essay on my country Nepal

Essay on My Country Nepal For Students

If there is a country’s flag that stands out among all other countries it is the flag of Nepal . Our flag is very unique and cannot be compared to other countries’ flags due to its shape. It also has a hidden meaning behind it which represents the country’s peace-loving and friendly nature, bravery, and immortal history.

My country Nepal is situated between two countries, India and China. Although it is sandwiched between international powers, conflicts have not happened between any, and peace remains. Nepal is a country of various castes and cultures. In other words, it is like a beautiful garden of flowers with people of different ethnicities and backgrounds.

My country Nepal is not only unique for its flag but also its geographical terrain, the variety of castes and cultures you can find, and the rich history of it. It is the land of various great places and important figures that people know far and wide. The temperature here spans from cool to hot and is a heaven for residing in.

There are about 126 castes in Nepal each with its own rich history and culture which makes Nepal a rich place for culture. Some dating back to the millenniums. Not only that, our country is very rich in its geographical terrain. From the lowest point of just 70 Meters from sea level to the world’s highest peak Mt. Everest (8848.86 meters) , we have temperature scales that vary from place to place. It is divided into three regions, Terai, Hilly, and Himalayas each according to their altitude and geographical differences.

Himalayan regions have high and mighty Himalayas that are breathtaking to look at. Out of the world’s top 10 highest peaks, 8 of them fall in my country. It is already a great pride to have come from such a country. The diverse flora and fauna, beautiful landscapes, lush and green jungles, historical and religious places in Nepal are enough to gather the attention of foreigners and locals too. People from all over the world pay thousands of dollars just to see our country’s snow-capped mountains, rivers, cliffs, waterfalls, other beautiful landscapes, the rich flora and fauna, and sites of great religious and historical importance. It just doesn’t end there.

Our country ranks in the top 5 for the richest in water resources. With just a small country with an area of 1,47,181 sq kilometers, it has the potential to fuel hydropower worth 2% of the entire world. It may look small in number but taking our country’s small area in context, it is a potential incomparable to all. The Terai region holds fertile land and smooth flowing waters that are excellent for farming and cultivating.

Nepal is also known as an agricultural country where 60% of the people here follow agriculture as their work. Our country also has huge historical importance. Gautama Buddha the founder and preacher of Buddhism which is practiced worldwide was also born in Nepal. Buddhism is known to preach peace and non-violence and to love everyone. King Janak is also an important figure who holds great importance to communities in Nepal.

Other personalities include Bhrikuti, Araniko, etc. Our country is also known for its bravery. Our country never has to celebrate Independence day as we were never under the rule of any other. We stood and fought against the Britans and other Mongol countries. Brave Gorkhalis were united after a long struggle and fought their way to preserve their country. The courage and bravery of Nepali people are also know world wide. Many brave Gorkhalis went to fight under countries in world wars and won various colors and medals. This brought our country so much respect that we even enjoy it for granted to date.

Although our country’s history, culture, terrains, and achievements make anyone feel proud, the power struggle for the politicians, previous kings, and presidents have made the country weak and fall in the developing country category. Our rich natural resources have not been utilized and we have fallen way behind. Corruption is widely prevalent in our country and the loans we have taken from other countries are in a large number. The amount of food and other materialistic consumption has made Nepal import more and export less.

Our country is poor but the people here are rich. This is because of the corruption and the illegal working/trading that has been done. The government has not made significant progress and the people aren’t responsible. Although I feel proud to be A Nepali, the condition of my country makes me feel bad. People should feel responsible and carry out their duties and not just complain about the government.

The government too should implement proper policies and rules and enforce them accordingly. Utilization of our natural resources should be done in an effective way and social evils such as discrimination according to castes and genders, other superstitions should be slowly removed. Centralized development should stop and we should control the people moving out to other countries with their skills that are wasted abroad. This way we can slowly develop our country.

Essay on My Country Nepal

Essay on My Country Nepal | Paragraph Writing 600+ Words

My country is the land of diversity and is very unique. My country Nepal lies in the Southern part of Asia. It is surrounded by two powerful countries India and China and is landlocked. It has an area of about 147,516 sq. kilometers. Although small, my country is diverse both in terms of geography and culture. It is like a beautiful garden with many people from different backgrounds. It is a country with a variety of castes and cultures.

Nepal’s flag is also the most unique to the world. Our country’s flag stands out among the rest due to its shape. The colors and symbols of our flag also represent the country’s peace-loving and friendly nature, bravery, and immortal history.

In my country Nepal, we can find places with altitudes ranging from as low as 70 meters to the highest peak in the world 8848 meters. It is divided into 3 regions Terai, Pahad, and Himal with the temperature of the place varying from hot to cold. Each region has its own specialty. Nepal’s Himalayan regions have high and mighty mountain ranges that are breathtaking to look at. Out of the world’s top 10 highest peaks, 8 of them fall in my country Nepal.

For You: Essay on Importance of English Language

The Hilly region is full of green hills and a very cool temperature to live in. It has many historical and religious places. Terai too is mostly a flat stretch of land with fertile soil. It is the granary of Nepal where most crops are grown. It is also an industrial region of our country.

The flora and fauna of my country are also very diverse. The difference in altitudes makes our country have various ecosystems. Foreigners from all over the world pay thousands of dollars just to see our country’s reach of flora and fauna, rivers, lakes, cliffs, waterfalls, snowcapped mountains, and many other beautiful landscapes. The natural beauty of my country Nepal is difficult to find in other places.

Our country also has sites of great religious and historical importance where thousands of pilgrims visit every year. Places like Pashupatinath, Muktinath, Lumbini, Swyambunath, etc are very popular. It is already a pride to have come from such a country.

Essay on My Country Nepal

Our country also ranks in the top 5 for water resources. For such a small country to have rich water resources it is a boon. If fully utilized we can provide electricity to other countries too. Important personalities like King Janak, Gautam Buddha, Arniko, Bhrikuti were also born in Nepal. They all carry historical and religious importance even up to date. Our country’s warriors and commanders are still known today for their bravery and courage. It is also the reason our country never has to celebrate independence day as we never were colonized.

Nepal is also blessed with people of different backgrounds and ethnicity. In the past, many people had migrated to Nepal and settled here and hence the diversity. My country Nepal is also secular and respects all religions equally despite the numbers. There are 126 castes in Nepal and behind them, every culture has its significance. Each culture has its unique festivals and traditions. People also celebrate each other’s festivals with great fun. Nepali people are known for their hospitality and friendliness too.

But even after nature blessing our country, we have not been able to fully utilize it. Problems such as corruption and political instability run deep in the country. Our natural resources are not being taken care of properly and our country is being poor day by day. People are rich but the country is poor. Poverty is also seen in our country. Lack of proper management of wastes has also polluted our water and slowly destroying our forests. This also means our plants and animals are slowly being extinct. Illegal hunting and farming of precious animals and plants are also ruining our ecosystem.

This is why to save our country from further danger and poverty proper management and a responsible leader are required. The citizens of our country should also feel responsible for the country and not only blame the leaders. Proper plans and policies should be required to protect our resources. Social evils such as discrimination should also be tackled. Conservative-minded people should be given awareness and strict punishments for corruption and other illegal acts should be given. Employment opportunities should also be created as many people are leaving the country for jobs abroad.

The feeling of patriotism flows in the blood of every Nepalese citizen. We love the nation more than our soul. Our country is like heaven for us. Our country’s name is Nepal.

The word Nepal signifies a country of peace and love. Nepal is a country where Lord Gautam Buddha also known as the ‘light of Asia’ was born. Nepal is a country of Bir Gorkhali soldiers. The highest peak in the world i.e. Mt. Everest is located in our country Nepal.

There are various mountains in our country therefore Nepal is also globally known as a mountainous country. Our country Nepal is divided into three geographical regions and five development regions.

The national flower of Nepal is the rhododendron, the national bird is Daphne, the national color is the smirk and the national weapon is khukuri. Our country Nepal is very small on the world map but for us, whether it is small or big it is the world.

Nepalese can see the whole world in their homeland. Many national personalities are born in our country. For instance Prithvi Narayan Shah, Bahadur Shah, Rajendra Laxmi, and so on.

The history of the country Nepal is very powerful. All the pages of the past are crammed with hot as well as pure dark red blood of our national heroes. Our country Nepal is the Yam between two big stones.

This means Nepal lies in the middle of two leading countries i.e. India and China. Country Nepal is divided into many ethnic groups. The country is multi-caste, multi-culture, multi-tradition, and multi-religious.

Nepalese are living in a very peaceful environment. Nepal is loved by many tourists numbers of tourists is increasing day by day. Tourists are attracted by countries by which country can move ahead in their economic status.

Foreign currency which tourists left in the country helps to make the country more developed. We, Nepalese people, do not need big buildings, expensive things, etc. We are happy by the smell of rhododendron.

We are happy with the natural beauties which are located in the country. We all are well known for the saying, “Hario ban Nepal ko Dhan”. It is true as every green forest in Nepal is wealth for our country.

More than 80% of the total population of the whole country depends upon agriculture therefore country can be said as an agricultural country also. Many rivers, green forests, mountains, lakes, etc. make the country at the top.

Our country Nepal is heaven for us. Our country which is full of natural beauty is everything for me that I want. We all Nepalese are ready to sacrifice souls to our country Nepal. We feel very proud to be Nepali. Thus, we say that our country is a pride for us. We feel proud to say that we are Nepali.

Essay on Nepal – My Country My Pride (Essay in 300 words)

Nepal is known for its natural beauty in the world. There is no sea linked with this country but yet people like to see mountains, hills, forests, rivers, lakes and so many other things. Everyone knows Nepal as the country with the highest mountain in the world.

This is the only country where people have found innumerable kinds of birds which live in high mountains as well as in low Terai. Most people enjoyed mountain climbing, trekking, rafting in the rivers and lakes, and having a wonderful view of wild animals.

Mountains speak their beauty, golden view in the morning, the sun playing in those regions. Bright red light can be observed in the west on the horizon at the sunset. Probably the sun looks playing with young people of the land.

Rivers flow from the high mountains twisting and turning around the hills and through the Terai and reaching the other’s land. The murmuring brooks (rivers) refresh the human heart and mind. Sals, pines, and other trees where rhododendrons smile in full bloom. Leaves and branches move in the gentle breeze.

Lophophorus sing beautiful songs in higher flights. Lovely flowers bloom and. smile in rainbow colors. The cuckoo is seen sitting on branches and calling the spring with rapturous songs. Mechi, Koshi, and Karnali run far in distance carrying calls from Nepalese people for foreigners.

Mechi is in the east. Kali in the west making borders of the country. Mountains in the north and Terai in the south join with neighboring countries. Southern plain lands speak their own words. Green crops and harvest produce their delights. During the plow, planting, and harvesting one can enjoy the songs sung by the farmers.

Temples and pagodas ring the bells and gongs (large bells) to invite the foreigners. Wild animals living in the dense forest make a beautiful show for the people. Who will miss the beauties of Nepal? Who’ll not have the desire to see once the real beauty of Nature?

Sustainable agriculture is often thought of in terms of environmental issues, but in this article, I define it more broadly, so as to encompass economic and human factors as well. I argue that the single most important factor in achieving truly sustainable agriculture is the leaving intact of ecosystems. I set the target goal of preserving 70% of all land as wild ecosystems. These intact wild ecosystems could provide immense economic benefits both for agriculture and for society as a whole, both in terms of direct and indirect effects. Mandi Bhav Today

Agriculture is a vital aspect of Nepal's economy and livelihoods, contributing significantly to the country's GDP and providing livelihoods, food security, and rural development. The majority of the population engages in farming activities, making agriculture a primary source of income for rural households. The sector encompasses a diverse range of crops, livestock, and agro-based industries, contributing to both domestic consumption and export earnings. Nepal's agrarian landscape offers employment opportunities for farmers, laborers, and agribusiness entrepreneurs, absorbing a large workforce, particularly in rural areas where alternative job opportunities are limited. Agriculture is the backbone of Nepal's food security, with the cultivation of various crops such as rice, wheat, maize, pulses, and vegetables ensuring a diverse and nutritious diet for the population. Promoting sustainable farming practices and technological advancements can enhance food production capabilities and mitigate risks associated with food shortages and price volatility. Investments in agricultural infrastructure, such as irrigation systems, roads, and storage facilities, improve farming efficiency and contribute to overall rural development. A thriving agricultural sector is essential for uplifting the standard of living in rural areas, as the majority of Nepal's population resides in these communities. Nepal's unique topography and climate make it vulnerable to environmental challenges, but sustainable agricultural practices are crucial for preserving natural resources, preventing soil erosion, and maintaining biodiversity. Encouraging eco-friendly farming techniques and promoting agroforestry can contribute to environmental conservation and resilience against climate change impacts. In conclusion, agriculture is not just a sector of the economy in Nepal; it is a way of life that sustains millions of people. Recognizing its importance and implementing policies that promote sustainable development is essential for the nation's prosperity, well-being, and preservation of its natural heritage. abogados divorcio arlington va

Rural development is directly linked to agriculture, with improved practices, infrastructure, and technology contributing to overall rural upliftment. Agricultural products like tea, rice, spices, and medicinal herbs contribute to Nepal's export earnings, providing an avenue for economic growth. Agriculture is deeply embedded in Nepal's culture and traditions, with many festivals and rituals linked to agricultural practices reflecting the agrarian way of life. Traditional agricultural practices contribute to biodiversity conservation by maintaining a variety of crops and livestock adapted to different regions. Essay on Rivers of Nepal [For school and college students]

Essay on Rivers of Nepal is often asked at various levels of competitive exams in Nepal. The following essay on "Rivers of Nepal" is a sample essay for school and college students. We will be uploading different versions of the essay over time.

[# Sample 1]: Rivers of Nepal (343 words)

Nepal is a beautiful country. The presence of different natural resources has made Nepal even more beautiful. Our country's precious resources include green hills, green forests, the snowy Himalayas, and rivers. Nepal is considered to be the second richest country in terms of water resources after Brazil.

Rivers have special importance to Nepal because the geographical division of our country is based on rivers. The west and east borders of Nepal are the rivers Mahakali and Mechi, respectively. Rivers are taken as the basis of the border line to separate zones and districts of Nepal. Ten zones of our country are named after rivers. Nepal is naturally provided with a network of hundreds of rivers. Among the rivers, the Sapta Koshi is the largest. The other big rivers in our country are the Sapta Gandaki, the Karnali, and the Rapti. Some of the rivers like Bagmati, Narayani, Kali Gandaki, etc. are of religious importance. The deepest river in our country is the Narayani.

On the basis of the distribution of rivers, Nepal is divided into three regions. They are the Koshi region, the Gandaki region, and the Karnali region.

Besides, rivers are of great economic importance to our country. Rivers are the source of hydroelectricity. Since we have many large and fast-flowing rivers, we can produce sufficient electricity. According to the studies conducted on the rivers of Nepal, it is calculated that the rivers of Nepal can produce electricity, which can electrify the whole of Asia. But unfortunately, we are not able to produce enough electricity for our own use. Steps should be taken to produce electricity sufficient for our own country. The river is the source of irrigation. If the water from the river is used for irrigation purposes, we can produce more food and become self-sufficient in food supply.

To conclude, plans and policies need to be formulated to utilize our rivers in scientific ways and develop the country in all aspects. If we do so, our country will definitely come under the list of the developed countries in the world.

Essay on “A Journey through Nepal” Complete Essay for Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation and other classes.

A Journey through Nepal

A watching through the glass pane of the scarlet bus, I felt glad inside in the warm and cosy atmosphere. I was in the early days of my career as a journalist and a trip to Nepal, in my opinion, would have provided me an extravaganza of opportunities to build a platform for launching my career. It was New Years Eve and the festive spirit was in the air. Even Mother Nature was in a mood to celebrate, wrapping up the cone shaped pine and fur trees with a blanket of thick sheet of the seven crystals of snow. The small mountain kingdom of Nepal set aside on the border with India, earns fame from the mighty Mt. Everest. The tallest peak in the world has become as one of the peak tourist destinations in the world. With the advancements in the modes of trekking gear, these 8849 metres of steep treacherous climb is no longer invincible. Even then it sort of attracts mountain climbers to scale its height from all over the world. The snow clad mountain towers majestically into the blue sky above and ends up, tearing the clouds, in the heaven, a sight that drives most critics into oohs! and aahs! of delight.

Nepal, mainly a Buddhist community, boasts about one of the world’s most advanced, oldest and one of its kind. The people of Nepal have a great sense of pride and prestige in their culture, which has been passed from generation to generation in its original vigour and glory. The Nepalese traditions and beliefs have remained unchanged since the Buddha and Mahavira began spreading their faith, belief  and that, by any means is a very long time. unlike us. they have done everything to preserve their culture from the spreading tentacles of western influence. The capital of Nepal, a star studded city of Kathmandu, is a well-knitted cluster of ancient Buddhist monasteries and modern skyscrapers. A city based on foreign trade, a pleasant hill station gifted with scenic beauty, Kathmandu is an ideal place to spend your vacation in. A city full of light-hearted people, Kathmandu is one place recommended not to be missed on. If you have had an opportunity to visit this place and missed out on it, then you could consider yourself trifle unlucky. The Kathmandu market is flooded with luxury goods of quality as high as that of the advanced countries in the west. In the heart the city dwell a number of leading industrialists of Southeast Asia. Their glorious lifestyles have left many astonished; yet their modest attitudes have forged even their enemies into oblivion.

I had already visited Kathmandu and was on my way to Mt. Everest. I had a camera with me but I didn’t know whether we were allowed a photo shoot. Thinking this for a while, I nearly missed out the chauffeur saying that we would have to resume our journey the next morning and hence we would have to spend the night inside the bus. Analyzing the current situation that had arisen I decided to take a stroll outside. I wandered up to a high cliff thinking about my career, my future as a journalist. The cliff was about 20000 feet above the normal ground and the view I got from there of the surroundings was quite magnificent.

Even though it was night, the pale moon and the twinkling stars brightly lit the sky. I was able to get a good look of the snowy slopes covered with the greenery of the cones of pine and spruce that dazzled silver like pale ghosts in the light of the night. I was so impressed by this god’s creation that I took my diary to write something about it but was man going to lag behind. Suddenly the sky was lit with an almighty bang that forced me to take one or two steps behind. Then I saw an amazing display of fireworks that sent me into a tizzy. The sky was brightened with an different assortment of colours, which were reflected from the snowy slopes to give it a 3-dimensional view. Realizing that it was past midnight and hence the beginning of the New Year, I was enthralled by the awesome sight that was created when man and god worked in such a beautiful tandem. Shedding a tear or two of joy, I thought I didn’t need a camera to fix this sight permanently in my memory.

A massive amount of water flowing from one place to another is a river. Rivers are the greatest natural resources in Nepal. There are many rivers in Nepal. Some of the big rivers of Nepal are Mechi, Koshi, Bagmati, Narayani, Kaligandaki, Seti, Mahakali, Rapti, Seti, and Karnali. Actually they originate from high Himalayas. Rivers are very important for us.

Firstly, water from rivers is used for irrigation, secondly, for generation of hydroelectricity and for domestic purpose. Rivers are important also for scenic beauty. Many tourists love watching the flow of water and rivers are also used for rafting and even for transportation.

In spite of such advantages of rivers, people are polluting water resources by throwing wastage garbage, dead bodies, and waste materials. People have managed their drainage in rivers. Pollution of water in rivers has caused a great disadvantage for people themselves.

Our main challenge is that we are not being able to fully harness the water resources available in our country. So, we should take good advantage of resources available in our country. And for that protection of rivers is very much essential.

SEE Model Question

Subject- Compulsory English Time- 2:15 hrs FM-75

Students are requested to write their answers creatively. 1. Read the following poem and answer the questions given. 5

The Road not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,

And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveller, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could

To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim

Because it was grassy and wanted wear,

Though as for that the passing there

Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black.

Oh, I kept the first for another day!

Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and, I

I took the one less travelled by,

And that has made all the difference.

Robert Frost

A. Answer the following questions. 5

1. What kind of dilemma is the traveler feeling in the poem?

2. Which road the poet takes and why?

3. What do you think, "the roads" refer to? 4. Is the poet optimistic in the poem? Give your perspective. 5. Explain the verse, " I doubted if I should ever come back", in your own words.

2. Read the following passage and do the activities. 10

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence is not an act, but a habit. Aristotle

We are all born to lead successful lives, but our conditioning leads us to failure. We are born to win but are conditioned to lose. We often hear comments like “This person is just lucky, he touches dirt and it turns to gold” or “He is unlucky; no matter what he touches, it turns to dirt.” These comments are not true of anyone.

If you were to analyse the lives of lucky and unlucky individuals being commented on, you’d find that the successful person is doing something right in each transaction, and the failure is repeating the same mistake time and again. Practice does not make perfect - only perfect practice makes perfect. Practice makes permanent whatever you do repeatedly. Some people keep practising their mistakes and they become perfect in them. Their mistakes become perfect and automatic.

Cultivating a habit is like plowing a field. It takes time. Habits generate other habits. Inspiration is what gets us started, motivation is what keeps us on track, and habit is what makes it automatic.

The ability to show courage in the face of adversity; show self-restraint in the face of temptation, choose happiness in the face of hurt, show character in the face of despair, and see opportunity in the face of obstacles are all valuable traits to possess. But these traits do not just appear; they are the result of constant and consistent training, both mental and physical. In the face of adversity, our behavior, whether positive or negative can only be what we have practised. When we practise negative traits such as cowardice or dishonesty in small events, and hope to handle the major events in a positive way, it won’t happen because that’s not what we have practised.

If we permit ourselves to tell a lie once, it is a lot easier to do it a second and a third time until it becomes a habit. Success lies in the philosophy of “sustain and abstain.” Sustain what needs to be done and abstain from what is detrimental until this becomes habitual. Human beings are more emotional than rational. Honesty and integrity are the result of both our belief system and practice. Anything we practise long enough becomes ingrained into our system and becomes a habit. A person who is honest most of the time gets caught the first time he tells a lie, whereas a person who is dishonest most of the time gets caught the first time he tells the truth.

Honesty or dishonesty to self and others becomes a habit. The choice is ours as to what we practise. Whatever response we choose, our thinking pattern becomes habitual. We form habits, and habits form character. Before we realise that we have got the habit, the habit has got us.

Someone once said, “Our thoughts lead to actions, actions lead to habits, and habits form character.” Character leads to destiny. Therefore, you should try to form character building habits. (Source: You Can Win by Shiv Khera)

Genocide is a crime on a different scale to all other crimes against humanity and it implies an intention to completely exterminate the chosen group; genocide is therefore the greatest of the crimes against humankind. The massacres that transpired in Rwanda less than four years ago possess every quality attributed to the ramifications of genocide. There, in the clearest case of genocide since Hitler, a cast slaughter occurred which claimed the lives of more than 8000,000 Rwandans. This genocide is probably the greatest and gravest crime against humanity in the second half of the twentieth century; and no group whether foreign or indigenous executed enough force to prevent this from occurring. The United States stood by and watched the horrific events unfold. The Clinton administration, facing what was the clearest case of genocide in 50 years, responded by downplaying the crisis diplomatically and impeding effective intervention by U.N forces to stop the killing. A great crime against humanity did exist through the individual tortures, rapes, and slaughters of the Rwandans; but hidden in all of the turmoil and rage, was the crime of passivity and evasion in the United States' response towards all of the crimes and suffering. One million Rwandan civilians were left to die, but that could have been significantly reduced with the initial intervention and aide of the U.S government.

Rwanda has been subjected to a number of historical events that have led up to their genocide. After WW I, they were put under Belgian Trusteeship that imposed a rigid plan of racial classification, dividing the Rwandans into three distinct groups; the Hutu, Tutsi and Twa. The Hutu composed of about 84 percent of the total population in Rwanda while Tutsi was 15 percent and the Twa represented a meager 1 percent of the population. The Belgians' racist ideals provided a framework for the social classes that would exist in Rwanda. The Tutsi were deemed superior in all aspects to the Hutus and Twa due to their facial features and manner in which they lived and presented themselves. "Their racialization of the political reality was exploited." According to the Belgians, they possessed a politeness and greater intelligence that surpassed the levels that were inherent among the other tribes. The "whiteness", including facial features, behavioral tendencies, and personality, reflected many characteristics of the white race. The Belgians presented them with an opportunity for education and a Christian upbringing. It was this intervention that sowed the seeds for the future resentment among the clans. Disgruntled by their new low-level social status, resentment began to grow amongst the Hutu clan towards the Tutsi.

1. What is genocide? 2. How many people lost their lives in the massacres of Rwanda? 3. How did the rigid plan of racial classification divide the Rwandans? 4. What is the claim of Belgians about Tutsi? 5. How did the Clinton administration respond to the killing?

4. Read the following passage and do the activities. 10

A fuel is a material that is used to produce heat or other form of energy. Energy is vital to almost every human activity, from cooking to building a skyscraper. Nearly all fuels produce heat by being burned. Most of the world's energy comes from the so called "fossil fuel"- coal, oil and natural gas. These are the remains of plants and animals that lived millions of years ago. Fossil Fuels won't last forever. It is estimated that the world's supply of oil will only last for between another 30 and 60 years and coal for 250 years Fossil fuels will eventually run out. There is a critical need to develop something to replace them.

At present about 14% of the world's energy is believed to come from burning wood. Wood is the main source for fuel for about 2 billion people. Most of them are in developing and underdeveloped countries. In some areas whole forests have been cut down for fuel. Unlike coal, oil or natural gas, new wood can be grown quite quickly. Unfortunately, not enough trees are being planted. Trees are being but cut down faster than new one can grow, causing a severe deficiency of wood.

At present only 4% of the world's energy comes from sources other than wood and fossil fuels. Nuclear energy is the most essential of these and so it is the most conspicuous power source to expand. However, nuclear power stations are extremely pricey If an accident occurs at one, there can be great dangers as was shown by the fire that occurred a t the Chernobyl reactor in the Ukraine in 1986. Getting rid of nuclear waste materials is also very costly and it can escort to serious pollution.

There are numbers of new fuels which could be developed. Many countries simply burn their household rubbish. In Britain, for example, 70 million tones of household rubbish are thrown away every year. This rubbish contains the same amount of energy as 20 million tones of coal. A number of cities including London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Paris, now have power stations that burn household rubbish to produce electricity.

10 Moments of Beauty at the Paris Olympics

Some people watch the Olympics for the events. Others watch for the hot athletes.

This is nothing new. Going all the way back to the first century, the orator Dio Chrysostom praised the “beauty” of the boxer Melankomas, who competed in the ancient Greek athletic games .

That same feeling resonates in 2024. A number of participants in the Paris Summer Olympics have distinguished themselves for things beyond their athletic talent. In an extreme case, a pole-vaulter gained a great deal of attention — some might say notoriety — for failing in a unique way. Others caught the public’s attention through moments of love or kindness — a different but equally palpable form of beauty.

There are numerous options to choose from, but here are 10 moments of beauty at the games.

Swimmers and Their Abs

A man in a black warm-up suit that says “Italia” holds both arms in the air as others stand around him.

After Italy won bronze in the 4 × 100-meter freestyle relay on July 27, the Italian swimmer Thomas Ceccon, 23, raised his arms in celebration. In doing so, he unintentionally bared his well-cut abs , which had many thirsting on the internet .

(Ceccon, who won gold in the 100-meter backstroke, was later found sleeping on the ground next to a bench in Olympic Village after he had complained about the conditions at the village.)
