You will be asked to complete the form and provide the physical (mailing) address of the academic institution to receive your scholarship award. Scholarship award checks are mailed directly to your academic institution, checks are never mailed directly to the scholarship recipient.
  • Please note, applicants are eligible to receive only one scholarship from DAR each award cycle.
  • Scholarship awards are issued and mailed in August/September for use for the Fall Semester, no exceptions. We are unable to accommodate special requests to delay the awarding of scholarships for the Spring Semester or other time-periods. In addition, recipients must be currently enrolled as a student for the scholarship award to be issued.
  • Failure to provide your official transcripts and completed scholarship acceptance form by the specified date will result in the scholarship not being awarded.

Read through these carefully, as there is a lot of information and many specifics of how to pass along this information to schools. All forms are writable and savable, allowing you to fill in your chapter contact information before printing hard copies for schools, or before emailing the information. All forms (except the Scholarship Essay Instructions) can be sent electronically to the schools if preferred, making it even easier to get the information to many schools. The Scholarship Essay Instructions includes the essay title and focus question that is not to be opened until the essay is administered to the student under the supervision of a school faculty member or a DAR member, therefore this one form must be hand delivered to participating schools. Remember that the essay focus question changes each year, so it is vital that you double check to make sure you are distributing this year’s form.

If your chapter has more than one school participating, you will need to line up a minimum of two non-DAR judges to select one senior from the scholarship essays to submit to your District Vice-Chairman.

District Vice-Chairmen are:

  • The 2024 Share the American Spirit Contest is a new contest, in which chapters will be broken down into four size categories. At the 134th Continental Congress in 2025, the first time this contest will occur, a single chapter’s name will be pulled from the four and that chapter’s members will serve as guest editors of a future American Spirit magazine! Our goal with this new contest is to ensure that large chapters are not compared to small chapters. Instead, all chapters will be able to compete with generally equally sized chapters to win.

Keep in mind these upcoming deadlines as you make your plans for your DAR work. DAR committees have a wide variety of different initiatives for members to become involved with – something for every member for every interest!
