It feels like I'm having a natter with a good friend when I finally get on a call with TV presenter Lisa Snowdon . She's apologising profusely to me after having to rearrange our interview. She was struck down with bronchitis, and had to cancel work and social engagements for a couple of weeks.

Back on track, it wasn't long before I realised why the model and media personality, 52, always looks glam and glowing. ‘I wake up at 5 am and we head off to the gym ,' she tells me. By we, she means herself and her fiancé George Smart, her partner of around 8 years and a regular on her Instagram feed.

'We've got a little bit of a routine going - it's quite nice to have that, especially in the spring and the summer - although it's a bit harder in the winter,' she admits.

She admits she's now 'come to terms' with not being a mother, but admits it was tough when her friends announced pregnancies, even though she was deeply happy for them.

'I used to get this little little pinch inside - and felt slightly sad for myself. There was obviously pure happiness for friends, but it was tinged with a little bit of envy sometimes - especially around that time that I miscarried, and then when I was told I was perimenopausal. But I'm definitely in a place of peace now and I've come to terms with it.'

Lisa adds that her entrepreneur fiancé was supportive of her situation, and when she explained to him that starting a family might be tricky, he responded, 'Honestly, if it’s just you and me forever I don’t care - this is what I want.'

Previously having opened up to WH about the menopause Lisa adds that 10 years ago 'perimenopause' didn't even exist in her vocabulary. 'I didn't know what was happening to me for about six years, but it did affect me mentally - I had depression, anxiety and panic attacks, then sleepless nights, hot flashes, night sweats, weight gain.

'I navigated it until 2020 pretty much on my own, but that's when I started listening to my body asking myself, "what can I do to make some changes?".'

Menopause and children

Despite wanting to become a mum Lisa adds, with hindsight, that while she suffered with her perimenopause symptoms, it wouldn't have been the 'ideal' time for raising a child: 'I just don't think I would have been very good at it, because I wasn't very nice; I was pretty nasty to George. Some days I wanted to give up work too - I think the struggles were a bit too intense for me.'

However, although she's come to terms with not having children, she wishes people would be kinder. 'I think it's important to acknowledge that there are so many different scenarios - people just assume they can ask you about your family. They don't realise that it's not easy for everybody to get pregnant - there are so many different issues, struggles or reasons.

'Some people should be a bit kinder when they ask questions because they don't know what's going on behind closed doors.'

Despite not having any children herself, she says she's lucky to be surrounded by so many children in her family: 'I've got all these crazy kids in my life, from my sisters - and I'm so close to them. I've got five of them all under 12, who are just gorgeous and fun - and I couldn't love them anymore.'

She loves a strength workout

To help get through her menopause symptoms, Lisa also switched to strength training : 'Lifting weights has been a game changer, metabolically for me - it helped me drop some dress sizes, which did go up in perimenopause. As women, we need to build muscle but it's hard to do. I think that the misconception is that we're going to walk out of the gym with like these huge guns, and we won't be able to wear our nice blazers and tailoring and stuff but in fact, it's quite hard to build muscle as a woman.'

'They don't realise that it's not easy for everybody to get pregnant'

She's jumped on the cold water trend too , finishing her shower with a 'nice cold 90-second icy finish,' which she explains is 'more of a mental thing as well as a physical for me - you just feel more ready for challenges and things that might crop up throughout the day.'

Lisa Snowdon is one of the confirmed names heading into the I'm A Celebrity camp.

The model and presenter joins 11 other celebrities who are heading taking to the jungle for bug-eating, cold showers and all manner of skin-crawling tasks.

The 44-year-old began a modelling career after being spotted by an agent at the age of 19, when she was pole-dancing at a rave in a club in London.

In the height of her career she was earning £100,000 per shoot, the Mirror reports .

Lisa, from Hertfordshire, was born Lisa Snawdon. She has appeared in a number of TV commercials, for products such as Lynx, Mercedes-Benz and Dove soap, and has featured on the covers of famous fashion magazines like Vogue, Marie Claire and Elle.

She was also the face of Gucci at one point.

Lisa was featured in FHM's 100 Sexiest Women list every year between 1996 and 2007 except for 1998.

I'm A Celebrity won't be Lisa's first time as a reality TV contestant. She took part in the sixth series of Strictly Come Dancing and was paired with professional Brendan Cole.

Lisa Snowdon has spoken frankly about the conflicting feelings she’s experienced after having an abortion in her late twenties.

The TV presenter, 51, has been open about her fertility journey over the years as well as sharing other insights into her health and ageing.

In a new interview with the Daily Mail , the former Britain’s Next Top Model host gave some insight into the damaging thoughts she had over her difficulties with getting pregnant after once having an abortion.

“I’d think, ‘Was that my chance and it's gone? Is this my punishment? Maybe I don't deserve to be a mother because I did that,’” she told the publication.

Snowdon then attributed these thoughts as being part of some women’s tendency to “blame ourselves” and find ways to feel worse about a situation.

“You do kind of put yourself through a bit of torture,” she continued. “I think we women have the capability to do that often to ourselves. We just try and add salt to the wound if we’re feeling s***ty. We’re like, ‘What else can I do in order to make myself feel even worse?’ To blame ourselves and feel shame.”

Snowdon also reiterated her confidence in her choice to end the pregnancy, because her partner at the time was not one she wanted to continue a lifelong relationship with.

“I stand by the fact that it [the termination] was the right decision because I’ve always thought that if I’m going to have a family, I want a supportive partner – who’s loving, who’s there – and I was with a man who wasn’t the right man to have in my life. He’d let me down, hugely, wasn’t even there for the first doctor’s appointment [about the pregnancy].

“If I’d had the baby, I’d have been connected to that man for the rest of my life. But every now and then I’d think, ‘Gosh he or she would be this or that age now’. You never forget.”

Elsewhere in the profile, published on Sunday (13 August), Snowdon recalled her pregnancy loss when she was 41, moments before going live on LBC radio.

“To say I was devastated is an understatement; I was heartbroken, inconsolable,” she said.

However, she and her partner George Smart have now accepted not having children, and are instead cherishing their own company and the other young people in their close circles.

She added: “We’ve got loads of kids in our lives (five nieces and nephews between them), so we decided to enjoy them and most of all enjoy each other and have adventures, see the world and feel blessed we found each other again.”

So to be able to go into that show and keep gaining more self-belief is life changing for me."

And she says she still can't quite believe that she was crowned the winner. "When they said my name, everything went into slow-motion and I couldn't quite believe it," she says.

"It was massively overwhelming because I felt like I was at the bottom of a really steep hill when I first started. I was super-proud that I'd made it all the way to the final, and then to be crowned champion was absolutely incredible. I don't think I'll ever forget it as long as I live.

"When I was competing, I just thought: 'Come on, you got this you know, you love food. Just put everything into it.' And that's what I did. I'm so happy I pushed myself - I said it on the show: I'm 50 and I feel like I'm just getting started. That was my motto that I took with me throughout it all."

She now plans to cook one of her MasterChef dishes for her fiancé of seven years, George Smart . "For a romantic night in with George, I would do Japanese-style fish and chips that I cooked on MasterChef, because the wasabi mushy peas were a triumph and that's quite a fun little night because you can make the whole meal Japanese-themed. But equally just good, wholesome food that's home-cooked. I think anything that's had a lot of love put into it tastes good."

In the magazine, Lisa also says she would love to carry on working with food on television. "I would love to do more cooking on television. I feel like my MasterChef win is going to open up so many doors in an area that I'm really passionate about.

"I'd like to go on a food tasting journey around the world; or maybe I could host a show where I'm watching people cook. I would definitely like to work more in that area. I don’t want to win that show and not do anything with it."

This Morning presenter and radio host Lisa Snowdon has been engaged to boyfriend George Smart since 2017.

Lisa, who also enjoyed romances with George Clooney and David Walliams, announced their plans to wed.

The 48 year old – who starred in the 2016 series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! – described her future husband as her "best friend".

Unfortunately for the fashion host she was forced to cancel their Japan ceremony, which was set for later this summer, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Lisa said she was left "heartbroken" and are having to put the ceremony on hold for the future.

She explained to new magazine in April: "It is heartbreaking having to cancel our wedding and we’d hoped we’d get married in Japan, but now George and I are going with the flow.

"We don’t even really discuss it and we are going to leave it until next year, there’s no point in planning anything and everything has been put on hold."

“George proposed to me on the Saturday before Christmas (2016),” Lisa said in a 2017 Fabulous interview.

Lisa told the Mirror Online that she had been considering eloping for her wedding to George.

“I never really imagined my wedding before so I don’t have any ideas – I don’t know when or where,” she said.

The TV presenter told OK! Online that the wedding was set for 2018, but they were pushed back to 2020.

In an exclusive interview at the 2018 TRIC Awards, Lisa said: “The wedding will happen later in the year – bridesmaids will probably be my sisters.

“It will be very low-key, we’re not going to go crazy,” she continued.

But for now the ceremony will be on hold until the couple are allowed to host their friends and family in line with any government guidelines.

Snowdon was in a five-year on/off relationship with actor George Clooney. Their relationship was well reported in the tabloids on both sides of the Atlantic. After 14 months of dating Snowdon revealed in 2017 her engagement to her boyfriend, George Smart.
