- Do’s for an Effective Communication Express your expectations to others. Use less of absolute words such as "never", "always", "forever", etc. Be a good, attentive and active listener. Filter the information correctly before passing on to someone else. Try to establish one communication channel and eliminate the intermediaries. Use specific and accurate words which audiences can easily understand. Try and view the situations through the eyes of the speaker. The "you" attitude must be used on all occasions. Maintain eye contact with the speaker and make him comfortable.
- Write the instructions if the information is very detailed. Oral communication must be clear and not heavily accented. Avoid miscommunication of words and semantic noise. Ask for clarifications, repetition where necessary. Make the organisational structure more flexible, dynamic and transparent. Foster congenial relationship which strengths coordination between superior and subordinate. Focus on purposeful and well focused communication. The message of communication should be clear and practical. Get Proper Feedback.
- Don’ts for an Effective Communication Be a Selective Listener, this is when a person hears another but selects not to hear what is being said by choice or desire to hear some other message. Be a "Fixer", a fixer is a person that tries to find other person's fault. Be a daydreamer. Use long chain of command for communication. Use too many technical jargons. Jump to conclusions immediately. Interrupt the speakers and distract him by asking too many irrelevant questions.

We offer individualized consultations designed to guide you through every stage of the speech development process, from initial concept to final delivery. Our experienced consultants provide feedback on content, organization, delivery and visual aids, helping you to craft compelling and confident presentations.

The Communication Skills Lab offers free, comprehensive support to help students excel in public speaking. We can work with both individuals and small groups. Our experienced consultants provide personalized guidance on all aspects of speech development, including:

The Communication Skills Lab offers guidance and support to enhance public speaking skills. We do not complete work for students or guarantee improved grades.

The Communication Skills Lab offers in-person, peer-to-peer consultations in Xavier Hall, Room 208.

Students should schedule appointments through EAB Navigate—Student. We do not currently offer drop-in hours.

This is a medium term plan (MTP) / scheme of work (SoW) of 12 lessons designed to equip students with the skills needed to complete the Functional Skills English SLC component of the Pearson assessment in the final lesson. The scheme includes 9 PPT lessons (and one PDF worksheet for lesson 6) which build the skills needed for the assessment and lead to the students creating their presentations and researching their discussion topics in lessons 10 and 11. It could also be used for level 2 students because the skills required and the tasks they have to complete in the assessment are similar (see the SoW/MTP PDF for further info).

I'm speechless at the amount of work involved in creating this magnificent set of resources! Thank you Sarah :) Everything you need to ensure learners are well prepared for formal assessment. Aimed at those using Pearson-Edexcel but ideal underpinning and practice no matter which awarding organisation is used. Fully covers all the Level 1 and 2 assessment criteria for FS speaking, listening and communication.  The 12 week plan details starter, main learning activities (including copious links to videos and other onscreen resources) and plenary for each lesson and is meticulously colour-coded to show where/when written progress notes could be recorded and where there are (many) opportunities to differentiate.

Remember: if you are a resource contributor, you can ask for an editable Word version of the SoW/MTP.

Ghiras Al-Nahda organization is committed to enhancing the capacity of its team to deliver impactful presentations. As part of our continuous professional development efforts, we seek to engage a qualified trainer to conduct a comprehensive presentation and communication skills training for our team.

2. Objective

The primary objective of this training is to equip our team with the necessary skills to effectively communicate ideas, project updates, and reports through clear, engaging, and persuasive presentations.

3. Scope of Work

The selected trainer will be responsible for the following:

  • Designing and delivering a customized presentation and communication skills training program tailored to the needs of our team.
  • Conducting an initial assessment to identify the current skill level and specific areas for improvement.
  • Providing practical exercises, role-plays, and feedback sessions to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Covering key aspects of presentation skills, including but not limited to:
  • Structuring and organizing content
  • Designing visual aids
  • Engaging with the audience
  • Handling Q&A sessions
  • Overcoming stage fright and nervousness
  • Effective use of body language and voice modulation
  • Delivering both in-person and virtual training sessions (if applicable).
  • Providing post-training support and resources for continued learning.

4. Deliverables

  • A detailed training plan and agenda.
  • Training materials, including slides, handouts, and resources.
  • A final report summarizing the training outcomes, participant feedback, and recommendations for further development.

5. Duration

The training for presentation and communication skills is projected to take place over a duration of three days in August.

6. Qualifications of the Trainer

The ideal trainer should possess:

  • Proven experience in delivering presentation and communication skills training, preferably within the relief and development sector.
  • Strong facilitation skills and the ability to engage participants from diverse backgrounds.
  • A relevant educational background in communication, public speaking, or related fields.
  • Excellent command of English
