The more specific you are in your cover letter, the better your chances of success. Show the hiring manager that you’re more than just talk . Providing specific evidence of how you have performed in the past could make all the difference to your application.

8. Add your signature

 It goes without saying that you should include your name to the end of the letter. However, add that personalized, executive touch, paste in your actual signature. Every company and executive has slightly different needs, so you should tailor your cover letter to each job accordingly. For instance, one executive may do a lot of traveling, so they’ll need help with itineraries, while another executive will want you to focus on answering calls and emails.

When contacting clients, you know it’s a good idea to research beforehand so that you can address them by name and relate to their needs. The same applies here; find the company’s mission statement and the name of the hiring manager. It’s a great way to lead off the greeting and intro of your cover letter. The opening paragraph should also be relevant to each company. You could reference a couple of top skills they’re seeking, like Google Calendar or Trello, and try to connect to the company’s mission.

It’s also a good idea to say thank you and use a light call to action, just like you would do with a customer you want to hear back from when you email them. 

What you don’t want to do is be overly informal or disrespectful.

Usually, executive positions will look for applicants to be more formal. However, you should still review the job description and try to match its tone. It’s the same way you’d try to match a client’s tone when responding to their email to better relate to their needs. 

You should limit your cover letter to one page. Executive roles involve working in fast-paced environments. Keep your cover letter concise and relevant to the requirements of the position to avoid losing a hiring manager’s attention.

FIRST ON FOX: A dozen Republican White House lawyers who served in the administrations of then-Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush are endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris in her race against GOP nominee former President Donald Trump.

"We endorse Kamala Harris and support her election as President because we believe that returning former President Trump to office would threaten American democracy and undermine the rule of law in our country," the lawyers wrote in a letter that the signatories shared first with Fox News Digital.

The letter was released on Friday, the day after Harris delivered her nomination acceptance speech in the culminating moment of the Democratic National Convention, which was held in Chicago.

The signatories added that "we urge all patriotic Republicans, former Republicans, conservative and center-right citizens, and independent voters to place love of country above party and ideology and join us in supporting Kamala Harris."

The list includes Michael Luttig, the prominent right-of-center legal scholar and retired federal appeals court judge who previously served as assistant counsel to the president in the Reagan White House. Luttig made headlines at the start of the week by endorsing Harris as the Democrats' convention kicked off.

The letter notes, "Donald Trump’s own Vice President and multiple members of his Administration and White House Staff at the most senior levels – as well as former Republican nominees for President and Vice President – have already declined to endorse his reelection."

Those signing the letter pointed to what they called "the profound risks presented by his [Trump's] potential return to public office. Indeed, Trump’s own Attorney General and National Security Adviser have said unequivocally that Donald Trump is unfit for office, dangerous, and detached from reality."

And pointing to the then-president's attempts to reverse the results of his 2020 election loss to President Biden, the Republican lawyers argued that "Trump’s attempt to prevent the peaceful transfer of power after losing the election proved beyond any reasonable doubt his willingness to place his personal interests above the law and values of our constitutional democracy."

"We cannot go along with other former Republican officials who have condemned Trump with these devastating judgments but are still not willing to vote for Harris," they added. "We believe this election presents a binary choice, and Trump is utterly disqualified."

And they charged that Trump "was guilty of grave wrongdoing to our Constitution, democracy, and rule of law, and who remains unfit, dangerous, and detached from reality."

Trump's numerous indictments in four different legal cases dating back to the spring fueled support for him among Republicans as he fended off over a dozen challengers for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination.

His fundraising skyrocketed this spring after he was found guilty of all 34 felony counts in the first criminal trial of a former or current president in the nation's history.

While Trump easily captured the Republican nomination as he cruised through the GOP's primaries and caucuses, his final rival – former ambassador and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley – continued to win up to 20% of the vote in Republican contests long after she dropped out of the race.

President Biden's campaign – which transformed into the Harris campaign after the president's blockbuster announcement last month that he was ending his re-election bid – has made efforts for months to court Republican voters disaffected with Trump.

The Harris campaign during the four-day convention in Chicago this week showcased Republicans who are supporting the vice president.

Among them were former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan and former Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois.

Welcome to the Scottsdale Promise Program, which covers Arizona resident tuition and fees for qualifying students attending Scottsdale Community College (SCC). Offered as “last dollar” funding, the scholarship helps offset any remaining college expenses after using all other sources of funding.

Eligibility

  • Current Scottsdale residents or graduates from a high school within Scottsdale city limits at the time of application
  • Qualifies for Arizona in-state (in-county) tuition
  • Demonstrated and documented financial need as determined by FAFSA completion and/or free & reduced lunch status, or other federally recognized programs that demonstrate need
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per academic year at SCC leading toward a degree or certificate program
  • Funding to support tuition, books, course fees
  • Dedicated orientation
  • Academic advising
  • Workshops, tutoring, counseling, food pantry, and other support services
  • Access to career services including: resume/cover letter preparation, connection to internships, etc.
  • Access to service learning and other student engagement opportunities
  • Can be renewed for up to four semesters (two years)

As the 2024 Fringe closes – an open letter from Chief Executive, Shona McCarthy

As the curtain falls on the 2024 Festival Fringe, much is being discussed in the spaces, rooms, cafes and streets of Edinburgh, on the success of this year. Today it was announced that 2.6 million tickets were issued during the 2024 Fringe; however there is no doubt that the current environment for artists across the UK is of great concern, and the fragility of the performing arts community is palpable. An outward veneer of success cannot mask the struggle for artists to emerge, let alone thrive in the UK right now. While Fringe 2024 has been brilliant, and it is to be celebrated that artists, companies, venues, producers and promoters took huge financial risks and pieced it together and put on the show, the dominant message as we close this year’s festival is that there is no Fringe without art. There is no art without artists.

The cumulative effect of the relentless rise in the cost of everything, and an unhelpful policy environment facing the arts sector, has resulted in widespread concern that is keenly felt by artists. From the availability of affordable accommodation, and blunt policy changes which have consequences for major events, to continuous public sector cuts – we need to ensure that the hard-won and fragile success isn’t met with complacency by those who can influence change. It is not enough to have old stories of how important Edinburgh’s festivals were in providing healing and connection after the Second World War. They are important now , contributing hugely to health, well-being, joy and job creation. 

The Edinburgh Fringe vision is to give anyone a stage and everyone a seat . That is a commitment to inclusion, to freedom of expression and to being allowed to try and to fail. It is a vision that is increasingly easier to say than it is to do. I have worked in the arts across the UK for 35 years now, and in the last two decades there has been a journey away from elitism, monoculturalism and exclusion with inspiring developments in access to the arts for all, with still a long way to go. If the UK continues on an upward trajectory of cuts to arts education, and Scotland continues to decimate investment in the sector, breaking promises of support, then we are on a direct course to job losses, exclusion and boring art that is only the privilege of those who can afford to be part of it, as performers or as audiences. 

Here at the Fringe and across the UK, the pipeline of creative potential is under threat. Artistic risk and ambition is hamstrung by an operating context that squeezes out emerging artists who have made the Fringe globally renowned, unique and joyful. How can the Edinburgh Fringe remain exemplary, exciting, experimental – the only place in the world to be every August? As the most influential arts marketplace in the world, this year over 1,800 arts industry accredited with the Fringe Society, and came to Edinburgh to seek new work for onward touring and broadcast opportunities. Nearly 900 accredited media reviewed shows, interviewed artists and worked tirelessly to support the 3,746 shows that took place this year.

There is no future for the Fringe without art. There is no art without artists . Artists and the venues who host them are at the heart of this event, and there would be no Fringe without them. They take the risk of bringing work to the festival every year, and while the arts landscape is at a crossroads, we need to ensure that the Fringe, one of the greatest celebrations of arts and culture in the world, is protected for the future. As we celebrate the hundreds of thousands of people who have been moved, delighted, awed, shocked and entertained by the stories artists present across Fringe stages, it feels that now, more than ever, we must not take artists for granted; we would do so at our peril.

  • 1,800 accredited arts industry members – eg promoters, producers, festival and venue bookers – from 64 countries attended the festival to buy work and support artists beyond the Fringe.  
  • Almost 900 media professionals from 27 countries accredited for this year’s festival, with the number of reviewers up 6% on 2023 .
  • 510 artists also attended the annual Meet the Media event, designed to support performers without professional PR support.
  • The Fringe Society ran 37 events as part of the Fringe Central programme, and had 48 external partners . 
  • More than 300 sensory resources were used by autistic children and adults, to help make their experience of the Fringe more enjoyable.  
  • 34 local schools, charities and community groups took part in the Fringe Days Out scheme, which offers free Fringe vouchers and Lothian Bus tickets to people who wouldn’t normally get to experience the Fringe.    
  • An estimated 900 schoolchildren attended the Fringe as part of our schools’ outreach work (accompanied by teachers).
  • The EdFringe app has been downloaded over 124,000 times to date.
  • 60% of Fringe shows were accessible to wheelchair users.

In my heart, I no longer believe that I have a realistic path to electoral victory. So I cannot in good conscience ask my staff and volunteers to keep working their long hours, or ask my donors to keep giving when I cannot honestly tell them that I have a real path to the White House. I want everyone to know that I am not terminating my campaign. I am simply suspending it and not ending it. My name will remain on the ballot in most states. My joining the Trump campaign will be a difficult sacrifice for my wife and children, but worthwhile if there’s even a small chance of saving these kids. Most unifying theme for all Americans is that we all love our children. If we all unite around that issue now, we can finally give them the protection, the health and the future that they deserve.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. threw his support behind former President Donald J. Trump on Friday after suspending his troubled independent campaign for president, saying he was withdrawing his name from the ballot in battleground states and that Mr. Trump had “asked to enlist me” in his second administration.

He announced his plans in a speech in Phoenix that also castigated the mainstream media and accused the Democratic Party of “abandoning democracy” and engaging in “legal warfare” against him and Mr. Trump.

Campaigning in Las Vegas, Mr. Trump expressed delight with Mr. Kennedy’s decision. “That’s big,” he said. “He’s a great guy, respected by everybody.” On Friday evening, Mr. Kennedy spoke at a rally for Mr. Trump in Arizona.

Mr. Kennedy’s decision to back Mr. Trump, in the final months before a closely fought general election, was a remarkable twist for the scion of a Democratic political dynasty. A longtime Democrat, Mr. Kennedy renounced his party, whose leaders in turn accused him of running as a stalking horse for Mr. Trump.

In his remarks, Mr. Kennedy, 70, said he had pledged to leave the race if he “became a spoiler” — a candidate with no path to victory who could nonetheless alter the outcome of the election. “In my heart, I no longer believe I have a realistic path to electoral victory, in the face of this relentless, systematic censorship and media control,” he said.

“Our polling consistently showed that by staying on the ballot in battleground states, I would most likely hand the election to the Democrats, with whom I disagree on most existential issues,” he said.
