Industrialization in Tanzania has been given greater priority by the Government in boosting economic development. Since agriculture is the mainstay of the Tanzania economy; it has a great role to play to help the country achieve this goal. This paper presents the role of Mobile Money Transfer (MMT) Services in enhancing women entrepreneurs in agro-processing and marketing. Both quantitative and qualitative data were used in this study. Primary data were collected from 128 agro-based women entrepreneurs within Morogoro Municipality, Secondary data were collected from network service providers, library and from the internet. The study identified that Mobile Money Transfer services facilitated activities of agribusiness women by reducing business transport costs, time saving and increased safety through mobile saving. The paper highlights challenges such as unstable network availability, higher transaction costs compared to bank and service agents problems. The paper concludes that in order for MMT services to have vast potential in speeding the industrialization process in Tanzania, assured network availability at any time and place as well as affordable services is crucial.

This study investigated the usage of non-cash payments through m-money services among students of the University of Iringa in Tanzania. A convenient sample of undergraduate students and business operators within and around the University campus was used. It was found that 80% of utility shops accepted non-cash payments through m-money, business operators were optimistic about the service although there were challenges related to transaction costs and network/sending errors. Approximately 81% of respondents frequently received money from their sponsors/relatives through their m-money accounts. About 63% of respondents made regular savings deposits on their mobile phones unlike their bank accounts. Over 60% used m-money services for non-cash payments and savings deposits. This has a significant implication for the recent movement from predominantly cash to non-cash payments as subscribers directly pay for their purchased items through their mobile phones without necessarily having cash at hand. Practical recommendations and a direction for further study are provided.

Business practices in Somalia have gone through many innovations. One of the most dynamics of these innovations has been mobile money transfers. Different telecom companies provide different brands of mobile money platforms. The study sought to determine the effects of mobile transaction costs on the financial performance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Mogadishu, Somalia. The study adopted a descriptive survey method which was conducted through administration of questionnaires. Data was collected from a sample of 146 SMEs in Bakara market using purposive sampling technique. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were then used to analyze data with the help of statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 21.0.The results of this study revealed that mobile money transaction costs affected financial performance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Mogadishu, Somalia.

Mobile Money Transfer (MMT) has marked a new frontier in mobile phone technology with an ever increasing number of micro businesses using it in their transactions to enhance performance. The number of uses to which Mobile Money Transfer (MMT) can be put keeps increasing with time. However, it is not clear how Mobile Money Transfer use influences the growth of SMEs. The study established that mobile money had made a significant contribution to the SME sector. Majority of the traders rely on it as opposed to the formal banking sector for their day to day transactions. Thus, this study achieved its objectives and obtained detailed information arising from the use of mobile money services by SMEs. In respect to the conceptual framework, mobile money transactional costs, convenience and financial accessibility have all been shown to affect SMEs growth through the service leading to increased enrolment in mobile money services, increased financial transactions resulting in increased sales and therefore perceivable contribution to business growth.
