Resume sections.

1. Contact Information:

  • Nationality

2. Career Summary: Your professional summary should be designed in such a way as to provide the potential employer with an incentive to review your entire resume. Things to include would be the total number of years experience as in an Au Pair, or in a Childcare Environment, the ages of the children cared for personality traits, and achievement or two. The aim is to hook the person into calling you up for an interview.

3. Qualifications Summary: Most Au Pairs have just completed High School, but there are instances where a family may need someone with an associate’s or bachelor's degree. Make sure to state your highest qualification and also include training programs, workshops, certifications, or courses that you have completed, which will add value to the role of an Au Pair. Provide accurate details about the licenses, certifications, and qualifications you have finished with the institution, qualification name, and dates. Don’t forget to include the qualifications you are currently in the process of completing.

4. Relevant Au Pair Experience: Au Pairs may have different responsibilities depending on the hosting family’s needs and requirements. Highlight the primary purpose of each Au Pair job you have held and use bullet points underneath to explain daily or weekly tasks. Also, include contactable references with each post you decide to list on your resume. Keep descriptions brief and to the point and remember the resume length should not exceed more than two pages.

5. Other Employment Experience : If this is your first Au Pair gig, feel free to include additional employment experiences you have had working with children from instance babysitting or volunteering at a creche, for example. The tutoring experience is also relevant to childcare as well as helping out at the afterschool programs in your area. Camp counseling is another example of a relevant vocational experience you can add to fill up your resume.

6. Skills Summary/Key Skills: A separate skills section may boost the impact of your application significantly because you are providing a list of the most prominent technical skills and also interpersonal skills, which gives the reader insight into your proficiencies as well as the type of person you are. The best way to add capabilities is by using a Skills Matrix. More on this later on in this write-up. A skills summary also helps to get your resume noticed by recruiters (whether human or IA), mainly if you use the same wording of the skills set listed by the job advertisement.

What to Highlight in an Au Pair Resume

To land an au-pair job, you need to create a compelling resume with all the vital details that parents and family representatives need to know about you to decide on whether you would fit into the family structure and get along with their children.

The first aspect to highlight would be your availability. Some Au Pairs work part-time because they combine childcare work with studying at a university in the host country. How many hours would you be available to the family? Au Pairs in general work between 20 – 45 hours per week. Also, indicate whether you are available during weekends and if you are comfortable traveling with the family when they go on vacation or take short trips during weekends.

Have a look at the Au Pair Classifications below and choose the one that is most applicable to your circumstances:

  • Full-time Student Au Pairs: They are available for more than 4 hours per day and Part-Time Student Au Pairs for about 1-2 hours per day or 1-2 days during the week, depending on their other commitments.
  • Teacher Au Pairs: They are educators who work at schools during the mornings but are available to look after children in the afternoons and evenings as well as during weekends. They also have associate degrees and even teaching licenses with emphasis placed on helping students to improve their academic performance in conjunction with the regular duties of an Au Pair.
  • Personal Assistant/Au Pair:
  • In this role, you are also assisting one of the parents or both with administrative tasks, personal errands, events planning, or managing household staff in addition to the typical duties of an au pair. A PA Au Pair usually have more extended hours, sometimes up to 10 per day.
  • Professional Au Pair: Even though the majority of Au Pairs are recent school leavers or freshers from university, there is a percentage of individuals that make a full-time career out of it. They have many years of experience, have worked in numerous countries, and are excellent with infant care, toddler care, and early childhood development. Professional Au Pairs also stay with one family for a long time, maybe five years or more, as opposed to the usual Au Pair gig that lasts 12 to18 months.

Now that you have classified yourself accordingly, its time to tell your Au Pair story. This may include a paragraph of the countries you have been to before (whether traveled or to be an Au Pair), the languages you can speak and understand, the type of families you have assisted in the past, and also the ages of the children you have cared for previously.

Then delve into your main childcare proficiencies and skills. To help you create this paragraph, think of the primary activities in the daily life of a child in terms of mealtime, bath time, sleep time, going to school, returning from school, attending extramural activities, playtime and doing homework.

  • Mealtimes: Describe your role in this regard. Are you responsible for breakfast and lunch or tasked witch cooking a proper dinner for the children in the evenings?
  • Bath Time: Do you bathe the children under your care and if so at what time during the evenings and explain the typical bathing routine? (sounds like much detail, but be as descriptive as you can without writing a book)
  • Sleep Time: Do you read them stories, help with prayers?
  • School: Are you expected to drive the children to school and fetch them from school? What are the drop off and pick up times? Do you have an international driver’s license and a clean driving record? Are you used to automatic vehicles only, or can you drive with a stick?
  • Extra-Curricular : Are you responsible for taking the children under your care to their various afterschool activities and pick them up again afterward? Which additional activities do they have and what is the schedule during the week?
  • Play Time: What is your role during playtime? Are you actively involved and engaging in games with them or merely overseeing what they do to make sure they don’t hurt each other?
  • Homework: Do you help with homework or only supervise that schoolwork is being completed?
  • Housework: Some Au Pairs are expected to assist with light housekeeping such as cleaning the children's rooms, tidying up after mealtimes, loading and unloading the dishwasher, and also shopping for groceries and food items. Be sure to mention your exact responsibilities in this regard.

Next on the list is the safety, emergency, and security aspects of your experience. You need to mention certifications such as First Aid and CPR and also indicate if you ever had to make use of this training where an accident or event has taken place.

The last section to highlight is specialist skills if you have any worth mentioning. These may include being able to care for special needs kids, unruly adolescents with learning problems, or infants from a few weeks old. If you have potty trained toddlers before, this is the paragraph to mention it in. Also, experience in sleep training or having skills in play therapy and motor stimulation should also be discussed here.

Au Pair Career Summary

Au Pairs apply for jobs in droves because it is such an exciting opportunity to get immersed in another culture, learn a foreign language and receive free board and lodging (having a passion for children is, of course, a given).

Parents and families require the services of Au Pairs because their schedules are so hectic that they need assistance in taking care of their children. With this in mind, imagine the limited time these parents have to read through resume applications. Make their lives that much easier by including a career summary underneath your personal particulars on the first page of the resume document.

Parents can be antsy about whom they entrust to take care of their children; therefore your summary needs to be packed to core competencies, personality traits and value-adding statements to catcher their attention and reinforce the message that you would be a good fit for their kids

With that said, remember it is a career ‘’SUMMARY” not an essay/ Write 4-6 lines in paragraph format or uses bullet points. The entire summary should take no more than a few seconds to read.

Highlight Your Accomplishments

If you can showcase the benefit and the positive contribution you made to other families and children from previous employment stints, your chances of standing out from the rest of the applications are so much more favorable.

Writing accomplishment statements can be tricky, but if you incorporate these three aspects, your resume is good to go:

  • Think of activities you had to do where you improved in the children or family’s daily lives
  • Now explain what that improvement or value-adding factor was
  • Add quantification to your accomplishment statement by providing numerical values such as time frames, scores, percentages, rankings or frequencies

The other percentage of Au Pairs start with their 12-month contracts after completing a degree at university or studying while they are au-pairing part-time.

Ensure to provide accurate details about your highest qualifications, date completed, title, and institution Remember to mention the current qualifications you busy completing too. Regarding courses and certifications, discretion and relevance must be considered. Think about what parents would be interested in hearing about, for instance, that you are certified in Water Safety, have completed an Advanced Driving Course, or special skills to care for infants.

Designing your au pair resume format to catch recruiters' eyes

Your au pair resume will be assessed on a couple of criteria, one of which is the actual presentation.

Is your resume legible and organized? Does it follow a smooth flow?

Or have you presented recruiters with a chaotic document that includes everything you've ever done in your career?

Unless specified otherwise, there are four best practices to help maintain your resume format consistency.

  • The top one third of your au pair resume should definitely include a header, so that recruiters can easily contact you and scan your professional portfolio (or LinkedIn profile).
  • Within the experience section, list your most recent (and relevant) role first, followed up with the rest of your career history in a reverse-chronological resume format .
  • Always submit your resume as a PDF file to sustain its layout. There are some rare exceptions where companies may ask you to forward your resume in Word or another format.
  • If you are applying for a more senior role and have over a decade of applicable work experience (that will impress recruiters), then your au pair resume can be two pages long. Otherwise, your resume shouldn't be longer than a single page.

Upload & Check Your Resume

Drop your resume here or choose a file . PDF & DOCX only. Max 2MB file size.

List your educational qualifications and certifications in reverse chronological order.

Don't forget to include these six sections on your au pair resume:

  • Header and summary for your contact details and to highlight your alignment with the au pair job you're applying for
  • Experience section to get into specific technologies you're apt at using and personal skills to deliver successful results
  • Skills section to further highlight how your profile matches the job requirements
  • Education section to provide your academic background
  • Achievements to mention any career highlights that may be impressive, or that you might have missed so far in other resume sections

What recruiters want to see on your resume:

  • Experience in childcare or previous au pair positions, including specifics like age groups cared for and responsibilities held.
  • Language skills, particularly fluency in the host family’s language and any additional languages that could benefit the children's learning.
  • Cultural exchange interest and adaptability, showing enthusiasm for learning and participating in the host family's culture.
  • First aid and child safety certifications indicating the candidate's preparedness for emergency situations.
  • References or testimonials from previous families or childcare-related employment.

The au pair resume experience section: a roadmap to your expertise

The resume experience section provides you with an opportunity to tell your professional narrative.

Recruiters, reading between the lines of your resume, use the experience section to better understand your unique skill set, accomplishments, and what unique value you bring about.

Discover five quick steps on how to write your experience section:

  • Curate only relevant experience items to the role and include the company, description, and dates; all followed by up to six bullets per experience item;
  • Each experience item should feature tangible results of your actions - if you can include a number or percent, this will further highlight your aptitude;
  • If you've received any managerial or customer feedback, use short excerpts of it as further social proof of your technical or people skills;
  • Make sure you're using the appropriate verb tense when listing your responsibilities;
  • Within the description for each role, you could summarize your most noteworthy and relevant achievements.

Now, take note of how a real-world au pair professional received opportunities at industry leaders with these resume experience sections:

Remember these four tips when writing your au pair resume with no experience

You've done the work - auditing the job requirements for keywords and have a pretty good idea of the skill set the ideal candidate must possess.

Yet, your professional experience amounts to a summer internship .

Even if you have limited or no professional expertise that matches the role you're applying for, you can use the resume experience section to:

  • List extracurricular activities that are relevant to the job requirements. Let's say you were editor-in-chief of your college newspaper or part of the engineering society. Both activities have taught you invaluable, transferrable skills (e.g. communication or leadership) that can be crucial for the job;
  • Substitute jobs with volunteer experience. Participating in charity projects has probably helped you develop an array of soft skills (e.g. meeting deadlines and interpersonal communications). On the other hand, volunteering shows potential employers more about you: who you are and what are the causes you care about;
  • Align job applications with your projects. Even your final-year thesis work could be seen as relevant experience, if it's in the same industry as the job you're applying for. Ensure you've listed the key skills your project has taught you, alongside tangible outcomes or your project success;
  • Shift the focus to your transferrable skills. We've said it before, but recruiters will assess your profile upon both job requirements and the skills you possess. Consider what your current experience - both academic and life - has taught you and how you've been able to develop your talents.

Bringing your au pair hard skills and soft skills to the forefront of recruiters' attention

Hard skills are used to define the technological (and software) capacities you have in the industry. Technical skills are easily defined via your certification and expertise.

Soft skills have more to do with your at-work personality and how you prosper within new environments. People skills can be obtained thanks to your whole life experience and are thus a bit more difficult to define.

Why do recruiters care about both types of skills?

Hard skills have more to do with job alignment and the time your new potential employers would have to invest in training you.

Soft skills hint at how well you'd adapt to your new environment, company culture, and task organization.

Fine-tune your resume to reflect on your skills capacities and talents:

  • Avoid listing basic requirements (e.g. "Excel"), instead substitute with the specifics of the technology (e.g. "Excel Macros").
  • Feature your workplace values and ethics as soft skills to hint at what matters most to you in a new environment.
  • Build a separate skills section for your language capabilities, only if it makes sense to the role you're applying for.
  • The best way to balance au pair hard and soft skills is by building a strengths or achievements section, where you define your outcomes via both types of skills.

There are plenty of skills that could make the cut on your resume.

That's why we've compiled for you some of the most wanted skills by recruiters, so make sure to include the technologies and soft skills that make the most sense to you (and the company you're applying for):

Listing your education and certifications on your au pair resume

Don't underestimate the importance of your resume education section . As it may hint at various skills (and experience) that are relevant to the job. When writing your education section:

  • Include only higher education degrees with information about the institution and start/end dates
  • If you're in the process of obtaining your degree, include your expected graduation date
  • Consider leaving off degrees that aren't relevant to the job or industry
  • Write a description of your education if it presents you with an opportunity to further showcase your achievements in a more research-focused environment

When describing your certifications on your resume, always consider their relevancy to the role. Use the same format to describe them as you would for your education. If you're wondering what the best certificates out there are for au pair roles, check out the list below.

Professional summary or objective for your au pair resume

au pair candidates sometimes get confused between the difference of a resume summary and a resume objective.

Which one should you be using?

Remember that the:

  • Resume objective has more to do with your dreams and goals for your career. Within it, you have the opportunity to showcase to recruiters why your application is an important one and, at the same time, help them imagine what your impact on the role, team, and company would be.
  • Resume summary should recount key achievements, tailored for the role, through your career. Allowing recruiters to quickly scan and understand the breadth of your au pair expertise.

The resume objectives are always an excellent choice for candidates starting off their career, while the resume summary is more fitting for experienced candidates.

No matter if you chose a summary or objective, get some extra inspiration from real-world professional au pair resumes:

Resume Length

The format of your resume is essentially the order in which the information will follow . As a professional au pair with plenty of experience, you need a resume format that will highlight your work experience , as the hiring family will want someone with a strong background in childcare.

The  reverse-chronological resume format  is, therefore, your best bet for a highly effective application. In this format, you add your work experience starting with the most recent and working backward . This work experience must come right after your resume summary statement to ensure that it is easy to spot and read through.

This resume format is also universally recognized as the standard for outstanding resumes, which means most recruiters will understand it more easily than other formats.

Your  resume design  is critical, as it determines the recruiters’ first impression of you. It will indicate your organizational skills and attention to detail, which is why y ou need a flawless, appealing, and error-free resume design. Your resume should be legible and easy to skim through as well.

Balancing out white space with the amount of text is a key component of making an easy-to-read resume; it ensures the document does not look stuffed and hard to read. You can increase white space by having a margin all around your resume and reducing the use of underlining and bold formatting.

As you write your details, use one font throughout your document for consistency . Formal  resume fonts  you can use include Arial, Georgia, and Calibri, in legible sizes like 12.

Use  subheadings  at the beginning of each section and bullet points to make your resume easier to skim through .

You can use a dark color like navy blue or maroon as a column background color to enhance your resume’s appearance. Finally, p roofread your resume and save it as a PDF to conserve its design across various reading devices.

Having a photo on your resume is highly advised against as it may predispose you to hiring bias.

Sections of a Au pair Resume

Each  section of your resume  is important in determining your suitability for the job you are applying for. Dividing your information into sections also enables you to organize your professional details in a manner that is universally accepted by HR professionals. Below are the sections that you must include in your au pair resume:

  • Resume title: your profession, i.e., Au Pair
  • Contact information: Include your name without any title and current work contacts for the panel to contact you (email and mailing address, and phone number). A LinkedIn profile is optional.
  • Resume professional summary:  A summary of your professional abilities , specialization, positive qualities, and the period spent in the workforce. If you have little experience, use this section to show off your valuable skills and knowledge.
  • Professional background
  • Academic background
  • Additional skills and certifications : any extra competencies that you possess and are relevant to the job requirements such as first aid and cooking skills

Your volunteerism can be helpful if you  have little experience  as an au pair. Your hobbies and interests are optional, though they can also add more points if they coincide with your career.

An au pair resume should be about one page long. Be as brief as you can while including your important details, especially any achievements you can demonstrate . You do not want to overwhelm the recruiter with excessive information. Again, do not go below font 11 as the resume will become illegible.

Au pair Resume Section Headings

Work experience.

The most vital part of your au pair resume is the work experience section. This is because this section illustrates the various duties you have fulfilled previously in childcare and will reveal your ability to handle new roles.

As you write this section, make sure that you include all the responsibilities indicated in the job description to ensure that you come across as a perfect match for the position.

A high school diploma is essential to get a position as an au pair. However, some clients will prefer that you have a post-secondary diploma in early childhood development or any other relevant position. This section is also important in proving  your academic qualifications .

Here, indicate your highest achievement first, followed by the college or school name, and location, and years of study. If you have little experience, indicate any courses or programs you have attended that are relevant to the job.

Some states may require you to pass a background check and show a record of immunizations to get an au pair job. Others may require that you have CPR and first aid certifications or even the Child Development Associate certification.

If you have any of these, write them in order of the most recently received, the organization that offered it, and the date of receipt. Other than licenses and certifications, include all other helpful skills that you have, such as creative skills or speaking a foreign language .

2. Add relevant education to your au pair resume

Your resume's education section should include:

  • The name of your school
  • The date you graduated ( Month, Year or Year are both appropriate)
  • The name of your degree

If you graduated more than 15 years ago, you should consider dropping your graduation date to avoid age discrimination.

Optional subsections for your education section include:

  • Academic awards (Dean's List, Latin honors, etc. )
  • GPA (if you're a recent graduate and your GPA was 3.5+)
  • Extra certifications
  • Academic projects (thesis, dissertation, etc. )

Other tips to consider when writing your education section include:

  • If you're a recent graduate, you might opt to place your education section above your experience section
  • The more work experience you get, the shorter your education section should be
  • List your education in reverse chronological order, with your most recent and high-ranking degrees first
  • If you haven't graduated yet, you can include "Expected graduation date" to the entry for that school

3. Next, create an au pair skills section on your resume

Your resume's skills section should include the most important keywords from the job description, as long as you actually have those skills. If you haven't started your job search yet, you can look over resumes to get an idea of what skills are the most important.

Here are some tips to keep in mind when writing your resume's skills section:

  • Include 6-12 skills, in bullet point form
  • List mostly hard skills ; soft skills are hard to test
  • Emphasize the skills that are most important for the job

Hard skills are generally more important to hiring managers because they relate to on-the-job knowledge and specific experience with a certain technology or process.

Soft skills are also valuable, as they're highly transferable and make you a great person to work alongside, but they're impossible to prove on a resume.

Example of skills to include on an au pair resume

Household chores are defined as the regular, day-to-day practices performed at home in order to sustain home life. These chores include practices such as cleaning, cooking, washing, doing dishes, ironing, and other everyday activities.

Child care means the care, supervision, or guidance of a child by a person other than the child's parent, guardian, or custodian for periods of less than 24 hours. Childcare could be either center-based such as a daycare or a nursery or home-based care such as nannies or family daycare.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR is a medical procedure that involves chest compression to help a patient breathe. This artificial ventilation helps in keeping the brain function in place and regulates blood throughout the body. CPR is a lifesaving procedure that is used in emergencies.

A medical appointment is a scheduled / specific day and time for a person to be examined or treated by a physician, nurse, or other licensed healthcare professional. The aim of the medical appointment is for the physician to be able to identify health problems or illnesses at an early stage.

The Spanish language is the most extensively spoken Romance language throughout the world. It's also one of the most widely spoken languages worldwide, with 543 million speakers in 2021.

  • Household Chores , 14.7%
  • Child Care , 11.0%
  • Meal Preparation , 9.1%
  • Other Skills , 34.3%

4. List your au pair experience

The most important part of any resume for an au pair is the experience section. Recruiters and hiring managers expect to see your experience listed in reverse chronological order, meaning that you should begin with your most recent experience and then work backwards.

Don't just list your job duties below each job entry. Instead, make sure most of your bullet points discuss impressive achievements from your past positions. Whenever you can, use numbers to contextualize your accomplishments for the hiring manager reading your resume.

It's okay if you can't include exact percentages or dollar figures. There's a big difference even between saying "Managed a team of au pairs" and "Managed a team of 6 au pairs over a 9-month project. "

Most importantly, make sure that the experience you include is relevant to the job you're applying for. Use the job description to ensure that each bullet point on your resume is appropriate and helpful.

If you have any of these certifications, make sure to put them on your au pair resume:

  • Child Development Associate (CDA)
  • MEDIC First Aid BasicPlus - G2010
  • First Aid, CPR and AED Instructor

6. Finally, add an au pair resume summary or objective statement

A resume summary statement consists of 1-3 sentences at the top of your au pair resume that quickly summarizes who you are and what you have to offer. The summary statement should include your job title, years of experience (if it's 3+), and an impressive accomplishment, if you have space for it.

How Long Should my Au Pair Resume be?

Your Au Pair resume length should be less than one or two pages maximum. Unless you have more than 25 years of experience, any resume that’s more than two pages would appear to be too long and risk getting rejected.

On an average, for Au Pair, we see most resumes have a length of 2. And, that’s why we advise you to keep the resume length appropriate to not get rejected.

How to write an Au Pair Resume?

Diving into the world of Au Pair roles is exciting and yet daunting. Crafting a resume that stands out is the first step to show host families you are more than capable of being their next trusted Au Pair. Transforming your resume into a compelling story that resonates with your potential host family and passes the scrutiny of Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) requires insight and a bit of creativity.

Using Wozber, a free resume builder optimized for ATS compliance , we'll guide you through tailoring your resume, ensuring it meets the host family's expectations and ATS requirements. Let's start shaping your resume into a passport for your Au Pair adventure!

Personal Details

The personal details section might look straightforward, yet it's your initial handshake with the host family. Let's ensure this section showcases you not just as any Au Pair, but as the one they've been hoping to find. Personalizing this section while keeping it professional positions you as a strong candidate right from the start.

1. Name First

Think of your name as the title of your story. Ensure it's clearly visible, acting as an anchor for the entire resume. Employ a readable font and a size that makes it stand out without overtaking the page. This is where your journey with the host family begins.

2. Job Title Echo

Directly below your name, echoing the job title "Au Pair" aligns your purpose with the host's needs. It's like wearing a badge that instantly identifies you as the perfect candidate for their specific requirements.

3. Correct Contact Information

List your contact details next, including a mobile number and a professional email. A simple format like [email protected] cuts a professional figure. Ensure the information is correct; after all, you don't want to miss a call from your future host family.

4. Local Touch

Being located in Los Angeles, California, as per the job description, is a significant advantage. Highlighting your city and state confirms your availability and accessibility, checking a crucial box in the family's list.

5. Digital Footprint

Consider including a LinkedIn profile link if it skilfully mirrors your resume. Make sure it is up-to-date and reflects your experience and skills as an Au Pair accurately. This adds depth to your application and offers a richer story about your professional journey.

Your Personal Details section is essentially your resume's welcoming smile. It sets the tone for your application, ensuring you appear professional, prepared, and perfectly in place for an Au Pair role. Precision in this section paves the way for a memorable first impression, so craft it with care.

The Experience section is where your journey really starts to unfold for the host family. It's where you illustrate not just what you've done, but how those experiences equip you for the adventures and responsibilities of being their Au Pair. Let's optimize this section to highlight why you're the ideal candidate, ensuring your experiences shine in the ATS-friendly resume format.

  • Engaged in educational and recreational activities with the children, leading to a 20% increase in their intellectual development.

  • Successfully escorted children to school, appointments, and extracurricular activities, ensuring timely attendance.
  • Maintained open and honest communication with the host family, resulting in a positive and trusting relationship.
  • Assisted in providing care for up to five children, enhancing team efficiency by 10%.
  • Organized playdates and supervised group activities that boosted children's social skills.
  • Aided in meal preparation and clean‑up, ensuring 100% adherence to safety standards.
  • Acted as a mentor for younger staff, improving their understanding of childcare best practices.
  • Utilized strong organizational skills to maintain a neat and orderly play area, leading to improved child safety.

1. Dissecting the Job Description

Begin by parsing the job description and align your past roles with the stated responsibilities and requirements. For instance, if the job emphasizes "ensuring the safety and well-being" of children, your previous role engaging in activities that boosted children's intellectual and physical development directly resonates.

2. Relevant Roles Front and Center

Structure your experiences starting with the most recent position, focusing on those that reflect direct care and interaction with children. Mention the company or private employment context, along with the duration you held each role.

3. Showcase Specific Achievements

Underlining accomplishments like promoting children's intellectual development or improving home environments not only illustrates your capability but also quantifies your impact. Pointing out specific achievements vividly describes the positive change you brought in your previous employments.

4. Incorporate Quantitative Metrics

Whenever possible, back up your achievements with numbers. Perhaps you managed to increase intellectual development by 20% or improved the home environment by 15%. These tangible metrics provide a clear, impressive snapshot of your abilities and results.

5. Stick to What Matters

While being a multi-talented individual is fantastic, in the context of your Au Pair resume, relevancy reigns supreme. Focus on experiences and achievements that mirror the needs of the host family and the job description, ensuring every bullet point makes a compelling case for your candidacy.

Your Experience section is the narrative arc of your professional tale. It's where you demonstrate your preparedness, passion, and potential as an Au Pair. Ensuring it's tailored, quantified, and relevant makes your story not just credible, but captivating. Remember, it's not about the roles you've had, but the stories they tell and the promise they hold for your future host family.

Your Education section, while seemingly straightforward, is another layer of your Au Pair narrative. It's where you highlight the foundation of your knowledge and skills. For an Au Pair position, showcasing relevant education, like a degree in Child Development, directly mirrors your commitment to the role. Let's sculpt this section to reflect your readiness and suitability.

1. Identifying Educational Prerequisites

Although the job description did not specify educational requirements, highlighting a relevant degree - such as a Bachelor of Arts in Child Development from the University of California, Los Angeles - aligns perfectly with an Au Pair's role. It presents you as highly knowledgeable and suitable.

2. Simple and Clear Formatting

Organize your educational background in an easy-to-scan format. List your degree, the field of study, the institution where you earned it, and your graduation year. This clear structure assists in quick review and comprehension, both for the human eye and an ATS.

3. Highlighting the Degree's Relevance

When your degree directly corresponds to the job, make it a centerpiece of your Education section. This demonstrates to host families your foundational knowledge in childcare and development, setting you apart as a candidate with specialized training.

4. Relevant Courses, Seminars, and Workshops

If your role is highly oriented towards education or specialized childcare, detailing pertinent courses or seminars could add significant value. Mention coursework in education, developmental psychology, or related seminars to underline your expertise and dedication to child development.

5. Educational Highlights and Achievements

Was your education journey marked by distinctions, club memberships, or projects related to childcare? While keeping the focus on relevancy, sharing these achievements can further enrich your story, showing a blend of academic excellence and passion for the field.

Your Education section does more than list degrees; it underscores your foundational expertise and interest in childcare. Being strategic about what you include can significantly fortify your narrative, proving you're not just prepared academically but passionately invested in the children's developmental journey. Let this section reflect your commitment to excellence and growth as an Au Pair.

Certificates

In the realm of Au Pair roles, certifications can be golden tickets to proving your competence and commitment. Especially when the job description mentions 'Valid CPR and First Aid certification,' showcasing your qualifications becomes indispensable. Let's navigate through selecting and presenting certifications that make you stand out as the ideal candidate.

1. Align with Key Requirements

Start by listing certifications that the job description explicitly requires or prefers, such as your CPR and First Aid Certification from the American Red Cross. This directly ticks off a crucial prerequisite, showing prospective families that you're prepared for emergencies.

2. Prioritize Pertinent Certificates

Aim to include certifications that underline your expertise and dedication to childcare. An Early Childhood Education Certificate, for instance, reinforces your foundational knowledge and specialized skills, enhancing your appeal as a candidate.

3. Dates Matter

For certifications with validity periods, like your CPR certification, indicating the date of acquisition validates your claim and informs the host family of its current standing. This transparency boosts your credibility and reliability.

4. Continuous Learning

The childcare field is dynamic, and showing an ongoing commitment to learning through up-to-date certifications or pursuing new ones aligns you with the best practices in the field. This portrays you as a proactive and informed Au Pair, always ready to bring fresh, beneficial insights.

Your certifications are proof of your competencies and readiness. By highlighting relevant and current certifications, you not only comply with job requirements but also demonstrate your commitment to maintaining high standards. This section is your opportunity to shine as a well-prepared candidate, eager to provide the best care and enriching experiences for the children under your wing.

The Skills section of your resume is essentially your professional toolbox. For an Au Pair, both hard skills like nutrition knowledge and soft skills such as emotional intelligence play pivotal roles. Let's tailor this section to match the job description seamlessly, showcasing your prowess in both childcare and personal interaction.

1. Extract From Job Description

First off, pore over the job requirements to identify both stated and implied skills. For instance, "ensuring the safety and well-being" of children suggests the need for skills in problem-solving, emotional intelligence, and perhaps knowledge in basic nutrition and healthcare.

2. Match and Highlight

Align your skills with those mentioned or implied in the job description. Prioritize them based on relevance, starting with those most critical for the role – communication, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence should lead your list, followed by organizational and time management skills.

3. Clarity and Organization

Avoid crowding this section with every skill under the sun. Focus on a curated list that resonates with the needs of the role. This approach not only makes your resume more readable but also ensures that every skill mentioned underscores your suitability and readiness for the Au Pair position.

Your Skills section is a testament to what makes you the ideal Au Pair. It's where you assert that you not only have the necessary competencies but that you excel in them. Approach this section as both a showcase and a promise of the value you'll bring into your host family's life. With a well-crafted skills lineup, your resume becomes an irresistible proposition.

Language skills can be your secret weapon in the globalized world of childcare. Whether the job specifies a need for language proficiency or not, showcasing your linguistic abilities can set you apart. With fluency in English being a 'key skill' for this Au Pair position, let's navigate how to present your languages in a way that enhances your appeal.

1. Requirement Reflection

Highlighting your native or fluent proficiency in English, as required by the job description, is your first order of business. This establishes your ability to communicate effectively with the host family and in a majority of situations you might encounter.

2. Additional Languages

Following your proficiency in English, listing other languages you're comfortable with, such as Spanish at an intermediate level, hints at your ability to engage with broader communities or even assist in the children's multilingual development.

3. Be Honest with Proficiency

Clarity about your language proficiency levels – whether it's native, fluent, intermediate, or basic – ensures transparent communication about your capabilities. Being upfront about this allows families to gauge how you might fit into their specific needs or environments.

4. Language as a Cultural Bridge

Understanding and speaking multiple languages is not just about communication; it's about connecting cultures. Especially for families looking for an Au Pair to introduce new cultural perspectives, your language skills can be a significant plus.

5. Tailoring to the Job

If the role hints at interactions beyond the immediate family – perhaps in a multicultural neighborhood or with relatives overseas – showcasing a range of language skills can be particularly appealing. It positions you as an Au Pair capable of navigating diverse environments with ease and confidence.

Your language skills are more than mere competencies; they're avenues to build deeper connections, foster understanding, and provide enriched experiences for the children under your care. Highlighting these skills on your resume illustrates your potential as a globally-minded and versatile Au Pair, ready to bring a wealth of perspectives to your host family's world. Let your linguistic prowess shine as a reflection of your adaptability and cultural savvy.

The Summary section is your resume's handshake—an introduction that sets the tone and invites the reader to learn more about you. In a few succinct sentences, you need to encapsulate your experience, skills, and what makes you uniquely suited for the Au Pair role. Let's craft a summary that captures your essence and directly corresponds with the host family's needs.

1. Digest the Job Essentials

Start by thoroughly understanding the job requirements. For this Au Pair role, emphasizing your '3 years of dedicated experience in providing quality childcare' aligns perfectly with the responsibilities and demonstrates your relevance right off the bat.

2. Introduce Yourself

Your opening sentence should serve as a bold introduction to who you are professionally. Mentioning your role ("Au Pair") and your years of experience immediately situates you within the narrative as a seasoned, competent candidate.

3. Highlight Your Unique Value

Point out key skills and accomplishments next. Emphasizing your ability to foster 'positive relationships with host families' and 'organizing creative activities to enhance learning and growth' directly speaks to the heart of what families are looking for.

4. Conciseness Is Key

While it might be tempting to include every detail of your experience and skills, the summary's effectiveness lies in its brevity. Aim for 3-5 impactful sentences that invite further reading, making the hiring manager eager to explore the rest of your resume.

Your Summary is the opening act, setting the stage for everything that follows in your resume. Craft it with intention, using it to highlight your suitability for the Au Pair role in a way that is both concise and compelling. This snapshot of your professional identity is an invitation to delve deeper into your story, making it an integral part of making a memorable first impression.

Au Pair CV format and structure

Hiring managers and recruiters are frequently overloaded with applications, and if they can’t identify the relevant information in your CV within a few seconds, your application may be overlooked.

To avoid this, it’s essential to format and structure your CV in a manner that makes it simple to pick out the most important information, even if the reader is in a rush.

How to write a CV

Tips for formatting your Au Pair CV

  • Length: Two sides of A4 makes for the perfect CV length , though one page is okay for less experienced applicants. This forces you to make sure that every single sentence adds value to your CV and ensures you avoid unnecessary  info.
  • Readability : By clearly formatting your section headings (bold, or a different colour font, do the trick) and breaking up big chunks of text into snappy bullet points, time-strapped recruiters will be able to skim through your CV with ease.
  • Design & format: While it’s okay to add your own spin to your CV, avoid overdoing the design. If you go for something elaborate, you might end up frustrating recruiters who, above anything, value simplicity and clarity.
  • Photos: Profile photos or aren’t a requirement for most industries, so you don’t need to add one in the UK – but if you do, just make sure it looks professional

Quick tip: Creating a professional CV style can be difficult and time-consuming when using Microsoft Word or Google Docs. To create a winning CV quickly, try our quick-and-easy CV Builder and use one of their eye-catching professional CV templates.

CV formatting tips

CV structure

When writing your CV , break up the content into the following key sections, to ensure it can be easily digested by busy recruiters and hiring managers:

  • Contact details – Always list these at the very top of your CV – you don’t want them to be missed!
  • Profile – An introductory paragraph, intended to grab recruiters attention and summarise your offering.
  • Work experience / career history – Working from your current role and working backwards, list your relevant work experience.
  • Education – Create a snappy summary of your education and qualifications.
  • Interest and hobbies – An optional section to document any hobbies that demonstrate transferable skills.

Now you understand the basic layout of a CV, here’s what you should include in each section of yours.

Contact Details

Contact details

Tuck your contact details into the corner of your CV, so that they don’t take up too much space. Stick to the basic details, such as:

  • Mobile number
  • Email address – It should sound professional, such as your full name.
  • Location -Just write your rough location, rather than your full address.
  • LinkedIn profile or portfolio URL – If you include these, ensure they’re sleek, professional and up-to-date.

Au Pair CV Profile

Your CV profile is the first thing recruiters will read – so your goal is to give them a reason to read onto the end of the document!

Create a short and snappy paragraph that showcases your key skills, relevant experience and impressive accomplishments.

Ultimately, it should prove to the reader that you’ve got what it takes to carry out the job.

CV profile

How to write a good CV profile:

  • Make it short and sharp: Aim for a short, snappy paragraph of 3-5 lines. This is just enough room to showcase why you’d make the perfect hire, without going into excessive detail and overwhelming busy recruiters.
  • Tailor it: Before writing your CV, make sure to do some research. Figure out exactly what your desired employers are looking for and make sure that you are making those requirements prominent in your CV profile, and throughout.
  • Don’t add an objective: Avoid discussing your career goals in your CV profile – if you think they’re necessary, briefly mention them in your cover letter instead.
  • Avoid generic phrases: Clichés like “ blue-sky thinker with a go-getter attitude” might sound impressive to you, but they don’t actually tell the recruiter much about you. Concentrate on highlighting hard facts and skills, as recruiters are more likely to take these on board.

Example CV profile for Au Pair

What to include in your au pair cv profile.

  • Experience overview: Demonstrate your suitability for your target jobs by giving a high level summary of your previous work work experience , including the industries you have worked in, types of employer, and the type of roles you have previous experience of.
  • Targeted skills: Make your most relevant Au Pair key skills clear in your profile. These should be tailored to the specific role you’re applying for – so make sure to check the job description first, and aim to match their requirements as closely as you can.
  • Important qualifications: If the jobs you are applying to require candidates to have certain qualifications, then you must add them in your profile to ensure they are seen by hiring managers.

Quick tip: If you are finding it difficult to write an attention-grabbing CV profile, choose from hundreds of pre-written profiles across all industries, and add one to your CV with one click in our quick-and-easy CV Builder . All profiles are written by recruitment experts and easily tailored to suit your unique skillset.

Core skills section

Underneath your profile, write a core skills section to make your most relevant skills jump off the page at readers.

It should be made up of 2-3 columns of bullet points of your relevant skills.

Before you do this, look over the job description and make a list of any specific skills, specialisms or knowledge required.

Then, make sure to use your findings in your list. This will paint you as the perfect match for the role.

Core skills section CV

Work experience

Next up is your work experience section, which is normally the longest part of your CV.

Start with your current (or most recent) job and work your way backwards through your experience.

Can’t fit all your roles? Allow more space for your recent career history and shorten down descriptions for your older roles.

Work experience

Structuring each job

The structure of your work experience section can seriously affect its impact.

This is generally the biggest section of a CV, and with no thought to structure, it can look bulky and important information can get lost.

Use my 3-step structure below to allow for easy navigation, so employers can find what they are looking for:

Role descriptions

Firstly, give the reader some context by creating a punchy summary of the job as a whole.

You should mention what the purpose or goal of your role was, what team you were part of and who you reported to.

Key responsibilities

Using easy-to-read bullet points, note down your day-to-day responsibilities in the role.

Make sure to showcase how you used your hard sector skills and knowledge.

Key achievements

Lastly, add impact by highlight 1-3 key achievements  that you made within the role.

Struggling to think of an achievement? If it had a positive impact on your company, it counts.

For example, you might increased company profits, improved processes, or something simpler, such as going above and beyond to solve a customer’s problem.

Sample job description for Au Pair CV

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare meals, taking into consideration allergies and preferences
  • Assist children with homework, ensuring that they complete their tasks on time
  • Provide transportation to and from school and extra-curricular activities, ensuring that the children arrive on time and safely with the correct equipment
  • Maintain a clean and organised home environment, completing light housekeeping duties such as laundry, dishes, and vacuuming

Quick tip: Create impressive job descriptions easily in our quick-and-easy CV Builder by adding pre-written job phrases for every industry and career stage.

Education section

Next up, you should list your education and qualifications.

This can include your formal qualifications (a degree, A-Levels and GCSEs), as well as sector-specific Au Pair qualifications and/or training.

While school leavers and recent grads should include a lot of detail here to make up for the lack of work experience, experienced candidates may benefit from a shorter education section, as your work experience section will be more important to recruiters.

Hobbies and interests

This section is entirely optional, so you’ll have to use your own judgement to figure out if it’s worth including.

If your hobbies and interests could make you appear more suitable for your dream job, then they are definitely worth adding.

Interests which are related to the industry, or hobbies like sports teams or volunteering, which display valuable transferable skills might be worth including.

A strong, compelling CV is essential to get noticed and land interviews with the best employers.

To ensure your CV stands out from the competition, make sure to tailor it to your target role and pack it with sector-specific skills and results.

Remember to triple-check for spelling and grammar errors before hitting send.

Good luck with the job search!

How to include your au pair experience in your CV?

How to include your au pair experience in your CV?

Laurie · 10/05/2022

After an au pair stay, it can be interesting for you to highlight this experience on your resume in order to promote yourself 🚀 in your future projects. It is an asset that you should use to your advantage.

Do you want to advance and continue your studies or find a job 💼 ? We give you the keys to help you highlight the fact that you were an au pair abroad 🌎.

How do you add the au pair experience to your resume?

Before you even start, you need to think about what you're going to write. Our first advice is that you should always make your resume 📄 adapted to the situation . I mean, if you want to get a job as a seasonal waiter, for example, writing that you are bilingual in a language 🗣️ is something to emphasize, while having done an internship in compatibility is less so.

Write down the aim of your au pair stay

When you decided to leave as an au pair, it was probably for a reason: to learn a new language, to discover a different culture, to gain experience in childcare, etc. It can be interesting for your future employer to know why you decided to become an au pair . It shows that you are determined to achieve your goal. Do not hesitate to specify whether you managed to achieve it and by what means or why you failed. ⚠️ Don't be embarrassed to say that you failed because knowing how to step back and determine the causes of failure is a useful skill in the professional world. 👉 Read our article “ 5 reasons why you should become an au pair ”.

Be specific in describing your experience

Always remember that your CV has to fit the situation, the job, or the school you are applying to 📘 so you may have to keep some things short and others detailed. So you may need to keep some things short and others detailed. We recommend describing:

  • The duration of your stay , as well as the daily tasks you will be doing.
  • The family situation (single parent, nuclear, number of children and their ages, etc.)
  • If you were taking language courses outside your working hours.

Include-your-au-pair-experience-CV

Here is an example ⬆️ we have the duration, the family situation, as well as the au pair's assignments and the goal of the au pair experience. It lacks precision, but that is probably the purpose of the CV. In order to adapt to the role you are applying for , it might be interesting for you not to elaborate too much. Then, that gives your interviewer the opportunity to ask you questions about it. However, detailing your experience abroad helps to justify your skills 💪.

List the skills developed or acquired thanks to your au pair experience

During your au pair experience, you have certainly acquired some skills . It is the transferable skills (those that you can use in the workplace) that interest your future boss . Furthermore, having properly detailed your experiences will make it easier for you to demonstrate how you developed or acquired them.

For example, looking after children, managing the house, taking university courses, visiting the country or other things justify your organizational skills 📅 and how you prioritize .

Butrfly tip: don't hesitate to say in your interview which skills you want to develop further, how and why.

Why should you emphasize your au pair experience?

Even if you don't realize it yet, your experience abroad has given you a lot as a person , and this will give you an advantage over others in the future.

5 reasons why your au pair experience will be appreciated by your future employer

  • Fluent language 🗣️

Obviously, being bilingual or fluent is interesting for your future manager. Then, if you haven't already done so, consider taking a test to prove your level (TCF, DELF or whatever).

  • Adaptability 🪖

Without realizing it, you have developed this skill by stepping out of your comfort zone, by mixing for X amount of time with another culture, by radically changing your way of life, you have acquired this ability. It's a real asset in the working world .

Another quality that employers like in their employees is that they are mature. Going au pair means becoming more responsible, independent and growing up much faster with new responsibilities to manage.

  • Ability to build relationships 🤝

Being on your own in a new country means starting from scratch and making friends. Being an au pair also means strengthening your ability to build relationships with people from a different culture. It also shows your ability to live in a multicultural environment .

  • Problem-solving skills 🧩

Life as an au pair is not all rosy, especially at the beginning. You had to face challenges that you had never dealt with before, especially in a foreign language. Solving these problems has potentially made you a person who analyses the situation and makes well-considered and effective decisions .

Updating your online profile

If you have a LinkedIn profile, now is the time to update it. The same goes for your Indeed or other profile. It is not uncommon for schools, but especially employers, to look at the profile of candidates who apply . In order to get external offers, you can also think about using relevant keywords to gain visibility.

Butrfly tip: when you create your profile, you can put a link to your LinkedIn profile where you give more details of your previous experience.

A resume objective is a brief statement that outlines your career goals and objectives, and should be tailored specifically for an au pair position. When writing a resume objective for an au pair role, it’s important to highlight your qualifications and experience that make you the ideal candidate. Focus on your unique skills and abilities, such as being bilingual or having childcare experience. Additionally, include any certifications or special training that may be relevant to the job.

For example, a resume objective for an au pair position might read: “Experienced childcare professional with six years of experience in providing exceptional care to children of all ages. Key Skills to Highlight in Your Au Pair Resume Objective

In the competitive field of childcare, having a well-crafted resume is crucial for aspiring au pairs. One essential part of your resume is the objective, where you have the opportunity to immediately grab the attention of potential families or agencies. This section should not only clarify your career goals but also highlight your key skills that make you an excellent fit for the role. In this section, we will discuss some of the most important skills to emphasize in your au pair resume objective to help you stand out from other candidates.

1. Childcare

An Au Pair is primarily responsible for taking care of children in a household. This includes tasks such as feeding, bathing, and entertaining the children, as well as helping with their development and education. Therefore, having childcare skills is essential for this job role. It demonstrates that the applicant has experience and knowledge in child development and can ensure the safety and wellbeing of the children they are entrusted with. This skill also shows that the candidate is capable of managing any potential issues or emergencies related to the children's care.

An Au Pair is often responsible for preparing meals for the children they are taking care of. Having cooking skills ensures that they can provide nutritious and balanced meals. This skill also demonstrates their ability to take on household responsibilities, showcasing their independence and reliability. It's a practical skill that adds value to their service, making them more appealing to potential families.

3. First Aid

An Au Pair is responsible for taking care of children in a household, which often includes tasks like feeding, bathing, and transporting them to various activities. Having First Aid skills is crucial because it ensures the safety and well-being of the children under their care. It enables the Au Pair to respond effectively to any emergencies or accidents that may occur, providing immediate care until professional medical help arrives. This skill can also reassure parents that their children are in capable and competent hands.

4. Language Proficiency

An Au Pair is typically responsible for providing childcare services in a foreign country, therefore language proficiency is crucial. This skill is needed for a resume objective to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with both the children and the host family. It also shows that the candidate can easily adapt to a new cultural environment, help children with their language homework, and manage day-to-day tasks such as grocery shopping or liaising with local services.

5. Tutoring

An Au Pair is often responsible for assisting children with their homework and educational development. Having tutoring skills indicates that the candidate can effectively help children understand and learn their school material, which is a key part of the role. It also shows that the candidate has patience, communication skills, and the ability to simplify complex concepts - all of which are important in managing and educating children.

6. Housekeeping

An Au Pair is often responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of their host family's home, especially areas used by the children they care for. Having housekeeping skills ensures that they can effectively carry out these tasks. This skill is also a reflection of an individual's ability to manage time, multitask, and pay attention to detail. Including this in a resume objective shows potential employers that the candidate is capable of creating a clean, organized, and healthy environment for the family they will be working with.

7. Time Management

An Au Pair is responsible for taking care of children, managing their daily activities, and ensuring their safety. Effective time management skills are crucial as they need to balance various tasks such as preparing meals, assisting with homework, arranging playdates and activities, and maintaining the cleanliness of the children's areas. This skill also ensures that all tasks are completed within the stipulated time frame and any emergencies or unexpected situations can be handled efficiently.

8. Conflict Resolution

An Au Pair often works in a family setting, taking care of children and assisting with household duties. Conflict resolution is an essential skill for this job as it involves interacting with different personalities and managing various situations that may arise within the household. This could include disputes between siblings, disagreements over tasks or rules, or misunderstandings with parents. Being able to effectively resolve conflicts demonstrates strong communication skills, patience, understanding, and the ability to maintain a harmonious environment - all of which are desirable traits in an Au Pair.

9. Cultural Adaptability

An Au Pair is often required to live with a host family in a foreign country, hence cultural adaptability is crucial. This skill ensures that the Au Pair can quickly and effectively adjust to new environments, customs, and practices. It also enables them to communicate effectively with the host family, understand their values and traditions, and provide appropriate care for the children within that cultural context. In the resume objective, highlighting this skill can demonstrate an applicant's readiness and capability to handle the unique challenges of this role.

10. Emotional Intelligence

An Au Pair is responsible for taking care of children in a domestic setting, often in a different country. Emotional intelligence is crucial as they need to understand and respond appropriately to the emotional needs and development of the children they are caring for. They also need to manage their own emotions effectively in potentially stressful situations or when dealing with homesickness or cultural differences. This skill can help them build strong relationships with both the children and their parents, ensuring a harmonious living environment.

Top 10 Au Pair Skills to Add to Your Resume Objective

In conclusion, your Au Pair resume objective should effectively showcase a range of key skills that demonstrate your ability to excel in this role. These skills should not only highlight your competence in child care but also your capacity to adapt to new environments and cultures, communicate effectively, and manage various tasks. Remember, the objective is the first thing potential employers read; hence it needs to be compelling and indicative of your value proposition. Tailoring these skills to meet the specific demands of each family will significantly increase your chances of securing an Au Pair position.

Common Mistakes When Writing an Au Pair Resume Objective

Au pair resume objectives are an important part of the application process. They provide employers with a brief overview of your qualifications and goals, as well as giving them an idea of what you can bring to the role. Unfortunately, mistakes in writing au pair resume objectives are common. Here are some tips on how to avoid these mistakes and ensure that your resume objective makes a great first impression.

Firstly, it is important to keep your au pair resume objective concise and clear. Many applicants make the mistake of including too much information or making their objective too long-winded. Employers want a quick snapshot of who you are and what you can do for them, so make sure to keep your objective short and sweet. Additionally, focus on the skills and experience that are most relevant to the position you’re applying for, rather than providing a lengthy list of all your qualifications and background information.

Another common mistake when writing au pair resume objectives is not tailoring it specifically enough to the job at hand. It’s important to demonstrate why you are particularly suited for this particular position, rather than simply listing generic reasons why you would be a good fit for any role in childcare or childcare-related fields. Showcase specific experiences or skills that have prepared you for working as an au pair, such as having previous experience caring for children or being certified in CPR or first aid.

Finally, make sure that your au pair resume objective is free from typos and grammatical errors. This may seem obvious but many people still overlook this crucial detail when submitting their resumes! Poor grammar will give employers the impression that you don’t take care with details or lack attention to detail - both qualities which are essential for successful work as an au pair!

By avoiding these common mistakes when writing an au pair resume objective, you can ensure that employers get a great first impression of your qualifications and abilities - setting yourself up for success in the application process!

Body of British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch's daughter found after Sicily shipwreck search, sources say

Rescue teams have recovered the body of  Mike Lynch's daughter Hannah after the family's luxury yacht sank on Monday.

Divers resumed a search on Friday local time after Mr Lynch's body was recovered from the shipwreck on Thursday.

What's next?

A judicial investigation has been opened into the sinking, which has baffled naval marine experts.

The body of Mike Lynch's 18-year-old daughter Hannah has been recovered from the site of a shipwreck off Sicily, sources told Reuters.

She was the only person still unaccounted-for since the British tech magnate's family yacht sank this week, killing him and six others.

Italian emergency services resumed their search on Friday and rescue divers recovered the body hours later.

A spokesperson for Mr Lynch's family said they are devastated and in shock, in a statement on Friday.

"The Lynch family is devastated, in shock and is being comforted and supported by family and friends," their statement said.

"Their thoughts are with everyone affected by the tragedy. They would like to sincerely thank the Italian coastguard, emergency services and all those who helped in the rescue."

"Their one request now is that their privacy be respected at this time of unspeakable grief."

The British-flagged Bayesian, a 56-metre-long superyacht carrying 22 passengers and crew, was anchored off the port of Porticello, near Palermo, when it capsized and sank on Monday within minutes of being struck by a pre-dawn storm.

A judicial investigation has been opened into the sinking, which has baffled naval marine experts, who say a boat like the Bayesian, built by Italian high-end yacht manufacturer Perini, should have withstood the storm.

The CEO of The Italian Sea Group TISGR.MI, which owns Perini, said the shipwreck was the result of a string of "indescribable, unreasonable errors" made by the crew, but ruled out any design or construction failings.

"The boat suffered a series of indescribable, unreasonable errors, the impossible happened on that boat … but it went down because it took on water. From where, the investigators will tell," Giovanni Costantino said.

Pulling the wreck out of the sea, where it is now lying on its right side, apparently intact, at a depth of about 50 metres, may help investigators determine what happened to it, but the operation is likely to be complex and costly.

Nick Sloane, the South African engineer who led the operation to salvage the Costa Concordia cruise liner that sank in 2012, said in Italian media interviews on Friday that the operation would cost around 15 million euros ($25 million).

He told La Repubblica newspaper the yacht's salvage would have to be completed by mid-October, and take six to eight weeks, including preparation work.

Bringing the yacht to the surface will have to be done "very, very slowly", and might take a couple of days, he said.

WNBA players would like more time off after the Olympics are over before league play resumes

The WNBA didn’t waste anytime returning to the hardwood after the Olympics and the quick turnaround following the Paris Games is something players may look to change in the next collective bargaining agreement.

Teams started playing games four days after the Paris Games ended, including Breanna Stewart and the New York Liberty, who opened up in Los Angeles — a nine-hour time difference after her time in France.

“I think that even in a non-Olympic year, you think about All-Star, it’s like, everybody needs some time after All-Star break, or it’s not a break. So trying to kind of push that into the CBA, I think would be really important,” she told The Associated Press. “Especially following the Olympics, because we’ve never had an Olympics in a 40-game season, except this season.”

Players or the league could opt out of the current CBA at the end of this season.

The quick turnaround didn’t seem to hurt New York, which had four players and its head coach competing in the Paris Games. The Liberty swept a pair of games from Los Angeles and Las Vegas to remain solidly atop the standings and clinch a playoff spot.

Image

Stewart understands the league, which has all this momentum behind it, doesn’t want to go longer without having games after taking the break.

“From the W’s perspective, I’m sure they’re like, well, we don’t want to be not showing games for an entire month or a month plus. But at the same time, understanding the players’ perspective I think is really important,” she said. “It’s wild, from Paris to the West Coast, so it’s just like, not an ideal situation.”

The Liberty forward said “unfortunately” players are put in situations like these a lot.

“It’s like, onto the next, onto the next, onto the next, where we kind of even really celebrate what we did, of winning a gold medal, as much as you would want to.”

The Aces split their first two games and A’ja Wilson would have loved a few more days to recover after helping the U.S. win it’s eighth consecutive gold medal. Las Vegas was one of the lucky teams that didn’t start play until Saturday.

“I definitely needed some time to decompress. Playing USAB (is) a whole other thought and mind process that you might not necessarily have to exert that much energy when you play with your respective team,” Wilson said. “So definitely needed just a couple of days just to kind of decompress, whether that’s just get back into the flow of things, or just get my feet underneath me, because that was a long time away with a lot of just back and forth.”

Wilson said she’d be in favor of the players discussing getting more time off.

“I think if it is a chance for us to go to the table and say, ‘Hey, we should get more rest time,’ even if it’s ... just a couple of days. It’s crazy to see players play fresh off of a plane in a sense. So yeah, I don’t mind asking for that.”

Phoenix, Chicago and Los Angeles all played three games in a four-day span to tipoff the second half of their seasons.

Fortunately from the Olympics standpoint, the next one is in Los Angeles, so travel will be less of an issue for USAB players.

AP WNBA poll

New York remains in the top spot in this week’s AP WNBA power poll followed by Minnesota, Las Vegas and Connecticut. Indiana, Seattle and Phoenix were next with Atlanta and Chicago eighth and ninth. Dallas, Washington and Los Angeles rounded out the poll.

Caitlin corner

Clark finally had some time to rest during the break after going non-stop for nearly a year between college and her rookie season. She had a solid first two games back, helping the Indiana Fever beat Phoenix and Seattle.

She broke the previous WNBA rookie record for assists of 224 by Ticha Penicheiro in 1998 and now has 232 on the season. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 draft has scored at least 20 points in five of her last six games. She is averaging 23.7 points on 47% shooting from the field, and 11.7 assists over that span. Indiana has one game this week at Minnesota on Saturday as the team looks to continue to solidify a playoff spot.

Trading places

The Washington Mystics traded forward Myisha Hines-Allen to Minnesota for a 2026 second round pick, forward Sika Koné and guard Olivia Époupa. The Mystics then waived Époupa and guard DiDi Richards.

Player of the week

Clark earned AP Player of the Week honors as she averaged 25.3 points, 5 rebounds and 9.5 assists to help Indiana go 2-0. Sabrina Ionescu of New York, Wilson and Napheesa Collier of Minnesota also received votes.

Game of the week

Connecticut at New York, Saturday. The Liberty look to further distance themselves from the second-place Sun in the standings. New York has swept the first three meetings between the two teams this year.
