Frequently Asked Questions

  • Curriculum aligned education resource
  • World-class pedagogy
  • Interactive and animated learning content
  • Highly engaging and motivating reward system for children

KooBits believes in children’s power to learn independently, and we have made world class teaching pedagogy as part of the platform for children to learn effectively through animation, practices and challenges. We do not offer online teacher-led tuition classes.

But, you can refer to the study plan that we have put together based on the feedback from the parents.

https://www.koobits.com/resources/studyplan

Even though it is possible to share 1 account among several kids, it is not advisable to do so. One of our strongest features is our AI system’s ability to capture all learning data of your child and summarize them into a detailed report, highlighting strengths and weaknesses. Having more than one user for the same account will result in an inaccurate report. We highly recommend that each child has their own account so that you can track each child’s Math progress and achievements.

Our student’s platform is not designed for mobile phones. You can access only through a Web browser on a desktop computer, laptops, tablets or any other digital device with internet connection for the best user experience.

KooBits can be accessed through a web browser, so no need to download an application.

Our student account is web-based, thus easier to access via different devices if required. Please log in https://member.koobits.com/ using a laptop/desktop or tablet for the best user experience.

We have a parent app for you to view the report and monitor your child’s progress more efficiently using your phone.

In short, yes. We have a definite number of questions on our platform, sorted into levels, topics and skills. It is mathematically possible for a child to complete all the questions. But we have almost 1,000+ learning video tutorials and more than 100,000 questions across Grade 1 to Grade 6 at the moment. It will be pretty impressive for a child to exhaust all our content. Our content team is constantly creating more material, but to be honest, adding more questions is not our top priority now. We are currently developing more awesome features to make our platform even more engaging for our users. More exciting content to engage them beyond the standard textbook curriculum.

KooClass is a series of interactive virtual classes to help kids aged 6-12 years learn about real-world applications of math topics taught in school. With KooClass, kids can relate Math to their everyday life and see examples of applying it to their world. KooClass also serves as a tool  to help kids open their minds to absorb more information. Research shows that when kids “prepare their minds” properly before learning, they can achieve as high as 70% retention of knowledge, compared to the usual 30%.

Sample KooClass

Mission is where you will practice all skills relevant to every topic within your curriculum.

By practicing each skill, your kid will also get to unlock rewards such as KoKo credits – which you can then use to gain access to fun and exciting activities such as Brain Games and StoryMath – completely for your child’s enjoyment (but only after learning)!

The video below will walk you through what the entire process of earning KoKo Credits via Mission skill-practices look like, as well as how you can thereafter use the KoKo Credits you’ve earned in the Brain Games and StoryMath segments!

Daily Challenge is a habit-forming feature. This feature’s main objective is to engage the students and develop a good habit of solving at least 10 math questions a day. The questions in the Daily Challenge will be different for each Grade and are designed to have questions that will have all the difficulty levels starting from Elementary.

You will not be able to change the grade level in between. But it will automatically progress to the next level when the new academic years starts.

The platform allows your child to login between 6am – 10pm, Everyday and shuts downs after that. KooBits is the ONLY education platform in the world that shuts down at 10 pm every night due to feedback from parents: their children are having so much fun, they don’t want to leave the platform! KooBits opens daily at 6 am and without fail, there are thousands of children queuing up in the morning to continue their KooBits learning journey.

  • The feature opens from 8am to 8pm daily.
  • You can only play up to 25 minutes in a single day. The play time starts counting once any game starts and is consumed while playing or after.
  • Each game requires 1 KoKo Credit each day. Your child can earn more KoKo credits from Homework, Daily Bonus and Daily Challenge.

You can find the challenging questions under HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills) which focus on the 12 essential heuristics skills sorted into more than 170 identified skills by our Content Team. We have more than 1,700 challenging questions here. These problems will be tough. But the results are worth the effort.

Yes. Your child’s account has unlimited access to any questions in all Grade 1 to 6 levels under the Mission feature. Besides, the default level is used to personalize your child’s daily experience under the Challenge module.

Our content is designed for Grade 1 to 6 learners. Some of our younger learners start earlier at 6 or even at 5 years old. Every child is unique. Every child learns at a different pace.

As parents ourselves, we worry about screen times too. That’s why we designed KooBits to be effective with only 20 minutes of use a day. After all, we believe that consistency is better than intensity.

KooBits also limits the math games and math stories to a maximum of 25 minutes a day to avoid excessive use. Challenge activities close at 10pm for optimal sleep time.

A Koobits Update that We Love and its Parent App

how to assign homework in koobits

This is an unpaid post.

I wrote a review of KooBits previously, free of charge too. This follow-up post gives an update of the platform and how we are currently using it. You may also wish to read the earlier post that touches on the essential functions of KooBits.

Read: KooBits ProblemSums – Effective Mathematics help for the kids

An Improved Version

KooBits has recently enhanced its platform.

Plans for Children with Different Needs

There were only two plans previously if I recall correctly. We subscribed to the school plan, i.e. the school paid for it. It was basic but good enough for my boy who needs a lot of support in Maths. Hence I did not take note of the other plan.

Now, there are four plans , namely School, Plus (for National Curriculum), Premium (for the Gifted Child), and Genius (for those gunning for Olympiad). As I wanted access to questions for all levels, I decided to upgrade our free School subscription to Plus.

Why I Love Koobits (School and Plus Version)

As a parent, I love Koobits for its flexibility. I can customise the learning session in details.

KooBits can breakdown a topic into various skills a student needs to master very thoroughly. For instance, the topic on Decimals (including 4 Operations on Decimals) has a total of 63 skills to master. An example of a skill is expressing fractions as three-place decimals. So if need be, I can choose to focus only on this skill on a particular afternoon. Once the child master a master, he attains 3 stars in his learning report.

In the case of a high-achieving child, this is probably no big deal, and likely a waste of time to monitor and ensure he has obtained all the stars. In contrast, for children who battle to understand even the most simple concepts, they must ensure that they have attained their basic understanding of the topic before moving on to anything that is a little more complex.

So this is where the Self-Practice feature comes in. For the Primary 4 student, there are 212 skills to achieve mastery in KooBits. The skill and its difficult level will move up gradually. This feature is crucial for children who need to build confidence in tackling Maths.

KooBits

For some skills, KooBits has also uploaded videos on Youtube to help the students better understand the concepts via illustrations. You will find these videos after the Difficulty column.

However, my boy used to treat this Self-Practice feature as non-existent. To him, it was just endless and pointless practice. I met resistance when getting him to work on Self-Practice.

New Enhancement to Self-Practice.

There is an enhancement to an existing feature which has caught my boy’s attention. It has changed the way we use Koobits, for the better.

Self-Practice is now known as Mission, and it comes with rewards, i.e. Koko Credits!

For some kids, collecting Koko Credits are very important to them, because these credits can be exchanged for badges. Some kids similarly love collecting badges, just like collecting Pokemon cards.

KooBits

In the past, we used to go to the Daily Challenge for revisions. Students can earn a badge and obtain lots of CPs after completing the Daily Challenge for the day. We can customise Daily Challenge so as to focus on only subjects that we need to revise. However, it does not allow us to pick particular skills to hone.

This limitation did not work well for us since my boy needs more support in learning. Hence I had to switch to Assignments whereby I could assign homework that allowed him to concentrate on the certain skills where he needed more help. Completing one homework earns him 5 Koko Credits.

Despite that, I was still dissatisfied after discovering that not all skills in Self-Practice are reflected in Assignments. As a result, we missed out revising Ordering Fractions, and my boy scored zero there for his mid-year examinations. KooBits, you really need to work on this. It is my only major complaint. Of course, mummy is at fault too for missing out.

Recently, we discovered completing Missions help to earn Koko Credits so much faster. Upon completion of 10 questions, the child gets to select a prize containing up to 10 Koko Credits. I don’t agree with giving out a prize by answering ten questions correctly. A discouraged child may give random answers just so to get his Koko credits.

I don’t have access to Premium Plan. Here is some of the contents to share.

KooBits

The Koobits Parent App

The Koobits Parent App is complimentary to subscribers.

Tracking the Child’s Progress

The KooBits Parent App helps parents to check from their smartphone whether their children are making headways, understand their strengths and weaknesses, and benchmark their progress against their peers.

The information in the App mirrors the report section of KooBits.

Notifications

The KooBits Parent App gives a summary of my son’s weekly activities. I can also see an overview of his monthly or daily activities.

how to assign homework in koobits

Daily highlights show the number of questions your child did on a particular day, as well as his performance. KooBits recommends doing up to 20 problems a day. Any more than 20 may turn your child into an angry child. Mine sure do though recently he has gone gaga over finishing up the fundamental questions just so to get his Koko Credits.

how to assign homework in koobits

That’s all on my update of KooBits.

The platform continues to be my life saviour when it comes to helping my child who is struggling with Maths. I no longer have to go to Popular to search for Maths assessments that help to build my kid’s foundation in Maths, nor spend tons of money to hire a Math tutor, just to drill him on basic Maths.

[review] koobits science review and walkthrough (part 1).

Here's the first part of a detailed Koobits Science review and walkthrough, covering KooChallenge and KooTraining.

how to assign homework in koobits

Pricing for  Koobits Science is:

  • Premium - $16.50/month - $198 billed Yearly
  • Standard: $14/month - $168 billed Yearly

They also provide bundle discount if you are keen to get Koobits Math.

I have signed J up for Koobits Math premium account for 2 years, and Koobits Science premium account for almost 1 year. Honestly, I have never sit down and try out. Actually I felt quite confused by it because there are many sections of questions and games.

I asked J if she knows where she's navigating and if she understands what she's doing. She said yes and I let it be because I'm too lazy to figure things out.

Today, with some time on hand, I finally sat down to have a good look at Koobits Science -- also because I have friends asking me for feedback but I don't know what to tell them.

The first thing I did was to figure out what XP, CP, KoKo Credits are all about. See, this Koobits thingy is a gamified learning platform. And the last time I really sat down to play (and enjoy) games was before getting married and playing Maple Story. So this game thing is already quite foreign to me.

Took me a while, but here's what I found.

how to assign homework in koobits

Here's some information I extracted under Help section in Koobits.

About XP  (For Leveling Up)

XP (experience point) is a cumulative point system across the lifetime of a student/child account. Users can level up and unlock badges by earning more XP.

Note: There is no option to reset XP level.

How to earn more XP?

Users can earn more XP by getting correct answers in Daily Challenge questions:

Daily Challenge difficulty levels 1 star to 3 stars: 1 XP per correct answer

Daily Challenge difficulty level 4 stars: 2 XP per correct answer

About CPs (Challenge Points)  (For Leaderboards)

KooBits platform is essentially driven by 2 main reward systems - Challenge Points (CPs) & KoKo Credits.

Challenge Points (CPs) are earned by completing a variety of unique and exciting challenges that you can find all across the KooBits platform.

Earn Challenge Points by completing Daily Challenge , Peer Challenge or Sunday Mini Challenge

Challenge Points accumulated will be used in the computation of your ranking in the various Leaderboards (Hero of the Day, Top Brain etc)

About KoKo Credits -- For Unlocking

KoKo Credits is the virtual credit system in KooBits. It can be used to exchange for rewards, such as:

Unlocking latest StoryMath chapters

Unlocking past stickers in album

Unlocking any brain games

Unlocking KooClass lessons

About Scrolls (No use yet)

The scrolls are like credits. They represent mastery and they can be used when we launch more cool features in the future. Do stay tuned!

With that in mind, let's explore the features of Koobits Science.

KooChallenge

KooChallenge comprises of 3 sections -- Daily Challenge, Peer Challenge, Super Hero Challenge:

Daily Challenge

It has 5 questions of different level of difficulty. Each question will earn you 2 XP and between 1-3 CPs depending on difficulty. After completing 5 questions, you can open a Koko Gift Box containing certain amount of Koko Credits.

how to assign homework in koobits

Super Hero Challenge

Super Hero Challenges are not really science-related. There are 2 challenges under this section, 1 is Super Vision Challenge, the other is Super Speed Challenge.

Super Vision Challenge is more commonly known as "Spot The Difference". You are given 2 pictures, and will have to spot 5 differences within the given time limit. It can only be played once a day.

Super Speed Challenge is solving math equations as quick as possible. There's a practise mode to get some warm up before the actual challenge. It is really, erm, not easy.

how to assign homework in koobits

KooTraining

how to assign homework in koobits

Under KooTraining, there are 3 sections -- Mission, KooQuiz, and Assignment

Topics are broken down into sub-topics, and each sub-topics have questions to practise with. Other than your own level, you can also navigate to any levels P3 to P6 to do the questions.

how to assign homework in koobits

Under KooQuiz, you can choose to work on Top School papers, or Open-Ended Questions, any level between P3 - P6.

how to assign homework in koobits

Upon completion, 20 KoKo Credits will be awarded.

Assignment For this section, you can find 2 options -- Create Personalised Assignment, and My Assignment. Create Personalised Assignment allows parents or children themselves to create assignments (homework), and My Assignment is the list of assignments they have.

how to assign homework in koobits

Stay tuned for the 2nd part. Here's part 2 of the walkthrough . Have to separate them because the post is getting a little too long. Next part, I'll be covering KooClass, KooFun, Friends, Report and Leaderboard.

How to make KooBits a part of your Busy Child’s Daily Routine?

By Alex Ko / In Editorial , Featured , Motivating Your Child / Last updated on 6th December, 2023

In today’s fast-paced world, our children lead increasingly busy lives.

Balancing school, extracurricular activities, and family commitments can be overwhelming, leaving minimal time for additional learning activities.

Even though practicing KooBits for just 20 minutes a day consistently can lead to significant improvements in school grades, it can be tough to carve out this time daily.

We interviewed the parents of KooBits’ top users and compiled the practical ways they use to fit KooBits into their child’s daily routines, despite the demanding schedules.

Communicate expectations with your child

how to assign homework in koobits

Tell your child what is expected of them when they come back home.

Work with them to form a routine wherein it’s very clear what they are supposed to do.

You can even consider sticking a checklist on the wall with the activities they are to complete.

Mdm Oei Ting, mom of a primary 4 boy, Evan, follows this principle:

“What we tell him is, after school, first thing is to finish his homework first. If there’s any spelling he has to learn, then after that he has to do koobits. It’s part of his daily routine, so he does his i don’t know daily challenge or peer challenge.”

Set bite-sized, achievable goals for your child

how to assign homework in koobits

Bite-sized goals seem more achievable for kids, and hence are perfect to motivate them to get started.

As we all know, the first step is usually the hardest.

Start off with just 10-20 mins a day, or more precisely just 10 questions a day.

Many kids find it manageable to do that, vs a longer period of studying.

“He normally takes about half an hour to do those (daily challenges).. A little bit everyday is better rather than a long period of just sitting through 1 or 2 hours of studies.”, said Karen law, mom of a Primary 4 child, Ethan.

Encourage your child to do more when they feel it, and less when they don’t feel like it

how to assign homework in koobits

Motivation fluctuates. Just like we have days where we don’t feel like exercising, our kids too have good and bad days.

As parents, it’s easier to work with our child than against them.

We can encourage them to do more questions when our kids are motivated, and less on more challenging days.

Alex Tan, dad of Casey, a Primary 3 student says –

“ My request of him is other than doing daily challenges, he will also need to do both math and science at least one mission, minimum at least 10 questions. Everyday, including Saturday and sunday. Occasionally perhaps he has motivation or he feels like doing it, he will do more. Sometimes he might do more.”

Make it rewarding for your child to practice

how to assign homework in koobits

Making learning a positive experience for our kids can set them up for a lifelong love of learning.

While we communicate our expectations with them to practice daily and hold those boundaries, we can offer them rewards to celebrate them for following through on those commitments.

Offer them TV time, reading time or family game time if they complete all the activities in their daily routine.

Even a word of encouragement goes a long way in making your child feel appreciated.

Jasmine Phuang, mom of a Primary 5 boy says –

“ I did track(100 questions) using the koobits app. I said, after you do this, you can have some time to watch tv and play games. So if you do this everyday, just like daily exercise to do you have to build up the muscle.”

KooBits Challenge is a series of online competitions that are fun and rewarding. The KooBits competitions are interactive and social. It’s fun to play with friends. Let’s take a look at a few popular competitions.

“ Champion Class ” is a competition where students get a chance to work together as a class. This competition requires teamwork among classmates to attain challenge points together.

Another competition is “ Wizard School ”, which happens in August and September. Schools will compete against each other, and the winning school is the one with the highest challenge points.

One of the most popular competitions at KooBits is called “ Boys vs Girls ”. This is an annual fun-filled competition, happening every June. All the boys on KooBits will form one team, vs the girls team. This competition celebrates friendship, and most importantly sends a message that Maths is important to everyone, whether you’re a boy or a girl, you have equal chance and responsibility to excel in Maths.
