101 Best Websites for Writers

writer's digest 101 best websites for writers 2022

We are pleased to announce that our site has again been named as one of the “101 Best Websites for Writers” in the newest issue of Writer’s Digest (May/June 2020) .

This annual list, now in its 22nd year, is a great resource. This year’s collection has 40 new additions (which makes it even nicer to continue to be included). It’s organized into ten categories with our site in the category of “Genre/Niche” under the subheading of “Spiritual.”

I scour many of the sites in this list already, most by using an RSS reader. It is truly remarkable how much great material is available with the click of a few keys.

Included in this year’s list are a few of our friends!

  • Fight Write by Carla Hoch. (She is a client and her book Fight Write came out from Writers Digest recently. If you write fiction that has fight scenes, you need this book!
  • Go Teen Writers hosted by Jill Williamson, Stephanie Morrill, and Shannon Dittemore (Jill is one of the authors for Enclave Publishing).
  • The Kill Zone hosted by 11 top writers, including James Scott Bell who posts once a week.
  • The Write Conversation hosted by Edie Melson, author and co-director of the Blue Ridge Christian Writers conference. Many wonderful writers from our industry contribute every day.
  • Author Media by Thomas Umstattd, Jr. who hosts our Christian Publishing Show podcast every Tuesday.

Other great sites include those from Jane Friedman, Joanna Penn, Writer Unboxed, and many more. Writers Digest does not post the list online for free. You have to subscribe to the magazine or buy the individual issue, which you can do at this link for $6.99 (price is current as of this writing). But it may be worth the investment to create your own catalog of must-read blogs, sites, and resources.

is it pointless to sent now since you said on the podcast you were knee deep in manuscripts?

Leanrogers,

I’ve been knee-deep in proposals and mansucripts for nearly 30 years.

Nothing has changed or is any different today.

As of this afternoon there are over 300 proposals in the queue, a combination of physical and email submissions.

And that does not include any of my client’s submissions. I don’t count those as unsolicited.

Katie– I was out of town and missed this post. Seeing it now, let me say: richly deserved. So many sites do little more than serve the interests of the blogger. With you, nothing could be further from the truth. Congrats!

As well you should be. Congratulations. I have you listed as the best of the best. A well deserved award.

Congrats for your website’s nomination! You always give good advice! 🙂

writer's digest 101 best websites for writers 2022

We are thrilled to announce that CritiqueMatch has been named one of the “ 101 Best Websites for Writers ” in the newest issue of  Writer’s Digest  (May/June 2020) in the “Writing Communities” category!

First and foremost, we would like to thank our members who joined the CritiqueMatch community, trusted our mission and nominated us to Writer’s Digest! It’s our members’ passion for writing and their willingness to help each other that are the building blocks of our global platform.

As the time of this post, more than 3,000 writers and beta readers from 60 countries have joined CritiqueMatch, have exchanged more than 15,000 critiques, and have written more than 350,000 comments, helping other fellow members while growing their skills as writers, editors and beta readers.

We are thrilled by what we have achieved and offered to the writing community in our first 1.5 years of service!

Thus: a huge thank you!

These achievements and the recognition from Writers Digest are boosting our enthusiasm as we continue to improve our platform—thanks also to the great feedback we receive from our users.

We are currently working hard to configure the implementation of the “Pro-Critiquer” feature, which will allow active users with high ratings to apply for and be able to get paid for critiquing services.

This feature is on top of the existing website built, which means the platform will continue to be free for users looking to find critique partners and beta readers and exchanging their work.

Our goal is to empower your voice by continuing to provide a free space where anyone can find critique partners and beta readers, grow their skills, be vetted by the community and be able to get paid while pursuing their passion.

If you’re still not a member, join us today for free!

Writer's Digest's "101 Best Websites For Writers" Issue, 2020

Updated: Jun 1, 2020

writer's digest 101 best websites for writers 2022

Hello dear readers! I just got such a great thing in the mail today (I don't know about you, but getting the mail these days feels like an adventure!)--the May/June 2020 issue of Writer's Digest . It was the last issue that I helmed as Editor-in-Chief, before handing the baton to the top-notch Amy Jones, and moving into my role as Editor-at-Large.

Every year WD does its 101 Best Websites for Writers feature (and how great does WD's own brand new website look!?). It's a ton of work to put together; Managing Editor Cassandra Lipp did an amazing job with it. As I page through, I see the sites of publishing pros who I got to know in my time at WD--like the incomparable Jane Friedman , who knows so much about publishing I am not sure how she ever actually gets any sleep; and Carla Hoch, whose site, FightWrite , teaches you how to write the most realistic fight scenes. She's a dynamo! And some of my own favorite sites to read are here too, like the ever-hilarious Points in Case --if you're a humor writer or fan, you need to check them out.

I am also so excited to see the finished product of the WD interview. Writer Cedric Rose did a fantastic job interviewing the hilarious Jenny Lawson. I will be reading this one today.

I learned so much when I was editor at WD; but more than that, I met so many amazing people--new writers, famous writers, publishing pros, the WD staff themselves....I'll be unpacking my experience there for the rest of my life, I'm sure. If you're a subscriber, you know already what a valuable resource it is. If you're not a subscriber, you should be. Each issue is so full of good info for writers. And their website should be a daily read for you, too. And yes, I am completely biased about this.

As ever, happy reading and happy writing!

Life has a way of interrupting writers.

Praying you through this health crisis Mr. Henry. Holler if you need help; I'm not that far away.

Praying for your good health.

writer's digest 101 best websites for writers 2022

praying alongside your medical journey...

Henry, may your doctors consult the Only Physician who has the ability to completely heal you! And may you feel peace in their care and His. As for your question, I'm at a point in my life when the interruptions are the norm! Lol! I would literally laugh out loud when I plan something - be it writing, cleaning, visiting, etc. - and the coffee maker exploded ... or the washing machine sprayed water everywhere ... or I came down with an unheard of virus. It's just my life. And my experience of God at these times? He certainly has a sense of humor! I have Him on speed dial as my main Therapist to get me through each hour ... er, each minute ... my phone might disintegrate in the next one! Blessings!

I needed that today! Life keeps interrupting me, but I need to see writing as something to balance other parts of life that are not balanced!

Prayers and best wishes on this journey. Thanks for this.

And your book Emily’s Trials is blessing many. Continued health, Henry!

Hope you are on the way to full recovery very soon, Henry. Congratulations on your contract!

Praying for you
