)
#30 Christmas snow sensory bin
Baking soda and white conditioner (in the ratio of 6 parts to 1) is all you need to make this easy snow sensory bin.
Mixing the two together starts an endothermic reaction so the “snow” starts off icey cold. Sadly the chill won’t last forever but the soft fluffy texture will.
I’m pretty sure my two are going to love making snowmen out of this stuff. The addition of some colorful beads and pipe cleaners is all it needs.
#31 Christmas decorations sensory bin
This one is perfect for a day or two before you put up the decorations. Let your toddler play with all that sparkly tinsel and baubles (as long as they’re not glass, of course).
This kept my two busy for a long time last year – so much so the decorations did go up a bit later than normal but it was well worth a bit of extra peace and quiet for me!
#32 Christmas themed rice bin
Another fun texture that toddlers can’t get enough of is rice.
Rather than diving their grubby mitts into the rice you intend to eat, a sensory rice bin is the way forward. Add in some bells, sparkly ribbons and something to scoop and pour with, then let your little one get to work!
(To dye rice, simply add vinegar and food coloring to uncooked rice in a plastic container, leave for an hour or so giving a stir once or twice. More detail on dyeing rice here .)
#33 Sparkly ice sensory bin
Ice cubes are another favorite with most little kids it would seem. Since this is a Christmas activity for toddlers and it’s probably bitterly cold outside just a few ice cubes will do. No need to get those fingers colder than necessary!
You can just grab ice straight out the freezer, but if you have a bit of forethought, make glittery ice the night before: sprinkle some glitter into a jug of water before pouring into ice cube trays.
Some Christmas-themed ice cube trays would make this even more fun.
#34 Christmas gloop
Gloop, also called oobleck, is just cornflour and water mixed to the perfect sticky, gloopy consistency. A few drops of green and red food coloring and some other Christmassy things and you have a sticky sensory experience that your toddler is going to love.
It could get messy so your containment plan needs to be good!
#35 Waterbead Christmas tree sensory activity
Water beads are pure heaven for a little one – so there has to be a waterbed bin Christmas activity for toddlers in the list.
Once they’ve got over the delight of the pure slipperiness and squidginess, set up a Christmas tree-shaped framework for them to fill in with green waterbeads, with a few colored ones as decorations. Great fine motor fun!

Christmas playdough activities
I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with playdough. I love that my kids love it and it’s another sensory activity that benefits them in so many ways.
The thing is, they get so involved and love their creations so much they want to put them on display. Which turn into crusty and crumbly carcasses…
Ok, rant over.
But playdough has to be on the list of easy Christmas activities for toddlers, it’s too engaging and beneficial not to be!
For a winning playdough recipe, mix the following together, heat gently and stir until you have a lump of the stuff – dead simple. Even works when my 3 and 4-year-old are doing the measuring!
- flour – 2 cups
- salt – 1 cup
- cream of tartar – 4 tsp
- vegetable oil – 1 tbl
- food coloring – a few drops
#36 Christmas tree playdough shapes
Green playdough, a Christmas tree cookie cutter and some mini Christmas “ornaments” are all you need for this easy Christmas-themed playdough activity. Tons of fun and great fine motor practice.
For younger toddlers use bigger things as tree ornaments, such as pompoms or large buttons. Older toddlers will probably manage something smaller, like the Hama beads pictured.
#37 Make/buy Christmas-scented playdough
Use the playdough recipe above, minus the food coloring, then add the following to create the following color and scent combinations:
- Gingerbread: 1/2 tsp ground ginger, 1 tsp cinnamon & brown food coloring
- Peppermint: 1 tsp of peppermint extract & green food coloring
- Sugar Cookie: Vanilla extract
- Cinnamon: 1-2 tsp of cinnamon & red food coloring
Or buy some store-bought Christmas varieties.
#38 Festive nature prints
Pine cones, cinnamon sticks and even a short frond of a Christmas tree branch would make a lovely addition to this simple playdough printing activity.
Fun game-type Christmas activities for toddlers & preschoolers
These ones involve a bit more prep, mainly printing. But are good fun activities you can enjoy together as a family. And that’s what Christmas is all about, right?
#39 Christmas matching & memory game
Sorting and matching is a pre-math skill that little kids seem to get quite a kick out of once they get the idea.
Both mine have got to this stage of being quite orderly about things – lining things up that match, even tidying up their rooms with a surprising amount of logic. (It didn’t last, sadly!)
What I love about this is that it can also be used as a memory game.
Christmas Bingo Game from Maple Planners
#40 Christmas Bingo Game
A festive and toddler-friendly version of a classic game. My two loved a weather-themed bingo game we did recently so this is must-do Christmas activity to try this year.
#41 Wrapped puzzle piece scavenger
Christmas still an age away and your kids are dying to get unwrapping? This is a must-do Christmas activity for toddlers. Another one for that old Christmas gift wrap. Or newspaper will be fine too.
First, the puzzle pieces need to be wrapped. Dump out all the puzzle pieces and start wrapping. This can be a fun part of the activity. My 4 year old loved this part as much as the rest.
Next, go hide the pieces all around the house. Then the scavenging and unwrapping begins.
Finally, the unwrapped piece makes it home to his spot in the puzzle.
With my two, I divided the puzzles into two piles, then they got to wrap and hide the pieces for each other. It really was so much fun!
#42 Christmas scavenger hunt
A fun Christmas activity to get toddlers moving! Sometimes that’s exactly what they need. (Or maybe “most of the time” is more accurate.)
This pack from Organized 321 has 4 different scavenger hunts for indoors and another 4 for outdoors – time to get printing!
Printable quiet time Christmas activities for toddlers
All the below have free printables and are perfect Christmas activities for toddlers for when you’re out and about. E.g. when visiting family over the holidays.
#43 Christmas dot marker printable
This is a Christmas activity for toddlers who have lost the ability to entertain himself and you have negative 5 minutes to come up with something!
Enter an easy dot marker activity. Add this one to your printer queue now.
#44 Christmas printable activity pack
Easy Christmas-themed coloring activity for little ones, plus a maze.
#45 Free Christmas counting printable
Santa’s beard needs to be completed cotton ball by cotton ball. You could follow the numbers in sequence or have your little one roll the dice and find the number.
So great for number recognition and practicing number order. So this Christmas activity is geared a little more towards older toddlers.
But if you have a younger one, they can just stick anywhere. Hopefully, you’ll end up with a cute Santa craft too.
#46 Color & stick Christmas activities
Coloring printables with the added fun of sticking on Christmas tree decorations (colored pompoms), Santa’s beard (cotton wool balls) and holly berries (green pompoms).
Create gorgeous hand and footprint art with your little one
Help your kids write Santa a letter and receive a reply

A little about me.
Hi, I'm Sarah
Mom of four outrageously gorgeous Littles. Yup, four! The twins are now two and that title still brings me out in a cold sweat… Yet I’m just as determined to give them the best without losing my mind. I reckon it’s possible! Most days.
I love a challenge and have to find out they ‘why’, ‘what’ or ‘how to’ – there are rather a lot of these when it comes to kids…
I also love, love, love things to be neat and tidy and just so. The Littles normally have other ideas!

Setting Up the Christmas Theme in the Toddler and Preschool Classroom
December 6, 2018 by Sheryl Cooper
Last Updated on December 21, 2021 by Sheryl Cooper
Inside: We had so much fun with our toddler and preschool Christmas theme. Lots of playful learning and gift making. Lots of free printables are included in this post!
Our last theme before winter break is Christmas. In fact, the Christmas theme stretches for 2 weeks since there’s so much happening.
But even with the gifts and treats that we make for our families, I’ve also included some simple fun activities that help burn the excess energy that seems to happen around this time of year.
Come see how I’ve set up our toddler and preschool classroom!
And, as usual, I’ve provided all the printables that were used during these 2 weeks, absolutely free.
Scroll down to find the downloads!
Here are some of the activities that we enjoyed, categorized by center or activity:
With all the hustle and bustle that tends to happen over the holidays, young children feed off of it with excess energy.
I’m talking “I cannot sit still, do not expect me to sit still, can I jump and run please” type of energy.
I’ve learned long ago not to fight it.
Just not worth it.
So, one of my favorite art activities to do this time of year is painting on ice.
Now, we just happened to have ice shaped into Christmas trees, but you can use a plain container to freeze water.
You can read more about this activity here: Christmas Tree Ice Painting
Ice Painting for Kids
Gingerbread Ice Painting
Frozen Heart Art
Put the Lights on the Christmas Tree Card
This was a fun fine motor art activity! After helping me write a simple message inside the card, we attached them to our gift bags.
You can read more about it here.
Alphabet Ornaments
One of our last Christmas art activities was this super simple alphabet ornament. After making copies of the printable, I gave the children an ornament with the first letter of their names. They used dot markers and then I laminated them and punched a hole in the top. I attached them to the outside of our gift bags and they can then be used as an ornament. Fun, right?
👉 Scroll down to the free printables section to get the download.
Christmas Gifts
After we were finished creating all our Christmas art pieces, we wrapped them in our homemade gift bags . On the last day of school before winter break, the children took their bags home.
Circle Time
In addition to reading some fun Christmas books and singing Christmas songs during circle time , we also practiced pushing small envelopes into Santa’s mailbox. I purchased this last year at Home Depot and our toddlers and preschoolers love it!
After introducing it at circle time, I then placed it at our writing table along with assorted paper, cards, envelopes, stickers, stamps, and markers.
(Note: I checked Home Depot online and they no longer carry this product. But there are lots of similar mailboxes available, such as this one .)
Music and Movement
Check out our December playlist !
Blocks Center
We turned our train table into a Duplo compatible building table with some new self-stick base plates!
You can read more about it here: The Easiest Way to Convert Your Train Table into a Duplo Table
Dramatic Play
We placed a couple of artificial trees on top of the dramatic play shelf along with some colored lights. Christmas plates, stockings, slice and bake cookies , trays, and a mixer were available as an invitation for some pretend baking. Even our dollies were fed some of our Christmas food!
I love to use every part of our classroom, and that includes the windows! I found some Christmas vinyl clings that the children loved rearranging on our big window.
Table Activities
During our free-choice centers time , we use our big table for various skill-building activities.
In addition to the printable activities (scroll down to find download links), we loved our chunky Christmas tree puzzle , and we used our magnetic chalk board for sorting bows by color.

Jacinta (class of 2009)
Hellooo Jacinta! Its been a loooong time! Too funny! Hope you are keeping well. Merry Christmas. – Cashy
Thank you, Aivi! – Justin
To the people here replying “where are the scripts?!” and demanding personalized scripts: learn how to read and stop being miserable ungrateful misers. This guy went out of his way to provide a nice resource at his own expense, probably for little to no profit, and expects nothing in return. Instead, he’s thanked with snide comments from the lesser read. The fact he hasn’t responded with equal venom and rage is in and of itself a Christmas Miracle.
THANK YOU, JUSTIN, whoever and wherever you are for this site. My youth group appreciates it.
GEEZ calm down, they were just confused about where to go! I understand what you mean of how he worked hard but that does not mean to go off on a rant about these people. This is not a place of name calling, but you are being a total KAREN.
Thanks so much for this. It is really helpful. When you update it, including the time the play takes on the link would be helpful (where just one play). But it is really helpful. THANKS
Thus is for persons who are not baptised Christians as yet
May you please write and email me a play script about Nativity to be played by all primary school, from grade ooo- grade 6.
Your blog is absolutely amazing!!
I am a highschool teacher on a deadline to create a play for our Christmas Carol and your blog is “a sight for my sore eyes”.
Thank you and keep it up!!!!!
Justin, i dont like been redirected to other links . Just make your script easy to find if its really free. God bless.
Splendid, please take the time to read the post before you comment about it. There are no scripts of mine here. There are only a collection of external links to other websites. This is clearly stated in the introduction. You are not being “redirected” to other links – it is a suggested list of where to find some free Christmas play scripts on the web. Every website linked to has scripts on it. Try Google if you are not happy. But good luck, because trawling through Google for these is a nightmare. Hence the point of this post in the first place. God bless. Splendid!
Cant find the script, whats wrong?
Lmfao got it!!!
i love scripts so i have decied to try this
Justin, you’ve provided a great resource, thank you.

thanks and remain blessed
but that isnt true
you guys are wierd
Frank, I have updated the list of links in this post. Hopefully the new list of websites is a bit easier to follow than the previous one.
why it so difficult to access your free script it is definately too hard get is it ascam
I have been through all 21 websites linked to from this page and as far as I can see all links are working, O’Neil. If a useful website with Christmas play scripts disappeared from the web, I have found it in the Way Back Machine web archive. This may take a little longer to load in the browser and there may be the odd dead link there. Also, occasionally a website linked to from here can have their own external links which sometimes go dead. But as far as I can see, everything is working. Is it possible you are accidentally clicking Google Ad links (or similar) on the linked websites and not the REAL links to free Christmas play scripts? No scam here, O’Neill. Only quality 🙂
This is very difficult to follow
Where is the Script !!
Follow the links in the post above to the websites with play scripts.
thanks Justin xx
ware is the script

Christmas Service Ideas For Small Churches

The Holidays are commonly one of the busiest times of the year for first-time visitors or people who traditionally only attend church on Christmas and Easter. Why are people attracted to church at these times of the year?
Polls and surveys tell us the traditions of singing carols, seeing the decorations, and being with family are some of the top reasons. Others are motivated by a sense of obligation, even though they may have no personal relationship with Jesus.
As we understand these statistics, we should realize Christmas is one of the best times of year for our small churches to reach out to those who don’t usually attend and to make sure we are clearly sharing the message of Jesus and God’s love.
This Is Our Small Church Christmas Service
Most churches have some sort of traditional Holiday services, whether it be on the week before Christmas, Christmas Eve, or Christmas Day. The possibilities of what elements to include in your program are exciting to think about.
- Candlelight
- Children’s Program
- Christmas Choir
- Waiting & Expecting
- Readings & Monologues
Some churches use their children’s Christmas program as part of their service. Others host a traditional candlelight service. One church may opt for a choral and musical presentation. Another goes with an out-of-the-box service and offers something new. The key is to choose the service that best fits your small church.
Small Churches Share Their Best Ideas
As you read these programs that work for some of our small church members, be encouraged to step out on your own. Host a Christmas service that embodies the personality of your small church while sharing the message of Jesus’ birth with your community.
Pastor’s Family Gift Of Christmas Eve Service
Would you like to hear how a traditional Christmas Eve Service turns into a gift from the Pastor’s Family to the church? Linda Reynhout, her Pastor-husband Marty, and members of their extended family run the entire Christmas Eve service.
They do this so the volunteers can enjoy the service while seated with their families. They perform special readings, special musical numbers, and accompaniment for congregational singing. God blessed this family with the gift of music and worship, and they generously share this gift each Christmas.
If you are not musically gifted, worship acoustics and videos with lyrics are readily available online. You can add readings, prayers, and candle lighting to make a special evening your small church family might enjoy.
Include The Neighborhood In Your Christmas Program
The church Jeanie Foster attends combines their children’s Christmas program with an outreach flare. The kids in their Wednesday night program, most come from the apartment adjacent to the church, are the actors in this simple Nativity program. A congregant reads the Christmas story while the children re-enact it in costume.
If you have children in your programs with special needs, here are some great Tips To Include Children With Special Needs In Christmas Activities .
Parents and families are invited to attend and watch their kids. The church is packed! Jeanie tells us following the service, they serve a simple meal for everyone. This gives their church folks time to connect personally with the families of these children.
For added fun, set up a photo backdrop for families to capture a special memory.
Bring Passover To Your Small Church Christmas
Try this out-of-the-box thinking for a Christmas program. Amy Kass and her church invited Jews For Jesus to do a presentation about the Passover meal. It gives a very interesting perspective on God’s big plan of bringing Christ to this world to be our Messiah. It’s a very educational and enriching way to look at Christmas. They share the traditional Passover meal while celebrating the coming of the Messiah!
Christmas Candlelight Service Ideas In Small Churches
While thinking about what your small church would like to do, consider the area you live in. What are the traditions or special places your town loves at Christmastime? Is there a holiday gazebo or park everyone decorates? These could be great venues to offer carols and a Christmas message. Do some research and make some observations that could help your small church present a unique Christmas service!
- Adre Hurst’s small church hosts a Family Style Christmas Eve Service. They have a traditional candlelight service but provide age-appropriate candles (battery-operated and flameless). They also provide “Christmas bags” for the children that have activities and books along with Christmas fidgets as a special gift.
- Donna Pendley’s small church hosts a candle service with a bit of a twist. They involve their youth with a ‘live-silent nativity’ scene that comes together during the service. The message of the birth of Jesus is shared. The congregation participates with song and the service is closed out by singing, ‘Oh, Holy Night’. Following the service, they ask all the guests to stay for refreshments and fellowship. This is a simple and beautiful service tradition.

New England Church Celebrates Christmas Without Electricity
Becky Sargent shares about a small church in New England. Each Christmas Eve, they use a historic church in their town for their candlelight service. The building is normally only used for weddings and historical tours.
The church building has no electricity, so the candlelight is both beautiful and necessary! The pianist is skilled and able to play the old pump organ. The visiting church occasionally brings a guitarist and vocalists to add to the ambiance.
A small wood stove in the back of the church provides the only heat. (This church is in New England, so it’s chilly!). Every year, this church is packed with standing room only. The people in the community love the tradition and the ability to participate in something unique.
This small church capitalizes on the community’s desire to participate in a quaint Christmas tradition while being faithful to share the gospel message and the true joy of Christmas to all those who attend!
Celebrate & Shine Your Light For Jesus
We shared several ideas with you, and now it’s time for your small church to respond with your own celebration of the holidays! Whatever you choose to do, and however you choose to reach out to your community, do it with the light of Jesus shining brightly!
Isaiah 60:1 tells us “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.”
So, let’s get up and bring that light to a world full of darkness and no hope. This Christmas, bring them the only answer that can brighten lives and give them eternal hope, peace, and joy! To all of you who serve in small churches, we can’t wait to hear how you reach into your communities this Christmas season.
We love to share your stories to encourage others. Post your pictures in our Facebook Community, Creative Solutions for Small Churches . Oh yes, and Merry Christmas!

Toddler Christmas Crafts FAQs
Are these crafts suitable for all toddlers.
Yes, the crafts suggested are designed with toddlers in mind, considering safety and age-appropriate materials. However, always supervise and adapt activities based on your toddler’s individual capabilities.
How can I make crafting time educational for my toddler?
Incorporate learning elements such as colors, shapes, and counting into the crafting process. Use the opportunity to tell simple stories or introduce basic concepts related to the holiday season.
What if my toddler loses interest quickly during crafting?
Keep the activities short and engaging. If attention wanes, switch to a different craft or take a break. The goal is to make crafting an enjoyable experience for your toddler.
Are there any alternatives to traditional crafting materials?
Absolutely! Feel free to get creative with substitutions. For example, use colored fabric scraps instead of paper or explore natural materials like leaves and twigs for unique textures.
How do I store and preserve the crafted ornaments for future years?
Store ornaments in a cool, dry place to prevent damage. Consider wrapping delicate items in tissue paper or bubble wrap. Ensure they are well-protected to maintain their sentimental value.
As we wrap up this festive crafting journey, remember the multitude of benefits that toddler Christmas crafts bring—cognitive development, fine motor skills improvement, and emotional expression, all wrapped in the joy of creating cherished memories.
Don’t be afraid to get a little messy and unleash your own creativity alongside your toddler. The holiday season is the perfect time to bond over shared activities, creating traditions that will be treasured for years to come.

Okay, I am looking for some cool ideas for our Grade 7 Christmas Presentation. Since I have never really seen intermediate kids perform for christmas, I have no real idea of what end-product I am looking for. I do know that I would love to impress everyone by coming up with something fairly original and obviously appropriate for their ages, in other words, a little more mature than just standing in a group and singing a song. For any of you who have done this before at the intermediate level, can you share some really cool ideas that would wow everyone?

That's a tough one! I would probably try to tie it in with the curriculum somehow. Write a modern twist on "A Christmas Carol" or colonial Christmas or Christmas around the world. Maybe your class could do a powerpoint or a short skit instead of a song.

When my daughter was in 7th grade her class sang a school version of the 12 Days of Christmas that was written by the teacher. It included verses that poked fun at some of the school rules and staff( in a nice way of course). The kids really enjoyed it.
That's a great idea!

I still remember the skit we did in school. Poor old Rudolf lost his red nose. The toys (have kids dress up like action heros, baby dolls, teddy bears, etc.) help him get his red nose back. I can't remember the story line, but it was pretty simple, with a song or two, and then then Santat came in and found his red nose--(he simply pulled off the white cover to reveal a red nose). As a child I was so impressed by the "trick". Writing the story line could be a great class activity.

Remember to ask if everyone even celebrates this holiday before doing the program.

I'd do a reader's theater. There are scripts online or you can purchase them at a Teacher's Supply. There is no memorization involved and the kids really enjoy these.

I've decided to join with our grade 8 class and do 12 days of Christmas and Twas the night before Christmas. We've personalized the words to suit our school and its community. It's really cool and takes the stress off of me as a new teacher doing it for the first time.
