On 26 January 1950, almost 3 years post-independence, we became a sovereign, secular, socialist, democratic republic.

History of Republic Day

While we got independence from British rule on August 15, 1947, our country was still lacking a concrete constitution. Moreover, India also did not have any experts and political powers which would help in the functioning of the state affairs smoothly. Up until then, the 1935 Government of India Act was basically modified in order to govern, however, that act was more bent towards the colonial rule. Therefore, there was a dire need to form an exclusive constitution that would reflect all that India stands for.

Thus, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar led a constitutional drafting committee on August 28, 1947. After drafting, it was presented to the Constituent Assembly by the same committee on November 4, 1947. This whole procedure was very elaborate and took up to 166 days to complete. Moreover, the committee organized sessions were kept open to the public.

No matter the challenges and hardships, our constitutional committee left no stone unturned to include rights for all. 26 th January is celebrated as Republic Day in our country. On this day in 1950, the constitution of our country was formally adopted and India became a fully sovereign state. Dr. Ambedkar was the Father of our Constitution. India is a secular, sovereign, democratic, republic. Her secularism is enshrined in the preamble to the constitution and the fundamental rights and other clauses in the constitution.

The India Constituent Assembly adopted the constitution on 26th January, 1950. Since then, the republic day is celebrated all over the country with great pomp and show. The main attraction is the Republic Day parade at Delhi , where the President of India takes the salute.

The Republic Day parade I witnessed on the Rajpath was a memorable one. First of all there was the booming of guns. The National Flag was unfurled by the President, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. Simultaneously MI 17 helicopter showered flower petals on the people. The king of Nepal, who was accompanied by his wife was the Chief Guest.

The Prime Minister paid homage to the martyr soldiers at Amar Jawan Jyoti.

The parade began with the Major General of Delhi Area in the lead. Winners of the highest gallantry award including the Ashok Chakra, Param Vir Chakra, and victoria cross followed the parade commander in jeeps.

The most awe-inspiring was Agni, the intermediate Range Ballistic missile with the range of 2450 km, carrying 1000 kg load of explosive including a nuclear warhead Then there were 28 tableaux (jhansi) from states and public undertaking. They represented India’s variety, cultural diversity, and secularism. Then there were a national bravery award winner children and their march. Then there was “Flypast” termed the “Big Boy” comprising several planes.

Finally, there was the breathtaking “Vertical Charlie” by a Su-30 aircraft, I can never forget what I saw long long back.

Everything I saw in the Republic Day Parade was so fascinating that I have decided that I will attend the Republic Day celebration every year! And I am certain that I will next time too I will get to watch many clips of scientific advancement in the pioneering fields.

Honoring what our ancestors did to fight for the freedom and constitution of the nation, I pray for a nation that they dreamed of – A nation without religion, racial and regional tensions, where man’s miseries vanish and mankind can live with greater dignity, peace, and comfort in an atmosphere of national respect and greater equality. That may be just a form of hope, but I will work towards it.

In the India of my dreams, where all citizens are happy to get up for the national anthem and are delighted to be part of nation-building.

Years ago on this date, in the year 1950, the Constitution of our country, which today governs our nation, came into being.

This year, Tania Shergill, an officer with Army’s Corps of Signal will be the first woman parade adjutant for the Republic Day.
It is a historic day for India as she becomes the first woman whose dream of being on the ground has finally become the reality; and the icing on the cake is that women CRPF bikers are also going to make debut in this year’s parade.
Republic Day thus celebrates the birth of the constitution, which finally came into effect when years ago on this date Dr. Rajendra Prasad took the first oath of India being a Republic country.

Republic Day Essay: January 26 , is the day on which our country celebrates the Republic Day. It was on this date that independent India adopted the constitution in the year 1950. The Draft Constitution was framed and was ready by February 1948 but it was formally adopted on January 26, 1950, declaring India in the preamble of the constitution as a Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic. January 26 has sentimental importance for our country. It was on January 26, 1930, that the Indian National Congress had declared the demand for complete independence in the session held in Lahore. It was, therefore, that India as a Republic came into existence on January 26, 1950. Ever since then January 26, every year is celebrated as the Republic Day. It is a great celebration and a grand show.

On this Day, a special function is arranged on the road named as the Raj path. This is the ‘path’ which runs between the India Gate and Rashtrapati Bhawan. Some foreign dignitary — the President of any friendly country is invited to be the Chief Guest, who along with the President of India receives the salute of the army contingents, the police personnel, the NCC cadets, the school children. This is the day on which India presents the selected groups of its army-personnel all the three wings the Artillery, the Navy and the Air Force who march in an elegant manner presenting a salute to the President of India and the Chief Guest who have a special pedestal put up as the central stage of the show. All the V.I.P. and V.V.I.P. guests are seated on both sides of this pedestal. There are contingents of the army cavalry; the Camel brigade which also presents a salute in a disciplined formation. Then there are the tabulaes presented by the different government departments high lighting their achievements and the different states present special features of their local culture and ways of life. In this way, India as a unity even in diversity is amply demonstrated and presented. The children selected from different educational institutions put up cultural shows on the Rajpath and thus goes on the marvelous and worth-seeing spectacle for nearly three hours.

The most elegant part of the show is the tabulaes presented by the three wings — of the army, who put up the latest achievements and acquisitions of the army in the most modern and up to date weaponry which gives to the world at large a show of our strength as a nation prepared for any contingency and emergency if ever our national integrity is challenged. This is the only day on which it is done and the public of the country, the viewers on the T.V. screen are given a feel how strong our national defense is.

While on one hand we are shown our strength on the other hand on this day, during the show the highest military awards for outstanding gallantry are also presented. It is a touching sight when the widow of a soldier who gave up his life fighting for the country, comes up to receive the gallantry award on behalf of her late husband. Even children who get selected over the length and breadth of the country for exemplary courage are also rewarded and honored.

It adds glory and glamour to this grand spectacle when the airforce of the country presents marvelous and miraculous feats of aircraft maneuverings and formations. Even they shower rose petals over the Chief Guests and the spectators which receive a spontaneous cheering.

The whole show comes to a close with the national Anthem — our Jana Gana Mana. Year after year January 26 is eagerly and keenly awaited for this celebration in the capital of the country — New Delhi and the Rajpath turns really into the Rajpath, particularly on this day.

Republic Day is a national holiday, and it is celebrated like a national festival. The first Republic Day was dedicated in 1950. It was on this day that the Constitution of India was implemented for the first time.

On Republic Day, there is a Parade that takes place near India Gate in the country’s Capital. In the Parade, all the states and union territories of India participate. Every year, there are guest speakers invited from different countries. It is all a part of the celebrations held on Republic Day.

Even though the INC declared Independence Day in 1930, India for Independence from the British after 17 years, on the 15th of August,1947, therefore, the 15th of August was celebrated as Independence Day and the 26th of January as Republic Day. Republic Day is marked with a lot of happiness and patriotism for the country.

After two years, eleven months, and eighteen days the Constitution was finally made. On the 26th of January, 1950, the Constitution was eventually adopted and implemented in the country. The same day is referred to as Republic Day.

The whole country celebrates the 26th of January as Republic Day. It is a day that has been declared as a national holiday. People all across the country celebrate this day, they hoist the flag and organize events. The President of the country raises the national flag on the Rajpath in New Delhi. People from all over the country visit the Rajpath. On this day to witness the grand celebration of Republic Day. India will celebrates it’s 75th Republic Day in 2024. The first President of the country, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, started the hoisting the flag ceremony in his years in the office.

Biden Approved Secret Nuclear Strategy Refocusing on Chinese Threat

In a classified document approved in March, the president ordered U.S. forces to prepare for possible coordinated nuclear confrontations with Russia, China and North Korea.

President Biden approved in March a highly classified nuclear strategic plan for the United States that, for the first time, reorients America’s deterrent strategy to focus on China’s rapid expansion in its nuclear arsenal.

The shift comes as the Pentagon believes China’s stockpiles will rival the size and diversity of the United States’ and Russia’s over the next decade.

The White House never announced that Mr. Biden had approved the revised strategy, called the “Nuclear Employment Guidance,” which also newly seeks to prepare the United States for possible coordinated nuclear challenges from China, Russia and North Korea. The document, updated every four years or so, is so highly classified that there are no electronic copies, only a small number of hard copies distributed to a few national security officials and Pentagon commanders.

But in recent speeches, two senior administration officials were allowed to allude to the change — in carefully constrained, single sentences — ahead of a more detailed, unclassified notification to Congress expected before Mr. Biden leaves office.

“The president recently issued updated nuclear-weapons employment guidance to account for multiple nuclear-armed adversaries,” Vipin Narang, an M.I.T. nuclear strategist who served in the Pentagon, said earlier this month before returning to academia. “And in particular,” he added, the weapons guidance accounted for “the significant increase in the size and diversity” of China’s nuclear arsenal.

In June, the National Security Council’s senior director for arms control and nonproliferation, Pranay Vaddi, also referred to the document , the first to examine in detail whether the United States is prepared to respond to nuclear crises that break out simultaneously or sequentially, with a combination of nuclear and nonnuclear weapons.
