Love Destiny The Movie (บุพเพสันนิวาส๒) is a historical comedy-drama directed by Adisorn Tresirikasem and is based on the novel Buphaphonniwat by Romphaeng. It is a sequel to the 2018 Thai TV show Buphaphonniwat . The movie has a runtime of 165 minutes and stars Thanavat Vatthanaputi, Ranee Campen and Paris Intarakomalyasut, alongside other cast members.

Netflix’s description of the movie reads:

Bhop dreams of a woman he loved in another life, believing he’s destined to find her again. But a mysterious time traveler obstructs his plan.

– Love Destiny The Movie Review Does Not Contain Spoilers –

When you dare to sell off your ancestral gun without your dead mother’s permission, your angry (and very dead) mother sends you to the Rattanakosin Period to teach you a lesson. Love Destiny The Movie starts off with a rather ridiculous notion and continues to be rather light-hearted.

For those who haven’t watched the TV series, don’t worry; you won’t be drowning while watching the movie. Love Destiny The Movie gives us a subtle rundown of where we stand with respect to the movie and why time travel is included in this movie, although goofily. Thus, if you’re intrigued by the name, which does seem to be perfect during the holiday season, you’re not going to be left confused.

With that out of the way, Love Destiny The Movie ’s rather goofy humour is quite infectious. Sure, you’re not going to sit there laughing your butt off, but it sure is amusing. Everyone is a bit over-the-top, and their actions are just a bit too much sometimes, but it goes well with the overall tone of the movie, which in itself isn’t too serious an affair.

Sometimes, the movie does take the silly humour a bit too seriously, and Bhop following Gaysorn around goes down stalker routes, so at times, it gave me the ick about how insistent he is to marry the literal girl of his dream. It’s also a little odd to note that Bhop doesn’t take Gaysorn’s wants and concerns into account and incessantly pesters her for a love affair even though she’s not interested. He pouts and throws a tantrum like a little child, which, you know, doesn’t make me like him as a character too much.

Destiny aside, Gaysorn, who is the reincarnation of Karaket, doesn’t remember her past or her relationship with Bhop, then Dej. Thus, instead of taking it slow, he immediately jumped to getting re-engaged with her, which didn’t sit right with me. Gaysorn, thankfully, doesn’t take this easy and has a good head on her shoulders, so that’s great to watch.

At 2 hours 45 minutes, Love Destiny The Movie might feel a bit too much as some scenes go on for too long. However, for the most part, it’s fun to watch, especially because the characters are so dramatic, and most of the time, it’s ridiculous. There’s a scene where Bhop’s mother drinks wine for the first time, her reaction is just so silly that it’s funny.

But, of course, the movie isn’t going to be for everyone. If you’re expecting this to be some deep rom-com, you’ll be disappointed. This isn’t that kind of movie, but it does make some profound points regarding destiny and how some love stories stay true for soulmates in every life. But where do Mathus and his time travelling ways work into this love story? I guess you’ll have to figure that out for yourself!

The film is really well produced and looks absolutely magical. For a casual watch, Love Destiny The Movie will mesmerise you. The costume and set design are immaculate and, honestly, will make you forget that you started this movie off with Mathus wearing an Akatsuki shirt. The colours are vibrant and deep, and the actors look so good in every frame; for a moment there, I wanted to wear Gaysorn’s pretty clothes, even if for a minute!

Summing Up: Love Destiny The Movie

Love Destiny The Movie is a soft watch that is great for an easy time. It’s about love that transcends time, destiny and a history that binds people years apart. It’s a good watch if you’re not in the mood for anything serious and just want to lay back and relax.

ก็บันเทิงดีนะ โดยเฉพาะคู่รักข้างๆ นัวเนียกันไม่พักเลย รักกันปานจะกลืนกิน แทบจะรวมร่างกันอยู่แล้ว นึกว่าอะไรแบบนี้จะเกิดขึ้นแค่กับโรงที่คนน้อยๆ นี่คนเต็มโรงก็หยุดพวกเขาไม่ได้จริงๆ

ไม่ได้มีอะไรใหม่จนทำให้ต้องว้าวขนาดนั้น แต่ก็พอดูเพลินไปได้เราชอบเรื่องการที่เอาเกร็ดประวัติศาสตร์ที่เกิดขึ้นจริงมาบิดเล่ามากๆ หลายๆอย่างถ้ามองเป็นหนังรอมคอมพีเรียด เป็นแฟนเซอร์วิสขายแฟนคลับ ก็ทำออกมาโอเคแล้ว แต่ก็ยังรู้สึกว่าช่วงกลางๆเรื่องยืดเยื้อพอสมควร 2 ชั่วโมง 40 เป็นอะไรที่ยาวไปหน่อย มองว่ารวบรัดอะไรได้อีกเยอะเลย

อ่าว ก็ไม่ได้แย่ขนาดนั้นหนิ  ตลอดการดูอดมองมันผ่านเลนส์ละครนิเทศจุฬาปีล่าสุดไม่ได้เลย (Tuesday at Ephémère นั่นแหละ) ทั้งในแง่พล็อตและอะไรทั้งหลาย เลยรู้สึกสนุกมาก ส่วนตัวไม่เคยดูบุพเพสันนิวาสมาก่อนเลย เลยรู้สึกเหมือนได้ตัดตัวเองเป็นคนดูที่ไม่รู้อะไรกับเรื่องราวมันเลย เลยรู้สึกว่าถ้าคนดูดูละครนิเทศที่เราทำแล้วรู้สึกประมาณนี้ก็ไม่เลวเลยนะ แต่องก์ 3 ไม่ไหวจริง ฆ่าผมที 555555

ตอนดูก็อดไตร่ตรองถึงหน้าที่ผู้กำกับไม่ได้เลย เมื่อทุกวันนี้ภาพยนตร์มันไม่ได้เป็น art for art’s sake ขนาดนั้นเพราะมันอยู่ในสายพานทุนนิยม ผมรู้สึงว่าพี่ปิ๊ง อดิสรณ์เขาก็ดูจะหล่อหลอมตัวเองเป็นคนงานคนนึงที่ผลักดันหนังเรื่องนี้ออกมาได้อย่างพอดิบพอดีไม่ต่างจากคนงานคนนึงเลย (ต้องยอมรับว่าคมและเป็นผู้ใหญ่กว่าสมัยรถไฟฟ้ามาก)

what a silly, silly film. countless nonsensical plot points aside, I haven’t had that much fun watching a movie in so long. the hammy acting underscored by the sound effects was soooo good, esp bhop’s little smile dings at the beginning. laws of physics went out were totally nonexistent by the end. what really got me was how bhop was only able to get gaystrom to fall in love with him was when he got skewered in the ass and had to get stitched up by the founder of the bangkok recorder, dan beach bradley. what a movie!!! is 2.5 hours too long for a slapstick time travel romp like this ? most definitely but i had the best time

ดีกว่าที่คิดนะ หนังทำให้เราเซอร์ไพร์สหลายฉาก ฉากที่ใส่และบทที่ใส่เข้ามาก็ดูไม่ยัดเยียด พล็อตถือว่าโอเคเลย อาจจะเบา ๆ ไปบ้าง มีงง ๆ และบทประหลาดบ้างบางฉาก แต่โดยรวมก็ถือว่าไม่ได้แย่เลย ตอนแรกคิดว่าจะแย่กว่านี้ เพราะด้วยความที่เป็นละครแล้วมาเป็นหนัง แถมยังเป็นหนังภาคต่อที่จะปูไปภาค 3 อีก แต่ปรากฎว่าไม่ได้แย่เลย  ถือว่าทำหนังออกมาได้แบบให้เกียรติคนดูจริง ๆ ละก็ภาพสวย ภาพละเอียดดีคับ

Love Destiny: The Movie will make the next move step of thai movie that it's adapation from drama/tv series to right way. but there are few disadvantages such as length of the movie is not related to the main story. It's spent more airtime (runtime is 2 hour 45 minute. I think it's not length as) towards for drama fans to enjoy the main actors 'Pope & Bella'. so it is considered a movie that nice choice in developed main idea adaptation from drama/tv series idea in this time.

‘Love Destiny The Movie’ takes Thai box office crown from ‘Doctor Strange’

‘Love Destiny The Movie’

Romantic comedy Love Destiny The Movie has become the biggest film at the Thai box office since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, overtaking superhero blockbuster Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness .

Adisorn Tresirikasem’s spin-off from the hit Thai TV drama series of the same name has earned $10.19m (THB 368m) nationwide as of August 22. It has surpassed Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness , which took $9.78m (THB 353m) following its release on May 4, and fellow Marvel superhero sequel Spider-Man: No Way Home , which took $6.52m (THB 235m) after its release on December 23, 2021.

Love Destiny The Movie is also the first film since the start of the pandemic in early 2020 to remain in first place at the Thai box office for 26 consecutive days.

Leading Thai production and sales outfit GDH 559 opened the film on July 28 and scored the biggest opening day and biggest opening weekend for a Thai film of the pandemic era , taking $4.9m (THB 177.78m) from July 28-31, which included $1.4m (THB 51.2m) on its first day.

In Thailand, the final episode of the original drama series earned 18.6 rating in 2018, according to Nielsen. It remains the highest viewership rating for a single Thai TV episode of all time.

In the feature, Ranee Campen and Thanavat Vatthanaputi reprise their roles as their characters reincarnate and meet again in the 16th century colonial era.

The popular drama series has been picked up by streaming platforms in Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China.

In Cambodia, the film was released by Westec Media and broke records as the biggest opening day (August 11) and biggest opening weekend (August 11-14) for a Thai film. Its next release will be in Vietnam by CJ HK Entertainment on September 1 and in Malaysia by Suraya Filem in October.

Love Destiny: The Movie

• Destined couple, Bhop and Gaysorn, have their love and beliefs challenged in the midst of savage threats during the expansion of colonial rule.
• After settling down together and only being separated in death during the Ayutthaya era (1351-1767 CE), Dej and Karaket are reborn in the early Rattanakosin period (1782-1855 CE). But there is only one of them who still believes in 'destiny'. Bhop, a chief engineer with the sweetest smile in Siam, has been seeing the same lady in his dreams for many years. He believes wholeheartedly that she is his destined soulmate. When Bhop meets Gaysorn who looks exactly like the girl in his dreams, Bhop follows her around, trying to win her heart. However, Gaysorn has a progressive attitude and does not believe in destiny. Gaysorn clearly expresses that she dislikes Bhop, but she is interested in Mathus, a Thai-Western man who uses strange slang when speaking, which happens to match the messages in an old journal of Lady Karaket. Did Mathus travel back in time from the future like Lady Karaket?. Their relationships have not been figured out, yet when Bhop, Gaysorn, and Mathus get caught up in a chaotic historical event, things get out of hand and could lead to a war that will change history forever. Where will destiny lead them?

Love and Destiny my thoughts on why it's popular.

SPOILERS NOT HIDDEN ON THIS THREAD

So awhile ago there was a post about the top Xianxia dramas from 2005 to 2022 according to douban.

Now the top two stops are taken by Chinese Paladin which I have yet to see, but I was rather surprised to see that Love and Destiny was number 3.

2005-2022 is a long time (even more surprising that CP1 held the number 1 spot this long definity gonna watch it)

I have seen Love and Destiny before and it is a good Xianxia, but I was curious why people put it above other very popular dramas such as Ashes, Eternal Love, LBFD, L&R.

My Mother in Law visited this week and each time she visits I pick one drama to watch with her that she has not seen. So this time I picked Love and Destiny and while rewatching it I think I realized why it's so popular and rated so high.

Other than Ni Ni being insanely pretty and overall very popular I felt that the relationship of the leads is what makes it so popular. And not just their chemistry which is pretty good and not just that Chang Chen looks like a God of War with his rough and more aged look (which I felt made him look very powerful and imposing especially when pared with the soft and small looking Ni Ni)

I think the primary reason is the relationship does not feel one sided. In many dramas especially Xianxia the ML is usually the one putting forth more effort and I mean it's usually a very typical the powerful ML saving and taking hits for the weak FL.

And while this is true in L&D, there is another aspect to it. And it's the amount of effort Ling Xi puts into helping Jiu Chen.

While rewatching it I discovered that the formula is basically this.

Jiu Chen does something to help/protect Ling Xi. The next seen we see Ling Xi doing something to support/help Jiu Chen.

For example anytime Jiu Chen uses his power and gets affected by his cold disease. Who is the one constantly by his side helping him? There are multiple times she does not sleep for days to fan him, she exhausts her magic fending off the cold multiple times. Locks herself away not eating or resting to take care of him multiple time. She makes a new medicine and tests it herself when the doctors refuse to help him.

And it's always one after the other with these scenes. Jiu Chen saves Ling Xi from death ripping out his heart in order to do so. Not understanding what is happening only knowing that he is hurt and exhausted Ling Xi goes through the painful process of giving up her hearing in order to secure him a new life source to make him better. Even thinking Jiu Chen betrayed her she still gives him the flame.

Even while on earth she cooks, and cleans, makes clothes and over all just takes care of him while he protects her.

And after her trial even feeling the way she does about him and recovering from an extremely traumatic period she still approaches the Heavenly King on her own accord to argue with the God of Heavenly Thunder and convince the King not to punish Jiu Chen.

I think it's this supportive give and take theme that makes this show so good.

Most of the other Xianxia feel one sides, yes there are moments when the FL helps the ML but these are usually spread apart. Where in L&D the theme of helping and supporting each other is present in every scene, scenario, trial, and plot and story arc.

Just my opinion and it could just be me but some of my favorite dramas such as Forever Love a drama I consider to be absolutely perfect from Start to finish and Reset while not perfect still both have these similar themes of give and take support and help no one if giving more or less into the story or relationship so it never feels one sided. And both are overall very popular dramas.

Like this movie but wish they would have leaned harder into the idea of connecting with someone over a radio show like the setup was earlier in the film. Love that premise and should have made up the majority of this movie. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan still prove they are a great duo in the rom com genre.
