  1. Gattaca movie review & film summary (1997)

The tension comes in two ways. First, there's the danger that Vincent will be detected; the area is swept daily, and even an eyelash can betray him. Second, there's a murder; a director of the center, who questions the wisdom of the upcoming shot, is found dead, and a detective (Alan Arkin) starts combing the personnel for suspects.

  4. 'Gattaca': A Fully Imagined Future

Vincent is in genetic disguise because he dreams of being one of Gattaca's astronauts, who in a film like this wear dark business suits rather than space gear. 10. Gattaca

10/24/1997. In Andrew Niccol's feature debut, Gattaca, the writer-director crafts a paranoid, discriminatory world out of ripped-from-the-headlines science. Adopting a noirish mood amid an austere dystopian backdrop, it's the sort of Orwellian vision that could only exist in a movie. Every detail—including the sleek production values ...

  14. Gattaca (1997)

Gattaca is a brilliant under-rated piece of cinema that the not-too-distant future will, in retrospect, see it as one of the more outstanding movies of the nineties. It is prolific, stylish, thought-provoking, and one of the few recent science fiction movies that totally foregoes special effects and does it well.

  15. Gattaca

Gattaca (United States, 1997) A movie review by James Berardinelli. ... This is the chillingly feasible premise of Gattaca. While in 1997, science has not yet perfected the genetic engineering techniques used in this film to routinely develop babies, every day brings the medical profession closer.

  16. Gattaca Movie Review

Our review: Parents say (12 ): Kids say (18 ): Gattaca is a familiar story -- a high-concept movie that starts well, but falls prey to lazy storytelling. Its concept is strong enough to deliver a future dystopia worthy of a future noir like Blade Runner. However, by its end, the film's hollow retro-1950s style is one that only seasoned film ...

  17. Revisiting Andrew Niccol's Gattaca in the Age of CRISPR

"Gattaca" raised these questions before I ever had to face them. The film might have flopped at the box office, grossing $12.5 million worldwide on an estimated $36 million budget, but it has a legion of fans, among them NASA scientists who in 2011 named it the best science-fiction movie ever made.("Jurassic Park," with its own genetic snipping, also landed among NASA's seven favorites.)

  19. How 1997 Sci-Fi Movie Gattaca Got Its Title

The crux of "Gattaca" is Vincent's efforts to impersonate Jerome Eugene Marrow (Jude Law), an ex-swimmer with an off-the-charts genetic profile who is currently wheelchair-bound after a car accident.

  20. Gattaca Ending Explained: Why did Jerome Kill Himself?

Right from the opening credits, 'Gattaca' promises to be a different experience. That promise partly delivers and even falters slightly in some parts, but for all its alluring qualities, I have always preferred imperfect sci-fi movies that have something new to say; something resonant, something that even mirrors the society that we currently live in, […]

The direction is subtle, emotional, and focused. The color palettes are stunning. The score is simply sublime. And the story - the story - it's just SO good! Ethan Hawke, Jude Law, Alan Arkin, and Uma Thurman are all brilliant. And, fun fact, author Gore Vidal also stars in it! Gattaca is just timeless.

  24. 'Eureka' Review: No More Cowboys and Indians

Ultimately, the film feels a bit misshapen. A third act set in the jungles of Brazil in the 1970s depicts tribe members discussing their livelihoods as gold prospectors encroach on their lands.
