  1. Les Miserables (the book) is a masterpiece : r/books

ADMIN MOD. Les Miserables (the book) is a masterpiece. Can't believe I am saying this but this book easily competes with "War and Peace" and some might even say it is better. The plot, history, romance, philosophy and tragedy it had it all. Victor Hugo really did justice with all the time I spent reading it.

  2. r/books on Reddit: Les Miserables, what is it about, is there a point

Yes, it's about what the terms "good" and "evil" even mean, it's about principle and necessity, and about the lives of the lowest classes in post-revolutionary France. But it is about these things very slowwwwly. The lives of the lower classes wasn't considered a fit subject for literature before this book.

This of course means a goodman (archaic), an ordinary man, or in the context of the page, surely, a little man. So I beleive the translation should say "you see a little man, and I see a great man". All the translations I have found translate it as "you see a good man and I see a great man" which doesn't really make sense here.

  11. Book Review: Les Misérables

Les Misérables by Victor Hugo. My rating: 5 of 5 stars. I wrote this review on Goodreads, only seconds, after I finished the novel. I am reading Les Miserables (Charles Wilbour transl.) for the first time and came across a word I can't find the definition of anywhere.
