Narrative Essay: I Love My Parents

Parents are the closest people that we have in our lives, whether we realize it or not. They love us not because we are smart, beautiful, successful or we have a good sense of humour, but just because we are their children. I, too, love mom and dad simply because they are my parents, but I think I would have felt the same even if they weren’t. I love who they are as people, each with their own individual traits – and, together, forming an amazing super-team that’s made me who I am today and taught me what life is all about.

My mother is a cheerful, chatty perfectionist who seems to always find something to get excited about and who can talk for hours about animals and flowers. She is never afraid to speak her mind and she can be very convincing when she wants to. She sometimes get upset a bit too easily, but she is just as quick to forgive and forget. I love mom for all that she is – even when she’s angry – for all that she has done for me, and for all that she’s taught me. My mom has been through a lot throughout the years, but she always kept fighting. She taught me to never lose hope even in the direst of moments, and she showed me how to look for happiness in the small things. She’s been trying to teach me to be more organized as well, but hasn’t succeeded yet. I love her for that too.

My father is quiet, patient and calm, and he has an adorable hit-and-miss sense of humour. I may not always find his jokes that funny, but I love him for trying. Dad almost never gets angry and he is always polite, friendly and nice to everyone. He is not the one to verbalize emotions, but he always shows his feelings through sweet gestures and little surprizes. He is the pacifist in our family and never goes against mom’s wishes, but he runs a large company witha firm hand. I love my father for all these characteristics and for all he’s sacrificed to build a better life for us. He’s worked day and night to ensure we afford good education and have a rich, wonderful childhood, and he has passed up many great opportunities for the benefit of our family. I love dad because he’s taught me that you cannot have it all in life, but with hard work and dedication, you can have what matters most to you.

Mom and dad may be very different people, but they complement each other perfectly. Together, they formed a super-team that was always there – and, thankfully, still is – to provide comfort, nurturing, and support and help me grow as a person. Their complementary personalities bring balance in our family, and each of them steps in whenever they are needed the most. Together, they taught me to believe in myself and have turned me into a fighter. Their care and dedication towards me and each other has served as an example of what healthy relationships should be like, and I love and admire them for that.

I love my parents because they are my parents, my good friends, my heroes, my role models, my safe haven, my pillars of strength.I am who I am today thanks to them, and I know that their support and affection will play an essential role in what I will become in the future. All I can hope is that, when I have children of my own, I will be half as good a parent as they were to me.

Parents are the first and most important teachers in a child’s life. They play a crucial role in shaping their children’s behaviors, attitudes and beliefs. From infancy to adulthood, parents guide and support their children to reach their full potential.

One of the primary responsibilities of parents is to provide love and care for their child. Children need a nurturing environment where they feel loved, safe and appreciated. This enables them to develop a strong sense of self-worth and confidence, which is essential for their emotional well-being.

Parents also have the responsibility to instill values and morals in their children. They act as role models for their kids and teach them important life lessons such as honesty, respect, kindness, empathy and responsibility. These values shape the character of children and help them become responsible, compassionate and ethical individuals.

Moreover, parents are the first ones to introduce their children to education. They encourage and support their kids in learning new things, whether at home or in school. Parents also play a crucial role in monitoring their child’s academic progress, providing necessary resources and helping them overcome any challenges they may face.

Aside from these roles, parents also serve as a source of emotional support for their children. They are there to listen, comfort and guide their kids through tough times. This support is vital in helping children develop resilience and coping skills.

In conclusion, parents play a significant role in the development of their children. From providing love and care to instilling values, encouraging education and offering emotional support, parents are the cornerstone of a child’s growth and well-being. We must recognize and appreciate the important role that parents play in our lives, and strive to support and learn from them as we navigate through life.

This includes meeting their basic needs such as food, shelter, and clothing, as well as providing emotional support and stability. Parents also play a significant role in instilling discipline and teaching good manners to their child.

Furthermore, parents are also responsible for fostering a positive relationship with their child. This involves spending quality time together, having open and honest communication, and being actively involved in their child’s life. By doing so, parents can help their child develop healthy self-esteem, confidence and a sense of belonging.

In addition to these responsibilities, parents also serve as role models for their children. Children often imitate the behavior and attitudes of their parents, which is why it is crucial for parents to lead by example and demonstrate positive values and behaviors.

National Parents’ Day – July 27, 2025

Where would we be without our parents, the people who loved us even before we were born? They do so much for us every day of our young lives and the love doesn’t stop once we’re adults. That’s why it’s good to honor them on their special day, National Parents’ Day July 27, celebrated on the fourth Sunday in July.

While Mother’s and Father’s days were first officially celebrated in the early 1900s, (and National Grandpa Day is already approaching its 40 year  anniversary); National Parents’ Day wasn’t established until 1994.  That’s when President Bill Clinton signed a Congressional Resolution “recognizing, uplifting, and supporting the role of parents in bringing up their children.” Well said!

When is National Parents’ Day 2025?

The one-in-a-million bond with our parents is celebrated on National Parents’ Day every year on the fourth Sunday of July.

History of National Parents’ Day

Parents are the greatest gift of nature we have. There is nothing that comes close to taking their place in our lives. The role of parents is integral in the development of a child’s life. The aim of National Parents’ Day is to promote responsible parenting and encourage positive reinforcement by parents for children. It goes the other way as well, as the day also celebrates the sacrifices of parents and the unparalleled bond of love between parents and their children.

President Bill Clinton established the holiday in 1994 by signing the Congressional Resolution that approved National Parents’ Day by law. Republican Senator Trent Lott introduced the law, with the aim of “…uplifting, and supporting the role of parents in the rearing of children.”

It makes sense that National Parents’ Day is celebrated in July, seeing as how Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day celebrations fall in the months of May and June. National Parents’ Day is observed on the fourth Sunday of July every year, with participation from citizens, educational institutions, federal- and local governments, legislative bodies, and organizations. Activities and events take place to recognize, uplift, and support the role of parents in raising their children.

The Parents’ Day Council essentially promotes the holiday through ceremonies. An example is the Parents of the Year award, which honors those who set an outstanding standard for positive parenthood at local, state, and national levels.

National Parents’ Day timeline

The National Parent Teacher Association is originally formed as the National Congress of Mothers in Washington, D.C.

Its circulation reaches more than 2.2 million before its final issue is released in 2013.

The U.S. House of Representatives introduces a resolution establishing the fourth Sunday in July as National Parents’ Day.

The House and Senate both sign the Parents’ Day resolution.

President Bill Clinton signs the resolution and National Parents’ Day is born.

Call or visit them.

Parents love visits from the kids and grandkids. And let’s face it — they aren’t going to be around forever, as much as we wish they could be. We should tell our parents how much they mean to us.

Tell them they were right

Parents are always dispensing wisdom and advice as we grow up, most of it unsolicited. As kids, we often dismiss these truths or ignore them outright. Then, we grow up and have kids of our own — and we realize how right our parents were about pretty much everything all along.

5 Facts About Parenting That You Aren’t Prepared For

You will wonder if you're cut out for this.

No matter how much you prepare for it, there is no guaranteed way to accomplish parenting successfully — there will be days when you will wonder whether parenthood was the right choice.

Your kids are a reflection of you

Your quirks and mannerisms will be mirrored by your children — you’ll start to see more and more of yourself in them as time goes on, and it will really make you think and want to be a better person.

You will become your parents

It’s a hard pill to swallow, and it is a slow progression, but you’ll find yourself saying the same things your parents did when you were younger.

Kids shows will become your favorite

Your Netflix will be full of kids’ shows and cartoon movies, and you won’t really mind.

Parenting can be downright heartbreaking

Whether it is a milestone your child reached or a setback, everything that your child feels, you will feel tenfold.

Why We Love National Parents’ Day

Parents do everything for us.

When we’re helpless babes in swaddling clothes; our parents feed us, burp us, and clean up our messy bums. When we’re up all night crying, they hold us close to their hearts and walk around the living room singing to us. They bandage our booboos. They give us someone to rely on, shoulders to cry on, and advice about kids in our classes who bully us—then say they have a crush on us. There’s nothing our parents haven’t done for us. We owe them everything.

Parents deserve a separate holiday

Moms have May, and fathers have June, so it seems appropriate that the very next month of the calendar has a day just for parents. While a relative newcomer to the slate of American familial holidays, National Parents’ Day has evolved into one of our favorites. Remember that even if the person or people who raised you with love aren't biologically-related to you, they have been there during good times and bad. Let’s honor them all.

Parents are our biggest fans

Parents think we’re beautiful little miracles when we’re kids — and even after we’ve grown up. They cheer for us when we step up to bat during Little League and they encourage us while we learn to play trumpet or even, drums. Our parents mark our growth on door jambs and walls. They celebrate us every day and now it's our chance to return the love on this special day.

My mom wakes up in the morning and prepares food for everyone. My dad also helps my mom. Then my dad helps me in getting ready for school every day. Meanwhile, my mom prepares my lunchbox and keeps it in my bag. She also keeps books and notebooks in my school bag as per my daily routine. My mom prepares really tasty food and so does my dad. They take care of our health. While keeping unwell, my dad calls the doctor or takes me to the doctor so that I get recovered soon. They pray to God every day for my health. In addition to household chores, my mom also helps me out with my homework.

My parents are good Badminton players, and I am also learning the game from them.  My mother is also a good swimmer and I accompany her to the swimming club in our society on all Sundays to learn how to swim.

My mother makes breakfast and our tiffins every morning. Before she leaves for work, she makes sure to finish all the cooking for the day too. My father helps my mother with a lot of things. My father helps me and my brother in getting ready for school every day., while my mother is in the kitchen. How To Write An Essay On ‘My Parents’ for Classes 1, 2 and 3

Shaili Contractor

Key Points to Remember When Writing an Essay on ‘My Parents’ for Classes 1, 2 and 3

10-line essay on ‘my parents’, short essay on ‘my parents’, long paragraph on ‘my parents’ for kids, what your 1st, 2nd or 3rd grader will learn from the essay.

Parents are the backbone of every child. Children learn most things from their parents because parents are every child’s first teachers. Kids connect with their parents in various ways. They observe them and don’t shy away from imitating them because their parents are their role models. So, when it comes to penning down their thoughts and feelings on their parents, most children take to it instantly because it is a topic they can relate to and enjoy writing about. This is why an essay on ‘My Parents’ is commonly assigned to children in classes 1,2 & 3. But, some kids may struggle to express themselves while writing the composition. If your child is one of them, here are some ways they can unleash their inner author and get their creative juices flowing on paper.

The first step to help children write creatively is to get them to share their ideas on the topic and build them organically. They may also read to be able to write better, but their observation of their parents would help them make the essay unique. Below are some more key points to remember:

  • When you want to write a paragraph about your parents, you need to vocalise your personal feelings for them.
  • It is important to describe your parents as individuals, their influence and their attributes which are the driving forces.
  • Create a mental outline about how you want the essay to flow.
  • Start with an introduction, describe your parents, detail their roles, and elaborate on their influence.
  • While describing, it is important to mention what the parents do.
  • Make sure to write about how they manage their personal and professional lives.
  • Ensure to highlight any points about their strengths and how they motivate you.
  • Speak about the important events and occasions that you spend with your parents.
  • Mention any key secret that keeps you and your family happy.
  • Write a strong conclusion about how children learn from parents and must be there for them.

Children in classes 1 and 2 would have just begun their journey into the basics of creative writing. More than writing an essay or a paragraph, they will be asked to express points on the topic. Read on for some tips to help them get started:

  • My father and mother are the best parents.
  • My father is a banker, and my mother is a teacher.
  • My parents work very hard for the family and take care of us.
  • They look after the house and make sure they keep it neat and clean.
  • They share the responsibility to help me with my studies.
  • My parents are active, and they ride the bike, play football, and board games with me.
  • My parents love to cook. They help each other every day and cook delicious and healthy meals.
  • My parents and I love celebrating festivals, and we decorate the whole house together.
  • My parents take me out to parks, restaurants, and cinemas.
  • I love my parents as they do so much for me and look after me.

Children in grades 2 and 3 can be a bit more expressive than first graders. Here’s an example of a short essay on the topic for you:

Parents are our best friends. We owe everything to our parents as they are the ones who bring us into the world. Like everyone, my parents are the most important people in my life. They make my life so simple and easy. I learn a lot from them, and they inspire me. My father is an engineer. He works for a large company. My mother is a banker. Both my parents rise early to ensure that my sister and I get to school on time. My father helps us get ready for school, and my mother starts cooking our breakfast and packing our lunch boxes. After they come home, my parents start preparing for the evening. They alternate the job of cooking and helping my sister and me with our studies. Once we finish dinner, we sit together as a family and watch TV. We make sure that we spend time together as a family every day, and over the weekends, we go out together to the park or the restaurant. My parents also make sure that we celebrate festivals and special occasions together. My parents work hard to have a good life, and they are my guiding force.

By class 3, children have a better understanding of the topic. They can also elaborate better and have a constructive template for their write-ups. They should ideally be able to write an introduction, main body and conclusion. Here’s a sample for you:

A gift, a blessing, or a miracle – parents can be anything you want them to be. Parents sacrifice their entire life for their children to ensure that we get the best opportunities to lead good lives. They inspire us to be responsible, caring, loving, and respectful.

My parents are very special to me. My father is a professor in a college and did not have an easy childhood. He had to face many difficulties and managed to complete his education to become a professor. He loves his work and strives hard to make a living and make our lives comfortable. He also takes tuitions for poor children for a small fee to help them achieve their dreams. He takes my lessons every day and also enjoys playing games with me. He teaches me how to play cricket as he is a fan of the sport himself.

My mother is a housewife but takes tuition for children every evening. She gave up her career to look after me and started tutoring children at home. She decided to become a tutor to help my father with his expenses and save for my future. She spends her entire day looking after the house and doing household chores. Every evening, when my father and I return, she has a host of dishes prepared for us to eat. My parents make sure that we spend some time together as a family before going to bed. We either read the newspaper or a book before going to bed. We also spend some leisure time going out to the park, restaurant or cinemas over the weekends. My parents do everything to make my life comfortable and help me do my best at home and school.

It is a blessing to have parents as we learn a lot from them. They teach us qualities like sacrifice, love, affection, and respect, which help us become responsible members of society. It is important to listen to parents as they will always speak for our good. I feel lucky to have my parents by my side, who teach me to become a better version of myself every day.

A composition on ‘My Parents’ is the best way to let a child’s imagination flow and their ideas transform into words. Children are very expressive in their speech, but it isn’t easy to write everything down. With some guidance, writing an essay or a few lines on this topic will help them channel their thoughts and feelings and improve their observation skills. Writing also gives kids a confidence boost, consolidates their literacy skills, and applies their reading skills in practice.

Most writers polish their writing skills by drafting essays. The examples given above would give your child the much-needed jumpstart to explore the world of writing. With these tips, your child can learn to develop ideas, plan their essays, write exciting details and make the final edits to write a brilliant essay.

Appreciate All Parents Throughout the World

Since the 1980s, the important role of the family has increasingly come to the attention of the international community. The General Assembly adopted a number of resolutions and proclaimed the International Year of the Family and the International Day of Families.

Emphasizing the critical role of parents in the rearing of children, the Global Day of Parents recognizes that the family has the primary responsibility for the nurturing and protection of children. For the full and harmonious development of their personality, children should grow up in a family environment and in an atmosphere of happiness, love and understanding.

Designated by the General Assembly in 2012, Global Day of Parents provides an opportunity to appreciate all parents for their "selfless commitment to children and their lifelong sacrifice towards nurturing this relationship."

Families, parents and caregivers play a central role in child well-being and development. They offer identity, love, care, provision and protection to children and adolescents as well as economic security and stability. In keeping with the spirit of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, family and parenting support is increasingly recognized as an important part of national social policies and social investment packages aimed at reducing poverty, decreasing inequality and promoting positive parental and child well-being.

Like no one else, parents and caregivers shape the experiences that build their children’s brains and set them on a path towards healthy development. Parenting is too big a job for parents and caregivers to do alone. They need support to give their children the best possible start in life.

Why do we mark International Days?

International days and weeks are occasions to educate the public on issues of concern, to mobilize political will and resources to address global problems, and to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity. The existence of international days predates the establishment of the United Nations, but the UN has embraced them as a powerful advocacy tool. We also mark other UN observances .

Preschoolers, parents and first separations: How to work through it

It’s the first day of preschool and kindergarten for many little Minnesotans. That means new routines and new people, which can create some anxiety for parents and kids. MPR News asked a few experts and parents for advice. Here’s what they told us.

What is separation anxiety?

It’s a feeling of excessive fear or anxiety when being separated from a loved one. It can look like difficulty sleeping, excessive worry, nightmares or bed wetting. It’s very common in children.

The National Association for the Education of Young Children has a catalog of tips and discussions around identifying separation anxiety in kids, from identifying potential problems to how parents can help navigate them.

Why do kids feel separation anxiety around back-to-school season?

It’s mainly the new locations, new activities and different routines — but it can also be a feeling that they may be misunderstood, said Lidan Gu , a pediatric psychologist and assistant professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School.

When breaking news happens, MPR News provides the context you need. Help us meet the significant demands of these newsgathering efforts.

Young children rely on their primary caregivers to understand their needs even when they can’t verbalize them, she said. “So when they go to the child care or preschool for the first time, that means that they’re going to adjust to the new caregivers and they’re going to worry whether the new caregivers will understand what they need and they want.”

Gu said parents may also end up with conflicted emotions — not wanting their child to be sad but knowing they need to let them go because child care or preschool or kindergarten is a great opportunity for a child's development.

How can families navigate those emotions?

Gu noted that children rely on routines to feel a sense of comfort. So, make a routine, some kind of goodbye ritual.

That’s a sentiment echoed by Kristen Wheeler Highland , a 43-year child care veteran who’s currently a staff member at the Community Action Partnership of Washington & Ramsey Counties who works closely with the region’s Early Head Start and Head Start programs.

“We need both the parent and the child to be confident in the separating and the reuniting,” she said, adding that she encourages parents to create a three-step ritual. “What are the three key things you’re going to do every single time you drop your child off, so that it is so routine that the minute I do the first of those three things, my child knows it’s signaling that I’m going.”

Those steps, she said, might start with “a positive statement, like ‘You’re gonna have a great day,’ then some kind of connection like a hug or kiss or ‘I love you,’ and then it’s a reassuring goodbye. ‘See you later! I’ll pick you up at 2!’”

The worst thing a parent can do is sneak out, she added, because it can signal to a child that you can’t trust them to know you’re going somewhere.

Wheeler Highland also mentioned getting to know your child care providers and making a visual reference for your kid’s school. That’s what parents Sean James and Imani Moss did recently at a preschool open house with their 3-year-old son, Kyrie.

Kyrie is the third of their four kids, and they said this time they feel more excited than nervous about the coming separation but that it’s still nerve-wracking.

“The first time, it was very hard. I’m not gonna lie. But it’s the third time around, not as nervous,” James said. “I’m always gonna be nervous, like sending my kid away, but I’m not as nervous because I got good confidence in my son.”

At the open house they were greeted by Kyrie’s teachers and administrators. They said it made them feel good to know their son was going to be around people with good energy.

Overall, experts and parents noted that despite the anxious days first separations with young children can create, it gets better with time. Just be consistent.

Deptford Twp. parents frustrated over missing, changing bus info ahead of first day of school

Trish Hartman Image

DEPTFORD TOWNSHIP, New Jersey (WPVI) -- Tricia Skolnick's kids are ready for their first day of school on Thursday in Deptford Township, New Jersey.

But she's nervous to find out if the buses are ready.

"My third grader who goes to the same school as my first grader - it's listed as 'No Bussing' for him. Even though my first grader does have a bus," explained Skolnick.

On top of that, Skolnick says the bus stop assigned to her daughter is not safe and not walkable from their home.

"Even if they moved the bus stop to this side, we can't even walk on that side because there's no sidewalk," Skolnick said as she stood at the bus stop Wednesday afternoon.

In August, the district announced it would not provide free busing for students who live within a certain distance from their schools.

The backlash was swift from families and township officials, which led to the decision being reversed .

essay about parents day

But now, as the first day of school starts, many parents are alarmed to find they have no bus information or a bus stop that's much farther than they're used to.

Superintendent Kevin Kenauss released a letter to parents on Wednesday, saying in part:

"Our new transportation staff has been working to rectify issues created from prior department supervision, which had deleted student information from our old transportation routing software. This data was completely lost and unavailable to us, leading to routes having to be recreated from scratch. As of today, students have been provided a bus stop, which appears in Genesis. However, many of these stops will require reevaluation, due to the legitimate safety concerns raised by parents. We are in the process of evaluating each individual situation which has been brought to our attention."

He went on to ask parents for their patience and that they check the Genesis Parent Portal every morning after 5:30 a.m. to get the latest updates on their child's bus stop information.

Joan Bahateridis has two students going to the same school, but says they're assigned to two different bus stops and two different buses.

"If they don't allow her to hitchhike onto her brother's bus tomorrow, I will keep her home," she said.

She says she hasn't had any luck contacting anyone in the district to find out why this is happening.

She also said adding the 15-minute walk to the farther bus stop is not safe for her 13-year-old daughter, Alexis.

"I feel like the anger is reasonable," said Alexis. "Because a lot of kids have to walk on main streets just to get to a bus stop that's so far from home."

"I work a full-time job. I don't have the privilege of dropping them off," said Bahateridis.

Some parents say they're just driving their kids to school even if they do have bus information, because they're nervous about the miscommunications so far.

A district spokesperson says bus information will continue to be updated.

The district is asking any parents with bus issues to email [email protected].
